Chapter 1: The Transmigration Happened So Suddenly
◎ Why is she calling me so intimately? ◎
“Suisui, I have to tell you, my goddess is really too pitiful. And you’re not even taking good care of her…”
A girl with a high ponytail clutched Yan Sui’s arm, crying her heart out.
With difficulty, Yan Sui used her other hand to pull out a pack of tissues. “Stop crying. She just has the same name as me. Besides, it’s just a novel—it’s not real.”
Yan Sui’s university roommate, Lili, had recently become obsessed with an old-school Mary Sue entertainment novel—
“The Gentle Movie King and His Runaway Sweetheart.”
Just from the title, you could guess what kind of story it was.
But instead of caring about the two leads, Lili was completely fixated on the tragic supporting female character, Jian Liyun.
From beginning to end, Jian Liyun pined hopelessly for the male lead. Despite being a top-tier actress, she eventually ended up dying by suicide from depression.
And her unreliable agent—unfortunately—was also named Yan Sui.
So lately, Yan Sui had been subjected to endless rants from Lili, and even ended up reading the novel herself last night.
The girl was about to cry some more, but when she noticed the black Bentley parked by the roadside, she suddenly fell silent.
Yan Sui also saw the car and smiled gently at the girl. “After the holiday, let’s have a dorm reunion dinner.”
The girl nodded, “Okay! One of them is going to a movie premiere, the other to a concert, and I’m traveling with my family. Once the break is over, we’ll definitely meet up!”
Just then, a man in uniform stepped out of the car. Yan Sui said, “See you after the holiday.”
The man respectfully opened the door. “Miss Yan, please.”
Yan Sui got into the car and relaxed slightly against the seat, closing her eyes for a nap.
The sun hadn’t fully set yet. Crimson rays filtered through the windows, highlighting the flawless lines of her side profile.
Unfortunately, despite her perfect features, there was a lack of vitality in her beauty.
“Miss Yan,” the driver suddenly said.
Yan Sui opened her eyes. “What is it, Uncle Wang?”
The driver rubbed the steering wheel, somewhat hesitant. “Second Miss Yan just got home.”
Yan Sui said nothing. Of course, she knew her younger sister was returning today—but so what?
Seeing her remain silent, the driver continued, “She lost the competition.”
Still, Yan Sui didn’t reply. Her hands, resting quietly on her legs, suddenly clenched into fists.
Seeing she wouldn’t speak, the driver kept talking. “While waiting for you, Housekeeper Li called. She said Mr. Yan came home early and got really angry with the Second Miss.”
Finally, Yan Sui responded, “I understand.”
Even without expressing anything clearly, the driver let out a sigh of relief. As long as Yan Sui stepped in, nothing in the Yan family couldn’t be resolved.
No longer in the mood to rest, Yan Sui thought of her crying roommate and took out her phone. She opened her chat with Lili and started typing:
“I finished that novel last night. If I were the Yan Sui in the book, I would’ve stopped her right when the supporting character first started to stray…”
Before she could finish, the phone slipped from her hand due to inertia.
“What the…”
Before she could finish her sentence, the car swerved sharply, throwing her off balance.
Her seatbelt dug painfully into her chest as everything played out like a slow-motion scene from a movie.
She struggled to turn her head and saw a massive out-of-control truck barreling straight toward her vehicle.
Bang!
The world went dark.
She didn’t know how long it had been before her eyes suddenly opened.
Am I… dead?
She looked around. It was a pure white room, no doors or windows.
“Hello, Host.”
A cold mechanical voice rang out, followed by a white-gold glowing orb appearing in front of her.
Yan Sui closed her eyes, then opened them again three seconds later, expressionless. “Don’t tell me you’re a system and I’m about to transmigrate.”
She wasn’t too familiar with transmigration stories, but thanks to her roommate Lili, she had a basic understanding.
The mechanical voice now sounded delighted. “Host, you’re so clever. Once you complete the mission, you can return to your world and survive the accident.”
Yan Sui said coolly, “I refuse.”
The system seemed to glitch. It even made crackling static noises. “Host, maybe I didn’t explain properly…”
“I understand what you mean,” Yan Sui interrupted, “But I still choose to refuse. If I’m dead, so be it. It’s fate.”
The system had no face, but Yan Sui felt it hesitating.
The glowing orb dimmed slightly, then brightened again. “Host, besides resurrection, there are other rewards you’ll love.”
Still unmoved, she replied, “I don’t desire people, money, or power.”
More importantly, she didn’t mind dying.
