Chapter 25: Tianshen Is My Girlfriend / Is Wen Mingzhi Angry?
“Scared, were you? Silly girl.” Wen Mingzhi leaned in and gave her another kiss on the cheek.
Zhou Tian touched the spot where Wen Mingzhi kissed her, her face burning red.
“Snap out of it, silly Tianshen.” Wen Mingzhi beamed at her.
In that moment, everything in Zhou Tian’s world lost its color—except for Wen Mingzhi, who radiated brilliantly.
Zhou Tian couldn’t help but smile back at her.
The two of them were close, clearly acting like a couple in love.
Even Assistant Chen couldn’t stop herself from glancing over. This side of President Wen was rare—she had almost never seen her so warm and approachable.
Normally cold and aloof, Wen Mingzhi now had a gentle warmth in her eyes, like she was bathed in a soft light. It made her seem more human.
If Wen Mingzhi weren’t so in control of the company, Assistant Chen would’ve thought she was someone else entirely.
“Tianshen, what do you want to eat later?” Wen Mingzhi asked gently.
“Anything’s fine.” Zhou Tian responded with a bright smile.
Trailing behind them, Xia Ruo hadn’t closed her mouth the whole time—Wen Mingzhi’s change was just too shocking.
Her dear Tian had finally made it—congratulations were in order! They finally looked like a real couple!
Because of Wen Mingzhi’s accident, Zhou Tian had canceled all her engagements for the next half month. The director at Qisheng Qianhua Entertainment immediately approved the break and even helped with cleanup. It really paid to have powerful connections. Naturally, Xia Ruo, as Zhou Tian’s personal assistant, followed along during this time too.
They stayed at Qinli Manor for a whole week. Zhou Tian was with Wen Mingzhi every day. Apart from her public appearance at the press conference, Wen Mingzhi mostly stayed at the manor, handling company affairs from there.
“Tianshen, the coffee you made is amazing,” Wen Mingzhi praised, gazing softly at her. Her almond eyes curved into a smile, brimming with affection.
“As long as you like it.” Zhou Tian sat beside her on the sofa, leaning into her.
After spending so much time together like this, Zhou Tian had become used to her role as Wen Mingzhi’s “girlfriend” and had grown attached to it.
If only things could stay like this forever. She often thought that. She just wanted to stay by Wen Mingzhi’s side.
But there’s always something—or someone—that shows up out of nowhere to shatter this peaceful happiness.
One sunny day, while they were admiring flowers in the garden, Wen Mingzhi received a message from her friends saying they were coming to visit.
Familiar faces arrived soon after: Fei Xing’en, Xu Baiqiu, Shen Yishuang, and Situ Yujia… each bearing luxury fruit baskets, fine teas, and other gifts.
Upon seeing them, Zhou Tian instinctively tried to let go of Wen Mingzhi’s hand, but Wen Mingzhi held on tight.
Zhou Tian gave up and simply lowered her head.
The group subtly examined Wen Mingzhi and the woman beside her.
Fei Xing’en smiled, “Looks like the rumors were right—Mingzhi seems perfectly fine.”
Xu Baiqiu sat down and added, “Yeah, glad you’re okay. That news was really scary.”
Shen Yishuang asked gently, “Mingzhi, how have you been resting? Everything going smoothly?”
Wen Mingzhi nodded slightly. “Pretty good.”
“That’s great. Don’t worry about work for now. Just rest for a while.” Shen Yishuang patted her arm.
Situ Yujia chimed in, “Yeah, don’t push yourself too hard.”
“Exactly. At least you’re okay,” Fei Xing’en added.
“No need to go running around doing field inspections for rare-earth companies. Send someone else—there’s no need to do it yourself,” said Situ Yujia. But when her gaze swept over the ten fingers interlocked between Wen Mingzhi and Zhou Tian, the smile faded from her face.
Still, she held back her comment to avoid upsetting Wen Mingzhi.
“Alright, everyone have a seat. Do you want coffee? Tianshen’s coffee is really good,” Wen Mingzhi offered, her lips curving into a gentle smile.
Everyone was surprised by her tone and turned to look at the pair, while Shen Yishuang raised her brows and exchanged glances with Situ Yujia.
“Tianshen?” Situ Yujia echoed the name, looking shocked. Her smile disappeared entirely.
“Hm? What’s wrong?” Wen Mingzhi sat down, pulling Zhou Tian with her, and took a sip of coffee.
The taste was perfect—just the right sweetness and amount of milk.
“Aww, now Mingzhi’s calling her ‘Tianshen’?” Fei Xing’en teased.
