Chapter 8: The Supporting Female Lead and the Female Lead Officially Meet
â—ŽThe supporting female lead: I’m not angry at all (smiles)â—Ž
In this situation, it was no longer appropriate to pretend nothing had happened.
So Yan Sui stopped and pointed her index finger at herself. “Are you calling me?”
Lu Shutian’s smile brought out two small dimples. “Of course, Yan Sui-jie.”
Yan Sui smiled politely. “Do we know each other?”
Everyone in the industry knew who the breakout star Lu Shutian was, but Yan Sui instinctively felt that it was best to have as little contact with the female lead as possible right now.
It was a shame the female lead herself didn’t seem to want to let her go.
Lu Shutian was like a magician, pulling out of her expensive designer bag—
A block of tofu in a plastic bag.
Lu Shutian shook the plastic bag, making a rustling sound. “Jie, are you looking for this?”
Yan Sui was speechless. Lu Shutian “thoughtfully” explained, “Yan Sui-jie, my name is Lu Shutian. I’m a singer who just debuted this year. I’m going to be filming a new MV here tomorrow, and I just happened to hear from a friend that you and Jian Liyun are also here for a few days. Sister Zhang, who was supposed to deliver the tofu, had a last-minute thing to do today, and since I had nothing to do, I offered to bring it over for her.”
This explanation was clearly not logical.
Yan Sui didn’t know why Lu Shutian was so knowledgeable about her work connections…
No, maybe not hers, but Jian Liyun’s.
But Yan Sui didn’t understand. Right now, Jian Liyun hadn’t openly started doting on the male lead yet, and the female lead didn’t even know the male lead. The two were an actress and a singer, so there were no conflicts of interest between them.
Yan Sui couldn’t think too much about it now. She pretended to suddenly understand. “Oh, Sister Zhang didn’t tell me she had something to do today. Well, thank you very much.”
Yan Sui took the tofu. Lu Shutian still had a sweet smile on her face and showed no intention of leaving.
“You…”
“Do you mind if there’s an extra bowl and chopsticks for lunch, jie?”
The two voices spoke at the same time. Before Yan Sui could find an excuse to leave, Lu Shutian took the initiative.
Good news: So far, Jian Liyun has had no contact with the male lead.
Bad news: The female lead has come to them on her own.
Yan Sui smiled politely and distantly. “Miss Lu, I don’t have a dedicated chef here. Liyun and I are not very good at cooking, so I’m afraid it might not be to your liking. But I know a few local restaurants nearby that have pretty good food. If you need it, I can give you some recommendations.”
Lu Shutian seemed to not have heard the refusal in Yan Sui’s words. She pouted slightly and grabbed Yan Sui’s arm, shaking it a little.
“I’m not picky at all. Just having food is great. Yan Sui-jie, just have mercy on me and let me stay for one meal.”
Lu Shutian looked pitiful, so Yan Sui couldn’t bring herself to say anything harsh.
Forget it, I’ll just consider it an early in-person meeting with the female lead.
Besides, with her accompanying me, Jian Liyun probably won’t do anything wrong.
Yan Sui couldn’t say no to her and could only nod. “Alright, then. The food we eat is simple. Don’t mind it, Miss Lu.”
Lu Shutian shook her head quickly. “I won’t mind, I won’t mind.” She then took the tofu from Yan Sui’s hands. “I’ll carry this.”
Looking at her, Yan Sui couldn’t help but sigh in her heart. The personalities of the female lead and the supporting female lead were truly completely different.
The two walked on the country road. Yan Sui felt she should say something, or it would be awkward.
“You have very long legs.”
Yan Sui started the conversation.
Lu Shutian was stunned. Many people said her voice and appearance were equally sweet, but very few people would say she had long legs.
Seeing that Lu Shutian wasn’t speaking, Yan Sui racked her brain to make up for it. “Um, I mean, you’re very tall.”
Yan Sui’s words were not false. The real Lu Shutian was about the same height as Jian Liyun, both half a head taller than Yan Sui.
So Lu Shutian nodded proudly. “I drank milk every day when I was little, so of course I grew tall and have long legs.”
Yan Sui stopped walking. She first looked at Lu Shutian’s face, then scanned her whole body, and came to a conclusion.
“Like an arctic hare.”
“An arctic hare?” Lu Shutian was confused.
Yan Sui hummed in agreement and gestured with her hand.
“It’s the kind that when it’s squatting, it looks like a particularly small and cute rabbit, but when it stands up, its legs are really long. The contrast is very strong.”
Lu Shutian let out a giggle. “It’s the first time someone has ever described me like that.”
Yan Sui continued walking forward. “You don’t like it? I’m sorry.”
Lu Shutian shook her head. “No, I don’t dislike it.”
She didn’t continue the topic. Yan Sui walked in front, and Lu Shutian followed behind her.
In a place Yan Sui couldn’t see, the sweet smile on Lu Shutian’s face had long since disappeared.
Her almond-shaped eyes, which seemed to hold no threat, were fixed on Yan Sui’s back, and she looked lost in thought.
The two walked back to the house. Yan Sui pushed open the wooden door and called out loudly, “Liyun, I’m back.”
Jian Liyun was in the middle of washing vegetables, still holding a cabbage leaf in her hand, when she walked out of the room. “Sui Sui, you’re…”
Her lips, which had been slightly turned up, became a straight line when she saw the person behind Yan Sui.
