After Swapping Bodies with the Movie Queen, She Ended Up with Me (GL) - Chapter 47
Zhou Ying’s words nearly made Mu Lingwan spit out her coffee.
“What nonsense are you talking about?” Mu Lingwan wiped her lips awkwardly and said, “I’ve already told you I’m not superstitious.”
“But science can’t explain what’s happening now. Aren’t you going to try metaphysics as a last resort?” Zhou Ying sipped her coffee calmly and said, “Or do you prefer this current dynamic and want to stay as Rong Qing forever?”
Mu Lingwan: “…”
Zhou Ying continued, “After struggling for so many years, are you really going to let all your efforts go to waste because of this? That girl Rong Qing can cover for you temporarily, but do you think she can keep your career thriving until you’re forty or fifty?”
Mu Lingwan frowned. “Stop talking.”
Zhou Ying persuaded her, “Trying won’t cost you anything. Haven’t you both attempted it before? Now it’s just about intimacy. When you and Rong Qing first made headlines, wasn’t it because you kissed in the car?”
“That was different.”
“How is it different?”
Zhou Ying blinked at her and whispered, “If you’re really that embarrassed, why not turn your fake relationship with Rong Qing into a real one? I’d love to see that kind of plot, honestly.”
Mu Lingwan couldn’t stand her and glared before straightening up. “Don’t you have anything better to do? If not, go home. We don’t need you here anymore.”
Zhou Ying pouted and left with her coffee.
That afternoon, Mu Lingwan sat in the car lost in thought, occasionally glancing at Rong Qing filming, her heart filled with mixed emotions.
When the day’s shoot ended, Rong Qing packed up, removed her makeup, changed clothes, and scheduled to continue filming the next day.
“Teacher Mu,” Fang Lei popped up and said to Rong Qing, who was preparing to pack her things, “Let me help you. Tomorrow’s a night shoot, so you can sleep in tomorrow morning.”
Rong Qing nodded gratefully. She’d been filming day and night these past few days and still had to go home to memorize lines. Though tomorrow’s shoot might last until dawn, the thought of getting some extra sleep already made her happy!
“You should rest well too,” Rong Qing said with a smile. “See you tomorrow.”
Fang Lei waved sweetly. “Teacher Mu, see you tomorrow~”
Mu Lingwan sat in the driver’s seat, watching their enthusiastic exchange through the rearview mirror. As soon as Rong Qing got in the car, she floored the accelerator before Rong Qing could even fasten her seatbelt.
“What’s wrong?”
After leaving the filming base, Rong Qing glanced curiously at Mu Lingwan’s darkened expression and asked, “Did someone upset you? You don’t look happy.”
“No,” Mu Lingwan said stiffly. “I’m in a great mood.”
Liar.
Rong Qing wasn’t blind—she could see Mu Lingwan’s foul mood. But she didn’t know the reason, and she wasn’t good with words or sweet-talking to cheer Mu Lingwan up. So she simply shut her mouth and waited for Mu Lingwan to cool down.
When Mu Lingwan realized Rong Qing had only asked once and didn’t press further, all her grievances withered in her stomach, making her even angrier.
Mu Lingwan frowned, staring at the road ahead. “Aren’t you going to ask why I’m angry?”
Rong Qing froze, hesitating before finally asking, “Why are you angry?”
“Because of you, obviously.”
“…Huh?”
Rong Qing couldn’t keep up with the conversation. She kept feeling Mu Lingwan had some issue with her, but she’d been behaving properly on set today without doing anything wrong, hadn’t she?
Could it be about her acting?
“I did have a few scenes that weren’t perfect today,” Rong Qing racked her brain and said. “I’m not used to wirework—I’m a bit afraid of heights. The director already pointed that out. And that horse riding scene… well, even though it was a prop horse, I didn’t do well either. It might look strange on camera. I’ll pay more attention in the future.”
“I wasn’t talking about those things.”
Mu Lingwan grew visibly displeased, signaled, and pulled the car over to the roadside. After yanking the handbrake, she turned to Rong Qing and blurted out, “You’ve been getting awfully close to Fang Lei today, haven’t you?”
