After Retirement, Living a Stud Life in Another World - 100
Chapter 100: Beginning of Development
“Wind!”
The line of Empire’s wind magic users, all aligned, simultaneously completed their incantations. Dozens of tall trees standing at the edge of the forest began to lean and eventually fell with a rumble, raising dust and debris.
Called the “Wind Blade” spell, it’s always impressive no matter how many times you see it… Unlike the “Water Cutter” taught by Sister Liese, I have no clue how such large trees can be cut through by it. Well, perhaps my struggle to understand such reasoning stems from my head being filled with Showa-era science. The people around me, both from the Empire and the Principality, simply accept magic as it is.
“Alright, men, quickly gather the wood!”
At the command of Max, the leader of the mixed forces, the sturdy soldiers who were ready rushed forward, efficiently tying ropes around the fallen logs and dragging them away in haste. Well, men’s roles are pretty much limited to this kind of physical work anyway.
“Hey, you there! Don’t dawdle!”
The prince’s reprimand wasn’t meant to bully his subordinates. If they work slowly, monsters will undoubtedly attack from the forest. While women can use magic to repel monsters to some extent, men are out of luck once targeted. After securing the logs, the only option is to retreat quickly.
“Help me!”
See, I told you so. A strange monster with a pig’s head but a somewhat human-like body, despite its dull-witted appearance, is attacking the last group that got tangled up in the ropes… Wasn’t it called an orc? About five of them are attacking the group.
While those monsters may be slow, they’re incredibly strong. Their clubs can easily crush low-quality swords made in the kingdom. There’s no point in confronting them; it’s best if they can escape smoothly… Just as I thought that, one of the young soldiers stumbled, tripping over a fallen tree. This is bad.
“Leave it to me!”
With a lively, high-pitched voice, a ball of light taking the form of a girl dashed straight towards the fallen young man.
She likely helped with peeling the bark from the logs; in her hand was a hatchet… When she swung it, the orc’s right arm, about to swing its club down on the hapless man, flew into the air. With a follow-up swing, she horizontally sliced off the other orc’s head, and just like a popular toy in the Showa era called “Blackball Crisis,” the orc’s head bounced up like a spring.
“No, using unfamiliar weapons isn’t a good idea!”
The remaining orc grinned with a vulgar expression at Gretel, who had thrown away her hatchet. Perhaps the monsters see her discarding her weapon as giving up the fight. Since they use human women as tools for bearing children once captured, they probably already have such scenes in their heads.
However, the pig-headed monsters have no way of understanding her true worth. Gretel can wield swords, spears, and even bows proficiently, but her specialty lies in using her body itself, enveloped in a aura of light, as a weapon, engaging in hand-to-hand combat.
“Haah!”
With a sharp shout, Gretel, moving at an unimaginable speed, stepped forward and delivered a punch enveloped in platinum light to the orc’s abdomen, literally piercing a hole in its torso. It brings to mind scenes from the “Northern Fist” manga we used to read together as boys… Maybe I should teach her lines like “You’re already dead.”
As I imagined such silly thoughts, the battle between Gretel and the monsters was completely one-sided. The next orc received an incredibly beautiful high kick to its head, shattering its skull, and the final orc’s club, about to swing down, shattered into pieces as soon as her slender, long legs spun, and the monster itself sank to the ground with a kick.
“Hehe, it’s been a while since I’ve had a good fight. I can’t help but go easy on humans after all… Right, Lutz? How was my fighting?”
While casually fixing her slightly disheveled strawberry blonde hair, Gretel turned around with a vibrant look. She seems to be at her best when fighting, not as a noble lady.
“Yeah, your fighting style is the most beautiful, as always. I couldn’t take my eyes off you.”
The moment she heard that, Gretel took a deep breath. Her cheeks flushed, her expression filled with joy. She’s overreacting quite a bit… I just gave my honest opinion. And while still surrounded by the aura of light, she suddenly flew towards me and hugged me tightly.
“I love you so much, Lutz!”
Those arms grabbed me like a vice, squeezing me tightly and not letting go… I thought my ribs were going to break. But somehow, I managed to hold on today and didn’t pass out like before. Is this something to be happy about?
