After the Divorce, My Ex-Wife Suddenly Became an Alpha - Chapter 11
Chapter 11: Doing Play
The dinner banquet gradually came to an end, and people dispersed in small groups, heading toward the pre-assigned campsites. The tent assigned to Gu Jinxi and her group was located on a gentle slope, not far from where the moonlight stirred the tides, casting shimmering silver waves across the surface—an incredibly romantic sight.
Though it was called a tent, its interior was more like a small suite. Antibacterial and heat-insulating mats blocked out the sand, rainproof cloth separated the rest area from the sleeping quarters, and there was even a semi-automatic skylight for stargazing. It was clear the logistics team had put in a lot of thought.
But what made Gu Jinxi feel troubled was that the bed in the sleeping quarters was far too small.
Back at home, even though she shared a room with Chi Yuejing, they at least had a 2.5m x 2.5m luxury bed, with enough space between them for one person to lie in the middle. Now that they were in a tent, the bed had shrunk by about a third. Looking at the two down pillows placed closely together, her unease grew.
The faint scent of white iris lingered in the air as Chi Yuejing’s voice sounded behind her. “Why are you standing there dazed? Not going in?”
Startled, Gu Jinxi quickly turned around, nearly knocking over the small tea table beside her. Before she could steady herself, Chi Yuejing had already reached out to support her waist.
It was just a brief moment of contact, yet Gu Jinxi could clearly feel the scorching heat through her waist again.
Her heartbeat started racing uncontrollably.
“Are you feeling unwell anywhere?” she asked, quickly stepping aside. She noticed Chi Yuejing’s cheeks were slightly flushed. There had been alcohol at the dinner table, and since Chi Yuejing was sitting with the other Alphas, she likely couldn’t decline too much. Considering she was still in her susceptibility period, Gu Jinxi’s tone carried a trace of worry.
Chi Yuejing didn’t answer, just shook her head slightly. She leaned over and removed one of the down pillows from the bed. “The bed’s too small. If I squeeze in, you won’t sleep well.” After a slight pause, she added, “I’ll sleep on this mat.”
“You don’t have to make space for me,” Gu Jinxi protested. “You’re still in a special condition and just drank alcohol. You should take the bed.”
Chi Yuejing narrowed her eyes slightly. “It’s fine, I know my limits. But if you keep insisting… I might just think you’re inviting me to share the bed.”
The sound of waves rolled in from afar, stirring a ripple in her chest.
Lying on the soft mattress, Gu Jinxi tried to shut her eyes. She heard the sound of Chi Yuejing’s footsteps walking farther away, then the faint friction sound of the damp-proof mat. Separated only by a flimsy curtain that didn’t serve much purpose, the scent of white iris still lingered in the air.
There was already a suppressant at work—how was this scent still so strong?
She carefully turned over, trying to relax, only to hear Chi Yuejing say, “Jinxi, goodnight.”
Those two words stirred the emotions she had just managed to suppress. Gu Jinxi opened her mouth and replied, “Mm, goodnight.”
With that final voice before sleep, she curled herself up out of habit and let herself drift into the darkness. The night wind quieted, the air stilled, and only the sound of two soft, gentle breaths remained.
She didn’t know how much time had passed when she felt someone nudging her. Half-asleep, she reached out to block it, only for her hand to be held by another.
The sensation was far too real. Groggily opening her eyes, she met a pair of eyes that were usually clear and bright but now shimmered with moisture. Long lashes fluttered delicately, giving her a dreamy, adorable look—still dazed from sleep.
The next second, when she realized who it was, those eyes flew wide open in disbelief.
Chi Yuejing was a little amused by her vivid reaction. She patiently knelt by the mattress, still keeping one hand on Gu Jinxi’s back, and lowered her voice. “Shhh—someone’s outside.”
Speaking with caution, she leaned her head toward the pillow—only a few centimeters away. Gu Jinxi’s heartbeat skipped a beat as she stared into those peach blossom eyes so close, and those beautifully shaped lips that parted slightly.
A few seconds later, she understood what Chi Yuejing meant.
Someone was outside—not some random sleepless colleague, but someone intentionally surveilling their tent.
The entire beach had already been cleared by military patrols. No outsiders could’ve snuck in. The only ones who’d approach their tent in the dead of night… had to be someone from that particular agency concerned about her.