Rong Qing looked at her in shock, completely at a loss.
She carefully reviewed her actions throughout the day and realized Fang Lei had been the one approaching her all along—she’d merely responded out of politeness.
Was it… that Mu Lingwan disliked her?
But Rong Qing had heard the two were on good terms, which was why she’d felt comfortable joking around with Fang Lei.
“Did I do something wrong?” Rong Qing asked worriedly. “Then I’ll keep my distance from her tomorrow. We’ll wrap up filming in a few days anyway.”
Mu Lingwan sat silently in her seat for a long moment before softening her tone to ask, “Do you think Fang Lei is a good person?”
Rong Qing found Mu Lingwan’s words increasingly puzzling. First she complained about Fang Lei getting too close, now she was asking if Rong Qing liked her. Could it be… Mu Lingwan was jealous?
Considering Mu Lingwan’s current tone and attitude, plus how Fang Lei had been clinging to her these past two days, Rong Qing reasonably suspected the two might have had some history before knowing her. Perhaps Rong Qing, now in Mu Lingwan’s body, had unknowingly been flirting with someone from Mu Lingwan’s past?
That would certainly explain the jealousy.
“She’s… alright, I guess,” Rong Qing carefully measured her words with a smile. “A lively girl like Fang Lei—who wouldn’t like her? But my feelings toward her are purely collegial. Yes, that’s all.”
Rong Qing’s overly deliberate explanation made Mu Lingwan give her an extra glance before sighing and leaning back in her seat. “Fang Lei isn’t as simple as she seems. Keep your interactions with her to a minimum—surface-level politeness is enough.”
Mu Lingwan didn’t hold back, recounting the incident from lunchtime. Rong Qing’s eyes widened in disbelief upon hearing it.
“I never would’ve guessed she’d say something like that,” Rong Qing marveled. “She seemed so natural around me—I couldn’t tell at all.”
Mu Lingwan didn’t mention that she hadn’t noticed either before. If not for their body swap, she’d never have known how many snakes lurked in her social circle. But since they couldn’t switch back anytime soon, Mu Lingwan might as well use this opportunity to test who around her was genuine.
These were matters Mu Lingwan certainly didn’t plan to share with Rong Qing. Her main task now was to film this drama well in Mu Lingwan’s stead—no need to dig into other issues.
“Just stay away from her from now on,” Mu Lingwan restarted the car and began driving again, when suddenly Rong Qing beside her remarked, “Hmm, Teacher Xu Qing really is better. No wonder you’ve been friends with her for so many years.”
Mu Lingwan frowned. “What does Xu Qing have to do with this?”
Rong Qing smiled and said, “I just feel she’s genuinely a good person. You saw how she was in the program crew—what you see is what you get, treating both you and me equally well.”
Mu Lingwan slightly relaxed her furrowed brows and remarked, “That’s because she’s a fool. Fools usually have kind hearts.”
“Haha, if Teacher Xu Qing heard you say that about her, she’d definitely be angry,” Rong Qing replied, her mood lightening as she pressed the car window button. The roadside wind rushed violently into the car, tousling Rong Qing’s long hair.
Mu Lingwan glanced over and moved her fingers to close the window. “Be careful of being photographed,” she warned.
Rong Qing touched her nose and responded with an “Oh.”
The two remained silent for the rest of the journey. As they approached the traffic light near their home, Mu Lingwan finally voiced the question that had been weighing on her mind.
“Do you really like someone like Xu Qing?” Mu Lingwan asked.
“Yeah,” Rong Qing answered straightforwardly.
Mu Lingwan was left speechless. Even after returning home, she couldn’t figure out what Xu Qing, that fool, had that made Rong Qing like her. Was it just because she could sing? Well, she could act too!
Perhaps thoughts by day led to dreams by night. That very evening, Mu Lingwan had a dream.
In the dream, she was trending on social media again, but this time, the topic was different—it announced that she and Xu Qing were together. The comments were flooded with uniform blessings like “99,” leaving Mu Lingwan utterly bewildered.
When she turned around, she saw Rong Qing and Xu Qing in her kitchen, cooking together in perfect harmony, their movements intimate and seamless.
