After Rebirth, the Cold and Aloof Film Queen Always Wants to Cuddle with Me - Chapter 28
Chapter 28
Ye Ruihuan’s expression was soft, but “soft” didn’t quite capture it—it was tender, with eyes full of spring-like gentleness and a face glowing with joyful smiles. Her usual pride was completely gone, replaced by a faint chilliness that wasn’t the kind of cold that kept people at a distance; rather, it felt peaceful and inviting, making one want to get closer without realizing it.
Lin Ruijiao was stunned. In her impression, Ye Ruihuan had never looked like this before. What had gone wrong? Her hands clenched tightly, the veins on the backs of her fair hands standing out clearly.
“There is,” Ye Ruihuan smiled gently and raised her hand to touch Lin Ruijiao’s face, softly stroking it. “A flower.” Even her voice had become clear and melodious.
The softness was so pleasant that Lin Ruijiao didn’t immediately understand what she meant. She looked puzzled and only after a while did it dawn on her. She then composed herself silently, but the tips of her ears hidden beneath her long hair flushed slightly red.
“Jiao Jiao, the ‘Guiting’ place is under renovation. I’ll be staying at Yuwan for a while,” Ye Ruihuan said lightly, as if it were just casual conversation.
Lin Ruijiao lowered her eyes and began to think. The two words “Guiting” pulled memories from her past life—it was Ye Ruihuan’s home. Lin Ruijiao had once wanted to move there to live with her but was not allowed.
“Is it okay? I want to move in and live with you for a while,” Ye Ruihuan’s eyes sparkled like stars, incredibly beautiful.
“Why do you have to live here?” Lin Ruijiao couldn’t suppress her curiosity and asked with an innocent look.
In her past life, she had wanted so badly to live together with Ye Ruihuan but never managed it. Now, when she didn’t even care, it was suddenly within reach. Lin Ruijiao’s heart was stirred by waves of emotion—she didn’t understand why Ye Ruihuan was doing this.
“My sleep quality hasn’t been good lately. Sleeping with you helps,” Ye Ruihuan said, which was at least partly true.
“…” Lin Ruijiao turned away, her eyes fixed on the TV but clearly distracted. So that was it—now she was supposed to be Ye Ruihuan’s sleeping aid.
“Sleep together?” Lin Ruijiao finally caught the point and frowned.
“Um… no, I just mean I’ll live here,” Ye Ruihuan hesitated. She did want to.
Ye Ruihuan smiled suddenly: “Don’t worry, your life won’t be affected.” She promised earnestly.
Lin Ruijiao thought quietly for a moment, then smiled slowly: “This is your property anyway. You can live wherever you want. No need to tell me.”
“…Okay, but shouldn’t I at least ask your opinion first?” Ye Ruihuan moved closer to her.
“Yeah, well, I was just thinking of moving out. It’s a bit remote here…” Lin Ruijiao said casually.
“No! I feel safer living with you,” Ye Ruihuan said, sounding a bit like a spoiled child. “I won’t live here for free, though. When I get a good script, I’ll invite you along.” She quickly added this.
“Alright, sign the contract,” Lin Ruijiao reluctantly agreed. It seemed escaping Ye Ruihuan was unlikely for now. Whether they lived together or not didn’t matter—since that was the case, she might as well accept it if it was to her advantage.
Lin Ruijiao’s eyes reflected deep thought. Once this period passed and she saved enough from filming, she would break the contract with Ye Ruihuan. Even though the contract with the company favored her with many benefits, to someone wanting to escape Ye Ruihuan, it was like a shackle, tightly binding her to the other.
Ye Ruihuan’s eyes curved with a smile like a warm spring breeze—warm in a way that seemed unlike her.
Well, after so many days, Lin Ruijiao had already come to terms with it. Holding and hugging Ye Ruihuan was nothing—just like acting, common in dramas. After all, she wasn’t losing anything.
After getting her consent, Ye Ruihuan leaned against the sofa and watched TV with her, their linked arms not letting go.
Lin Ruijiao lowered her gaze thoughtfully, then got up to pour a glass of water. She freed her arm from Ye Ruihuan’s hold and handed her the cup.
A faint smile appeared on Lin Ruijiao’s face, lips curving as she looked at Ye Ruihuan with bright, crescent-shaped eyes.
Ye Ruihuan didn’t hesitate to take it—the smile was dazzling, even if it was just a pretense.
Afterward, Aunt Liu quickly cleaned up a room for Ye Ruihuan, and Assistant Li brought over her daily necessities.
As Ye Ruihuan planned, she would be staying at the Yuwan Villa for many days.
From now on, the two lived under the same roof, seeing each other all the time.
With Lin Ruijiao’s rising popularity, Sister Wang helped her take on many gigs and appearances. She selected some good media interviews and popular variety shows but refused any small, crude productions that didn’t suit her aspirations.
Instead, she mostly interacted online with the casts of “Yue Ban” and “Phoenix,” promoting herself in the name of her characters. The interactions between roles were lively and bustling.
One night, after finishing an interview, Lin Ruijiao came back. The weather had grown cold. Wrapped in a coat, she stepped in from the wild wind to the warm, bright interior and took a deep breath. Looking up, her gaze landed on Ye Ruihuan sitting on the sofa. In her hand was a wine glass, cheeks flushed, and her dreamy eyes seemed to shimmer with a layer of moisture.
“You’re back?” Ye Ruihuan’s clear voice had a slight huskiness.
Lin Ruijiao hadn’t yet gotten used to living with Ye Ruihuan. She was taken aback, feeling the scene was familiar yet the person was Ye Ruihuan—could she be waiting for her? That thought immediately popped into her head.
“Yeah, Ruihuan.” She took off her coat, placed it aside, and sat on the sofa with a faint smile. But fatigue was clear on her pure face.
“Have a drink,” Ye Ruihuan handed her another glass of wine from the coffee table.
The rich red liquid stimulated her taste buds. She licked her lips hesitantly. After a moment’s hesitation, Lin Ruijiao accepted the glass.
Just a little should be fine.
But under Ye Ruihuan’s persistent urging, she couldn’t help taking sip after sip until her head felt dizzy. Even Ye Ruihuan’s figure in front of her seemed to blur. She fought the intoxication, pinched herself, and set the glass down on the table.
“Ruihuan, I’m going back to my room…” She hadn’t finished speaking when she stood up but couldn’t steady herself and sat back down on the sofa.
“You’re drunk,” Ye Ruihuan quickly helped her, her face shining with a bright smile. She already knew her partner liked to drink a little.
