- Chapter 13 - True Love Means Giving You Freedom
Although He Roushuang had told Shi Qing she didn’t need to take on so many jobs, Shi Qing only canceled her nighttime work. After finishing her daytime tasks, she still chose to continue her regular part-time jobs.
You can’t put all your eggs in one basket, Shi Qing understood this principle deeply and refused to abandon her path to financial independence.
Still young, she knew she needed to wait until she was fully mature before giving up her part-time work and pursuing more lucrative industries.
He Roushuang listened to Assistant Wang’s report without offering any comment.
Assistant Wang, still thinking of He Roushuang as the old President He, misinterpreted her silence as simmering anger.
“Her work hours should be entirely bought out by you, Boss. Working privately now violates the agreement. Should I bring her back?”
He Roushuang glanced at Assistant Wang.
It seemed she needed to clarify a few things. The ability to understand the CEO’s thoughts with a single glance was simply too impressive.
“No need,” He Roushuang said, looking up from her documents. A smile she couldn’t quite suppress tugged at the corners of her lips. “Let her be independent. It’s good for her.”
Having read the novel, He Roushuang felt an overwhelming fondness and sympathy for the female lead. Everything she did now was aimed at making the other woman’s life more comfortable.
“Huh?!”
This time, Assistant Wang was the one left bewildered. He couldn’t for the life of him understand why the young mistress had suddenly become so benevolent.
“What’s with the ‘huh’? Just keep a close eye on her,” He Roushuang said, frowning slightly as she adopted the original owner’s disdainful expression.
Whenever she wore that look, Assistant Wang always seemed to think, Now that’s more like it.
He Roushuang:Â ……
While she found playing the villain relatively stress-free, she didn’t want to be the wicked antagonist every single day! The fates of villains were always so utterly miserable.
Shi Qing quit her job at the bar, feeling much lighter. The customers there weren’t interested in her singing; most of the time, they just stared at her with leering eyes.
It felt like she was a lamb waiting to be slaughtered on a farm, and the customers were butchers, their gazes scanning every inch of her flesh, calculating how to carve her up.
But the bar patrons were probably thinking about how to savor her.
With her evenings now dedicated to rest and spending time with He Roushuang, Shi Qing had no choice but to resign from all her nighttime entertainment jobs.
This was actually a welcome relief for her.
During the day, Shi Qing kept only one part-time job: serving dishes at a five-star restaurant. Her striking looks had earned her special permission from the manager to work there part-time.
The tips alone at such a high-end establishment were substantial, one of the main reasons Shi Qing had been reluctant to quit.
But today, she ran into trouble.
Shortly after a table of customers placed their order, they rang the bell, summoning a server.
The man at the head of the table had a menacing look, clearly looking for a fight.
“Sir, madam, is there a problem?”
Shi Qing asked gently, her voice soft. Having worked at the hotel for quite some time, she was no stranger to difficult customers.
“What kind of soup is this? It tastes awful!” the man slammed his hand heavily on the table, pointing at the pot of chicken soup with a hostile tone.
Shi Qing encountered picky customers like this several times a day. She simply smiled, her lips maintaining a sweet curve.
“This soup is made with freshly slaughtered chickens from our kitchen. If you’re not satisfied, we can replace it for you,” she offered calmly.
Little did she know, the man had come with an agenda. The chicken soup was perfectly fine; his primary goal was to humiliate and embarrass her.
“Damn it! I’ve already drunk it! What’s the point of replacing it now? I want you to drink this soup and see if it tastes like chicken sh1t!” the man slammed the table again, rattling the dishes and bowls.
“Could it be that the chicken wasn’t properly cleaned? Please tell me, and I’ll contact the manager to arrange compensation. We’ll even cover your medical expenses if you need to get checked at the hospital.” If there was actually something wrong with the soup, there was no need for her to try it.
This was a pot from the kitchen, but the server was bearing the brunt of the customer’s anger.
“No…”
“I want you to drink this chicken soup.” The man raised an eyebrow and scooped up a spoonful of the soup.
“If you dare to drink it, I won’t make a scene in the restaurant. If you don’t, it proves your establishment deliberately disgusts customers.”
Shi Qing took a deep breath and slowly approached. She resisted, but she had already seen the manager enter, his gaze unmistakable.
Drink this soup and defuse the situation.
Her chest and lungs felt as if they were blocked by something. Finally, Shi Qing reached out and accepted the spoonful of soup, which was served in a porcelain bowl.
It was impossible to discern the ingredients.
She swallowed the soup in one gulp. A bizarre flavor spread across her tongue, like pepper mixed with mustard, burning her throat.
But she immediately realized this man was deliberately provoking her. Whether he was sent by the neighboring restaurant or someone else, she couldn’t spit out the soup.
If she did, she would offend the manager, whose connections were rumored to be vast. She might find it impossible to work in any hotel in the city.
So she forced herself to swallow, the humiliation and resentment burning in her throat.
The man was visibly stunned. This soup contained an excessive amount of industrial chili extract and artificial mustard—ingredients no ordinary person could tolerate.
Yet Shi Qing remained composed, acting as if nothing had happened. If not for the slight flush on her ears, no one would have noticed her distress.
Halfway through processing documents, He Roushuang suddenly remembered something. According to her calculations, the female lead was about to face a difficult ordeal.
When reading novels, no one pays attention to the passage of days, and He Roushuang was no exception.
By the time she realized she was about to experience the plot where the female lead, working part-time at a restaurant, was humiliated by a demanding customer, it was already too late!
The sun was setting.
He Roushuang didn’t even have time to call a driver. She jumped into her Bentley and sped toward the restaurant where Shi Qing worked.
Fortunately, He Roushuang still remembered the restaurant’s location. After all, there were only a handful of five-star hotels in the city, and she had become intimately familiar with them during her few days in this world.
Heh heh… No matter how tough things get, you can’t make it harder on yourself.
So, without even glancing at the GPS, she knew exactly how to get to the hotel, taking numerous shortcuts along the way.
After parking, she ignored the enthusiastic staff and headed straight for the private dining rooms.
“Miss, these rooms are reserved for guests. You can’t enter.”
As expected, He Roushuang was stopped.
But she had come prepared.
After all, this restaurant was already hers.
“Don’t you recognize me?”
“Your real boss.”
He Roushuang angrily threw down her business card and shoved the door open.
