After Retirement, Living a Stud Life in Another World - Chapter 251: Non-Attributed
Chapter 251: Non-Attributed?
“Liese, my sister…” I called.
“Oh, yes. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of this child!” Liese reassured.
Her voice was bright, but her eyes were slightly red. Even my mentally strong sister seemed shocked by today’s result.
We returned to the Freudenstadt family’s home and quickly secluded ourselves in the bedroom. The dinner, which was supposed to be a celebratory occasion, was as quiet as a funeral… and it ended in no time.
I was supposed to stay at Beato’s palace, but my main wife, who witnessed the unexpected baptism result, said without changing her expression:
“You should spend tonight with Liese,” Beato advised.
So, I sat in Liese’s bedroom, quietly sipping a teacup. Of course, it was non-caffeinated herbal tea. In this world, it seemed common knowledge that caffeine and alcohol were not good during breastfeeding. By the way, Albertina was soundly sleeping in a custom-made baby bed, crafted by the capital’s finest artisan at Mother’s enthusiastic request.
“Well, I guess I’m a bit down about it. My magic power surged so much that I assumed the child in my womb was a water-attributed daughter with strong magic. I never imagined something like non-attributed magic existed,” Liese admitted.
“Me too…” I agreed.
That’s right. Since most children so far followed the pattern of “having the same attribute as their mother with a class-up in magic power,” I took it for granted… but was this God’s prank?
“Recently, ‘Lutz’s Law’ has started to break down, hasn’t it?” Liese remarked.
Liese seemed to think the same thing, and indeed, lately, children who deviated from the law were being born one after another.
It started with Clara’s child, Luize. For some reason, she inherited my appearance instead of her mother’s and was somehow certified as the continent’s only dual-attributed child… plus, she had a skill that defied physical laws: metal transmutation. Now, under Clara’s command, she was apparently crafting scary magical tools. What were they making a zero-year-old do, honestly?
Next was Beato’s child, Fanny. This child resembled neither me nor Beato, born with a fantasy-like appearance. She had plenty of magic power but couldn’t release it outward due to her constitution… supposedly because a powerful “spirit” possessed her. To deal with that spirit, Beato was steadily planning to visit the forest people’s village deep in the magical forest. The magical forest was currently in a dangerous state with monsters abnormally multiplying… I wished she wouldn’t go, but her resolve seemed firm.
The clincher was Gretel’s children. Twins, a boy and a girl, were almost unheard of on this continent. The daughter, Vilhelmina, was a light-attributed SSS-class, truly a born hero. She broke the law of having one class above her mother’s magic power, being two classes above. And the son, Halt… Reinhardt, was born with my secret cheat ability, “magic mobile battery.” While Vee… Vilhelmina was one thing, I had nothing but anxiety about Halt’s future.
After such children were born, now this child… Albertina. Whether being a “non-attributed” magic holder was a plus or minus for Albertina’s life was still unknown. What was certain was that no one on this continent could teach “non-attributed” magic. If we raised her without direction, this child might become a magic-less woman… a potentially fatal evaluation for a high-ranking noble.
“Indeed, unexpected children have been born lately,” I acknowledged.
“Ayaka’s children followed the law, though…” Liese noted.
Come to think of it, she was right. Not just Ayaka’s, but Adele’s, Nicole’s, and Cornelia’s children were born without deviating from “Lutz’s Law,” with appearances and magic attributes identical to their mothers and a class-up in magic power.
“What’s the difference?” I wondered.
“…Maybe it’s because of royal bl00d,” Liese suggested.
“What do you mean?” I asked.
“Houses with the rank of earl or higher usually have royal offspring married into them, mixing their bl00d. Our… Freudenstadt family is like that too. When that bl00d clashes with yours, Lutz, maybe it causes some unexpected change,” Liese explained.
I see, that’s one way to look at it. In times like this, Liese’s medieval thinking might fit. But something didn’t quite add up.
“Huh? Then what about Adele…?” I questioned.
That’s right, Adele came from a marquis family. Of course, her mother likely had royal bl00d mixed in too…
“Well, yeah… maybe it’s better not to touch on that. There were various rumors in high society about the former chancellor’s origins…” Liese concluded.
Liese wrapped it up on her own. Well, I wasn’t interested in noble scandals. The issue was Albertina’s future.
“Sister, how should we raise Tina… Albertina?” I asked.
“Well, I still can’t imagine how to raise her. Maybe let her be exposed to all kinds of magic power… and assign a teacher with the attribute she takes an interest in. If it’s water, of course, I’ll teach her…” Liese mused.
Liese, who seemed uncertain, extended her slender finger toward Tina and chanted briefly. A small water orb floated at her fingertip… swaying gently, it gradually grew larger.
“Upa!” Tina exclaimed.
Tina, suddenly waking up and letting out a meaningless sound, reached for the water orb. The next moment, the melon-sized water orb vanished from sight.
“Huh?” “W-what was that…?” we gasped.
We stood frozen in shock for a while.
