Chapter 20: President Wen?!
Zhou Tian stared intently at her chat with Wen Mingzhi. A minute passed—no reply. Ten minutes—still nothing. Even after half an hour, there was no response.
By the time night fell, she still hadn’t received a single message from Wen Mingzhi.
For the rest of the day, Zhou Tian clutched her phone with a tense expression, her face occasionally clouded with sadness.
“Seriously…,” Bai Qianxue scoffed coldly at the sight of her sulking. “Looks like Wen Mingzhi doesn’t like you either.”
Zhou Tian ignored her.
“Then how did you even manage to stay by her side and sweet-talk her into giving you resources?” Bai Qianxue asked curiously.
Zhou Tian shot her a glare and snapped, “I did not! Bai Qianxue, don’t spout nonsense!” Her voice was laced with anger and accusation.
“Okay, okay… I was just asking. Why so loud?” Bai Qianxue muttered.
The room fell silent for a while. No one spoke, until Bai Qianxue broke the quiet again, “Geez, it’s not even a big deal… Since Wen Mingzhi’s not around, can I come over for dinner tonight? You ate lunch at my place, right? A fair exchange.”
Zhou Tian looked up at her and blinked, seriously considering it.
“I guess I can ask… it should be fine…” Zhou Tian said as she picked up the phone to call Aunt Li.
Then, glancing again at the unchanged chat interface filled with green bubbles, she sent Wen Mingzhi another message:
Teacher Bai Qianxue is coming over to our place as a guest.
But even ten minutes later, there was still no response from Wen Mingzhi.
Zhou Tian’s face drooped, her lips pressed into a straight line.
Wen-zong is just really busy, she tried to comfort herself.
And maybe it was her imagination, but Bai Qianxue seemed even happier now—especially after realizing Wen Mingzhi wasn’t responding to her.
Zhou Tian couldn’t help but cast a resentful glance her way. She really shouldn’t have listened to her and messaged Wen Mingzhi in the first place!
“…”
After getting the go-ahead, Bai Qianxue immediately dragged Zhou Tian to the villa next door.
Zhou Tian followed her gloomily, worried she might mess with something.
Bai Qianxue happily looked around with curiosity and excitement, clearly thrilled.
In contrast, Zhou Tian’s spirits sank further—Wen Mingzhi hadn’t come home, and she still hadn’t replied.
Her heart felt like it was sinking into an endless abyss.
Even when Bai Qianxue excitedly pointed out things in the villa that hinted at Wen Mingzhi’s preferences, Zhou Tian remained disinterested and sluggish.
Eventually, Bai Qianxue was dragged away by Manager Jin, who had just returned from outside.
Before leaving, she reminded Zhou Tian, “Miss Zhou, you should check your Dayan account.”
“Okay…” Zhou Tian nodded slowly, looking defeated, her heart still consumed with thoughts of Wen Mingzhi.
Just yesterday, Wen Mingzhi had been teasing her with a bright smile, but today she was completely ignoring her—nowhere to be found.
The overwhelming contrast made Zhou Tian feel apathetic about everything.
Back in her bedroom on the third floor, Zhou Tian finally checked her phone. Dozens of messages and a missed call from Sister Xia appeared, but still—no reply from Wen Mingzhi.
She tapped on Xia Ruo’s contact and called her back. The call was picked up immediately.
“Xia-jie?”
“Zhou Tian! What’s going on?! Why are you with Bai Qianxue?! What’s that photo about…?”
A flood of questions came crashing down, overwhelming her.
“Xia-jie, I just happened to run into Teacher Bai Qianxue… She has a fully-equipped music room, so I…”
“Zhou Tian! Do you think I’d believe that? That’s Bai Qianxue we’re talking about! Wasn’t she against you before? How did you even meet her? Come clean!”
“Xia-jie… I’ll explain everything in a few days. I promise I’ll tell you everything. It’s just… not the right time.”
“What’s wrong? Where are you? I went to your place, but you weren’t there.”
“I’m at Teacher Bai Qianxue’s place… We’re working on a new song together,” Zhou Tian explained, trying to gloss over the details.
