After Rebirth, the Cold and Aloof Film Queen Always Wants to Cuddle with Me - Chapter 36
Chapter 36
The moment the other party saw her, she immediately came over and affectionately took hold of her arm. Another woman stepped forward and closed the door.
“Ruijiao, you’re here.” She hurriedly invited her to sit down.
In an instant, Lin Ruijiao and Jingjing became the center of attention, firmly locked in by everyone present.
Lin Ruijiao gave Jingjing a look. Jingjing quietly stood by the door without moving, ready to respond according to the situation.
With everyone’s attention fully on Lin Ruijiao, Jingjing secretly sent a message to Assistant Li.
Even before they arrived, Assistant Li already knew they would be coming here. There was no doubt it was Ye Ruihuan secretly investigating Lin Ruijiao’s schedule.
The relationship between the two was complicated. Madam Ye didn’t seem to completely ignore Sister Lin, and even seemed somewhat concerned. Plus, Assistant Li often discussed their situation, so the information had been leaked out.
Now that the situation was bad, Assistant Li asked for help, even though she wasn’t sure if they would actually come. Still, saying something might help — Madam Ye wouldn’t just watch Sister Lin die.
Someone at the table noticed Jingjing was left alone and invited her to sit down as well. Jingjing exchanged a glance with Lin Ruijiao, who waved her off.
In this situation, the two of them couldn’t stand against such a large group, but fortunately, everyone at the table only fawned over the so-called producer and were busy forcing each other to drink. Lin Ruijiao had to pretend to cooperate—refusing might mean being targeted badly.
But being stuck with them like this made it impossible to break free.
Just as Lin Ruijiao was thinking of a way to escape, there was a loud “BANG” at the door — someone was pounding fiercely, again and again. Before Lin Ruijiao and Jingjing could get up to open the door and make their escape, the door fell inward.
Suddenly, colorful lights and shadows spilled in, dust swirling in the air forming various shapes. Hidden in the smoke was Ye Ruihuan, wearing a black wool coat.
Cold and composed, her lips pressed tightly together, eyes sharp as ice knives, she strode in from the noisy room.
The entire table instantly quieted, all eyes fixed on her.
Ye Ruihuan strode forward, grabbed Lin Ruijiao by the collar, scanning her from head to toe. The icy edge in her eyes softened slightly, but her domineering aura remained, pressing down like a ruler.
Lin Ruijiao exchanged a puzzled glance with her, feeling inexplicably guilty and embarrassed. To be caught like this was mortifying.
“Madam Ye, you came—why didn’t you say a word?” someone at the table stood with a smile to greet her.
Anyone in the industry knew Ye Ruihuan.
“Heh…” Ye Ruihuan suddenly let go of Lin Ruijiao. Her gaze swept over Lin Ruijiao’s fair and delicate wrist, where a ring of red marks was visible. Her expression darkened.
She quickly stepped forward, grabbed a bottle of liquor, and smashed it onto the table. Wine spilled everywhere, glass shards scattered, and the people present dodged and screamed, “How dare you touch my people?!”
Lin Ruijiao stood far behind, safely guarded by Ye Ruihuan’s presence.
“Oh, Madam Ye, it’s a misunderstanding,” one thin man tried to smooth things over with a smile.
“Misunderstanding?” The cold tone made everyone present shudder.
What went wrong? Weren’t these two enemies? Why did Ye Ruihuan come rushing here? At least they didn’t come to the next party…
Ye Ruihuan scanned the faces and memorized them. Assistant Li nodded to her from the side.
“Let’s go.” Ye Ruihuan took Lin Ruijiao—like a frightened quail—in her arms and left confidently.
Being held in this warm embrace, Lin Ruijiao’s emotions were complicated. She hadn’t expected Ye Ruihuan to come to her rescue at a time like this. She lifted her head to look at her.
Just as they reached the parking lot, Ye Ruihuan sternly scolded, “What are you looking at? Didn’t I tell you not to go to every dinner invitation?” Her tone was strict but mixed with concern. Her overall aura had visibly softened.
Assistant Li and Jingjing exchanged a glance and quietly stepped aside to avoid disturbing their reconciliation.
When Ye Ruihuan spoke, her usual high-and-mighty, aloof demeanor disappeared, replaced by a side of her that Lin Ruijiao found both unfamiliar and familiar — like an older sister. The sight was strange and awkward.
Lin Ruijiao couldn’t help but look a little longer. “Okay.” She smiled and nodded, her bright eyes sparkling in the dark night.
“What are you smiling at?” Ye Ruihuan turned her head aside.
“Thank you.” Lin Ruijiao softened her voice.
Those simple words sounded sweet and gentle, striking straight to Ye Ruihuan’s heart, stirring waves of emotion.
Ye Ruihuan turned her gaze back, their eyes meeting. The tenderness in her eyes almost overflowed. In the deserted parking lot, the cold wind howled, yet somehow brought a trace of warmth.
Lin Ruijiao suddenly felt that besides emotional difficulties, Ye Ruihuan also had some redeeming qualities. If it weren’t for the “stand-in” issue, they could even be friends.
This rescue did not erase the awkward past. On the way back, the two sat side by side in the car, silent.
The atmosphere returned to what it was before, taking away all the warmth between them. Lin Ruijiao restrained her smile, closing her eyes to rest against the window.
Ye Ruihuan seemed unable to pay attention to Lin Ruijiao beside her, even wanting to distance herself.
She felt hurt, a prickling sensation spreading over her body. She rolled up her sleeve and saw a tiny shard of glass embedded in her arm. Pain radiated from other places too.
Sniffing carefully, she could even detect a faint metallic smell of bl00d. But Lin Ruijiao beside her was unharmed. She looked at her peacefully sleeping companion, her eyes softening with relief.
Since she had free time, she had come here to take a walk. Otherwise, the consequences could have been much worse. That little bunny was still so foolish.
Ye Ruihuan pondered carefully how to break the ice with her. Now, none of it mattered anymore — her fragile pride, the rules of love. She only knew she liked Lin Ruijiao. Looking at the peaceful little bunny beside her, she unconsciously smiled.
After many days, for the first time, Ye Ruihuan’s face showed emotions beyond hesitation, worry, doubt, and sadness.
At this moment, her coldness and pride were completely gone, replaced by gentleness. She looked like a refined young lady from a noble family — elegant and serene. Though this clashed with her usual temperament, it was exactly how she appeared now, as if she had completely transformed.
Even Assistant Li, who had been with her for a long time, felt indescribable emotions. Since meeting Miss Lin, Madam Ye had been changing. She liked Miss Lin, she thought.
In another car, Jingjing looked puzzled and asked, “Li Jie, how did you and Madam Ye get here so quickly?”
“We’ve been wandering around nearby all day, and I’ve been freezing out here for so long…” Assistant Li complained.
“Ah? No way.” Jingjing’s calm eyes were filled with shock.
Then they exchanged a glance and nodded.
