Chapter 13: Asking Someone to Drink at Night, You Should Know What That Means, Right?
The cherry blossom scent of Zhou Tian’s pheromones lingered in Wen Mingzhi’s mind, but she forcefully pushed the thought away. The two of them shouldn’t owe each other anything—it was better not to get involved again.
Avoiding trouble was always better than inviting it. Wen Mingzhi was long used to being alone.
Seated in the car, Wen Mingzhi lightly touched the exquisite custom watch on her wrist. Her friends’ recent teasing echoed in her head:
“What’s the big deal about keeping an alpha around?”
Tch. Annoying.
After taking the suppressant, the restlessness in her body quickly subsided.
Feeling much more at ease, Wen Mingzhi picked up her tablet and began checking emails.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Assistant Chen was well aware that her boss was currently in heat. She couldn’t help but admire her.
It had already been several days, yet Wen Mingzhi was still dutifully working.
The heat cycle was extremely uncomfortable. Chen herself always took time off to rest during hers.
But overworking wasn’t good either. She had already noticed that Wen Mingzhi didn’t seem well, so she immediately booked an appointment with Dr. Guan to have her checked.
“…”
“Have you had any contact with an alpha recently?” Dr. Guan asked after Wen Mingzhi explained her condition.
Wen Mingzhi was briefly stunned, then gave a slight nod.
“It’s probably because it’s been too long since you were last marked by an alpha. A sudden marking can throw your body off. And since you’re an S-class Omega, the number of alphas whose pheromones are compatible with you is very limited. But once you do match with one, it’s extremely difficult to break away.”
“What?” Wen Mingzhi had never heard of this before.
“I’ll give you an IV drip first,” Dr. Guan said. “You really shouldn’t overwork yourself like this. Your body is under a lot of strain. If the suppressant isn’t helping, it’s likely due to a combination of factors.”
“Alright,” Wen Mingzhi nodded.
“But this will only ease the symptoms. If you want a fast, harmless way to reduce your heat, being marked by an alpha is the best option. It’s actually better for your health,” Dr. Guan advised.
“Okay.”
“The dosage of suppressants you’re taking is getting higher and higher. If this keeps up, your body may become immune to them—or at least, that’s a possibility,” she warned.
“…”
“Was the alpha you were with recently the model Shen Yishuang?” Dr. Guan asked with a nosy glint in her eyes after finishing the consultation.
“Hmm?” Wen Mingzhi froze for a second, then the corners of her lips curved into a faint smile. “Take a guess.”
Having made up her mind, Wen Mingzhi didn’t hesitate—she wasn’t someone who sat around suffering.
She immediately asked Assistant Chen for Zhou Tian’s phone number and dialed her.
But no one answered.
Wen Mingzhi frowned. Someone actually dared not pick up her call?
“…”
At that moment, Zhou Tian was completely absorbed in her music, lost in songwriting.
Since there was no point in continuing with work, Wen Mingzhi returned to the Emerald Jade Courtyard.
Auntie Li took the opportunity to report, “President Wen, that Miss Zhou from last time changed back into her own clothes and went home.”
Wen Mingzhi raised an eyebrow but said nothing, casually sipping her tea.
Back in her third-floor room, she took a quick look around and then walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing out at the lush green forest. She picked up her phone again and called Zhou Tian, but still no answer.
A slight irritation began to stir within her. She ran a hand through her hair and returned to the sofa. Reaching for the cigarette box on the coffee table, she lit one. A soft cloud of smoke rose into the air, drifting away with her restlessness.
“…”
Zhou Tian suddenly looked up and noticed it was already dark outside. She picked up her phone and was surprised to see several missed calls lighting up the screen.
That familiar number—she immediately knew who it was. Her breath caught, and she hurriedly called back.
As the call connected, Zhou Tian’s heart leapt into her throat.
“Hello?” She cleared her throat and spoke softly.
“Hello, this is Wen Mingzhi. Long time no see. Want to grab a drink tonight?” Wen Mingzhi got straight to the point.
“Mm, sure.” Zhou Tian replied almost automatically before she even processed the words. Then she blinked in surprise. “Huh? A drink?”
“Yes. If you agree, I’ll send someone to pick you up shortly. Add me and send your address,” Wen Mingzhi stated directly, leaving no room for discussion.
“…Okay, okay…” Zhou Tian quickly agreed, not daring to overthink it.
After hanging up, her fingers were still trembling slightly.
Her goddess actually called her and invited her out for a drink!
Still, it probably just meant a literal drink, nothing more… right?
That’s what Zhou Tian told herself. She immediately bounced over to her wardrobe to pick out clothes, quickly settling on a pale yellow floral dress and a white cropped jacket.
Then she sat down at her vanity and started applying makeup, using brushes and puffs to pat her face carefully.
Of course she had to look pretty to see her goddess.
“…”
Meanwhile, at Emerald Jade Courtyard, Wen Mingzhi’s lips curved upward, her elegant phoenix eyes shimmering with star-like amusement.
Inviting someone for a drink at night—surely she understands what that means, right?
She really was such a good girl.
Wen Mingzhi was quite pleased with how quickly Zhou Tian had accepted the invitation.
Time passed slowly. Wen Mingzhi glanced at the small, delicious dishes already prepared on the table and lit another cigarette.
The driver had already gone to pick her up. Zhou Tian should be arriving soon.
The flickering embers of the cigarette mirrored the light that occasionally flickered in Wen Mingzhi’s eyes.
When the cigarette burned out, a bit of ash accidentally fell on the side of her middle finger. Under the warm lighting, the dark gray ash made her slender white fingers look even more delicate.
Her gaze lingered on the bit of ash, and a pensive expression crossed her face. In the end, she couldn’t help but laugh quietly.
Soon, the sound of a car engine rumbled through the courtyard. She was here.
Wen Mingzhi rose and stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, looking down.
The warm light pushed back the darkness. In the gray shadows, an alpha stepped out of the car, her figure graceful and elegant. She slowly walked forward, hands held neatly in front of her, visibly a bit nervous.
As she walked fully into the light, a golden glow bathed her body, highlighting her fair, smooth skin. Even her delicate face seemed to glow, like it had a built-in filter—radiant and beautiful, like the glow of sunset.
Wen Mingzhi silently observed her for a long while.
Her long hair hung straight and smooth, perfectly matching the soft yellow dress. Her lips were tinted with a rosy red lipstick—clearly, she had put in effort tonight.
Wen Mingzhi’s phoenix eyes lifted slightly in amusement.
Zhou Tian, following Auntie Li’s directions, headed up to the third floor. The familiar hallway greeted her, and the same art piece still hung on the wall. She glanced at it before slowly approaching the room. The door was ajar, but out of courtesy, she gave a symbolic knock before stepping inside the familiar bedroom.
“President Wen…” Zhou Tian called out softly, her voice shy and timid.
