Chapter 47: I Want to Give Birth to Her.
“Looks like Mingzhi really does like Zhou Tian,” Xu Baiqiu remarked, her gaze fixed on the soft blue-purple hydrangeas blooming in clusters before her—adorable, vibrant, and very pleasing to the eye.
“If she likes her, she likes her,” Fei Xing’en replied casually. “As long as they’re happy together, that’s all that matters.” She smiled lightly.
“…Yeah.” Xu Baiqiu paused, looking up at the bright blue sky above.
No one knew how things would turn out in the end. She just hoped Mingzhi could live the kind of happy life she truly wanted.
“But Mingzhi’s ex still seems the same,” Fei Xing’en added.
“How do you know?” Xu Baiqiu raised an eyebrow, a bit surprised.
“Shen Yishuang’s abroad, isn’t she? She told me,” Fei Xing’en shrugged.
“I see. She probably won’t come back, huh.” Xu Baiqiu mused.
“Definitely not. That’s the kind of life she wants,” Fei Xing’en said, idly twirling a stalk of foxtail grass in her hand.
The two continued to stroll and chat casually. Suddenly, Xu Baiqiu caught sight of Mingzhi and Zhou Tian in the distance.
The two were still seated at the dining table, apparently still eating.
At that moment, Wen Mingzhi’s flawless, fair face bore none of her usual aloofness. Her lips curved into a bright, gentle smile, her long, fox-like eyes arching enchantingly as she gazed directly at Zhou Tian.
Zhou Tian pressed her lips together, a hint of helplessness in her expression. How had she never realized before that Wen Mingzhi could be so childish?
Like a kid—she refused to eat unless Zhou Tian told her to.
By now, the food was all cold.
“President Wen, I’m done eating,” Zhou Tian said, not wanting to bicker with her anymore. She had long since set down her utensils. The scenery outside was fresh and soothing, and her mood had gradually eased. Only the person beside her remained a bit irritating.
With that, she stood up and walked away.
“Okay, Tian Tian, wait for me,” Wen Mingzhi quickly finished a piece of tender fish and hurried after her.
Zhou Tian stood beside a wide round wooden pillar, gazing into the distance. Towering mountains loomed faintly on the horizon, veiled in soft, white mist, like a fairy’s robes drifting through the air.
The breathtaking view calmed her heart.
Wen Mingzhi stood silently beside her, also looking out. Then, she turned to look at Zhou Tian, a soft warmth spreading across her eyes.
Zhou Tian turned and met that gaze—those once-sharp eyes were now lifted in a bright smile, alluring and gentle, sparkling with a light she’d never seen before. The emotion in them… Zhou Tian didn’t quite understand.
She turned her head back again, brows lightly furrowed. So many things had changed—not just events taking unexpected turns, but something deeper, harder to name.
In this scenery, even time seemed to slow down. The atmosphere was tranquil and peaceful.
Wen Mingzhi couldn’t help but smile radiantly.
“What’s got you so happy, Mingzhi?” Fei Xing’en suddenly appeared behind them and spoke, startling both of them.
“What were you two doing?” Wen Mingzhi asked in a light voice.
Soon, everyone gathered under the eaves and gazed into the distance together.
“Nothing much, just wandering around,” Fei Xing’en replied casually.
“Mingzhi, you really aren’t going back to the office today?” Xu Baiqiu asked calmly.
“Nope,” Wen Mingzhi answered simply, then waved at Assistant Chen.
Assistant Chen immediately brought over a few floor cushions along with her exclusive office tablet.
And so, the group sat quietly under the eaves, each minding their own business—Wen Mingzhi worked alongside her assistant, while Zhou Tian and the others played mobile games.
From time to time, they looked up at the horizon. The fresh scent of grass lingered in the air—calming and delightful.
They stayed for dinner before heading home.
Naturally, Zhou Tian returned with Wen Mingzhi to the Emerald Jade Garden Phase III.
“…”
In the days that followed, Zhou Tian continued living with Wen Mingzhi, caring for her and reminding her of all the things pregnant women should be mindful of.
One day, seeing Wen Mingzhi still holed up in her study past mealtime, Zhou Tian went over, knocked, then opened the door directly.
“President Wen, it’s time to eat…” Zhou Tian frowned slightly. This wasn’t the first time she had to call her to eat. With a sigh, she scolded, “Can you please keep track of time? Aren’t you hungry?”
“Nope,” Wen Mingzhi smiled faintly, shaking her head, looking innocent and a little cheeky.
Being told off didn’t bother her. In fact, she seemed to enjoy it—the concern and care from Zhou Tian made her feel seen.
