After Retirement, Living a Stud Life in Another World - 203
Chapter 203: Teleportation Magic
Why is it that Beatrice’s important Chief Secretary, Adele, is coming all the way to the farthest corner of the empire, to Baden?
“Well, I do want Adele to see my territory, Baden, but… I want her to prioritize assisting Beatrice.”
“Yes, I intend to do so. The purpose of this trip is not for my benefit, but to make Beatrice-sama happy.”
I don’t understand what’s going on. Even when I tilt my head in confusion, Beatrice, as usual, doesn’t explain. But Adele is sharp and quickly senses my question, providing a clear answer.
“We are experimenting to see if we can use teleportation magic to connect Baden and the capital, so Beatrice-sama can spend time with you despite her busy schedule.”
“Teleportation magic??”
That sounds like something straight out of a fantasy. There are some wind magic users who can connect distant spaces, and there are a few teleportation mages in Baden. However, they can only teleport short distances—maybe a few dozen meters at most—and it takes time to activate. So it’s not very practical. It’s mostly used for sneaking into places, like passing through walls. But now, they want to use this impractical magic to move between the border and the capital?
“It’s a grand idea, but considering the amount of magic power needed, wouldn’t it be difficult unless you’re an extremely high-level mage?”
“But there is one here, the strongest wind mage in the country, right in front of you.”
Beatrice, who had been silent until now, suddenly chimes in.
That’s right. Originally an A-class mage, Adele has grown to the level of an S-class mage after carrying my child. She is definitely the best wind mage in the country. She is certainly the best choice for this task.
“With all due respect, I will accompany you, Luutz-sama, and investigate how far I can teleport using instantaneous movement magic.”
Adele straightens her back and makes her declaration. She looks undeniably cool, but I still have concerns.
“Adele, it’s only been about ten days since you gave birth. Are you sure your body’s okay?”
I ask, unconsciously using the sensibilities I had from my previous world. Adele smiles, her face as sharp and beautiful as ever.
“Thank you for your concern. However, there’s no need to worry. The royal palace’s healers have worked together to fully restore me.”
“And what about Erika, your baby?”
“Yes, luckily, Erika, along with Franziska-sama and Luize-sama, is being cared for by five wet nurses in shifts. It’s better than if I were to take care of her myself, so there’s no need for you to worry, Luutz-sama.”
I sigh. It seems in this world, competent women don’t take much maternity leave and work right away. It’s tough. But looking at Adele’s face, I feel like she’s silently asking, “Why are you worried about something like this?” I decide to keep quiet.
“However, for this ‘experiment,’ I will need your full cooperation… please.”
Wait, what? Am I going to be forced to help?
The next morning, we leave the capital and take a break for lunch at a village.
Michaela is already fixated on a pasta shop run by villagers, expecting to find travelers. I can’t help but give her some pocket money for herself and the guards. She smiles widely in thanks before running off. She really is like a pet dog—feeding her is fun.
“Well, Luutz-sama, you’ll have to participate in the ‘experiment,'” Adele says, her strong voice cutting through my attempt to leisurely enjoy my lunch. Oh right, she said I’d be forced to help.
“Wait, what do I need to do?”
“Just stay with me, come here.”
She draws a circle on the ground, and when I step into it, I’m pulled toward her with surprising force, more than I expected from a girl.
“Hey, what’s going on?”
“Please stay still for just a moment, it will be over soon.”
Adele mutters something in a language I don’t understand, and suddenly, my surroundings start to warp. In an instant, I’m standing in front of Beatrice, who is busy with paperwork.
“Ah, I’m glad it’s going well,” Beatrice says, glancing up from her work.
“Beatrice! This is… the royal palace’s office?”
“Yes. From now on, you will need to teleport here from our travel destination twice a day using Adele’s magic. It’s your responsibility.”
“Why do I have to be involved?”
“It’s obvious. If the magic runs out of power, you won’t be able to come back.”
I see. So I’m here as a mobile battery.
“Well, at this distance, there’s no need for you to recharge my magic power yet. Now then…”
Before I can say anything, I’m pulled tightly against Adele again. I hear some mumbling from her, and in a flash, the scenery changes. We’re back in the village we had lunch in. Michaela is scarfing down pasta at the table and, seeing us suddenly appear, chokes on her noodles in surprise.
“Wow… this is amazing.”
I can only be impressed. If someone like my mother or Gretel, who are attack-type mages, could suddenly be sent behind enemy lines using this technique, we could have won the last war without a problem. Of course, no one with magic power to teleport this far has existed before.
“Well, it’s still limited. I can only teleport to places I’ve been before, and the distance depends on my magic power. It’s a magic with many restrictions. Until recently, I wasn’t able to travel this far, but now, with the power you gave me, I’m eager to see how far I can go.”
Adele grins slyly, her smile just a little too pleased. Looks like she’s a magic nerd too, huh?