On the other hand, Lu Shutian was very enthusiastic. She happily shook the plastic bag with the tofu in her hand. “Hello, Jian Liyun. My name is Lu Shutian. I’m here to deliver tofu for someone, and I was thinking of freeloading a meal here. You don’t mind, do you?”
Even though Jian Liyun’s expression hadn’t changed, Yan Sui just felt that she was about to say something shocking.
So she quickly turned around, took the tofu, and blocked the two from each other’s sight with her body.
“Miss Lu, why don’t you rest in the living room first? I’ll go to the kitchen to cook with Liyun. That way, the food will be ready faster.”
Without waiting for Lu Shutian to reply, Yan Sui quickly walked toward Jian Liyun with the tofu. “Let’s go, Liyun. We’ll fry the rest of the fish.”
The two of them went into the kitchen. Jian Liyun washed vegetables without saying a word. Yan Sui cautiously leaned over. “Liyun?”
Jian Liyun didn’t speak, just looked up at her.
Even though nothing had happened between her and Lu Shutian, Yan Sui felt a little guilty for some reason.
She explained in a small voice, “It’s true. I ran into her on the way to the village entrance. She said the person who was supposed to deliver the tofu had something to do, and since she also had work here for the next few days, she helped bring it over.”
“Oh.”
Yan Sui poured the tofu onto the cutting board and leaned back toward Jian Liyun. “I actually refused her at first, but she insisted on coming, and I couldn’t really say no. After all, she’s also in the industry, and it would be awkward for you two to meet in the future if I made it too difficult for her.”
Jian Liyun finished washing the cabbage leaves and placed them in the draining basket.
She then turned on the faucet to wash her hands. The sound of the running water made her voice less clear.
“Lu Shutian is beautiful and sings well. She also has real singing talent, so her future is promising.”
Jian Liyun was stating a fact, so Yan Sui agreed. “Yeah.”
But Yan Sui thought to herself, So what? As long as Jian Liyun doesn’t get obsessed with the male lead and ruin her career, she’ll have an even better future than the female and male leads.
Jian Liyun turned off the faucet and nonchalantly wiped her hands with a handkerchief. “Maybe if you were her agent, she could give you a better return.”
Yan Sui almost choked. To this day, she still didn’t understand Jian Liyun’s thought process.
“Liyun, what are you talking about? How could I possibly…”
Jian Liyun interrupted her. “That tofu is yours, right?”
Why are we talking about tofu again? Yan Sui nodded. “Yeah, I asked Sister Zhang to bring it to me. Why?”
Jian Liyun pursed her lips, as if she was preparing herself mentally before asking, “Then why did you let her help you carry the tofu?”
“No,” Yan Sui really wanted to scratch her head. “You, what? I, huh?”
Jian Liyun walked past Yan Sui toward the tofu on the cutting board and picked up a shiny kitchen knife.
“It’s your tofu. Why did you let her help you carry it?”
As she spoke, Jian Liyun had already cut the tofu into many pieces.
Yan Sui’s brain was about to crash. “She said she wanted to help me carry it, so I…”
“Then why—”
Jian Liyun’s question was cut off abruptly halfway through.
Yan Sui was on the verge of a breakdown. “Why what? Liyun, say it.”
Why didn’t you let me help you carry the cabbage before, even though it was so heavy? But you let Lu Shutian carry this light piece of tofu for you.
Perhaps realizing that these words were indeed difficult to say, Jian Liyun could only keep a cold face and say nothing.
Jian Liyun was holding the cold, gleaming kitchen knife, and her whole demeanor was ominous. Her dark eyes weren’t fixed on Yan Sui, but it seemed like they would lock onto her at any second.
Then, Jian Liyun walked toward Yan Sui with the knife.
No way, is the supporting female lead so angry she’s going to kill me?
Yan Sui was truly confused. She really didn’t understand what the other person was unhappy about. She felt she had already explained herself clearly enough.
“Even if I’m going to die, at least let me know why, Liyun,” Yan Sui reached out to Jian Liyun. “What exactly are you angry with me about?”
The moment Yan Sui reached out, Jian Liyun turned the hand holding the knife away, keeping both her hand and the knife away from Yan Sui.
“I have a knife in my hand. It’s dangerous for you to suddenly come so close.”
After saying that, Jian Liyun walked past Yan Sui and started cleaning the water stains off the knife.
“Liyun, I…”
Lu Shutian suddenly appeared at the kitchen door. “Jie, what are you two so busy with? I can’t just be a freeloader. Is there anything I can help with?”
“Wow, the female lead is so enthusiastic. She’s here to help make things more chaotic.”
Yan Sui couldn’t be bothered to argue with the system. She quickly turned her head. “No, no need. We’ll be done soon. There’s a TV in the living room. You can watch it if you’re bored.”
After finally getting rid of the great Buddha that was Lu Shutian, Yan Sui sighed. She looked at Jian Liyun, who was about to start frying the fish, and saw a half-smile on her face that wasn’t a smile.
“Jie, jie?”
Yan Sui was heating the oil in the pan. Her mind was filled with the thought of quickly making the food so Lu Shutian would eat and leave. She didn’t notice that Jian Liyun’s expression had turned completely cold.
“Oh, she should be younger than me. She just started calling me that when we first met.”
Jian Liyun said nothing.
The stove fire was strong, and the oil was already hot.
Yan Sui looked around. “Liyun, where did you put the marinated fish?”
