Chapter 34: Locking Her by Her Side
Zhou Tian frowned as she looked at the script in her hands.
A dating reality show? She and Wen Qingying were going on a dating show together!?
After thinking for a moment, she messaged Wen Qingying.
Qingying, are we really going on a dating show? This…
Yup, no worries! I saw the script—it’s just everyone playing some fun little games, seems pretty entertaining.
But it’s a dating show! I didn’t notice that when I agreed. Are you really okay with this?
Of course! Eek—though I’m a little worried that Xi Rui might tear me apart later…
…Alright then. See you in a bit.
Since Wen Qingying didn’t seem to mind, Zhou Tian figured she’d just treat it like some fun games and nothing more.
After getting her makeup and styling done, Zhou Tian followed the production team’s instructions, dragging her suitcase and slowly entering the filming site.
From a distance, she saw a group of people gathered in the courtyard. She quickened her pace and waved to everyone.
“Hi everyone, I’m Zhou Tian.”
Everyone greeted each other and exchanged pleasantries. The participants were all from the entertainment industry—models, actors, hosts, and so on.
They’d definitely crossed paths before, but weren’t very familiar—except for Wen Qingying.
So she headed straight to Wen Qingying’s side and gave everyone a bright smile.
“Tian Tian, you look so pretty today.” Wen Qingying had picked up the habit of calling her “Tian Tian” from Liang Xirui at some point.
Today, Zhou Tian had her hair in a high ponytail—playful and energetic. Her makeup was fresh and subtle. She wore a beige floral puff-sleeve top and light blue skinny jeans that showed off her long, slender legs. She looked pure and elegant.
“You look great too,” Zhou Tian smiled back. Wen Qingying wore a light yellow dress—fresh and adorable, very much her style.
An alpha nearby teased, “Oh wow, the two of you are already showering each other with compliments and the show hasn’t even started yet.”
“Tian Tian, huh?”
“Yeah, looks like there’s no suspense in team pairing today.”
Zhou Tian smiled and replied, “Everyone looks great.”
The group continued chatting, introducing themselves, and gradually warmed up to each other. Lunch was provided by the production team, and afterward, they played some interactive games.
Then came the official pairings for task completion. Zhou Tian and Wen Qingying naturally teamed up and followed a task card to complete the first challenge.
Their task was to pick vegetables from the field in preparation for dinner.
Squatting in the field, the two picked vegetables while chatting and laughing—it was relaxing and pleasant.
“Ahhh! There’s a bug!” Zhou Tian suddenly shouted, recoiling in fear.
“Ahhh! Where!?” Wen Qingying screamed too, clutching onto Zhou Tian’s sleeve tightly.
They both panicked and fell to the ground, hugging each other tightly.
“Phew, it’s okay, it’s okay.” Zhou Tian calmed down and helped Wen Qingying up.
A large green caterpillar was wriggling on the vegetable leaves a little distance away.
“That scared me to death…” Wen Qingying patted her chest repeatedly, one hand still resting on Zhou Tian’s arm.
Zhou Tian had one arm around Wen Qingying as well.
A moment later, they realized they were holding each other a bit too closely, so they let go and looked at each other with a smile.
That smile was later featured in the preview—edited with romantic filters and cute effects.
On-screen, they looked like a pair of deeply affectionate and visually perfect lovers.
That evening, during a card game, Zhou Tian kept helping Wen Qingying, even deliberately losing so Wen Qingying could win.
The group erupted in playful teasing, joking about her favoritism and how the two definitely had something going on.
Zhou Tian and Wen Qingying smiled knowingly and didn’t argue. They’d come on this show to relax and have fun together. Winning or losing didn’t matter.
“…”
Meanwhile, far away in the Jade Garden, Wen Mingzhi had just finished some work in her study. Suddenly remembering something, she looked over at Assistant Chen.
“What’s Zhou Tian been up to lately?” Her tone was light, giving no clue to her emotions, but the smoke from her cigarette curled around her face, concealing the dark clouds gathering in her eyes.
Chen, seated stiffly on the leather couch, swallowed hard.
“President Wen… Miss Zhou Tian is currently filming a show,” she said, sounding guilty.
“What show?” Wen Mingzhi leaned back in her chair, her long phoenix eyes looking hollow and unreadable.
“…A dating show,” Chen replied bravely, expecting an eruption.
“Dating show?” Wen Mingzhi’s sharp gaze shot over, icy and cutting.
“Yes, President Wen,” Chen bowed her head.
“Dating show.” The two words rolled from her throat softly, but the pressure in the room instantly skyrocketed.
Wen Mingzhi narrowed her eyes, turbulent emotions brewing deep within.
“Tell me, have I been too nice to her?” she said through gritted teeth.
She’d given Zhou Tian the best resources. Zhou Tian had rejected her affections—fine. But now she was on a dating show?
Was she doing this on purpose to piss her off?
Chen dared not respond.
The elegant vintage study darkened, the atmosphere thick with oppressive tension.
After a long silence, Wen Mingzhi asked again, “Who did she go with?”
The hand holding her cigarette trembled slightly. Her dark red eyes glistened faintly, a flash of pain and anger flickering in their depths.
