- Chapter 34 - Do You Like That Position?
“I’m a little tired. I’d like to head back first.” Jian Muyu quietly said to Pei Yichen.
Everywhere here carried traces of Xi Peijue.
It made her feel suffocated, as if she couldn’t breathe smoothly.
“Alright, I’ll take you home.” Pei Yichen hadn’t noticed what had just happened inside the banquet hall.
So he didn’t think much of it.
He understood Jian Muyu’s temperament well. She disliked such occasions, and lasting this long was already her limit.
“Okay.” Jian Muyu gave a short reply.
She stepped out of the banquet hall ahead of him to wait.
But before Pei Yichen’s car arrived, Xi Peijue’s did.
The window rolled down, revealing Xi Peijue’s face.
“Get in.” He shot her a look.
“No need. My husband will be here soon.” Jian Muyu’s tone was sharp, still stung by the gossip she’d overheard at the banquet.
Husband?
Xi Peijue already knew there was nothing between her and Pei Yichen beyond ordinary companionship.
But hearing her call him “husband” again and again still infuriated him.
She had never even called him that back then!
He unbuckled his seatbelt, got out, walked straight to her side, and—without a word—hoisted her up onto his shoulder.
“Xi Peijue! Put me down right now!” Jian Muyu squirmed and shouted.
There were people everywhere—did she not need her dignity anymore?!
And why was it this position again?!
But Xi Peijue ignored her completely, showing no reaction to her protests.
All Jian Muyu could do was cover her face with her hands.
This was just… too humiliating!
Oblivious to her frustration, Xi Peijue opened the car door and dumped her into the passenger seat.
“Xi Peijue, do you even know there’s a thing called a princess carry?”
“Am I a sack of rice to be slung over your shoulder every day? Do I not need any self-respect?!” Jian Muyu’s face flushed red with anger.
“Princess carry? Is that the position you like?” Xi Peijue mused aloud.
“I…” Jian Muyu almost blurted something, then realized the topic had gone completely astray. She cut herself off.
“That’s not the point! The issue is you’re infringing on my personal freedom right now. I could sue you for this!” she snapped through gritted teeth.
“Sue me? Weren’t you just saying you’d have children with me? Now all I did was carry you into the car, and you want to sue me. So tell me—are we still having that child or not?” Xi Peijue lowered his gaze at her.
Jian Muyu: “……”
This guy…
With a mouth like that, he should’ve become a lawyer himself!
Seeing her utterly speechless, Xi Peijue’s mood finally lightened a little.
He bent down, fastened her seatbelt, and then circled to the driver’s seat.
It wasn’t until the car was moving that Jian Muyu regained her bearings.
“Where are you taking me?”
“Isn’t it a little late to be asking that now?”
Jian Muyu: “……”
“To make a baby,” Xi Peijue replied casually, glancing at her out of the corner of his eye.
Her whole body went rigid at his words.
Her hands gripped the seatbelt tightly.
“Not today!” she blurted.
“Why not?”
“Because… my period came.” Jian Muyu grabbed the excuse at random.
She wasn’t ready yet.
She was afraid she wouldn’t be able to hold out at the critical moment.
“Didn’t you say your period wouldn’t come for another half a month?” Xi Peijue frowned.
“How do you know when my period comes?” Jian Muyu looked at him, startled.
“What do you think?” His expression darkened at her clueless question.
“Did you forget who made you brown sugar water when you had cramps, who massaged your stomach when you were in pain?!”
“……”
Hearing that, Jian Muyu’s face dimmed.
In truth, before he had brought her back to the Xi family home, there had been a time when they were happy together.
During those days, Xi Peijue had genuinely treated her well.
So well that she felt she had stumbled upon a rare treasure.
But sadly, those beautiful times had been far too brief.
The moment they returned to the Xi household, everything had changed.
She couldn’t help glancing sideways at him now.
His features were sharp and deeply cut.
Even his jawline seemed perfectly sculpted by God’s hand.
Six years had left little trace on his face.
He looked just as stunning as when they first met.
But what of it?
Good looks weren’t hers to claim.
She quickly turned her gaze away.
“If you want to look, go ahead. I won’t charge you,” Xi Peijue’s thin lips curved faintly.
Jian Muyu immediately whipped her head toward him.
Her lips parted as if to retort, but in the end, not a word came out.
All she could do was fume silently and turn away again.
Six years apart, and his skin had gotten this thick?
And more importantly—wasn’t he focused on driving just now?
How had he known she was staring at him?!
Jian Muyu clenched her teeth, looked ahead, and suddenly said:
“Stop at the next intersection. I’m getting out.”
“What’s this? Not making a baby anymore?” Xi Peijue teased deliberately.
“Not anymore! I’m not in the mood!!!” Jian Muyu snapped, grinding her teeth.
And if she wasn’t mistaken, the corner of Xi Peijue’s mouth had curved into the faintest of smiles.
But it vanished so quickly she almost thought she’d imagined it.
No way. Xi Peijue would never smile at her.
Still, thankfully, this time he didn’t ignore her request. He really did stop the car at the intersection.
“Thanks.” The moment it stopped, Jian Muyu unbuckled her seatbelt and hopped out.
As if afraid he might drag her back in to “make a baby.”
She had planned to leave right away.
But then she realized something, rummaging through her bag.
She had no cash on her.
Her brows knitted, and she bent down to the car window.
“Give me your payment code.”
“What?” Xi Peijue was baffled.
“Or just add me on WeChat.” She figured a man like him probably never used QR codes.
“You don’t have my WeChat?” he asked coldly.
“Deleted it,” Jian Muyu replied lightly.
Xi Peijue: “……”
Deleted it?
Ha.
He almost laughed in anger.
His jaw tightened, and he glared at her.
“What do you take my WeChat for? Something you can delete and add at will?!”
“Then never mind.” Jian Muyu didn’t press.
Muttering to herself, she scrolled through her contacts instead.
All the way to the bottom, she finally found a familiar name.
Opening the chat, she sent a red packet.
With a note: Cab fare for Xi Peijue.
“There.” When she finished, Jian Muyu even smiled faintly.
She held up her phone to show him.
“We’re even now.”
Then she turned and walked away.
“You—!” Xi Peijue had no idea what kind of maneuver she had just pulled.
Just as he was about to call her back, his phone suddenly rang.
