Chapter 6: Mingzhi, Don’t Tell Me You Still Haven’t Moved On?
Wen Mingzhi stepped into the group, clad in a simple, elegant suit. Her expression was cold and composed, her long, dark hair falling smoothly over her shoulders, the ends still slightly damp—clearly, she had rushed over.
“President Wen… why are you here?” The arrogant grin on Cheng Jibo’s face instantly vanished without a trace.
“Mingzhi, I thought you weren’t coming,” Fei Xing’en said, slightly surprised by her appearance.
“Well, do you believe us now?” Xu Baiqiu folded her arms and smiled smugly.
“I’m so sorry, President Wen. I didn’t know she was with you—it’s all just a misunderstanding…” Cheng Jibo bowed at a full ninety degrees, apologizing respectfully.
Wen Mingzhi swept her gaze over the group until her eyes landed on Zhou Tian, who was being supported by someone and clearly unconscious. Her face was flushed red, her brows furrowed, and she looked terribly unwell.
“Oh? Put her down—and leave.” Wen Mingzhi narrowed her eyes and pressed her lips into a tight line, her entire aura radiating danger and cold arrogance.
“Yes, yes. President Wen, really, it was a misunderstanding. Please be generous and forgive us,” Cheng Jibo said with a series of hasty bows, looking extremely repentant.
Wen Mingzhi’s lips curled into a faint smile, but there was no warmth in it. “Cheng Jibo, is it?”
“Don’t you understand human language? I said—get lost.” Her voice was sharp and heartlessly cold.
“Of course, of course.” Cheng Jibo exhaled deeply, bowed again, and quickly left with his people.
“Our Mingzhi always gets the job done,” Xu Baiqiu sighed with a helpless smile.
“As always!” Fei Xing’en laughed and gave her a friendly nudge.
“Well, since you’re here now, I’m off the hook.” Xu Baiqiu waved her hand dismissively.
“You’re the only Alpha here—help her through to the end,” Wen Mingzhi said coldly, her tone leaving no room for discussion.
She glanced once more at Zhou Tian. “Take her to the hospital.”
“What!? Mingzhi, you’re not taking her home?” Fei Xing’en was stunned. She couldn’t understand it—Mingzhi came all this way, and now she wasn’t even taking the little alpha with her?
“Fine, but I’m charging you a delivery fee,” Xu Baiqiu replied, then added, “Come on. When have you ever seen Mingzhi take someone home?”
“But seriously… when have you ever seen Mingzhi go out of her way for an alpha—and without any benefit involved?” Fei Xing’en countered.
Xu Baiqiu nodded slightly, agreeing that her point did make some sense.
“Alright, I’m leaving. Baiqiu, thanks for your help. No need to mention my name,” Wen Mingzhi said lightly, gave a small wave, and turned to leave.
Fei Xing’en followed close behind, stepping into the elevator with her.
She stared hard at Wen Mingzhi’s face, searching for any emotion. When she saw none, she leaned in and whispered, “Mingzhi, what are you really thinking? Tell me, I swear I won’t tell anyone!” Her voice was full of mischief, and the gossip flames in her eyes burned bright and wild.
“Hm?” Wen Mingzhi let out a faint smile. “You think I’d trust you?”
Ding—the elevator doors opened, and Wen Mingzhi strode out.
Fei Xing’en clung to her like a slippery eel, sliding effortlessly into the back seat of the car.
“Mingzhi, don’t tell me… you’re still waiting for her?” Fei Xing’en asked, eyes spinning with speculation.
“Who?” Wen Mingzhi looked at her, confused.
“….” Fei Xing’en pursed her lips, hesitating for a few seconds, unsure if she should say it.
“You know… her! That ex who went abroad! Mingzhi, don’t tell me you still haven’t moved on?” she asked tentatively, lowering her voice as if guilty.
But her suspicion wasn’t baseless. After all, since Wen Mingzhi broke up with her, she hadn’t dated anyone else. No new alphas, not even casual companions—only elegant female escorts at public events.
Zhou Tian was the first alpha Mingzhi had gotten close to in years.
“Oh, her? No, of course not…” Wen Mingzhi shook her head calmly. Her face remained unreadable, with no trace of emotion.
“Why bring her up? That’s all ancient history,” she said, brushing a strand of damp hair from her shoulder.
“Alright, alright… What about Zhou Tian then? What do you think of her?” Fei Xing’en widened her eyes, eagerly waiting for her answer.
“You guess?” Wen Mingzhi smiled faintly, the corners of her eyes teasing.
“Ugh, come on! Just tell me!” Fei Xing’en whined, shaking her arm in protest.
She really couldn’t figure out what Wen Mingzhi was thinking.
“Not much.” Wen Mingzhi turned to look out the window.
“Ughhh! Mingzhi, can you just give me a straight answer!?” Fei Xing’en clutched her head, nearly losing her mind.
“…Mingzhi, just keep her around, will you? You’ve been single for five or six years now. Baiqiu’s almost getting married. I’ve already had several girlfriends. You don’t even have a proper date.” Fei Xing’en sighed, exasperated.