“…Fine.” Xia Ruo clearly didn’t fully believe her, but since it was Zhou Tian, she let it go.
“This photo isn’t bad, right? I’m even trending now,” Zhou Tian tried to change the topic, sounding a bit cheerful.
“Well… that’s true. But there are still some haters. Don’t look at the negative comments, and don’t take them to heart,” Xia Ruo reminded her.
“It’s fine. Thanks, Xia-jie,” Zhou Tian replied with a small smile.
“What are you thanking me for? Don’t forget—you still owe me the truth! You’re not getting away with it!”
“Okay, okay, I got it, Xia-jie. I’ll tell you everything in a few days.”
After hanging up, Zhou Tian let out a sigh of relief. She didn’t want to lie to Xia-jie, but given the situation, she couldn’t tell her everything right now.
Though she hadn’t checked trending news, she roughly understood what had happened based on Xia-jie’s messages.
She then opened the group chat, “Three’s Company.”
Zhou Tian, what’s going on between you and Bai Qianxue?
Whoa, is any of this real? How did you even get in contact with Teacher Bai Qianxue?!
OMG, Zhou Tian, your post is going viral!
“…”
Seeing her friends’ confused, shocked, and concerned messages, Zhou Tian couldn’t help but smile.
She replied:
I’m not really familiar with Teacher Bai Qianxue, we’ve only met twice. The post was just PR to smooth over the incident on “Yue Sheng”. But today we really did jam together.
Wen Qingying:
I see… Some of those comments are awful. Just don’t read them. Fans can be way too extreme.
Zhou Tian:
Got it!
Despite the warnings, Zhou Tian still logged into her Dayan account and checked the posts. Sure enough, her post was trending at number fifteen.
Her follower count had surged—now over fifty thousand. She was optimistic, thinking maybe it’d hit 100k by the end of the night.
She clicked on her own post and read some of the comments:
Whose rich daughter is this? Even our Queen Bai came to keep her company?!
No talent—get out of the music industry!!! Just another privileged newbie. Shameless.
So desperate to get famous—how disgusting.
A total nobody suddenly leeching off our diva. Don’t tell me she doesn’t have someone backing her.
“…”
Comments like these flooded the post, burying the few positive remarks about her singing under an avalanche of hate.
Zhou Tian then clicked into the post Bai Qianxue had reposted—where she had tagged her as well.
She checked the comments. They were all from Bai Qianxue’s fans, telling her to stay away from Zhou Tian. Some even joked, “Blink twice if you’re being held hostage…”
After thinking for a moment, Zhou Tian commented under the post:
“Let’s jam again sometime, Teacher Bai~ 💕💕”
She also reposted it with the caption:
“Teacher Bai Qianxue is amazing! 💕”
Just as she was about to close the app, a notification popped up.
Bai Qianxue had replied:
Sure.
Just that one word clarified her stance.
The extreme fans and haters suddenly had nothing left to say. The tone online began to shift.
Praise started pouring in again—mostly for Bai Qianxue—but Zhou Tian also gained some goodwill and traffic from it.
Whether she was the focus or not, the tidal wave of exposure had arrived.
Maybe it was because she was distracted by thoughts of Wen Mingzhi, but the online hate and praise didn’t stir her much.
Why wasn’t Wen Mingzhi replying?
Why hadn’t her goddess come home?
Everything was going so well before… Zhou Tian just couldn’t understand.
She missed her goddess terribly.
Lying on her bed, Zhou Tian let out a deep sigh.
Filled with complicated emotions, heavy disappointment, and the faint, unrealistic hope buried deep in her heart—she slowly drifted off to sleep…
The night grew darker. Her room was completely still—but at some point, lights in the yard lit up. The roar of a car engine sounded briefly before disappearing.
But Zhou Tian didn’t notice.
That is, until faint rustling noises echoed in the room.
The warm yellow lights suddenly flicked on. Zhou Tian furrowed her brows, rubbed her eyes, and as she sensed something—she suddenly sat up.
“President Wen?!”
