After My Girlfriend Dumped Me, I Got Reincarnated As A High School Student. That Part’s Fine—But Why Are All My Ex-Girlfriends Here Too? - Chapter 13 – Shima Kanazawa
I first met Shima through an SNS app called MailBird—a platform where you could send random short messages to anyone, and if they replied, you could start chatting and even become friends.
Shima was… well, a bit forceful. After exchanging messages for a few days, she suddenly said she wanted to talk on the phone.
The day we first called each other—that was the turning point.
“Hey, you sound kinda stuffy. You, okay?”
“Mm… maybe I caught a cold. I’ve got a bit of a fever.”
“Wait, that’s bad! You should sleep early then—”
“No.”
“Huh?”
“I finally get to talk to you. I don’t wanna stop now.”
“Well, we can just talk another day—”
“No! It has to be now! Don’t leave me alone…”
She must’ve been feeling lonely because of the fever. Her voice sounded so weak that I couldn’t help softening up.
“Alright, fine. But don’t push yourself, okay?”
“Thank you! You’re so sweet.”
Her tone instantly brightened. We ended up talking about random things for quite a while after that.
“Still, you should really go to bed soon, don’t you think?”
“No! I wanna talk more…”
“I’ll call again tomorrow, okay? If we keep this up, you’ll make yourself worse.”
“But… I’ll be lonely.”
“That’s why we’ll talk tomorrow—”
“Hey.”
“Hm?”
“Then, Yuta… go out with me.”
“…What?”
I froze at her sudden confession.
“I like you, Yuta. So please… be my boyfriend.”
“Wait, hold on. You can’t just say that out of nowhere…”
“You don’t like me?”
“It’s not that, it’s just… I barely know you yet.”
“Then you can get to know me from now on.”
“I mean… that’s not the point—”
“I’m not going to sleep unless you say yes.”
“…Fine.”
“Hehe. Then it’s official—nice to meet you, Yuta.”
And that’s how I ended up giving in to Shima’s pushiness and agreeing to date her. Not that I was totally against it, honestly. It was the first time a girl had ever shown such open affection for me, and the thought of actually having a girlfriend—it made me kind of giddy.
Of course, I had no idea back then that this was the start of what would later feel like hell.
Once we started dating, my daily life completely changed.
Because it was long-distance, we talked on the phone every single day. Messages, calls—it was non-stop. From “good morning” to “good night,” my entire day revolved around her.
Except for meals, baths, and sleep, she kept the call going even while I commuted or was on my lunch break at work.
After a few weeks of that, of course the conversations started running dry. I wanted to do other things—but if I so much as checked my phone during our call, she’d complain that I wasn’t paying attention.
But if I did focus on her, I couldn’t do anything else. It was a never-ending cycle.
If I didn’t call one night, she’d demand to know why. And when I said I didn’t have anything to talk about, she’d say, “So if there’s nothing to talk about, you won’t call me? Then maybe this relationship won’t work after all.”
It always ended in arguments, followed by her blocking me on SNS until nightfall.
Looking back, I honestly don’t know how I put up with it for so long. But after a while, I realized it had become a matter of pride. I’d already endured so much—I didn’t want all that effort to go to waste.
And somewhere deep down, I kept hoping that love—real love—might eventually fix everything.
But the end came without warning.
A month later, I was planning to visit her in person. I set a date, booked the night bus, prepared everything. Then, the day before the trip… she blocked me on every single SNS again.
I thought she was just mad about something, so I gave her space. But a week passed.
Still nothing. I had to cancel my bus ticket—and pay the fee. Still no word from her.
That’s when a mutual friend, Kumajiro, messaged me.
“Hey… you know your girlfriend’s already got a new boyfriend, right?”
And just like that, my life of suffocating obsession came to a sudden, bitter end.
“Whoa…”
Rio winced after hearing my story.
“And yeah, I didn’t believe it at first either. So I checked her blog—and sure enough, it was full of pictures of her with that new guy. Dozens of them. That… yeah, that messed me up.”
“Whoa… (again).”
“So yeah. We never actually met in person, though I’d seen some of her photos. But, well, pictures don’t always show the real person. And that was a long time ago. I look a lot younger now, so she probably wouldn’t recognize me anyway.”
“I see.”
“You don’t have much muscle, but you’re surprisingly lean,” she said as she casually touched my arm.
“Hey! Get away from my brother!”
Hinami pulled me away from her with clear disgust.
“Don’t touch Yuu-nii so casually!”
Maria pushed Shima aside.
“Ow! What the—stop getting in my way!”
Shima stumbled, glaring as she stood back up.
“In our way? You’re the one who betrayed my brother!”
“I couldn’t help it! We were far apart—I couldn’t see him every day! But now, I can finally feel him this close again!”
“Then why… why did you date me in the first place…?”
My voice trembled.
“Because… I really did love you.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
She was insane.
“Well, yeah. I get it if you don’t wanna talk to me. I’m just a horrible, awful girl, right?”
“If you know that, then—!”
Hinami tried to interrupt, but Rio stopped her with a hand.
“Wha—why are you stopping me?”
“This is something Yuta has to deal with himself.”
“…!”
“Yeah… I never wanted to see your face again—not even like this.”
“Oh? Funny words from the guy who sent a blog follow request.”
“That’s because you blocked me out of nowhere!”
That really had been traumatic. More than anger, I’d felt genuine fear.
“Hey, let’s date again. In this world, we can finally be together forever.”
Blushing faintly, Shima reached for my hand.
But as I looked at her glowing expression, the thought that struck me was the exact opposite of what she expected.
If my guess was right, it all made sense—her obsession, Rio’s story about how we got reincarnated.
“Hey… was it you? Were you the one who killed me?”
“…What are you talking about?”
Her face twisted in confusion.
“You killed my brother?” Hinami gasped.
“What the hell are you saying, Yuta?” Maria added.
The others who didn’t know the truth looked puzzled, but I didn’t stop.
“To be together in this world—you killed me in the real one, didn’t you!?”
“I don’t understand what you’re saying.”
No way… I was wrong?
I was sure it had to be her. She was the most suspicious one. But the look on her face—it didn’t seem like she was lying.
Then who—?
“But you know,” she said, her smile curling slightly.
“It’s true that I’m the one who pushed you.”
“…What!?”