It was fate.
The mechanical voice now had a strangely smug tone. “If you complete the mission, I can tell you what that sentence meant.”
Yan Sui’s lips tightened. She took a deep breath. “I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”
Though emotionless, the system gave a strange little chuckle. The orb morphed into a white bird, and its voice became sweet and chirpy.
“Host, you clearly know what I mean.”
Yan Sui fell silent. The little bird chirped on.
“It’s true! Just accept the mission and I’ll let you hear that sentence.”
“Host, I—”
“Okay.”
The system had more to say, but was cut off by her sudden agreement.
“Tell me the mission.”
The system stammered a bit, “Uh—It’s a ‘Save the Supporting Character’ mission. The novel you just read is one of many small worlds. I’m a ‘Save the Female Supporting Character System.’ You’ll work with me to rescue her. Also, to make things immersive, you’ll appear in the novel world with your original body.”
“Oh,” Yan Sui caught on quickly, “So I’ll become the agent named Yan Sui in the novel and save the female supporting character?”
Prepared for a longer explanation, the system short-circuited again. “…Yes. Host, you’re very smart.”
Ignoring the praise, she said, “Tell me the timeline, the time limit, completion conditions, punishment for failure, and my golden finger?”
Thanks to all the system-transmigration tropes Lili had explained, Yan Sui had remembered everything clearly.
Her voice was calm, but the system felt an overwhelming pressure.
It dared not hesitate. “You’ll enter the story right when the supporting character’s mental and physical health starts to decline. You have three years. If she avoids her original ending—suicide—the mission is complete. If you fail, you can’t return to your world.”
She didn’t even blink. “Golden finger?”
The bird rubbed its head against her palm but stayed silent.
The soft, fluffy sensation made her lips curl. “So, there isn’t one.”
The little bird drooped. “Sorry, Host. I used up all my points trying to protect the last host. This time, I can only rely on you. I can give you the original plot points, but once you change the story, those become useless too.”
Her voice remained warm like spring. “It’s okay. I can handle it alone.”
After all, she was used to fighting alone.
She gently stroked the bird’s head. “I’m ready.”
A flash of white light. When Yan Sui came to, she was standing in front of a door, holding some documents.
Looking at the papers and key in her hands, she quickly pieced things together and unlocked the door.
Click. The door opened.
A woman stood inside with her back to her, dressed in a long black gown. Her hair fell like a waterfall to her waist, her figure tall and elegant. Just her back view was enough to know she was stunning.
Yan Sui walked forward, and the woman didn’t turn around.
She poured out a white pill from a bottle and swallowed it with ice water.
Yan Sui reached out instinctively to stop her—but the woman’s movements were far too practiced.
“You didn’t say you were coming today.”
“I’m sorry for the intrusion. Liyun, are you not sleeping well lately?”
Li Yun.
Though her voice was soft and neutral, the name made Jian Liyun’s heart tremble.
She finally turned and looked at this new agent she was meeting for the first time.
Everything about her screamed “by the book”—neatly tied low ponytail, work suit, even the gold-rimmed glasses lacked aesthetic appeal.
But why did such a rigid person say her name so intimately?
Suppressing the strange feeling in her heart, Jian Liyun asked instead, “Why are you here now? Is something wrong?”
Yan Sui gripped the folder tighter.
In the original plot, the agent Yan Sui suddenly visited Jian Liyun late at night to inform her of a reality show she’d be joining.
The male and female leads also joined the show, and that was where the entire internet began to turn on Jian Liyun.
So Yan Sui shook her head. “I was going to say something, but seeing your current state… never mind.”
Jian Liyun stared into her eyes. “No matter my condition, it won’t affect my work.”
Yan Sui sighed. “You’re taking sleeping pills. How can I not worry?”
As someone who had acted countless times, Jian Liyun didn’t know what kind of expression she should make right now.
Yan Sui, oblivious to her inner turmoil, thought for a moment. “Take the next half month off. Want to go anywhere?”
Jian Liyun was silent for a while.
This new agent wasn’t what she expected at all.
Yan Sui misread her expression again and clapped her forehead. “Is the pill kicking in? Go rest first.”
For some reason, Jian Liyun didn’t lie. “I’m not sleepy yet.”
Yan Sui set the folder aside, gently grabbing her wrist. “Go change into your pajamas. I’ll give you a head massage before bed.”
Even through the fabric, Jian Liyun could feel her warmth.
She wanted to refuse, but the words died on her lips. Her voice was almost inaudible.
“…Okay.”
