Synopsis:
A love-starved, self-isolated “sacrifice” x A once-aloof Immortal Venerable now driven mad by love x A capricious Ghost King
Original title: “Slaying the Heavens”
From childhood, Ying Buran was seen as an omen of misfortune.
On the day of her birth, both her mothers died mysteriously. At ten years old, a sudden plague claimed the lives of her adoptive mothers.
After that, wherever she went, disaster seemed to follow, until one person appeared.
For the first time, she heard someone say that none of this was her fault. This person pulled her from the abyss and gave her the stable life she had always dreamed of.
Inevitably, she fell in love with this Immortal Venerable.
Ying Buran would forever remember that day.
On that day, she had mustered the courage to confess her feelings to Zhao Qingxun, fully prepared for rejection.
After all, one of them was a revered sect prodigy, while the other was a cursed cripple with no cultivation ability—a world apart.
Yet Zhao Qingxun had accepted her.
Those were the happiest days of her life.
But it had all been a lie.
When the colossal sword symbolizing divine punishment fell, it struck her without mercy. The magic array beneath her relentlessly drained her life force, offering it as a sacrifice to the heavens.
Zhao Qingxun said it was her destiny.
She said she had taken Ying Buran away only to offer her as a celestial sacrifice.
Bl00d blurred Ying Buran’s vision. With her last breath, she asked the woman she had once loved most, “And the past? Was that all a lie too?”
Zhao Qingxun’s long silence answered her, wordlessly confirming the truth.
Ying Buran understood then: the so-called love had merely been a means to keep her in place.
But she hadn’t fully died. A being calling himself the Ghost King had rescued her.
“Do you seek revenge? Against those who caused all your suffering?” the Ghost King asked, cradling her fragmented soul.
“Forget that woman. Follow me instead. I am not like her. I will never betray you.”
Ying Buran heard her own voice, dripping with boundless resentment, utter a single word:
“Yes.”
She had heard that the Immortal Venerable regretted his actions and was searching everywhere for the soul of his former lover.
The once aloof and otherworldly Immortal Venerable now followed her, pleading humbly, but Ying Buran remained unmoved.
She knew he was wrong, but what did it matter? The person she once was had already died. All that remained was a solitary soul, half-human, half-ghost.
She had never imagined he would descend into such madness.
The familiar darkness descended again, and when it receded, Ying Buran found herself back in her familiar room. This time, however, her hands and feet were bound with chains.
“I didn’t understand anything before, but your arrival changed everything. I was wrong in the past, and I apologize. Just don’t leave me, and I’ll give you anything you want…”
The Immortal Venerable cupped her face, his eyes burning with crimson madness. At the same moment, another voice echoed in her ear.
“You two seem to be… having quite the fun?”
Ying Buran: ……
She wasn’t playing; she was merely extracting information.
Using and discarding was her current principle.