“Wen Qingying,” Chen answered truthfully.
“Heh.” Wen Mingzhi’s lips curved into a cold, mocking smile.
“…”
Zhou Tian, at the dating show, thought the whole experience would stay lighthearted and fun. She and Wen Qingying had already paired up, so there was no pressure to choose other A/O partners or worry about being left out.
But the next day, a new guest arrived and threw everything off.
The newly arrived Omega was none other than Liang Xirui.
Originally, there were four matched AO pairs. Now, Liang Xirui’s arrival disrupted the balance.
“Hello everyone, I’m Liang Xirui.” She sat right next to Zhou Tian and smiled sweetly at her. “Tian Tian, long time no see.”
Wen Qingying and Zhou Tian were both stunned. No one had mentioned Liang Xirui would be here.
Liang Xirui then slowly turned to Wen Qingying. “Qingying, long time no see.”
The others in the group exchanged greetings, but the room soon fell silent. No one was shocked by Liang Xirui’s arrival—but rather by how familiar she and Zhou Tian were with each other.
Wen Qingying and Zhou Tian were a steady pair. Now suddenly, Liang Xirui shows up? Was the production team stirring the pot?
After Liang Xirui arrived, the atmosphere between Wen Qingying and Zhou Tian shifted entirely.
The three of them—two Omegas and one Alpha—should’ve been a battlefield, but instead, everything was weirdly harmonious.
Wen Qingying wasn’t jealous at all and got along well with Liang Xirui, while Liang Xirui was openly clingy with Zhou Tian, yet Wen Qingying remained unfazed.
People found it odd, but it didn’t affect filming, so they carried on.
Zhou Tian and Wen Qingying had only signed on for three episodes. After finishing, they left.
Liang Xirui also left the same day, not long after them.
The show continued with new guests being introduced.
“…”
“Mingzhi! Zhou Tian’s on a dating show with someone else, and you’re not doing anything!?” Fei Xing’en stormed into Wen Mingzhi’s office, standing before her desk.
Xu Baiqiu followed in leisurely, sitting on the couch.
Hearing that, Wen Mingzhi slowly looked up, frowning slightly.
“Mingzhi, have you seen the preview? Zhou Tian’s practically kissing someone else!” Fei Xing’en looked like she’d lost all hope.
“And Liang Xirui is also on the show—fighting and clinging to Zhou Tian constantly! You’re seriously just sitting back!?”
Wen Mingzhi’s expression darkened further with every word. Assistant Chen was sweating bullets. She’d tried hard to avoid mentioning this to President Wen. Now Fei Xing’en had poured salt into the wound.
Wen Mingzhi stubbed out her cigarette, then took a long gulp of coffee. The bitter taste filled her mouth and sank into her heart, deepening her frown.
She turned slightly to stare out the floor-to-ceiling window.
Fei Xing’en, seeing her unresponsive, angrily sat on the sofa too.
No one noticed Wen Mingzhi’s bloodshot phoenix eyes, her emotions held back painfully, just on the edge of bursting.
She took another gulp of espresso to suppress the bitterness in her chest.
“I say, let it go. In A City, how many famous alphas would kill to be associated with Mingzhi? Why bother?” Xu Baiqiu said calmly.
“What are you talking about?! Mingzhi said herself she only wants Zhou Tian! Don’t jinx it!” Fei Xing’en snapped.
“I’m telling you, Zhou Tian used to like Mingzhi so much—there’s definitely still hope. Otherwise, she’d already be with someone else by now.”
“Mingzhi, you have to do something! At this rate, it’s game over!” Fei Xing’en urged, taking a deep breath.
“Do what?” Wen Mingzhi finally spoke, her reddened eyes looking over with a frown.
“Stop the dating show? Shut the whole program down? Or should I join the show too?” Her cold words chilled the room instantly.
The office fell silent under the crushing pressure.
“…Come on, Mingzhi, don’t go that far…” Fei Xing’en muttered, looking uneasy.
“Not necessarily a bad idea,” Xu Baiqiu said with a smirk, nodding.
“You can’t be serious!” Fei Xing’en gaped at her.
“Then what do you suggest?” Xu Baiqiu raised a brow.
“…” Fei Xing’en thought for a while. “Why don’t we set up a meeting? Let Mingzhi talk to Zhou Tian face-to-face and clear things up.”
Xu Baiqiu shrugged.
Wen Mingzhi gave a bitter smile.
Clear things up?
Hadn’t she already made things clear enough?
Another confrontation would just push Zhou Tian further away.
Still…
“So? What’s the plan?” Fei Xing’en turned to Xu Baiqiu.
“Just set up a dinner. Don’t tell Zhou Tian Mingzhi will be there,” Xu Baiqiu said.
“Sure, dinner it is. Forget the other drama,” Wen Mingzhi nodded after some thought.
For now, she just wanted a chance to see her again.
“…”
That night, Wen Mingzhi lay in bed, browsing dating show clips of Zhou Tian.
