After Rebirth, the Cold and Aloof Film Queen Always Wants to Cuddle with Me - Chapter 39
Chapter 39: (End of VIP Section)
Ye Ruihuan couldn’t help but recall the dream—the smooth, delicate skin revealed by the other, the pure and adorable expression. She licked her lips unconsciously, her mind replaying the soft, sweet tone with which she spoke. Whenever she saw her, pink bubbles seemed to burst in her heart, yet she could only restrain herself, watching the other carefully and cautiously, unable to make any move.
Ye Ruihuan tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Two hours passed, and she still hadn’t fallen asleep. Finally, she gave up and got up, staring into the boundless darkness outside the window. She even felt an impulse to climb out the window and go to the other’s room.
“Sigh…” she let out a deep breath.
Early in the morning, Ye Ruihuan got up and rushed to the living room. Sure enough, Lin Ruijiao was nowhere to be seen; the house was empty.
After Lin Ruijiao arrived home, Jingjing left since Lin Jie was on vacation, so was she.
“Jiao Jiao’s back!” Lin’s mom immediately came forward to help with the luggage.
“Back!” Lin’s dad hurried out from the kitchen, still wearing his apron.
“Your dad just simmered some pork rib soup, I’ll serve you a bowl later.” Lin’s mom pulled her to sit down and busied herself around.
“Didn’t you say you had an assistant? Where is she?”
“She’s home. You can’t expect people to work during the New Year.” Lin Ruijiao smiled faintly as she looked at the heat pack handed to her.
“No, but if she made the trip, at least let her come up for a meal.”
“She said no, maybe next time.” Lin Ruijiao followed behind her mom, swaying left and right.
Meanwhile, at the Yuwan villa, Ye Ruihuan was staring blankly at the large screen in front of her.
“Ye Ruihuan, dinner’s ready!” Ye Zhi called out from afar.
“Annoying,” Ye Ruihuan shot her a glance.
“Hmph… I’m just saying, living at Guiting was so good, now you move here and I’m not used to it.” Ye Zhi complained.
“…I didn’t invite you over…” Ye Ruihuan replied.
“Heh, you don’t ask me for work stuff?!” Ye Zhi snapped back immediately. “I heard Lin Ruijiao left, I was worried you’d be lonely and bored here…”
“…Fine.” Ye Ruihuan quickly put a piece of pork knuckle on her plate to shut her up.
“Did you know Mom and Dad went abroad on a trip?” Ye Zhi asked, grinning with some pride in her eyes.
“Yes,” Ye Ruihuan said thoughtfully. “They probably won’t come back for New Year.”
“Probably not. The old man is definitely going to throw a tantrum this year.”
“I’m not going back either.” After a moment, she thought of something.
“You’re not going? The old man’s place? Are you crazy? Then what about me?” Ye Zhi bombarded her with questions, looking like a spiky hedgehog.
“It’s okay, anyway, it’s my parents taking the blame.”
“…Whatever. The old man will definitely call you back.” Changing the topic, Ye Zhi asked curiously, “Did you break up and go out to clear your head? Where did you go?”
“…What’s Ye Junhua been up to lately?”
“Why are you asking about him? What’s going on?” Ye Zhi’s hand holding her wine glass trembled involuntarily.
“Nothing. Didn’t you see him at the gala the other day? You two seem pretty close.”
“…Okay,” Ye Zhi’s voice gradually softened. “Why all the sudden concern about me?”
Ye Ruihuan’s eyes lit up playfully as she looked at her.
“Why are you looking at me like that?! We’re tight, you know, best bros…” Ye Zhi lowered her eyes to avoid Ye Ruihuan’s gaze, hurriedly shoveling in two more bites of food.
“Don’t know…” Ye Ruihuan shook her head.
The topic was smoothly changed by Ye Ruihuan, and Ye Zhi finally stopped her rambling.
Lin Ruijiao was happily watching TV with her parents when suddenly there was a knock on the door.
Holding an apple she was eating, Lin Ruijiao went to open it, only to see someone she never dreamed would show up—Ye Ruihuan.
Blinking with confusion, she looked at her. “Why are you here?”
Ye Ruihuan smiled at her, ignoring the question, and stepped inside.
“Jiao Jiao, who is this?” Lin’s mom came over to see the visitor. “Come in, come sit down.” She practically ushered her in. “I know you, you look familiar… that actress in the movie, what’s her name…”
“Ye Ruihuan.” Ye Ruihuan hurriedly answered, holding a big pile of stuff.
“Oh, right, right, that’s the name. Jiao Jiao, you have a friend here, why didn’t you tell us?” Lin’s mom glanced reproachfully at her.
“Mom, I…” Lin Ruijiao held up her apple, looking back and forth between Ye Ruihuan and her mom, unsure how to react.
“Auntie, hello, I’m Jiao Jiao’s friend.” Ye Ruihuan smiled warmly, her voice sweeter than anything.
“Good, good, come on in and sit.”
“…” Lin Ruijiao had nothing to say.
“Hello, uncle.”
“Hello, hello. Jiao Jiao thanks you for taking care of her… I think I recognize you.” Lin’s dad looked closely, increasingly familiar.
“Ye Ruihuan, the girl from the movie we watched before!” Lin’s mom quickly introduced.
“Yes! So young and such a good actress!” Lin’s dad praised.
“Exactly, Jiao Jiao should learn more from you. So beautiful, the more I look, the more beautiful you get, just like walking out from the TV…” Lin’s mom immediately took her hand, looking extremely fond of her.
“Thank you, auntie, thank you, uncle.” Ye Ruihuan’s smile was as gentle as a spring breeze, so soft and approachable it seemed unlike her usual self.
“You’re welcome. Now that you’re here, have fun with Jiao Jiao, just don’t be too much trouble.”
“Not at all, it’s really nice. Thanks for taking care of me.” Ye Ruihuan smoothly delivered a long spiel that made Lin’s mom very happy.
Even Lin Ruijiao, who knew Ye Ruihuan well, had never seen this side of her and sat there stunned, watching their interaction.
“All right, you two play, your uncle and I are going out to buy something.”
“Okay, auntie, have a good trip.” Ye Ruihuan smiled brightly.
With a “clang” of the door closing, Lin Ruijiao’s smile completely vanished. “What are you doing in my house?” Her tone was full of displeasure.
“New Year’s, Jiao Jiao. I did send you a message.” Ye Ruihuan’s expression didn’t change; her brows and eyes still held softness, even deep affection.
Lin Ruijiao dared not look up, hurriedly lowering her eyes to check her phone. The message was really there.
“I didn’t reply… You wouldn’t go home for New Year?” Lin Ruijiao just wanted to coax her to leave.
“…Jiao Jiao, you don’t know, I have no family at home.” Ye Ruihuan’s smile faded, her head drooping, looking very lost and dejected.
Suddenly, Lin Ruijiao realized that whether in a past life or now, she didn’t seem to really know the other’s family—except for Ye Zhi.
The world of wealthy families was complicated and deep; children must have a hard time too. Lin Ruijiao immediately imagined all the clichéd, melodramatic rich family plots.
“Well…” Not sure if it was softness or worry about her parents’ wild guesses, she helplessly looked at Ye Ruihuan. “You better be sensible and don’t say anything strange in front of my parents!” She lifted her big round eyes to warn her, looking serious and stern.
“Okay… I know.” Ye Ruihuan’s expression softened a lot but deliberately added a subtle hint of sadness, pretending it for the other.