Xu Baiqiu joined in, “It’s only been a few days and she’s changed so much.”
“Yeah,” Shen Yishuang said coolly while sipping her coffee. “It’s good. A bit sweet for me, though. Do you have any tea?” she asked.
A servant immediately stepped in to serve tea.
“Mingzhi, you and her are…?” Situ Yujia asked, unable to hide her confusion. How did that little canary become so close to Mingzhi? They looked just like a couple.
Wen Mingzhi blinked. “Hmm? Why are you asking that?”
“What’s your relationship with her?” Shen Yishuang asked bluntly.
“Tianshen is my girlfriend. What else would she be?” Wen Mingzhi replied, glancing at Zhou Tian as she said the word “girlfriend,” her eyes filled with tenderness.
The scene was jarring. Situ Yujia froze in disbelief, her expression tightening as she lowered her head, clenching her hands.
“Girlfriend?” Fei Xing’en repeated, confused.
The others also looked puzzled—hearing that word from Wen Mingzhi was unexpected.
“Are you sure about that, Mingzhi?” Xu Baiqiu asked.
“Hmm?” Wen Mingzhi felt something was off.
Zhou Tian, beside her, lowered her head further. She could feel all their intense stares. Her fingers twisted into her clothes.
Hearing Wen Mingzhi publicly declare her as her girlfriend made her heart race with joy, especially in front of her friends—it was exciting and overwhelming.
But her heart thumped hard, a little nervous and afraid.
“When did she become your girlfriend?” Situ Yujia asked, her brows furrowed.
“Tianshen’s always been my girlfriend. What are you talking about?” Wen Mingzhi asked in surprise. “You’re all acting strange today…”
“Mingzhi… she…” Situ Yujia looked at Zhou Tian. Seeing her curl up like a frightened bird only confirmed her suspicions.
Shen Yishuang quickly changed the subject. “Mingzhi, how’s the new project going?” She was referring to the rare-earth partnership Wen Mingzhi had asked her about.
“Going fine,” Wen Mingzhi replied calmly, sipping her coffee again.
“That’s good. I’ll be going on a business trip soon—looks like it’ll be a busy stretch,” Shen Yishuang said casually.
Fei Xing’en joked, “That means we won’t see you again! You’re always busy.”
Xu Baiqiu teased, “Alright, the ‘workaholic’ title is yours now.”
“It’s not that bad. I just work overseas a lot,” Shen Yishuang explained.
Wen Mingzhi gently stroked the back of Zhou Tian’s hand and gave her a warm smile.
Zhou Tian smiled back, licking her lips slightly. But there was a hint of forced calm in her wide, round eyes.
Wen Mingzhi didn’t notice. She probably just thought Zhou Tian was a little nervous because there were too many guests.
After some idle chatting and tea, everyone decided to head out for some fresh air.
Zhou Tian and Wen Mingzhi were already on the golf cart heading to the stables. Meanwhile, a few of the others went to find Assistant Chen.
“Xiao Chen, what’s going on? Since when is Zhou Tian Mingzhi’s girlfriend?” Situ Yujia demanded.
Fei Xing’en added, “Yeah, I’m really curious too!”
“Everyone… let’s just say… you can treat Miss Zhou as President Wen’s girlfriend for now. Just get along like before. There’s been a little misunderstanding, but I’m sure President Wen will explain everything later,” Assistant Chen said awkwardly.
Not satisfied with the answer, Situ Yujia immediately called her own assistant to start investigating. She knew which hospital Wen Mingzhi had stayed at.
They got on a golf cart, and soon found out the truth.
“What? There’s such a side effect?” Fei Xing’en exclaimed.
Xu Baiqiu responded coolly, “It’s not even a big deal. Why did Assistant Chen try to cover it up?”
“I wonder when Mingzhi will recover. What if she stays like this? That little alpha she’s been keeping will have tricked her!” Situ Yujia said angrily.
Shen Yishuang remained calm. “As long as it doesn’t affect her life or work, emotions… are trivial.” She toyed with a strand of hair indifferently.
“Don’t you feel like it’s been ages since we saw Mingzhi like this? The last time was with her,” Fei Xing’en gossiped, clearly intrigued.
“Oh, I ran into her abroad a few times. She didn’t seem to be doing too well,” Shen Yishuang commented.
“So what now? What if Mingzhi really never remembers? Are we just going to let this continue?” Situ Yujia scowled, clearly scheming.
“Don’t take it too seriously. As long as she’s okay,” Fei Xing’en tried to ease her.