“The Interrogation Unit’s tents are right near ours,” she remembered what Xia Wanwan had said earlier and quietly shared her guess with Chi Yuejing.
The tent fell so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. Neither of them spoke. Chi Yuejing’s scent gently diffused around her. Gu Jinxi tensed again, the hand being held starting to heat up, the warmth from their interlocked fingers spreading upwards.
The scent of white iris grew stronger.
That suppressant from earlier was probably wearing off.
She needed to inject a new dose quickly. Just as she moved, the arm around her waist tightened, pulling her forward. Caught off guard, her face pressed against Chi Yuejing’s shoulder. The overpowering information pheromones enveloped her.
“They won’t leave without getting what they want. Should we… quickly put on a little show to satisfy them?”
Chi Yuejing’s low voice rang beside her ear. It was hoarse, clearly strained. The steps outside inched closer with every second.
Whoever it was, coming this late, clearly wanted to overhear something intimate.
Gu Jinxi’s face burned red, embarrassment and panic rising. But now wasn’t the time to hesitate. After a moment’s pause, she cautiously let out a soft, whimper-like sound.
“Mm… Hey, c-can you go gentler…”
Her soft voice carried a faint tremble, drifting into the night air. Outside, the eavesdropper’s footsteps suddenly froze. Even the hand gripping her waist stiffened.
Chi Yuejing’s eyes darkened.
She had once secretly fantasized about Gu Jinxi looking like this, but never imagined it would be so breathtaking.
If an Omega said something like that, it would sound seductive. But Gu Jinxi was an Alpha—her strong sense of shame made her look like a blooming flower, her face flushed with dazzling color, her doe-like eyes brimming with hesitation. Her lips, bitten from nervousness, were moist and delicate—utterly tempting.
But all Chi Yuejing could do was take a deep breath, force down the madness rising inside, and whisper with a half-genuine confession:
“I really want to kiss you.”
The hoarseness in her voice made Gu Jinxi’s heart tremble.
Even knowing it was all an act, Chi Yuejing’s burning body pressed so close, her arm wound tightly around her—it really felt like she’d be devoured any second.
If she didn’t inject the suppressant now, both their mental states would collapse.
Gu Jinxi turned her face slightly away, frustrated that the person outside was still there—lingering as if enjoying the “show.”
This was too much.
Anger surged inside her. She glanced at Chi Yuejing, who was still clenching her teeth to endure, and pulled one arm from her grasp.
Following her lead, she reached for the top of the tent.
If she remembered right, it should be… there!
Her fingers found a small zipper. Silently, she opened a gap. Chi Yuejing, realizing her plan, struggled to sit upright despite her burning fever. She reached toward the head of the bed and handed something to her wife.
Gu Jinxi grabbed the object and, aiming for the skylight slit, threw it hard outside—
“AH!”
A startled cry rang out, followed by the sound of something landing and a chaotic scramble. The person outside had clearly been scared witless, and after realizing they had been discovered, ran off like a frightened rabbit.
He should be thankful he didn’t come earlier.
Gu Jinxi thought bitterly. What Chi Yuejing had handed her just now… was the thermos from the bedhead. After cooling for some time, it wasn’t as hot, but still had impact.
Crisis averted, both of them finally relaxed.
Chi Yuejing was the first to release her hold. She dragged her shaky legs to the side and sat down. Gu Jinxi pulled out a new suppressant from her bag and silently handed it over.
As the pheromones began to dissipate, Chi Yuejing’s voice—still hoarse—murmured:
“Thank you.”
Her voice had always been pleasant, but now it was like a velvet-draped string, deep and sensual. Gu Jinxi’s heart pounded as she replied in a small voice,
“You’re welcome…”
“….”
The next morning, the team-building military games officially began.
This year, nine military divisions were participating. Events were divided into group relays and individual competitions—mostly suited to beach terrain like dune racing, seaside rock climbing, and more.
As the only newcomer to the Monitoring Division, Chi Yuejing obviously couldn’t slack off. She stood in front of the information board, silently selecting a low-activity event.
Just as she made her choice, someone stepped in front of her and spoke arrogantly:
“So you’re the new recruit from the Monitoring Division? You don’t seem like much.”
It was an unfamiliar Alpha officer. His sharp brows carried a clear air of provocation. Chi Yuejing didn’t intend to waste time on a stranger—until her gaze fell on his neck… where a faint red mark could be seen.
She paused in her steps.
