Chapter 4: Zhou Tian Was Almost Drunk Out Cold
The spacious office fell into silence, a heavy and authoritative tension lingering in the air.
After a moment, Fei Xing’en glanced at her friend, whose face was grim, and asked curiously, “Do you know who she is? What did she say her name was again last night?”
Wen Mingzhi shook her head. Things had gotten complicated.
“Seriously, Mingzhi, you’re the president of Qisheng Group. How could you sleep with an Alpha whose background you don’t even know?” Fei Xing’en looked stern.
Wen Mingzhi raised her eyes to glance at her. “Wasn’t it because of your antics?”
“We’re not taking the blame for this,” Fei Xing’en replied indifferently, taking a sip of coffee, looking as if she truly had nothing to do with it.
Wen Mingzhi curled her lips. “Heh. That stimulant you guys put in the wine yesterday…”
Before she could finish, Fei Xing’en quickly cut her off, waving her hands. “I’ll go help you investigate, okay?”
“Fine.” Wen Mingzhi nodded slightly, though a trace of impatience flickered in her eyes.
“Alright, don’t panic. It’s not a big deal. Just wait for good news from me.” With that, Fei Xing’en fled the office without hesitation.
Wen Mingzhi stared into her cup of black liquid, emotions churning in her eyes.
If it hadn’t been for her friends’ antics, none of this would’ve happened.
After a long while, she raised her head with a stern expression and immediately called Assistant Chen.
But the reply was: the person had already left the Cuiyu Villa.
Meanwhile, back at her home, Zhou Tian couldn’t stop hearing Auntie Li’s voice in her mind: “You can leave now.”
That message came from Wen Mingzhi.
So clean-cut, so cold, so final. Kicking her out without the slightest hesitation.
Well, whatever. It’s not like she was ever truly a guest. Just two people from completely different worlds returning to their own.
Lying on her bed, Zhou Tian kept rubbing Wen Mingzhi’s business card. Eventually, her eyes clouded with emotion. She suddenly sat up, pulled open a drawer, and carefully tucked the card into her notebook.
Let’s just call it a dream.
Her gaze fell on the beige cotton-linen sofa where her guitar lay.
Zhou Tian shook her head, trying to shake off the lingering sadness. Then she sat down, picked up her guitar.
As soon as her fingers touched the strings, a melancholic E minor chord rang out.
She hadn’t even fallen in love—and already felt heartbroken.
A faint, bitter smile curled at her lips.
She kept strumming, but no matter how she plucked the strings, the melody remained gentle and sorrowful.
It only made her feel worse.
Zhou Tian eventually stopped playing. She hugged the guitar, her head drooping, looking dejected and low.
Until a phone call broke the gloomy atmosphere in the room.
“Zhou Tian, get to the office now. Li Aoyun is calling a meeting,” her agent, Xia Ruo, said directly. In the background, the sound of traffic and people could be heard.
“A meeting now? It’s already 4 p.m.—we’re going in now?” Zhou Tian repeated uncertainly.
“Yes. Can’t help it. Li Aoyun’s always like this. Just come over quickly. I’ll reimburse your cab fare,” Xia Jie said helplessly.
“Okay.”
Zhou Tian frowned. It must be about last night. That so-called producer might’ve been working with Li Aoyun all along. Whatever. It’s not the first time.
She changed out of her freshly worn pajamas and put on a casual outfit before heading out.
“……”
As soon as Xia Ruo and Zhou Tian walked into the office, shouting erupted.
“What’s going on with you two?! You messed up another commercial event!” Director Li Aoyun glared furiously at them.
“How many times has this happened now?! So what if you drink a few extra glasses?! Don’t you two want to work?!”
“Director, it wasn’t just a few drinks…” Zhou Tian muttered quietly, head lowered.
“Yeah, yeah, you’re the noble one here, huh, Zhou Tian? The company didn’t sign you so you could freeload!”
“Director, we really tried to cooperate at the event, but…” Xia Jie tried to explain.
“No buts! If you two keep this up, you’ll both be shelved or terminated. The company can’t afford to raise two Buddha statues like you!”
“This is President Cheng’s business card. They want to collaborate. This time, you must go. No leaving early. Do it right and the resources will keep coming.” With that, Director Li Aoyun slammed a business card on the table.
Xia Jie lowered her head in silence, and Zhou Tian stared at her toes.
After throwing down the card, Li Aoyun stormed out and slammed the door behind her.
Left in the office, Zhou Tian and Xia Ruo both sighed.
“What do we do now, Xia Jie?” Zhou Tian asked helplessly, her face scrunched up.
“No choice. Same old drill. Just go along with it,” Xia Ruo said, her brow never relaxing.
Zhou Tian had regretted it many times. Why did she sign with this kind of entertainment company? She should’ve done more research, been more cautious.
But she was alone, fresh out of the music academy. Naively, she listened to senior schoolmates and let herself be tricked into signing with this company. All the benefits and perks they promised never came true. They even said she’d get an assistant—never happened.
The only silver lining was that her agent was Xia Ruo—Xia Jie genuinely loved and respected music, always protecting her and standing against the company’s usual ways.
“Damn it. If this keeps up, I’m quitting. Zhou Tian, when the time comes, leave with me,” Xia Jie said angrily.
“Xia Jie… what about the sky-high breach-of-contract fees?” Zhou Tian asked glumly.
“…” Xia Jie slammed the table hard. “So what? One day we’ll earn it all back. I believe you’ll make it big!”
“My friend’s artist just got a little popular recently and made this much in a year.” Xia Jie confidently held out her hand, gesturing a large number.
“Xia Jie…” Zhou Tian nodded, touched.
“……”
It seemed the universe wouldn’t even give Zhou Tian a moment to grieve her heartbreak. That very evening, she and Xia Jie had to attend a business dinner.