It was only at moments like this that she truly felt Zhou Tian was here with her, genuinely caring for her. It almost felt like they were living together in peace and harmony.
Trailing behind, Assistant Chen silently swallowed the explanation she had prepared.
Of course President Wen knew it was mealtime. Her work was long finished—she had just been waiting for Zhou Tian to come call her. A little trick to grab attention.
She shook her head helplessly. Who knew Wen Mingzhi could be so childish?
At the dining table, nutritious and healthy dishes were neatly arranged.
Wen Mingzhi sat beside Zhou Tian and immediately started serving her food. “Tian Tian, your favorite—sweet and sour pineapple pork.”
Faced with this side of Wen Mingzhi, Zhou Tian still wasn’t used to it. She paused for a moment, then picked up the pork and took a bite.
Was it just her imagination, or did Auntie Li always make a few dishes she liked during every meal?
She glanced at Wen Mingzhi, who was wearing that same gentle smile she had worn for days now. It was such a stark contrast to the cold, indifferent Mingzhi she used to know. Maybe her work had been going smoothly lately?
Zhou Tian mused silently. After two weeks together, she was slowly getting used to this gentler, softer version of Wen Mingzhi.
She then picked up a piece of fresh, tender white fish and placed it in Wen Mingzhi’s bowl.
“Thank you, Tian Tian,” Wen Mingzhi said with a soft smile.
Assistant Chen, watching from the side, was genuinely shocked.
Look at President Wen—smiling like a fool.
Unbelievable. She never thought she’d see Wen Mingzhi like this with her own eyes.
“…” After a while, Zhou Tian served her two more dishes.
Their shared life was peaceful and sweet, filled with quiet warmth.
“…”
This continued for the next two weeks—until Wen Mingzhi returned to the hospital for a check-up and to finally give Dr. Guan her answer.
“President Wen, have you made your decision?” Dr. Guan asked directly.
Wen Mingzhi was currently in good health. The only thing was the pregnancy.
“I want to give birth to her.” As she said this, a subtle, tender smile crossed her face—one she herself didn’t even realize was there.
“Alright.” Dr. Guan nodded thoughtfully.
But she didn’t look as cheerful as usual. Wen Mingzhi noticed and frowned slightly.
“What’s wrong?” she asked.
“President Wen… as I mentioned before, the medication you took during that period could negatively affect the fetus. There’s a chance it could cause developmental issues. We won’t know for sure until three months in,” Dr. Guan explained with a worried frown.
“But don’t worry too much just yet. It’s just a possibility. Let’s get some tests done first.” Dr. Guan tried to reassure her, then arranged some standard prenatal screenings.
“…” Wen Mingzhi sat in her chair for a long time without getting up.
Assistant Chen walked over. “President Wen?”
Wen Mingzhi looked up at her, her sharp phoenix eyes now clouded with heavy, unreadable emotion.
She got up without a word and followed the nurse for the exams.
Even though all the results came back normal, the frown on her face didn’t ease.
Assistant Chen followed nervously, barely daring to breathe.
This was the first time in days she had seen Wen Mingzhi looking so grim.
“President Wen, Dr. Guan only said it was a possibility. You don’t need to worry too much. Your test results are all fine,” Assistant Chen tried to comfort her.
“Don’t tell Zhou Tian about this,” Wen Mingzhi said coldly, brows furrowed.
“…Understood, President Wen.” Assistant Chen hesitated but nodded.
Sitting in the car, Wen Mingzhi frowned deeply, lost in thought. This child’s arrival had been unexpected for everyone, but it was her first child. She and Zhou Tian had agreed to raise it together.
A beautiful, happy life was just ahead. But now, someone was telling her it might all be an illusion. And that terrified her.
Everything had just started to go right. Zhou Tian was finally beginning to open up to her…
Suddenly, her phone rang, pulling her from her thoughts. She looked down—it was Zhou Tian.
“President Wen, how did it go? What did the doctor say?” Zhou Tian asked with concern.
“…Everything’s fine, Tian Tian.” Wen Mingzhi replied calmly, though her brows were tightly knit and her lips pressed into a thin line, her whole face somber and cold.
“That’s good. See you at home later.” Zhou Tian hung up after that.
She was filming a highly-anticipated music variety show. Unfortunately, the shoot had clashed with the appointment.
Earlier, Wen Mingzhi had wanted her to come along. It was just a variety show, after all—what could be more important than attending a prenatal check-up with her?
But now, she was glad Zhou Tian hadn’t come. Still…
How long could she hide this?
Wen Mingzhi tightened her grip on her phone.