“…”
They arrived at the stables. Wen Mingzhi was teaching Zhou Tian how to ride a horse.
It was her favorite reddish-brown steed.
“Don’t be scared, it’s very gentle.” Wen Mingzhi supported her arm, helping her up.
“Okay… thank you.” Zhou Tian sat on the horse cautiously, frozen in fear, terrified she’d fall and eat dirt.
“Don’t be nervous, I’ve got you.” Wen Mingzhi smiled reassuringly. She patted the horse’s back—she had raised it herself, and it had a glossy coat and a gentle temperament.
Well, it was gentle toward her. She wasn’t so sure about others.
Zhou Tian held the reins tightly and glanced at the ground. It was so high. She began to shiver.
“Mingzhi, I think I want to get down… I—”
Before she could finish, Wen Mingzhi gently slapped the horse’s back.
The horse stepped forward a few times.
“Ah… ahhh—!” The sudden movement startled her.
But the horse quickly stopped. Wen Mingzhi held the reins. “Alright, alright… come down, Tianshen.”
She reached up and helped Zhou Tian down. “Didn’t know you were such a scaredy-cat,” she teased with a gentle laugh.
Once off, Zhou Tian’s legs were still wobbly. She leaned on Wen Mingzhi’s arm for support. Their eyes met—intimate and teasing.
“It really was scary! I wasn’t ready! Why did it move all of a sudden?” she pouted.
“Yes yes yes, it’s all my fault.” Wen Mingzhi chuckled, brushing the loose hair from her forehead.
“She actually let someone else ride that horse?” Situ Yujia commented, watching.
Shen Yishuang waved, “Been a while since I’ve ridden. Let’s have a match, Mingzhi.” She led out a black horse.
“Sure,” Wen Mingzhi agreed instantly.
She let go of Zhou Tian’s hand and leapt onto the horse—graceful, poised, regal.
Shen Yishuang followed suit, and the two galloped into the distance, their figures fading.
The rest stayed behind—Fei Xing’en and Xu Baiqiu wandered off to examine some ponies.
Assistant Chen was seated nearby, working on her tablet.
Situ Yujia approached Zhou Tian.
“You really are shameless. Pretending to be Mingzhi’s girlfriend!?”
“I didn’t! Don’t say that… Wait, you all know already?” Zhou Tian’s gaze dropped, heart sinking.
“You’d better back off and tell her the truth. A little canary like you trying to climb the ladder? What a joke. You really think this’ll make her stay with you?” she hissed, threateningly.
Zhou Tian raised her head and stared at her. “I never had any such intentions. I didn’t lie. Mingzhi’s memory is a little confused right now. Besides, we can’t agitate her…”
“Hah. Nice excuse. You know exactly what you’re doing! If she regains her memory and finds out, what do you think she’ll do to you?” Her cruel words stabbed at Zhou Tian’s heart like needles.
Zhou Tian’s hands balled into fists, her nails digging into her palms.
Her eyes reddened.
She just wanted to stay by Wen Mingzhi’s side. She never… She wasn’t using her.
“Nothing to say, huh? Just wait. When Mingzhi remembers, she’s going to be furious.” She bumped Zhou Tian hard as she walked past.
Zhou Tian pressed her lips tight, swallowing a lump in her throat. Her eyes shimmered with anger, fear… and determination.
She was determined—her feelings for Wen Mingzhi were real.
She looked out toward the distance, where the sound of hooves still echoed faintly.
Who was the “girlfriend” Wen Mingzhi truly remembered?
Zhou Tian stared, dazed.
Eventually, the two riders returned. Wen Mingzhi had a smile on her face, her brows lifted in joy. She pulled the reins, and the horse reared up and stopped.
“Tianshen.” She dismounted and walked straight to Zhou Tian, gazing at her warmly.
Zhou Tian smiled back and pulled out a handkerchief to wipe the sweat from her brow.
“My Tianshen is the best,” Wen Mingzhi said with a laugh, holding her hand.
“And so are you.” Zhou Tian met her almond eyes, her own eyes curved in happiness.
Wen Mingzhi held Zhou Tian’s hand and walked her to the lounge near the stables. The weather was warm and the sun was just right, but Zhou Tian’s forehead was a bit damp from standing in the sun.
Wen Mingzhi poured her a glass of chilled lemonade and passed it over. “Here, Tianshen. It’s your favorite.”
Zhou Tian took the glass, but her fingers were trembling slightly. She didn’t know if Wen Mingzhi had truly remembered her preferences, or if she had just learned them recently.
