After Rebirth, the Cold and Aloof Film Queen Always Wants to Cuddle with Me - Chapter 38
Chapter 38
In the silence, Ye Ruihuan sighed. The house was infinitely quiet in the dark night, with only the fierce wind roaring outside.
The two of them hardly spoke at home, but overall, things were much calmer than before. The tense, nerve-wracking atmosphere from earlier seemed to have vanished, something that Assistant Li and Jingjing both noticed deeply.
Since there wasn’t much work anyway, Lin Ruijiao had also started to slack off, staying at home eating well, exercising, and practicing her acting. But mostly, she stayed in her room and rarely interacted with Ye Ruihuan. For her, everything was still pretty normal.
Ye Ruihuan, however, was very troubled. How was it possible they didn’t even have a chance to spend time together? Their current way of getting along was more like unrelated roommates.
Lin Ruijiao went downstairs once, carrying something unknown.
“Ruijiao, do you want some drink?” Ye Ruihuan’s eyes lit up as she raised her wine glass, unwilling to give up.
“…No, thanks,” Lin Ruijiao said, then turned and left.
“Then shall we watch a movie together?” Ye Ruihuan kept trying for a reason.
“…No need, I still have some things to do…” Lin Ruijiao declined without thinking. She had already given up trying to figure out Ye Ruihuan’s thoughts; after all, she couldn’t guess, so she might as well just let it be—after all, it wasn’t affecting her anyway…
The weather was getting colder and colder. Outside, the sky started to scatter tiny snowflakes that swirled and vanished in the air. Ye Ruihuan had no interest at all in many events in the industry, and there were few decent business engagements left. The higher she climbed, the fewer activities she could choose from, meaning she had to be more selective. Not to mention she still had Hua Rui Entertainment to manage; if anything went wrong, Ye Zhi would surely come after her.
Ye Ruihuan stared out at the snowflakes and, for some reason, thought of that dream. Ye Zhi had been running Hua Rui Entertainment for many years; after all, she must have some attachment… She looked down at the fleeting melted snow on the ground. She would never allow the little bunny to die.
The dream had been so eerily close to reality that Ye Ruihuan believed it was a warning—perhaps even a prophetic dream…
But their relationship with the little bunny had made no progress. The other appeared in front of her, making her heart itch with desire, yet she couldn’t chat or talk love with them. Such a good opportunity was simply too wasted. Ye Ruihuan’s heart suddenly fluttered in panic, and her pale fingers gripping the wine glass trembled violently.
Lin Ruijiao had just started making a splash in the circle, and naturally, with the New Year approaching, there were no events seeking her out.
Looking at her empty schedule and the series of negative comments under her Weibo posts, Lin Ruijiao felt a headache coming on. It seemed she wouldn’t be getting many invitations. Perhaps she hadn’t acted much this year, so her audience affinity was low… She sighed softly and then dialed her phone.
“Mom, it’s me,” Lin Ruijiao said with a happy smile, her previously furrowed brows relaxing.
“Ah, Jiao Jiao, are you not busy anymore?” The familiar and affectionate voice came from the other side.
“Not busy now, I’ll come back tomorrow,” she replied joyfully.
“Good, good. Hurry back then. I watched that show you acted in—you did really well, Jiao Jiao…”
“Alright, alright, we’ll talk about that when I get back,” Lin Ruijiao’s eyes involuntarily filled with mist.
“Okay, okay, be careful on your way and stay safe.”
After the call ended, Lin Ruijiao called Jingjing over to help arrange the trip and started packing her things.
Jingjing was somewhat puzzled. Every time Lin Jie traveled, she emphasized that someone must come early to check the car’s condition, and the driver must be a highly professional mechanic who would inspect the car thoroughly before departure.
But Jingjing didn’t think much of it. Now that Lin Jie was being so viciously criticized online, paying more attention to safety was only right.
Their movements were quite loud. At dinner, Ye Ruihuan curiously asked, “Jiao Jiao, are you doing a big cleanup?”
“…No, we’re just packing,” Lin Ruijiao said without lifting her head, focused on eating.
“Ah?” Ye Ruihuan instantly became nervous and stared straight at her. “What are you doing? Moving?” She didn’t dare say the extra words out loud.
“…No,” Lin Ruijiao didn’t want to reveal her plans and didn’t notice the meaning behind Ye Ruihuan’s words.
Ye Ruihuan pressed her lips together and distractedly picked at her food. She didn’t dare ask further, but if it really was moving, what could she do to keep her here? Undoubtedly, she had no way; she couldn’t hold her back.
In moments, Ye Ruihuan’s mind became a chaotic mess, and she felt as if she had plunged into an abyss—a darkness that trapped her tightly.
“Since the New Year is near, is Miss Lin going home?” Assistant Li quickly intervened with a tactful question. Seeing Ye Jie’s increasingly heavy expression, she thought it best to speak up gently.
“…Mm, going home for New Year,” Lin Ruijiao finally looked up, noticing everyone was watching her. “Why, aren’t you all going home?” She stared innocently with her big round eyes.
“Going home,” Ye Ruihuan immediately relaxed and smiled faintly.
Jingjing calmly watched the group, with only Lin Ruijiao seeming a bit puzzled.
Ye Ruihuan breathed a sigh of relief, feeling somewhat happier than before. So she wasn’t moving away; at least her heart could settle back down.
But then it hit her a moment too late—if Lin Ruijiao was going home, she wouldn’t see her for a long time. Suddenly, the strands of hair falling down looked a bit droopy.
Jingjing and Assistant Li exchanged a knowing glance and nodded slightly, sharing some meaning unknown to others.
That dinner ended amid Ye Ruihuan’s anxiety and disappointment.
Later that night, Jingjing helped Lin Ruijiao pack. When Jingjing returned to her own room, she saw a message from Assistant Li.
“Looks like Ye Jie definitely likes Miss Lin.”
“Yeah, but Lin Jie seems completely oblivious to it…”
“Ahhh!!! What to do? If you guys leave, what will I do?!”
“…Just chill.”
Meanwhile, Ye Ruihuan tossed and turned, unable to sleep. She sighed repeatedly, unsure what to do. Although she hadn’t done much with the little bunny lately, if she really couldn’t see her for a while, it would be hard to bear and hard to accept. She reached under her pillow and grabbed the jade safety amulet tightly.
Looking into the blurry air, she had already started to miss her.
Since realizing she liked Lin Ruijiao, somehow the other seemed like a completely different person in her eyes—exuding a charming aura in every gesture and movement. Every action, every word, every smile… she loved them all, even obsessed with them. Like a bright, tempting red apple, making her want to ignore everything else and just take a bite.
