After Swapping Bodies with the Movie Queen, She Ended Up with Me (GL) - Chapter 6
The news of Rong Qing leaving AG spread like wildfire within the girl group. Upon hearing it, everyone wore expressions that said, “I knew it would happen.”
“I told you she wouldn’t stay with us after cozying up to Mu Lingwan,” a group of girls in training outfits gossiped during their break in the practice room.
“Hmph, wasn’t she just lucky? She was always at the bottom of the rankings before. Who knows what she did to get close to Mu Lingwan?”
“Don’t be like that. Even if Rong Qing wasn’t great at performing, she’s still pretty. Maybe Mu Lingwan just has a thing for her type.”
“That’s hilarious. You think Rong Qing is pretty? She’s downright ugly! Isn’t our captain the prettiest in the group? Mu Lingwan must be blind to pick her.”
At this, several heads turned toward Xia Yiran, who was quietly stretching in her black bodysuit nearby, her expression unreadable.
“Captain,” one of the more outspoken girls piped up, “Rong Qing is about to hit the big time after this. There’s no way we can catch up now. It’s all up to you—you’re the most popular idol here, after all.”
Others chimed in, “Exactly! Yiran is way prettier than Rong Qing. If Mu Lingwan had met you first, Rong Qing would still be playing in the mud somewhere.”
“I always thought Rong Qing was scheming. She acts all quiet, but she was probably just waiting for this big break.”
“Ugh, poor Mu Lingwan, getting tricked by such a calculating woman. Who knows how she’s being used…”
The gossip spiraled as they dredged up every past misstep of Rong Qing’s time in the group. Xia Yiran stayed silent, methodically wrapping sports tape around her wrists, her eyes dark and inscrutable.
No girl who made it into AG was unattractive, and Rong Qing was no exception. But among the members, comparisons were inevitable—the quiet ones were called pretentious, the outgoing ones labeled vain and cunning. Anyone who got ahead faced resentment unless it benefited them all.
Xia Yiran understood this dynamic well. Yet she couldn’t fathom why she hadn’t been the one to land a relationship with Mu Lingwan.
At the last Fashion Night, she’d pulled countless strings just to sneak in through a service entrance, while Rong Qing had waltzed right through the front door, even throwing some cutting remarks her way. Only the formal setting had stopped Xia Yiran from teaching her a lesson then and there.
Now Rong Qing was leaving the group to follow Mu Lingwan, rumored to have landed a top-tier dating show gig.
The jealousy burned hotter.
Was she really doomed to watch Rong Qing rise to stardom while she remained a minor idol, forced to flirt with greasy middle-aged men over the phone until she aged out of the industry? To eventually marry some divorced, beer-bellied old man with kids?
Xia Yiran refused that fate. After the others left, she opened her locker, pulled out her phone, and tapped open Rong Qing’s chat window.
Back when she was the team captain, Xia Yiran wouldn’t even glance at Rong Qing. Their chat history mostly consisted of Xia ordering Rong to bring her coffee, breakfast, or clean the training room and dorm. Yet just one month later, their situations had completely reversed.
Jealousy burned in Xia Yiran’s chest. After much deliberation, she finally sent Rong Qing a message:
Heard you’re leaving AG. Congrats! You’ll definitely go further with Mu Lingwan than at AG. You’ve finally found such a great patron—don’t forget us sisters when you’re famous. Remember to share good opportunities if you get any.
After sending it, Xia added another line: Ah, I’m so jealous you get to be with Mu Lingwan. She must treat you really well. Sometimes I admire how brave you are.
Two ‘ding’ notifications sounded from the phone on the desk.
Mu Lingwan looked up from her book at the device beside her. During this body-swapping period, she and Rong Qing had exchanged phones to avoid suspicion if calls came through.
Now, reading Xia Yiran’s two messages, she couldn’t help but scoff.
You’ll definitely go further with Mu Lingwan than at AG
Â
You’ve finally found such a great patron
Â
Sometimes I admire how brave you are
Mu Lingwan recognized the name—this was that girl group captain who’d sneaked up the emergency stairs. These messages pretended to be congratulatory, but every word implied Rong Qing was gold-digging.
Amused, Mu Lingwan scrolled through Xia and Rong’s past chats—nothing but coffee runs and cleaning duties. And this girl thought she could play mind games?
Please. Mu Lingwan had mastered these tricks years ago.
Leaning back on the sofa, she typed a quick reply: Never seen someone date up before? How provincial ‘eye roll’.
After sending it, Mu Lingwan immediately blocked the contact.
Just a clown who could only bully Rong Qing. If she dared jump around in front of Mu Lingwan, she could crush her with one finger.
Xia Yiran had just finished packing when she saw the reply. Furious, she typed a single ? only to find herself blocked, her face turning pale with rage.
