- Chapter 41 - How Did I Never Notice This Side of You?
And apparently, this chubby kid’s family was quite well-off, so there’s no way he’d fall for this kind of trick.
If she had known beforehand that Little Zhan’s so-called solution was this,
there was no way she would have brought him here!
“Xiao Zhan, let’s go ba—” Jian Tiantian was about to drag Xi Xiaoyan away.
After all, they really couldn’t keep embarrassing themselves here!
But before Jian Tiantian could finish her words, an excited voice cut her off.
“Really? You’re sure all this money is really mine?”
“Of course it’s real. Money I give away never comes back!” Xi Xiaoyan declared domineeringly.
“You said it yourself, no going back on your word!”
The chubby kid swiftly stuffed the stack of cash into his pocket.
When his pocket couldn’t hold anymore, he bundled up his shirt with his pants
and shoved the last two stacks straight into his chest.
That already round belly instantly bulged out to twice its size.
“Don’t worry. As long as you follow me from now on, you’ll never lack money!”
Xi Xiaoyan patted his shoulder like a big boss.
“Bro, from now on, you’re my bl00d brother!” the chubby kid said with surprising tact.
“And what about her?” Xi Xiaoyan glanced at the dumbfounded Jian Tiantian beside him.
“Sis, she’s my bl00d sister from now on!”
“If anyone dares to bully our sister, I definitely won’t let them off!”
The chubby kid raised his chubby hand in a solemn oath.
“Not bad, not bad. You’ve got good eyesight.” Xi Xiaoyan nodded in satisfaction.
Meanwhile, Jian Tiantian was still completely stunned.
She honestly couldn’t wrap her head around how things had escalated to this point.
On the way back, Jian Tiantian kept frowning in thought,
occasionally stealing glances at Xi Xiaoyan walking beside her.
“What is it? Do I have something on my face?”
Xi Xiaoyan was starting to feel uneasy under her gaze.
“Xiao Zhan, how come I never noticed this side of you before?”
Jian Tiantian said thoughtfully.
Xi Xiaoyan’s heart immediately tensed in alarm.
“Ahem… Well, maybe it’s just that I never had the chance to show it before.”
His eyes darted away guiltily.
“But where did you even get that money from?” Jian Tiantian pressed with a frown.
Uh-oh…
“Uh… Just from saving bit by bit, usually.” Xi Xiaoyan mumbled.
“You actually hid away that much money without telling me?!” Jian Tiantian planted her fists on her hips.
“Well, now… you do know. And besides, I already used it to help solve your problem.” Xi Xiaoyan countered.
“That’s true!” Jian Tiantian wasn’t much of a thinker by nature.
Though she still felt something about the situation was a little off,
since her worries had been resolved, she didn’t push further.
“We’ve been out for a while. Let’s hurry back before Mommy finds out—otherwise we’re done for.”
Xi Xiaoyan quickly invoked Jian Muyu’s name to change the subject.
“Right, right! We have to go back quick!”
At the mention of Jian Muyu, Jian Tiantian immediately forgot her suspicions.
Grabbing Xi Xiaoyan, she rushed back toward the hospital.
Luckily, their timing was just right.
They’d barely returned and changed clothes when Jian Muyu arrived.
“Mommy.”
“Mommy.”
Both children spoke in unison, looking utterly well-behaved.
“So, did you behave yourselves today?” Jian Muyu ruffled Xi Xiaoyan’s hair before crouching down to ask Jian Tiantian.
“Mommy, I was super good today. If you don’t believe me, ask Xiao Zhan!” Jian Tiantian piped up.
“Yes, very good!” Xi Xiaoyan instantly echoed.
“That’s good.” Jian Muyu’s smile deepened.
Although the chubby kid had promised not to tell the teacher about what happened,
Jian Tiantian still felt guilty inside.
So, she obediently took her homework and began working quietly.
Xi Xiaoyan climbed into bed with his comic book.
And Jian Muyu opened her laptop to work.
The picture of the three together looked warm, peaceful, and harmonious.
Soon, Qi Yuqing’s case went to court.
After settling Xi Xiaoyan and Jian Tiantian, Jian Muyu went straight to the courthouse.
During the defense, Jian Muyu practically crushed the opposing lawyer to the point of doubting his very life.
By the end, he hardly dared utter another word, leaving the stage completely to her.
As expected, the judge’s ruling was exactly what Jian Muyu had anticipated.
The properties and cars the husband had bought for his mistress over the years,
along with the money transfers, were all reclaimed as marital property.
And since the husband was at fault,
the judge leaned in favor of Qi Yuqing during the division of assets.
In the end, Qi Yuqing received far more than she had ever imagined.
Leaving the courthouse, Qi Yuqing’s eyes were red as she bowed deeply to Jian Muyu.
“What are you doing?” Jian Muyu quickly helped her up.
“I know he came to you. I even thought you’d reject me, just like all the lawyers before.”
“Honestly, I came over before dawn and waited here, terrified you wouldn’t show up.”
“But you did. And you even helped me win.”
“Really… thank you!” Qi Yuqing’s voice trembled with emotion.
“There’s no need to thank me like this. Winning your case is my job.” Jian Muyu steadied her.
“Maybe to you it’s just work, but to me, your appearance gave me a new life.”
“This very morning, I was thinking if you didn’t show up,
the only path left for me would be to die.”
“But now… I have hope again. I have money, I have a house.
Next, I can fight for custody of my child.”
“Lawyer Jian, you’re my savior!” Qi Yuqing said with complete sincerity.
Looking at her now, Jian Muyu couldn’t help but smile.
“If you need a lawyer to fight for custody, you can come find me again.”
“I will! Once I find a job and have the means to fight him, I’ll come to you!”
Qi Yuqing’s eyes were shining with hope—
a complete contrast to the despair of their first meeting.
“I’ll be waiting.” Jian Muyu replied softly.
“Qi Yuqing, you b1tch!”
Suddenly, a tall figure lunged toward them.
In his hand was a dagger, and his bloodshot eyes made it clear—
he was ready to fight to the death.
“Move, now!” Jian Muyu shoved Qi Yuqing aside.
But it was too late for herself—
she could only raise her arm to block the first strike.
Bl00d instantly spilled from the gash across her arm.
The man, completely deranged, didn’t even care who was in front of him.
He raised the knife again and drove it down.
