But this time, he didn’t get his way.
Jian Muyu kicked him hard on the wrist.
The dagger immediately fell to the ground.
Then, Jian Muyu grabbed his arm, bent her waist, and flipped him cleanly over her shoulder.
She pressed her knee against his back, forcing his hands behind him.
The man instantly lost all ability to fight back.
On Qi Yuqing’s side, she immediately called the police.
The police arrived quickly.
They arrested the man on charges of intentional assault.
But even as he was being restrained and taken away, he kept cursing loudly.
“Qi Yuqing, you ungrateful b1tch!”
“You don’t even think about who’s been raising you all these years!”
“Even if I raised a dog, it would know to guard the house, but I never thought I’d end up raising a traitorous slut like you!”
“I’m telling you, all that money was earned by me. There’s no way I’ll ever give it to you!”
“Just you wait, I’ll never let you off!”
“…”
The man was already being dragged far away, but his voice still carried down the corridor.
Qi Yuqing didn’t care at all. She hurried to Jian Muyu’s side instead, anxiously asking about her injury.
“Lawyer Jian, are you okay?”
“I’m fine, just a small cut.” Jian Muyu glanced down at her own arm.
Her sleeve was already soaked through with bl00d.
Yet her face didn’t reveal much pain.
“How can you call it a small cut when you’re bleeding this much? I’m taking you to the hospital.” Qi Yuqing insisted firmly.
Jian Muyu really couldn’t refuse, so in the end, she had no choice but to let Qi Yuqing take her.
Meanwhile—
Duan Qianhao had just finished visiting his hospitalized grandfather and was stepping out of the ward building when he immediately saw Jian Muyu being supported by Qi Yuqing.
His dark eyes narrowed slightly, and then he followed after them.
In the middle of a board meeting, Xi Peijue’s phone suddenly rang.
He glanced at the caller ID.
Duan Qianhao.
Xi Peijue answered, though his tone was reluctant.
“Hello.” His voice was cold, completely devoid of warmth.
“Even though you blocked me on WeChat for no reason, I’m a generous man—I won’t hold a grudge.” Duan Qianhao’s lazy voice came from the other end.
“Get to the point!” Xi Peijue clearly had no patience left.
“I just saw Jian Muyu at the hospital. She looks hurt.” Duan Qianhao’s gaze lingered in the direction she had gone.
“What did you say?” Xi Peijue’s voice immediately rose.
“I don’t know the details. You’d better come see for yourself.” With that, Duan Qianhao hung up.
Then he sent over his location.
When Xi Peijue saw the pin, he practically leapt to his feet and stormed out of the conference room.
The executives inside all stared at one another.
What just happened?
Why did the CEO suddenly leave?
And from his expression, it looked like something serious had happened.
Could it be a company problem?
But no—that didn’t make sense. The company’s profits had doubled last quarter.
Then what else could it be?
“The meeting is adjourned!” Yu Xiu, who also had no idea what was going on, gave a quick order to dismiss the room before hurrying after Xi Peijue.
…
At that moment, Jian Muyu was having her wound dressed.
A nurse was disinfecting the cut.
But halfway through, an elderly doctor in a white coat suddenly walked in.
He looked to be advanced in age, his hair nearly all white.
“D-Director? What brings you here?” The young nurse immediately stiffened at the sight of him, stammering nervously.
“No need to be nervous. I’m just making rounds. What’s the situation here?” The hospital director’s voice was kindly, his expression warm.
“The patient’s arm was cut by a knife. The wound isn’t deep and didn’t damage any nerves. I’m disinfecting it now before dressing.”
The young nurse sounded like a student reciting an answer in class, word for word.
“Very good. Take a break—I’ll handle the bandaging.” The director pulled a chair closer and sat in front of Jian Muyu.
“…Huh?” The nurse’s eyes went wide.
The director’s position was so lofty that even for major surgeries he was hard to summon. And now he wanted to personally bandage such a minor wound?
Did she make a mistake in her work just now?
She suddenly felt like her job was in jeopardy.
What she didn’t know was that the director had come only because of a phone call.
Otherwise, with his schedule, how could he possibly have free time to “make rounds”?
But since that boy had rarely ever asked him for help, as an elder he naturally had to give him face.
The director skillfully disinfected and dressed Jian Muyu’s wound.
“The cut isn’t deep. Still, don’t let it get wet for the next few days. Come back tomorrow to change the bandage.” He reminded her kindly.
“Alright.” Jian Muyu nodded, rolling her sleeve back down.
Just as she was about to leave, she noticed the director still staring at her.
“Is there something else?” she asked, puzzled.
“Nothing much. Just a word of advice—take better care of yourself. When you get hurt, the people who care about you also suffer with worry.” The director’s tone was calm and thoughtful.
Back then, Xi Peijue and Jian Muyu had never held a wedding ceremony.
After the marriage, Jian Muyu seldom accompanied Xi Peijue in public.
So even though Director Meng was an old family acquaintance of the Xis, he didn’t actually know about their relationship.
He simply assumed this young lady must be dear to Xi Peijue’s heart.
Jian Muyu frowned slightly. She felt as though his words carried another meaning.
But they didn’t even know each other.
“I understand. Thank you, Director.” Jian Muyu bowed politely despite her confusion.
“You’re welcome. Hopefully next time we meet, it’ll be outside the hospital.” The director smiled so warmly that his wrinkles crinkled into folds.
Hm?
Jian Muyu’s puzzlement deepened.
“Alright then, take care on your way back. I should get back to work.” Perhaps realizing he’d revealed too much, the director quickly reined in his expression.
“…Okay.” Jian Muyu responded.
But after leaving the treatment room, she couldn’t stop thinking about his words.
Did he know her?
The way he’d looked at her had seemed… unusual.
And that line—
“Hopefully next time we meet outside the hospital.”
That was even stranger.
Lost in thought, Jian Muyu didn’t notice the person coming from the other direction and accidentally bumped into them.
“Sorry—” She quickly apologized.
But when she lifted her head, she was met with a face that instantly soured her mood.