Mu Lingwan stood there watching for a long time before stepping forward to grab Rong Qing’s arm. Her heart was frantic, but she couldn’t open her mouth to speak. In the end, she jolted awake from the dream, clutching the blanket on her bed, her forehead drenched in sweat.
Absurd!
Mu Lingwan covered her face with her hands, feeling utterly abnormal. Why was she dreaming about Rong Qing and Xu Qing together?!
The next morning, Rong Qing groggily opened her eyes to find a figure standing by her bed.
She was instantly startled awake, only to realize it was Mu Lingwan, who had inexplicably come to her room in the middle of the night!
“What—what are you doing standing by my bed in the middle of the night?” Rong Qing stammered, her face pale as she hugged the blanket, her heart still racing.
That sudden appearance had genuinely frightened her—her chest still ached from the shock!
Mu Lingwan, however, looked perfectly calm. Dressed in a black nightgown, she stood by the bed and said, “It’s already past five in the morning. Not exactly the middle of the night.”
Rong Qing stared at her in confusion, lowering the blanket as she asked, “Aren’t you going to sleep at five o’clock?”
Mu Lingwan didn’t answer.
Rong Qing studied her carefully before hesitantly asking, “Did you have a nightmare?”
Mu Lingwan frowned but didn’t deny it. In a way, that dream had indeed been terrifying. The mere thought of her name being linked with Xu Qing’s filled her with an inexplicable sense of dread.
Seeing Mu Lingwan remain silent, Rong Qing couldn’t help but laugh. She generously reached out and pulled her onto the bed. “I didn’t expect someone as grown-up as you to still be afraid of nightmares,” she teased, patting the pillow beside her. “Well, my bed’s big enough. Come rest with me for a while.”
It was rare for her not to have to wake up early today, and Rong Qing had no intention of being disturbed so soon.
Mu Lingwan’s eyes flickered in the darkness. After hesitating for two seconds, she kicked off her slippers and climbed onto Rong Qing’s bed.
Rong Qing gave up the warm spot she’d been heating all night to Mu Lingwan and moved to the cold side of the bed, shivering from the chill. Sensing this, Mu Lingwan immediately pressed close, wrapping her arms around Rong Qing from behind, her body radiating warmth.
“Hmm?” Rong Qing turned her head in confusion.
“Sleep,” Mu Lingwan murmured softly, her eyes closed. “Goodnight.”
Rong Qing was reminded of her first few days in the program group, when Mu Lingwan had held her like this to sleep. Truthfully, once she got used to it, it wasn’t uncomfortable at all. Instead, Mu Lingwan’s warmth was like a hot water bottle, making the cold bedding feel surprisingly cozy.
Her thoughts gradually grew fuzzy, and Rong Qing soon drifted off. At some point, she faintly heard an alarm, but before she could fully wake, it stopped, and she fell back asleep.
She slept soundly, waking only at 11 a.m., completely satisfied.
The day was overcast, the weak sunlight unable to penetrate the room, leaving it dim and drowsy. Stretching, Rong Qing realized the space beside her was empty.
Already awake?
Holding a corner of the blanket, she reached out to touch the other side of the bed—it was cold. Mu Lingwan must have been up for a while.
The thought of Mu Lingwan coming to her bedside this morning because of a nightmare made Rong Qing find her utterly endearing. Gone was her usual aloofness, replaced by a natural warmth that made Rong Qing feel closer to her.
Getting out of bed, Rong Qing wasn’t in a hurry to change—she didn’t need to be on set until 7 p.m. So she simply threw on a jacket over her pajamas and went to wash up. After brushing her teeth and washing her face, she stepped out of the bedroom, peering curiously downstairs.
Mu Lingwan was on a call below. Sensing eyes on her, she looked up, meeting Rong Qing’s gaze.
“Understood. I’ll hang up now,” Mu Lingwan said, ending the call after a few more words. Just then, Rong Qing descended the stairs.
Rong Qing’s eyes darted around, her heartbeat quickening slightly as she remembered how Mu Lingwan had held her last night. Too embarrassed to look directly at her, she scratched her cheek and asked softly, “So… did you sleep well last night?”
