After Rebirth, My Archrival Omega Looks at Me Differently (GL) - Chapter 23.2
A visibly pregnant woman stepped down from the car with the support of a bodyguard.
She looked like she was already in the late stages of pregnancy. Her loose, flowing dress covered her belly but revealed a pair of long, slender legs. If someone only saw her from the waist down, they would never guess she was expecting a child.
Her outfit was simple, but it did not feel casual. This well-cared-for lady had barely taken a few steps when the bodyguard brought a wheelchair from the trunk and helped her sit down.
This was the first time Chi Yan had been this close to someone so powerful and well-protected. She was used to being around people like Zhong Yi, so she could not help but whisper with amazement, “That baby sure got lucky. Not even born yet, and already getting the royal treatment. The three of them look like a pretty happy family.”
Yan Youqing replied with a soft and calm “Mm,” which could be taken as agreement.
Her eyes were cool and quiet, showing no emotion. After glancing at the family for just a second, she looked away and said to Chi Yan, “Let’s go.”
“Okay,” Chi Yan nodded. No matter how impressive those people were, it had nothing to do with them.
The evening breeze drifted through the small plaza beside the hospital parking lot, carrying a rare sense of comfort among the greenery.
Suddenly, Chi Yan seemed to remember something. She turned to Yan Youqing and asked, “By the way, what does your family do?”
“My family…”
A gust of wind rose and quickly died down. The shrubs around them became still once more.
Yan Youqing paused for a rare moment. It was clear that the question had touched something in her.
The light was dim. A flickering streetlamp buzzed faintly with static electricity.
Chi Yan was not sure why, but she noticed a faint shadow in Yan Youqing’s expression. There was a trace of gloom between her brows. Chi Yan did not know what to say, so she simply stood by quietly, waiting for her to speak.
Before Yan Youqing could answer, a woman’s voice came from behind.
“Yanyan? What are you doing here?”
The voice sounded surprised, but also gentle. Chi Yan stopped walking without thinking and turned around.
The family of three she had just commented on had changed direction. A large group of people was now walking straight toward them with a sense of overwhelming presence. The woman in the wheelchair was looking directly at them.
Chi Yan froze.
She was sure she had spoken quietly. There was no way they could have overheard her. Frowning slightly, she tried to remember if she had ever met someone like that elegant and noble-looking woman.
Before she could figure it out, Yan Youqing spoke first.
“Mom.”