“…”
Meanwhile, Zhou Tian was still recording the show Nature’s Voice. During a break, she had called to check in with Wen Mingzhi.
After hearing her reply, she finally relaxed. She had read tons of posts online—many early pregnancies come with complications, sometimes even miscarriages… Naturally, she was worried. Especially considering how they had conceived due to medication, which might’ve affected the child.
But Wen Mingzhi’s words reassured her completely.
“No problems, Tian Tian. Just focus and don’t be nervous later,” Xia Ruo reminded her.
“Got it, Sister Xia.” Zhou Tian gave her a bright smile.
“…”
As the sound of water came from the bathroom, the bedroom was filled with soft light. Wen Mingzhi sat quietly on the edge of the bed, her gaze blank as she stared at the soft glow from the floor lamp in the corner.
She couldn’t stop herself from thinking—if the child really had problems, what would happen?
Would she still have the courage to give birth to her?
Would Zhou Tian… still choose to stay?
She gently rubbed her belly, her voice so low it was almost inaudible.
“Baby, be strong, okay…”
Before she could finish her thoughts, the bathroom door opened with a soft click. Zhou Tian walked out, wiping her wet hair with a towel, dressed in fresh, light-colored pajamas.
Wen Mingzhi quickly reined in her expression and looked up with a smile.
“You done showering?”
Zhou Tian nodded and casually tossed the towel aside. “Yeah, it feels so refreshing.”
Wen Mingzhi patted the seat next to her. “Come sit for a bit.”
Zhou Tian walked over and sat down. “Hmm?”
Wen Mingzhi reached out and gently took her hand, fingers interlacing. “You were amazing today. I saw your performance online. The comments were all praising you.”
Zhou Tian gave a light chuckle. “Don’t flatter me. That was just the first step. The road ahead is still long.”
Wen Mingzhi looked at her, eyes filled with soft admiration.
“No matter what happens, I’ll always support you.”
Zhou Tian turned to meet her gaze. There was a moment of stillness, and her heart inexplicably skipped a beat.
“Why are you suddenly saying all this?” she asked softly.
Wen Mingzhi leaned closer, pressing her forehead lightly against hers. “Because I want you to know… you’re not alone.”
Zhou Tian blinked and shifted her face away slightly, cheeks a faint pink. “So cheesy…”
Wen Mingzhi gave a low laugh. “Then let me be cheesy just for you.”
The room quieted again, warm and cozy. Outside the window, cicadas chirped gently, and the shadows of trees swayed in the light breeze. It was a moment that felt too peaceful to be real.
As Wen Mingzhi lay down beside her, she wrapped an arm around Zhou Tian’s waist, gently pulling her into her embrace.
Zhou Tian murmured, “Goodnight.”
Wen Mingzhi buried her face into her hair, her voice almost a whisper.
“Goodnight, Tian Tian.”
But even as she said those words, her heart was not at ease.
—
The next morning.
The sun filtered through the gauzy curtains, casting a faint golden hue over the entire room.
Zhou Tian was the first to wake. She turned her head slightly and saw Wen Mingzhi still asleep, her breathing soft and even.
There was a rare vulnerability in her usually sharp and composed features. Zhou Tian didn’t want to wake her, so she quietly got out of bed and went downstairs.
After some time, Wen Mingzhi slowly woke up.
She reached out instinctively, but the space beside her was already empty. Her eyes opened, and for a moment, she just lay there, staring at the ceiling.
“Another day,” she muttered.
She sat up and got dressed before heading down to find Zhou Tian already sitting at the dining table, browsing her tablet with one hand while drinking soy milk.
“You’re up?” Zhou Tian looked up.
Wen Mingzhi smiled and walked over to sit beside her. “Yeah, didn’t even notice when you left bed.”
“You slept soundly.” Zhou Tian handed her a glass of warm milk.
Wen Mingzhi took it and asked, “Anything on the schedule today?”
“I’m going to the studio later to work on the arrangement for the new song,” Zhou Tian replied.
Wen Mingzhi thought for a moment. “Then I’ll go with you.”
Zhou Tian blinked. “You? Going to the studio?”
“Why not?” Wen Mingzhi’s lips curved. “Don’t you want to show me your music up close?”
Zhou Tian hesitated for a second but then smiled. “Fine, you can come. But you’re not allowed to complain about being bored.”
“I won’t.” Wen Mingzhi chuckled.
But as she smiled, her heart remained heavy. She still hadn’t figured out how to tell Zhou Tian about the possible complications with the pregnancy.
For now, all she could do was pretend nothing was wrong. Until she could confirm it with certainty… until she had the courage to face it head-on.
Because once she told her… everything might change.