“……”
After a long silence, Wen Mingzhi finally muttered two words: “Too troublesome.”
Fei Xing’en took several deep breaths, reminding herself not to get angry.
The next morning, Zhou Tian woke up to a sea of white.
“Tian Tian, you’re awake!?” Xia Ruo rushed to her bedside.
“…Xia-jie?” Zhou Tian frowned as she looked around at the unfamiliar surroundings.
“I’m here, I’m here. Thank goodness you’re okay. You scared me,” Xia Ruo said. She had already been up, checking with the nurses several times because Zhou Tian had shown no sign of waking.
“This is a hospital? What happened last night?” Zhou Tian rubbed her forehead. She felt dizzy and nauseous. Her memories of last night were spotty—it all went black near the end.
“It was the restaurant owner who saved us. That damned Cheng guy even tried to drug us!” Xia Ruo fumed.
“What?” Zhou Tian’s face twisted in shock. “They dared to drug us? Have they no morals or respect for the law!?”
“Exactly! Who would’ve thought!? Thank goodness the restaurant owner helped us. She stopped them from taking us and even brought us to the hospital. She’s a true hero,” Xia Ruo said gratefully.
Just then, the so-called “hero”—Xu Baiqiu—stood at the doorway.
“No need to thank me. If you want to thank someone, thank Wen Mingzhi. She paid your medical fees,” she said coolly.
The two turned to look at Xu Baiqiu, who was leaning casually against the doorframe. Xia Ruo was stunned, and Zhou Tian was frozen.
Wen Mingzhi? Goddess big-sister… saved her?
A wave of complicated emotions surged in Zhou Tian’s heart. But more than anything—warmth, joy, gratitude, and happiness spread through her. And with that, a growing, pulsing affection.
Her heart pounded like a drumbeat, loud and fast, echoing her deepening feelings for Wen Mingzhi.
“This is my card,” Xu Baiqiu said, handing a business card to Xia Ruo.
Zhou Tian looked up just in time to see the scene.
“Excuse me… you are…?” she licked her lips nervously. “What’s your relationship with Wen Mingzhi?” she asked with her small, pale face and bloodless lips.
“Friends,” Xu Baiqiu answered lightly. “You forgot? We met a couple nights ago.”
“Huh?” Zhou Tian searched her memory, then smiled as recognition dawned. “Yes, yes, thank you.”
“Could you help me thank President Wen?” she asked softly, smiling sweetly.
Xu Baiqiu paused, then chuckled. “Tell her yourself. I’m done here. Bye.”
With that, she left.
The room fell silent. Xia Ruo stared at Zhou Tian in disbelief, while Zhou Tian was lost in her own thoughts.
“Tian Tian, you know her? You know President Wen Mingzhi!?” Xia Ruo shouted, utterly shocked.
“….” After a while, Zhou Tian nodded. “Yes, I do. But…”
“What!? You know them? Since when?!” Xia Ruo fired off questions one after another.
“Wait, Xia-jie, I mean, I met her… just once… no, twice now,” Zhou Tian said thoughtfully, licking her lips.
She lowered her head, long lashes hiding the strong emotions in her eyes.
“Really? Tell me everything—how did you meet!?” Xia Ruo jumped to the foot of the bed, staring at Zhou Tian.
“Xia-jie… I want water… And aren’t you hungry?” Zhou Tian gave her a pitiful look.
Xia Ruo quickly poured her a warm glass of water and sat back down. “Okay, now talk.”
Zhou Tian blinked. “Hmm… well, it’s like this…”
Zhou Tian left out everything that happened later that night. She only recounted how they first met.
“I see…” Xia Ruo nodded, her eyes sparkling with hope. “Tian Tian, this is a great opportunity! We finally have some real connections!”
“Huh?” Zhou Tian blinked in confusion.
“Turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We weren’t taken away by Cheng and his goons, and instead got linked to Boss Xu and President Wen.” Xia Ruo grinned widely.
Zhou Tian gave a faint “Mm…” She guessed that wasn’t entirely wrong.
“Boss Xu even said we could contact her if we need anything.”
“Xia-jie… I don’t think she said that exactly. Get a grip!” Zhou Tian burst her bubble with one line.
“Finally, our luck is turning around!” Xia Ruo was full of fighting spirit, like a red carpet of success was laid out before them.
“Xia-jie, there’s no way we can really get close to someone like President Wen…” Zhou Tian sighed helplessly.
“Don’t be so pessimistic. We’ve got her business card—we can reach out. And anyway, we still owe her our thanks.”
“Alright.” Zhou Tian thought for a moment and nodded.
Meanwhile, outside the hospital, Xu Baiqiu sent Wen Mingzhi a message:
[It’s done. She’s awake.]
Wen Mingzhi saw the message and simply replied: Okay.
Then she leaned back in her chair, her long lashes half-lowered, her phoenix eyes unfocused. A faint trace of emotion flickered across her gaze.
Her long, elegant fingers tapped rhythmically on the armrest. Then, as if she had made a decision, she stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window.
“Xiao Chen, check again on…”