“Zhou Tian, do you want to touch up your look? Maybe light makeup?” Xia Jie scanned her up and down—she looked way too plain.
“No need, Xia Jie. I’m a singer. I eat with my voice, not my face.” Zhou Tian thought for a moment, then shook her head firmly.
“Fine. You’re right. Knowing Li Aoyun, the person she introduced is probably trash again,” Xia Jie said, clearly with no hopes either.
Soon, they arrived at the designated restaurant.
The private room was elegant and simple, but their dining companions couldn’t have been more out of place.
Several people had already arrived—men greasy and lecherous in all kinds of ways. The only Omega woman, clearly wealthy and older, sat with a protruding belly and a lascivious gleam in her eyes as she stared at Zhou Tian.
Just seeing them, Zhou Tian and Xia Ruo knew—they were the dish on the table tonight.
“Hello everyone, I’m Xia Ruo, this is Zhou Tian. Please take care of us,” Xia Jie quickly stood up and bowed politely.
“Hi everyone, I’m Zhou Tian.” She followed, greeting softly.
“Let me introduce—this is our President Cheng,” a round-faced male Omega eagerly said.
Zhou Tian followed the voice but soon dropped her gaze. The looks from the people in the room were unbearable.
Brazen. Unfiltered. Lustful, like they were about to devour her.
Strangely, she thought of Wen Mingzhi.
That goddess-like woman was nothing like this—cool, calm, gentle, dignified… absolutely perfect.
Bitterness crept silently into her chest.
Zhou Tian had barely eaten when the toasts began—nonstop, even though Xia Jie tried her best to shield her.
How much longer would these days go on? How long until she made it big? How long until she could see Wen Mingzhi again?…
“Come on, Xiao Zhou can really hold her liquor. Another glass!” President Cheng laughed, but it was the Alpha beside him who stood to pour the wine.
Zhou Tian gripped her glass tightly and took a big gulp of bitter liquor, unable to suppress her growing resentment.
“Sorry, I need to use the restroom. Please enjoy the meal.” She forced a smile.
“Come on, let’s drink to President Cheng first.” Xia Jie quickly played along, rising and toasting with an obsequious smile.
From the main seat, President Cheng gave a subtle signal to the person beside him.
“……”
Stumbling toward the restroom, Zhou Tian could barely walk straight. She stood at the sink, popped a few hangover pills, and splashed cold water on her face, trying to sober up.
She stared at her messy reflection in the mirror. Water slid down her cheeks; her bangs clung to her forehead, drenched.
She stood in a daze for a few seconds, then slapped her cheeks firmly. She had to hold it together today.
The woman next to her gave her a few strange glances at her actions.
Just as Zhou Tian stepped out of the restroom, she ran into someone familiar from their private room—the chubby-faced Alpha.
“Miss Zhou, what a coincidence. Let’s go back together,” he said with a grin, reaching to put a hand on her shoulder.
She quickly dodged.
“Oh, Miss Zhou, don’t be so distant.” He retracted his hand awkwardly.
Zhou Tian had no choice but to return with him.
Meanwhile, Xu Baiqiu, the woman who had watched Zhou Tian at the sink earlier, leaned against the restaurant lobby window and called Fei Xing’en.
“Didn’t you ask me to keep an eye out for that little Alpha from last night? Well, guess what? She’s at my restaurant.”
“You’re sure? No mistake?”
“Absolutely. I saw her clearly. Mingzhi’s finally showing some emotional movement—we can’t mess this up, right?” Xu Baiqiu teased.
“Don’t rat me out. If Mingzhi finds out, she’ll skin me alive.”
“Got it. Don’t worry. Not a soul will know.” Xu Baiqiu swore earnestly. Then her tone shifted. “Should we try to keep the girl here? She seems to be in a pretty rough spot.”
After a pause, the voice on the other end said, “Keep an eye on her. I’ll test Mingzhi’s attitude.”
“Alright.” Xu Baiqiu readily agreed.
Back in the room, Zhou Tian tried her best to suppress her disgust and frustration.
President Cheng even had someone tail her—clearly afraid she’d run off. Normally, she would try to sneak out of these types of dinners. But this time, with strict orders from the top, she and Xia Jie were bracing to tough it out.
Still, their behavior was downright revolting.
Back in the private room, Zhou Tian looked at the greasy faces and felt like throwing up.
But she had no choice but to keep smiling, drinking, and playing along.
“……”
As soon as Fei Xing’en got the tip-off, she tried to call Wen Mingzhi—but her phone just wouldn’t connect.
It was only 8 p.m. Knowing Wen Mingzhi, she wouldn’t go to sleep this early. So Fei Xing’en kept trying.
Meanwhile, Wen Mingzhi was fresh out of the shower. In the mirror, the fair skin of her neck bore a very visible reddish hickey.
She touched it gently—it had already turned red from her rubbing.
She was annoyed. That little Alpha had actually left a mark on her. But considering she’d been drunk and muddled, what could she really say?
For some reason, Wen Mingzhi kept thinking of her today. Not too often—but just enough to linger.
So much so that today, she came to stay at Cuiyu Villa again. Normally, she would’ve gone back to the family estate.
Maybe because the girl was obedient. Listened to her. Seemed so pure. Wen Mingzhi liked that type.
According to the investigation, Zhou Tian had no romantic history. Her background was simple and ordinary.
If she stayed by her side… that wouldn’t be bad either.
That thought drifted through Wen Mingzhi’s mind.
“……”
Back at the restaurant, Xu Baiqiu had waited a long time with no follow-up.
Eventually, she couldn’t hold back and made a call.
According to the server keeping an eye on things—Zhou Tian was almost completely drunk.