Still, her heart warmed.
Just then, Assistant Chen came over and leaned close to Wen Mingzhi’s ear. “President Wen, there’s a call from the board. It’s urgent.”
Wen Mingzhi frowned slightly but nodded. “I’ll be back soon, Tianshen. Wait for me here, alright?”
“Okay.” Zhou Tian nodded, trying to keep her tone light.
After Wen Mingzhi left, the others approached again, and this time it was Fei Xing’en who spoke up, her tone playful but pointed. “Tianshen, Mingzhi really spoils you.”
Zhou Tian smiled politely, unsure how to respond.
Xu Baiqiu chuckled, “Yeah, even we’ve never seen her be so gentle with anyone.”
Shen Yishuang sipped her tea and gave her a sidelong glance. “You seem nervous. Don’t worry. We’re just curious. After all, we’re all old friends of Mingzhi’s.”
Zhou Tian opened her mouth to speak, but before she could say anything, Situ Yujia cut in coldly, “It’s strange though, isn’t it? A few weeks ago, no one even knew who you were.”
The air turned cold.
Fei Xing’en tried to smooth things over with a laugh, “Come on, Yujia. Maybe it’s just fate.”
“Fate?” Situ Yujia sneered. “She’s clearly just someone Mingzhi picked up. You all saw her profile. The girl’s from a humble background, with nothing to her name except a pretty face.”
Zhou Tian bit her lip, fists clenched under the table.
“I never pretended to be someone I’m not,” she said quietly.
“But you also didn’t bother clarifying anything, did you?” Situ Yujia’s voice sharpened. “You let her think you’re her long-lost lover. How convenient.”
Zhou Tian’s chest tightened. Her voice trembled, “I never lied to her.”
“No?” Shen Yishuang spoke up, her voice indifferent. “Then why haven’t you told her the truth? That she lost her memory? That you’re not who she thinks you are?”
Zhou Tian remained silent.
Because she was afraid.
Afraid that once she told Wen Mingzhi the truth, everything would end.
Situ Yujia leaned in with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “You’re playing with fire. And when Mingzhi remembers everything… she won’t forgive you.”
Zhou Tian stood up suddenly, her voice strained but firm. “Even if she hates me one day… at least right now, I’m by her side. I won’t run away.”
Her voice echoed a little in the quiet space.
She didn’t wait for their reaction. She turned and walked away, heading for the garden, needing space to breathe, to calm down.
From the second-floor balcony, Wen Mingzhi had returned and seen the last part of the exchange. Her gaze darkened slightly as she looked at her so-called “friends.”
Wen Mingzhi’s eyes swept coldly over her guests. “Is this how you treat someone under my roof?”
Her voice was calm, but it carried an undeniable authority.
The group froze. Situ Yujia opened her mouth, but no sound came out. Even Fei Xing’en and Xu Baiqiu exchanged uneasy glances.
Wen Mingzhi walked past them without another word and headed toward the garden.
She found Zhou Tian sitting alone on a stone bench under a tree, her back to her, her shoulders slightly hunched.
“Tianshen.”
Zhou Tian looked up in surprise. “You’re back.”
Wen Mingzhi sat down beside her and gently reached out to hold her hand. “Sorry I left you alone.”
Zhou Tian shook her head. “I’m not a child. I can handle it.”
“But you shouldn’t have to,” Wen Mingzhi said softly. “I brought you here. I should’ve protected you.”
Zhou Tian bit her lip, wanting to speak but hesitating.
She couldn’t tell the truth. Not yet.
Wen Mingzhi seemed to notice her turmoil. She looked at Zhou Tian seriously. “Tianshen, if anything is bothering you, you can tell me. No matter what it is. I’ll believe you.”
Zhou Tian’s nose tingled. She looked down and whispered, “Even if… even if it turns out I’m not who you think I am?”
Wen Mingzhi froze slightly, her brows knitting together. “What do you mean?”
Zhou Tian smiled faintly, as if brushing it off. “Nothing. Just a hypothetical.”
Wen Mingzhi stared at her for a long moment, then pulled her into a hug. “No matter what your name is, no matter what your past holds—you’re mine now. That’s the only thing that matters.”
Zhou Tian’s heart thudded painfully in her chest.
She didn’t deserve this gentleness.
But she didn’t want to let it go either.
In the distance, the laughter from the lounge faded into the background. The sun filtered through the trees, casting dappled light on the ground. It was quiet and warm.
And for now, they sat there—close, silent, clinging to a fragile moment of peace neither wanted to break.
