- Chapter 32 - Bending Steel into Mosquito Coils in One Step
He Roushuang felt like a cat caught red-handed, unsure how to explain herself. She had indeed been quite intoxicated the previous night.
Though she desperately wanted to deny it and stubbornly defend herself, she knew she wasn’t the type to maintain a defiant attitude even as she was being pushed into an incinerator.
She couldn’t suppress the fluttering in her heart.
She had to admit, the Female Lead was simply better at seduction, capable of stirring that primal desire deep within her.
“That’s a bite mark from when I pushed you away,” she said, trying to sound nonchalant.
But surrendering in her heart didn’t mean she had to surrender with her words. If the Female Lead ever discovered her true feelings, it would be a disaster.
“Oh…”
Shi Qing lowered her gaze, a hint of dejection in her eyes.
Still, things were finally progressing, weren’t they?
Just recently, her sister wouldn’t even let her touch her. Now, they were kissing each other raw.
Shi Qing wasn’t greedy. As long as things were moving forward, she was happy. After all, in such a wretched family environment, it was impossible to survive without a strong and optimistic heart.
“I won’t be going out for the next few days.”
“I’m sorry, Sister… I haven’t been following the rules properly, even though I said I’d be your personal maid.”
Shi Qing had only agreed to attend the chaotic class reunion to glean some romantic insights. The subsequent events were entirely beyond her control.
If He Roushuang hadn’t hung up on her earlier, she might have returned much earlier, sparing He Roushuang the trouble of personally picking her up.
And carrying her back in full view of everyone.
He Roushuang never expected Shi Qing to make such an outrageous request. She gently shook her head.
“You don’t need to do this.”
Her reasons for saving the Female Lead were twofold: first, to prevent the Male Lead from gaining too much power.
After all, every romance novel’s Female Lead possesses the ultimate buff: a husband-blessing destiny.
If the Male Lead were to win the Female Lead, he would become unstoppable, as described in the novels—like a tiger gaining wings.
He Roushuang was determined to prevent this outcome. However, this wasn’t her sole motivation for saving the Female Lead.
It was affection.
“I know, but this is what I should do.”
Shi Qing shook her head. The sky outside must already be bright, even the curtains couldn’t completely block the light.
Staying in bed any longer would truly fulfill the ancient poem’s line: “The spring night is short, and the day rises early.”
Shi Qing possessed remarkable self-discipline, easily resisting the bed’s lingering embrace.
He Roushuang, however, struggled.
Who understands this?
Even after transmigrating into a novel, I still have to wake up early.
I thought I could sleep as long as I wanted, without a care in the world.
But reality proved that sleeping was a privilege reserved for the idle. He Roushuang had now adopted the original owner’s lifestyle: the moment she opened her eyes, she was either scheming to overthrow the male lead or plotting her next move.
Though the original owner’s daily routine had consisted of tormenting the male and female leads.
While He Roushuang was lost in thought, Shi Qing had already dressed.
“Should we change the dressing on your head wound?”
Shi Qing was deeply concerned about He Roushuang’s injury, but asking directly felt too forward. She waited until they were up before cautiously raising the question.
Shi Qing made a heartbreaking discovery: she knew nothing about the person before her. But that didn’t matter. With enough effort, she would eventually uncover every detail of He Roushuang’s life.
Including every mole on her body, even those hidden in places the owner herself couldn’t see.
“Yes,” Shi Qing replied.
He Roushuang didn’t want Shi Qing to see her looking like a vulture. It would completely ruin the cool, dominant CEO image she had carefully cultivated in the Female Lead’s mind!
Despite her reservations, He Roushuang accepted Shi Qing’s help. She couldn’t just slap the bandages on her head haphazardly.
She could have called a doctor, but that would have been too dramatic.
Completely ignoring Shi Qing, treating her like a mere decorative vase, would have been equally rude.
There was a first-aid kit in the house, and Shi Qing had grown somewhat familiar with the layout, no longer feeling completely lost.
Like a little hamster scurrying around, she quickly located the medicine cabinet.
“My hair was shaved, so I might look a bit ugly.”
They say women dress to please their admirers, but He Roushuang couldn’t understand why she was so concerned about her appearance in front of Shi Qing, especially since she didn’t truly love her.
“I know,” Shi Qing replied. “It’s just a normal part of the treatment.”
Well, at least it’s not a bald spot, He Roushuang thought. That would ruin my ethereal, mature woman image in the Female Lead’s eyes.
The gauze on her head came off easily, revealing a scab that had already formed. It wasn’t a serious wound.
Shi Qing considered this. If a scab had formed, it meant the wound was healing properly and didn’t need further medication. Still, for aesthetic reasons, she decided to cover it with gauze.
“Sister He, would you mind telling me the truth?”
Having finished tending to the wound, Shi Qing sat on the edge of the bed, gazing intently at He Roushuang. She wanted to understand everything about the woman before her.
“It’s nothing. I just had a fight with He Shanjian,” He Roushuang said, feigning nonchalance.
Though she appeared to be the loser on the surface, those who knew the truth understood that she was the ultimate victor.
“He’s your brother! How could he do something like this?” Shi Qing asked, her voice low with anger, but still strangely endearing.
“You just met him today? After that humiliating stunt he pulled at the bar, I wanted to punch him right then and there. Ideally, I’d break his hand so he could never throw money at people like that again.”
Shi Qing recalled that moment at the bar.
It was actually a painful memory, but hearing He Roushuang describe it so casually made it seem less unbearable.
“Did you win the fight, Sister?” Shi Qing asked, noticing a slight grimace on He Roushuang’s face.
Okay…
I said the wrong thing again.
Looks like I can’t just blurt out anything when trying to make conversation.
Shi Qing mentally berated herself, clumsily trying to learn how couples should interact.
“N-no, but that jerk is probably having a rough time these days,” He Roushuang said.
He Roushuang’s guess was surprisingly accurate. If nothing went wrong, the Male Lead would indeed be enduring a difficult period.
But no matter how hard ordinary people try, their efforts pale in comparison to the Male Lead’s protagonist halo.
He Roushuang didn’t know that the Male Lead was already protected by this halo.
Shi Qing nodded.
“Even though you’re siblings, the difference between you is huge.”
“Sister He, you’re so much more polite than him.”
Shi Qing was clumsy when she tried to compliment people, but this wasn’t just a compliment; it was a genuine expression from the depths of her heart.
“Thank you for the compliment,” He Roushuang said with a smile.
She reached out and playfully tilted Shi Qing’s chin upward, forcing her to look directly into her eyes.
“But if it weren’t for him, I might never have noticed you.”
“What a thoughtful little brother, picking out a girlfriend for his sister.”
He Roushuang spoke in a teasing tone, unaware that the word “girlfriend” made Shi Qing’s eyebrows involuntarily arch upward.
Though her heart fluttered with delight…
Still…
“I still wish you had met me first,” Shi Qing confessed, her true feelings spilling out. He Roushuang’s heart skipped a beat, as if molten marshmallow were flowing through her veins.
Ah… how can straight girls be so effortlessly flirtatious?
No…
He Roushuang began to suspect that Shi Qing had already gone from straight as an arrow to as twisted as a mosquito coil.