There she was with Wen Qingying, laughing and supporting each other in the fields. Their teamwork in card games. Their intimate interactions in various scenes, oblivious to everyone around them…
Wen Mingzhi’s fingers clenched white around the tablet. She grabbed a bottle of wine and downed it in one gulp—then poured another, and another.
She watched one episode after another, her eyes growing redder.
Liang Xirui appeared in the previews too—buzzing around Zhou Tian like an annoying fly, calling her “Tian Tian” with sugary affection.
And Zhou Tian responded. Enthusiastically.
They looked perfect together. Wen Qingying’s presence practically faded into the background.
Wen Mingzhi scoffed.
Every frame was a stab to the chest.
She wanted nothing more than to drag Zhou Tian back and lock her by her side—so she’d never smile at anyone else again.
She drank and drank until she passed out.
“…”
At dawn, Auntie Li came to tidy up and saw Wen Mingzhi’s flushed face.
She immediately called Assistant Chen, who then rushed to get Dr. Guan.
“How is she?” Assistant Chen asked anxiously.
Wen Mingzhi was unconscious, cheeks burning red.
“She was fine just two weeks ago,” Dr. Guan frowned.
“Is it serious?”
“She’ll be fine. Let’s get her on an IV.” He pulled out supplies. “But President Wen needs rest. No more smoking or drinking.”
“Got it,” Chen nodded.
“Has there been no alpha around her lately?” Dr. Guan asked, frowning at the heavy scent of violet pheromones in the air.
It was clear she was in heat.
Chen nodded quietly.
“Alright then… I’ll tell her the rest when she’s awake.”
“…”
Wen Mingzhi stayed at Jade Garden for several days, resting quietly.
Meanwhile, Fei Xing’en and Xu Baiqiu were busy plotting how to get Zhou Tian to a meeting, so they didn’t visit.
But an unexpected guest arrived—Lu Ningyue.
“President Wen,” she greeted sweetly.
Wen Mingzhi didn’t even look up, sipping her tea coldly, graceful as a celestial being.
“Xiao Chen, take her to the side hall,” she said indifferently.
Lu Ningyue was stunned, glancing at Wen Mingzhi repeatedly, unsure of her intentions.
But Chen placed a tablet in front of her—an extensive questionnaire.
All the questions were about Zhou Tian.
-
-
-
- What’s Zhou Tian’s favorite color?
-
-
-
-
-
- Her favorite song?
-
-
-
-
-
- Favorite fruit?
-
-
…Over 120 questions. Detailed and borderline absurd.
Lu Ningyue laughed bitterly. So this was why she’d been summoned?
“Only answer what you truly know,” Assistant Chen warned. “No guessing.”
“Alright,” Lu Ningyue muttered, biting her lip, eyes full of resentment.
She completed the questionnaire and walked out of the estate with her smile gone, face dark and cold—then smirked with disdain.
Jade Garden was filled with the faint scent of pheromones—subtle, but detectable.
Wen Mingzhi was clearly in heat.
There might be an opportunity…
Chen frowned after Lu Ningyue left. “President Wen, why are you still keeping her around…?”
They all knew Lu Ningyue had fueled those rumors and tried to stir drama between Zhou Tian and Wen Mingzhi.
“She’s just a clown. Ignore her.”
Trying to climb the ladder would only make her fall harder.
“Right, here’s the questionnaire,” Chen handed over the tablet.
“Hmm? Zhou Tian likes purple?” Wen Mingzhi raised a brow. She’d always worn white or pink. Who knew she liked purple?
She sipped her tea and mentally noted Zhou Tian’s preferences.
“…”
“Zhou Tian! You’re here!” Fei Xing’en called out excitedly.
It had been a while since Zhou Tian had been to Xu Baiqiu’s upscale restaurant. Since both had invited her warmly, she couldn’t say no.
She had cut off ties with Wen Mingzhi—but not with them.
So she agreed. Xia Ruo, worried, came along.
“Come, sit!” Fei Xing’en ushered them in.
Now, they just had to wait for Wen Mingzhi to arrive.
“Zhou Tian, long time no see! What’ve you been up to? Why haven’t you kept in touch?” Fei Xing’en asked, half-complaining.
“I’ve been really busy lately,” Zhou Tian smiled. After the dating show wrapped up, she planned to rest for a few days—then Fei Xing’en invited her to dinner.
“What about you two? How have you been?”
“Same as always. I occasionally hang out with Mingzhi,” Fei Xing’en said without thinking—then realized and immediately shut up, nervously glancing at Zhou Tian.
“It’s fine,” Zhou Tian said with a faint smile.
Xia Ruo, sitting quietly beside her, suddenly asked, “I thought this was just a dinner. Are we waiting for someone?”
Just then, a familiar figure entered the elegant private room—tall, graceful, and coldly elegant.
“Mingzhi’s here,” Fei Xing’en whispered, suddenly uneasy.
Zhou Tian immediately looked down. Xia Ruo frowned and stood up, ready to take her away.
But then, another familiar face walked in—shocking everyone.
“Hello everyone! Zhou Tian, you’re here too?” Lu Ningyue said sweetly.
Everyone stared in disbelief. Even Wen Mingzhi’s brows furrowed slightly.
