After the Breakup, the Possessive Heiress Regretted It - Chapter 11
Chapter 11: Tomorrow It Is.
Pei Jinyue knew that what she was doing with someone else betrayed the Nian Nian who lived at the center of her heart.
But she couldn’t bear the longing anymore. It was like the sea—silent when it surged in, yet strong enough to drown her with ease. She couldn’t breathe, couldn’t escape, and could only slowly sink.
So, she knocked on Ji Wanmian’s door again and again.
But every time after she got what she wanted, she would immediately leave Ji Wanmian’s place—because even staying a second longer would make her regret her impulsiveness.
Pei Jinyue had deliberately avoided that one diary page where she mentioned Ji Wanmian, but the deeper she flipped into the book, the more often her name appeared—almost on every page.
“Nian Nian, today I saw Ji Wanmian clutching her stomach in pain. In that moment, I wondered… do you get stomachaches too?”
“Nian Nian, I casually gave Ji Wanmian a bracelet I had used for years and no longer liked, and just like that, her mood changed from sad to happy. If I later give you something truly precious, will you be just as happy? If so, would you forgive me for not finding you all these years?”
These were entries she had just written recently. Pei Jinyue picked up her pen and turned to a blank page.
It was time to write about the past two days.
She chose yesterday’s date.
“December 6th, rainy day.
Nian Nian, today I agreed to be with Ji Wanmian. Don’t worry—I’m only doing this so I can become a more normal, more emotionally expressive, more suitable lover for you.
Once we’re together, I’ll confess everything to you—including this diary I’ve filled.
My sincerity is clear and true.
I’ll do my best to avoid answering calls from strangers or acquaintances I’m not close to. I’ll only take calls from my family (except for Pei Siche) and from Qi Wanwan, who came to Su City to find you.
I really want to see you soon.
But I’m also afraid that once I do… I won’t be good enough.
So I’ve decided to first spend some time with Ji Wanmian as lovers.
This wasn’t an impulsive decision.
I happened to overhear my mother talking about an ‘arranged marriage,’ and I knew immediately—she has a clear preference for the successful, company-benefiting Pei Siche, so she would never choose her.
But as her other daughter, my fate is likely already sealed.
Still, I will never agree to it.
I’ll bring Ji Wanmian to see her, and tell her plainly: the one I love is a woman.
I’m sorry I didn’t have you come with me the first time.
But maybe it’s better that way—I can’t let you face this with me.
You must understand, everything I’m doing now is in preparation to be with you.
Nian Nian, I’m guessing we’re the same age.
So… you probably haven’t found someone yet, right?
Please don’t.
But even if you have, it’s okay.
I respect you, and I’m willing to wait.
But not for too long.
Not because I want to give up.
But because I believe—there is no one in this world who loves you more than I do.
Nian Nian, I love you so much.”
She wrote the word “love” over and over again.
But she didn’t write down the pain she was going through.
The “arranged marriage” she mentioned so lightly had been troubling her for days.
Even though she didn’t have the same complex emotions as others, she could still feel discomfort in her heart when things got heavy.
She wouldn’t feel at peace until it was made clear—she was terrified of being used as a pawn, thrown away like nothing by her mother.
Tomorrow then.
She would deal with it tomorrow.
Pei Jinyue closed the diary, lay down on her desk, and buried her face in her arms.
She shut her eyes and quietly fell asleep.
Only in her dreams at night could she briefly see Nian Nian.
…
The next morning, Ji Wanmian woke up early—even though she’d only gone to bed at 2 or 3 AM, she was wide awake by 8.
Maybe she was too excited at the thought that she and Pei Jinyue were actually together now—it was enough to make her restless.
All those sad midnight thoughts were swept away. A brand-new day deserved to be met with joy.
Not knowing whether Pei Jinyue might suddenly call or show up at her door, Ji Wanmian kept her phone by her side, volume on max.
She originally planned to just quickly brush her teeth and wash her face, but the moment she looked in the mirror, a thought struck her—what if Pei Jinyue did show up at her door?!
No way, no way—she couldn’t let Miss Pei see her looking like a mess.
So after breakfast, she rummaged through her apartment and finally found the makeup she used in college. Ever since she started drawing comics full-time, she worked mostly from home and rarely went out—makeup had become a thing of the past. At this point, just feeling clean and fresh was a win.
Sitting in front of her vanity mirror and staring at all the bottles and tubes, Ji Wanmian had no idea where to start.
Back in college, she had worn makeup even for 8 AM classes, just to “seduce” Pei Jinyue. She would wake up early every day, sneak out to the balcony so she wouldn’t wake her roommates, and finish a full face before anyone else was even up.
Now, even though she couldn’t remember the exact steps, she didn’t care—because she and Pei Jinyue were together now.
In the mirror, her smile practically reached the ceiling.
She pulled up a random beauty tutorial online and started from the beginning.
Skincare first.
Serums, creams—slathered them all on.
It was winter after all, and dry skin was a no-go.
While applying everything, she thought: This way, Pei Jinyue will get to touch my soft baby skin!
Sunscreen.
No cakey foundation, please—what if Pei Jinyue leans in to kiss her and sees a patchy face? Yikes.
Concealer.
Goodbye, dark circles—she had to look radiant for Pei Jinyue.
Foundation.
Her skin wasn’t too yellow to begin with, but after foundation, she looked a whole shade fairer—now she matched Pei Jinyue’s snow-white complexion.
After finishing the base, she made sure nothing was cakey, then sealed it all with setting spray. In the mirror, she thought, This really looks like my natural skin now!
Then came the hardest part: eye makeup.
But no worries—if she could draw beautiful characters, surely she could do her own eyes too, right?
Turns out—nope.
Even after carefully following the tutorial, her eyeliner ended up looking like a squiggly worm.
Ji Wanmian quietly turned off the tutorial and tried doing it her old way from college.
But the muscle memory was long gone.
Why was her hand trembling when she held the eyeliner pen?!
Sitting in front of the mirror, she kept wiping and redoing her makeup. Wipe, reapply. Wipe again.
Time passed, and not only did her eyeliner still look bad, but her whole face of makeup was starting to smudge.
What a waste of time.
Ji Wanmian stared at the mirror for a while… and then burst out laughing.
She was genuinely laughing from frustration.
Forget it—no point torturing herself.
Pei Jinyue probably wasn’t coming over anyway.
She grabbed her cleansing oil and ran to the bathroom to wash it all off.
Just as she turned on the faucet, she heard her phone ringing loudly in the living room.
She figured she’d finish removing her makeup first before answering, but what if—what if—it was Pei Jinyue calling?
She quickly shut off the water and rushed out, not even bothering to wipe the oil off her face.
Eyes barely open from the sting of makeup remover, she grabbed her phone and answered without even looking.
“Hello? Is this Ms. Ji? Are you interested in signing your child up for our tutoring program? We have—”
Ji Wanmian hung up instantly.
These random calls were so ridiculous.
She was only 24—where would she get a kid from?!
Not to mention, she was gay!
And she had zero interest in having kids right now!
Grumbling, Ji Wanmian put her phone down and went back to the bathroom.
But just as she reached the door, her phone rang again.
This time, no matter who it was—she wasn’t picking up.
Besides, Pei Jinyue was never this early with her calls. She usually only called in the evening or late at night.
So Ji Wanmian let the phone ring.
After she washed her face and returned to the living room, the ringtone had stopped.
She checked the screen.
Missed Call: “Jinyue”