“What the hell? How dare she speak to me like this?” Xia threw her jacket on the floor in a fit.
Ava walked in to find Xia fuming at her phone. Pausing, the manager approached. “What’s going on?”
“Sis,” Xia immediately showed her the screen. “Look how infuriating Rong Qing is! How could she talk to me this way?”
Ava glanced at it expressionlessly, then gave Xia a measured look that made her squirm.
“Yiran,” Ava said calmly, “I never pressed you about how you treated Rong Qing in the group. But she’s different now. Offending Rong Qing is one thing—but never cross Mu Lingwan. If you want to stay in this industry, understand this: Mu Lingwan is the one woman you cannot afford to offend.”
Xia Yiran’s heart tightened as she frowned and said, “Sis, is it really that serious? She’s just more famous, isn’t she? Besides, Rong Qing is using her too. If Mu Lingwan finds out, she’ll definitely be angry.”
Ava shook her head and warned Xia Yiran, “In any case, listen to me—you won’t regret it. Don’t go looking for Rong Qing anymore. Focus on preparing your new dance. Who knows, I might even get you a variety show contract.”
Though unhappy, Xia Yiran nodded with a bright smile. “Thanks, sis. I’ll definitely practice hard.”
Rong Qing had no idea what was happening. At that moment, she was helping Mu Lingwan pack her luggage.
“We’re heading to the set next week, so just pack the essentials,” Zhou Ying said as she placed Mu Lingwan’s frequently used toiletries into the suitcase. She then neatly folded freshly washed and dried towels, sealed them, and placed them inside as well.
Rong Qing watched Zhou Ying’s meticulous movements in amazement—she had never seen someone pack like this before.
Noticing her gaze, Zhou Ying chuckled lightly and explained, “Our Lingwan is a Virgo. She’s extremely particular about everything, especially towels and shower gels. So, we have to prepare everything in advance whenever she travels.”
Rong Qing gave her a sympathetic look. “Then being her agent must be really tough, huh?”
“Being an agent isn’t too bad—I don’t always help her pack,” Zhou Ying said, closing the suitcase with a sigh. “The real hard work falls on Lingwan’s assistants. They’re the ones lugging suitcases and moving things around every time. To be blunt, Lingwan is difficult to please. If you stay with her… you might have to endure some hardships.”
“Huh?” Rong Qing was taken aback by Zhou Ying’s pitying look. “No way. Lingwan has been really nice to me. She even cooked for me herself.”
“Seriously?” Zhou Ying covered her mouth in shock. “She actually cooks? Did the sun rise from the west today?”
Rong Qing’s eyes curved into crescents as she smiled, but before she could speak, she spotted Mu Lingwan standing eerily at the doorway and immediately fell silent. Seeing her expression change, Zhou Ying quickly turned around—only to find Mu Lingwan glowering behind her.
“Go on,” Mu Lingwan said sarcastically. “Why stop now?”
Zhou Ying forced an awkward laugh and pretended not to see Mu Lingwan, turning back to Rong Qing instead. “Are those clothes folded? Put them in this suitcase. Luckily, the weather’s been mild lately—we can fit a few extra pieces.”
Mu Lingwan, annoyed at being ignored, called out to Rong Qing, “Come here.”
Rong Qing pointed at herself. “Me?”
“Yes, you.” Mu Lingwan led her to the second-floor hallway, casually handed her phone to Rong Qing, and leaned against the wall with crossed arms. “If we’re acting, we’re doing it properly. Switch to a matching couple’s phone. You can keep your old one, but don’t use it anymore. A car will pick us up tomorrow to take us to the set—be mentally prepared.”
Rong Qing stared at her phone, then looked up at Mu Lingwan. After a long hesitation, she finally asked, “Are you… worried about me?”
Mu Lingwan gave her a deep look and said, “I’m just worried you might slip up. There will be tons of cameras around, and I’m afraid you might not be used to such situations, so I’m reminding you in advance. Most variety shows follow scripts—just do as I’ve taught you and follow my lead for everything else.”
Rong Qing nodded obediently.
The more Mu Lingwan looked at her, the more she liked what she saw. Indeed, she had a soft spot for such well-behaved girls.
Initially, she thought this dating show would just be a formality to give Rong Qing some exposure—an easy paycheck with no real pressure, since it was all just acting anyway. But when Mu Lingwan and Rong Qing arrived at the hotel where the show was staying, they spotted a woman in a pink shirt and white suit pants smiling and waving at them.
Without hesitation, Xu Qing immediately pulled Rong Qing into a tight hug, even sneakily giving her waist a little squeeze, and beamed at her, saying, “Long time no see, my dear Lingwan~”
Standing right beside them, Mu Lingwan wasn’t even the one being hugged, yet she felt goosebumps rise all over her.
Why had no one told her that Xu Qing, this absolute madwoman, would be here too?!
