After Rebirth, My Archrival Omega Looks at Me Differently (GL) - Chapter 19
The night breeze stirred the lush greenery in the courtyard, creating a soft rustling sound beneath the quiet, starry sky.
The long hair falling beside the girl’s face fluttered slightly. The wind slipped through the open window, lifting the stillness in the room and bringing it to life.
Yan Youqing tucked her drifting hair behind her ear and gently tapped the glowing green button on the screen.
A second later, Chi Yan appeared.
She was still wearing her school uniform, but her long hair, usually tied up high, now hung loose. It was thick and dark, falling like a waterfall over her shoulders.
Since her secondary gender had differentiated into Alpha, her facial features seemed to have matured overnight, gaining a sharp and striking presence.
Yan Youqing looked at her through the screen, her cool eyes reflecting the soft glow of light. “Why are you early?”
“Well… I finished my homework, so I figured I’d call early,” Chi Yan replied, not sounding entirely natural. As she spoke, she raised a hand and touched her nose. “Did you finish yours?”
“Yes,” Yan Youqing nodded. “Just now.”
Chi Yan gave a quiet response. “Then you’re pretty fast too.”
There was a rare moment of ease on her face, and it was unusual for her to offer Yan Youqing such a fair comment.
Maybe thanks to the tightened inspections from the disciplinary committee today, no one dared to wander between classes. The other Omegas, even with all their curiosity toward the newly S-ranked Alpha, only dared to glance at Chi Yan from behind the glass windows of the advanced class corridor.
But once school was over, all that suppressed excitement began to stir again.
Chi Yan had no idea how people had gotten her QQ number, but friend requests kept coming one after another. Some strangers had even messaged her privately, and while the messages weren’t offensive, they were clearly testing boundaries.
Chi Yan had never experienced anything like this in her previous life. Back then, she had only ever been a Beta.
She knew that these people weren’t really interested in who she was. What they wanted was the status of an S-class Alpha.
To be honest, Chi Yan didn’t like that kind of attention.
People like that were not even as genuine as the timid little bunny girl who had disappeared this morning the moment the committee showed up.
Chi Yan frowned slightly as she sat at her desk, scrolling through a friend list that was not exactly full. She skipped over Zhong Yi’s bunny profile picture and Wang Chuning’s idol avatar, and for some reason, her eyes landed on a painting of Van Gogh’s wild roses.
She didn’t even know why she had decided to video call Yan Youqing. Maybe she had accidentally tapped the button, or maybe she just wanted to brag that she had finished her homework early.
But now that she had already called, what could be more calming than studying?
With that thought, Chi Yan placed the English textbook from Unit One on her desk. “Alright, where should we start today?”
Yan Youqing took her time pulling out a notebook. The camera shifted as she moved. “I have an idea. We can follow the first round of review. There aren’t many key points in the first three weeks. If you’re willing to study a bit more on the weekend, we can catch up to the teacher’s progress pretty quickly.”
Chi Yan looked a little surprised.
Yan Youqing’s tone was calm and organized, as if she had already planned everything out in advance.
But she hadn’t seen her take out this notebook at school today.
“Is that okay?” Yan Youqing asked, looking at Chi Yan, who seemed briefly distracted on the other side of the screen.
“Sure,” Chi Yan nodded as she returned to focus. “Let’s do this weekend. Once we catch up, we can use weekends for other stuff.”
She figured there was no point wondering when exactly Yan Youqing had prepared this plan. This wasn’t an investigation. She was trying to improve herself. The more detailed and effective the plan was, the faster she would surpass her.
Warm light from the room fell gently across her face, and a small curve lifted at the corner of her lips.
Pages turned on screen as Yan Youqing’s voice came through slowly. “Alright. Let’s begin with the first key point.”
Her calm voice passed through the screen, reaching Chi Yan’s ears through her earphones.
It seemed that Yan Youqing didn’t have a phone stand. The video was not very stable. The shadow of the phone was held in one hand, while the other hand held a pen and appeared in the lower part of the screen.
Her hand was slender. The slight rise of the bones pushed gently against pale skin, balanced and delicate, especially beautiful.
There was a kind of clean, youthful quality about her. Her neatly trimmed nails rested smoothly against the pen, and the part of her fingertip pressed to the paper was slightly tinged with pink.
Even though Yan Youqing’s face did not appear clearly on the screen, just the sight of her hand was enough to make someone believe that behind the camera was a beautiful Omega.
Naturally, Chi Yan knew that Yan Youqing was an Omega.
But she was different from the others who had suddenly become warm and eager around her.
Even though Yan Youqing was distant, cool, and sometimes seemed unapproachable, Chi Yan knew she was not the kind of person who would change her attitude toward someone just because of their secondary gender.
No one felt more right than Yan Youqing.
As Yan Youqing’s calm voice came through the earphones, Chi Yan suddenly had that thought, out of nowhere and without any warning.
The night grew darker with time.
The moon hung behind the thinning branches, casting a clear and quiet glow into the room.
“We got through that pretty quickly,” Chi Yan said, glancing at the notes she had taken. A quiet sense of accomplishment settled in her chest.
She leaned closer to the screen to check the time and took a sip of water before commenting with surprise, “It’s not even nine yet. The night market should still be open, right?”
Her face suddenly appeared close on screen, shrinking the distance between them. Her lips, still slightly wet from drinking water, shimmered softly under the light.
Yan Youqing blinked without any visible reaction and asked, “The night market? Are you planning to go?”
Chi Yan had not really been planning to, but once Yan Youqing asked, she suddenly became interested. “Sure, why not. I haven’t been in a while.”
Then she glanced at the expensive-looking desk behind the camera and added with a teasing smile, “But someone like you, living up here, probably never goes to places like that, do you?”
Fifteen minutes later, the night sky, no longer quiet, was stirred by the sound of a gate opening.
Chi Yan stood with her hands in her pockets, watching as the girl walked toward her from the upscale residential area nearby.
She lifted her chin slightly and said, “Let’s go.”
