After the Divorce, My Ex-Wife Suddenly Became an Alpha - Chapter 2
Chapter 2: Suffering
Being watched by those long, elegant, fox-like eyes, Gu Jinxi felt an unexplainable panic rise in her chest. She could only lower her lashes in an attempt to cover it up, but the very next second, Chi Yuejing’s hand slid directly to her waist.
“Mm…”
A sharp sense of danger surged through her. Gu Jinxi turned her head, intending to escape, but before she could move, Chi Yuejing grabbed her. The gloved hand slipped under her blouse and felt around her waist.
“Let go of me!” Gu Jinxi’s face flushed scarlet, and she protested with a guilty voice. That hand obediently retreated from her waist, but before she could breathe a sigh of relief, the fingers slid two inches lower and fished out a small card from her pants pocket.
“Almost forgot. You’ve always kept it here,” Chi Yuejing said casually, holding up the silver-white ID card and glancing at it before handing it back. “Identity confirmed.”
Gu Jinxi awkwardly caught the card. The two of them were standing far too close—Chi Yuejing’s left leg was pressed unceremoniously between her thighs. Even through the thin fabric of her slacks, she could almost feel the heat radiating off the other woman’s body.
“Now that you’ve checked my ID, can I go?” she asked in a low voice.
But Chi Yuejing didn’t move. She continued to watch Gu Jinxi’s rare embarrassment with a look of amusement, watching her pale cheeks slowly flush red. Only then did she finally speak, slowly and lazily: “I’m afraid not. Given your direct contact with a Zerg just now, I’ll need to conduct a precautionary infection screening.”
“Chi Yuejing… That’s enough!” Gu Jinxi was so furious she was shaking. “I’ll report to the Central Watch myself. I don’t need you—mmph…”
The pressure on her shoulder suddenly intensified, and Chi Yuejing pushed her back against the hood of the car. Leaning over, she looked her in the eyes. Her fox-like eyes gleamed coldly. She was clearly smiling, but the smile made Gu Jinxi’s heart race with fear.
“Did I forget to introduce myself just now?” Chi Yuejing asked.
“Senior Inspector of the Central Surveillance Bureau—Chi Yuejing. I will now conduct a temporary risk assessment.”
Before Gu Jinxi could protest again, Chi Yuejing had already pinned one of her wrists and used her other hand to lift her collar, beginning to unbutton her shirt one button at a time.
This experience felt no better than being attacked by the Zerg. In fact, Gu Jinxi felt that Chi Yuejing was even more terrifying. As the buttons came undone, her finely crafted silk blouse slid off like water.
The cold night air struck her exposed skin, raising a shiver. Gu Jinxi shut her eyes tightly in humiliation, but the torment wasn’t over. The rough texture of Chi Yuejing’s gloves skimmed inch by inch across her skin, lifting her blouse to reveal the curves of her body encased in black lace.
The air felt compressed and suffocating in the narrow space they occupied. Gu Jinxi felt like she couldn’t breathe. Trapped in a hazy net, sweat trickled down her long neck and pooled in the hollow of her collarbone.
In a daze, she could feel the coarse fabric of the gloves brushing across her skin, lingering over decorative ribbons and jewelry, brushing them aside with a kind of deliberate patience—like someone reluctant to unwrap a precious gift all at once.
Powerless to resist, Gu Jinxi clenched her fists and pressed her knuckles hard against the car’s hood, silently cursing Chi Yuejing as a lunatic for abusing her authority to humiliate her like this.
“You smell like an Omega,” a heated breath whispered in her ear, making her freeze, “Doesn’t that make you uncomfortable?”
“Chi Yuejing, in case you’ve forgotten, we’re divorced now,” Gu Jinxi ground out, turning her face away. “And I’m an Alpha. Isn’t it perfectly normal for me to interact with Omegas?”
She deliberately emphasized the word “normal,” her tone cold and biting, laced with a kind of subconscious retaliation.
That clearly hit a nerve. Chi Yuejing gave a cold snort and released her hold.
“No visible injuries. Make sure to report for a serum test at the inspection center within 24 hours,” she said, removing her gloves. Holding them between two slender fingers, she tossed them into the waste disposal with a flick, as if they were contaminated.
Gu Jinxi’s face turned even redder. “If you find it that disgusting, then why touch me in the first place!”
But Chi Yuejing had already turned and disappeared back into the shadows. The moonlight looped around her figure like a ribbon. She seemed taller than the last time they met, her trim waist and long legs making the standard-issue uniform look like a high-end designer piece—disciplined and elegant.
Though Gu Jinxi would never admit it, she had to accept one thing: having been married to this woman for over two years, she must have been blind.
Their marriage had been a textbook example of a political alliance. The Chi family was a prominent military household, famed for producing elite Alphas. Yet in this generation, Chi Yuejing had differentiated as an Omega. After much deliberation, the family chose Gu Jinxi’s household, a major energy supplier on Capital Star.
When the engagement was announced, Gu Jinxi was still pursuing her MBA on Chaoyun Star. Raised with liberal values, she never expected to face an arranged marriage and refused outright, not even attending the engagement ceremony.
Their first meeting was at a New Year’s banquet on Capital Star. Gu Jinxi had been forcibly summoned home under the threat of expulsion. The event was festive, fireworks bursting in the sky alongside the galaxy’s glittering clusters.
Chi Yuejing had clearly dressed up that night. A silver sequin fishtail gown hugged her tall figure, making her look elegant and stunning. Her aura was commanding, and everyone’s eyes were on her—except Gu Jinxi’s.
The marriage lasted about a year and a half. Gu Jinxi was busy graduating and launching her business, traveling constantly between systems. Aside from formal events, she had little contact with Chi Yuejing. Eventually, she proposed divorce.
“We didn’t marry for love,” she reasoned. “Omegas deserve freedom and equality too. After we divorce, you’ll be free to do whatever you want.”
Chi Yuejing had only looked at her with that same calm expression and said after a long pause, “Alright. Then I’ll be myself again.”
Gu Jinxi didn’t know what Chi Yuejing told her family, but the day after they signed the divorce papers, she learned that Chi had left Capital Star and enlisted in the First Fleet.
The First Fleet was known as “The Devil’s Fleet,” stationed in harsh, remote systems and frequently battling pirates and outlaws. When Gu Jinxi heard the news, she was stunned.
Then came the bigger shock: before enlisting, Chi Yuejing had undergone a gender reassessment. The report stated she was actually an Alpha.
Although interstellar marriage laws didn’t restrict any combination of genders, Gu Jinxi still felt Chi Yuejing was insane.
Absolutely insane. Clearly an Alpha, yet she had disguised herself as an Omega just to fulfill a ridiculous political arrangement. Gu Jinxi could never understand that kind of terrifying self-sacrifice.
And now, on her very first night back on Capital Star, she’d run into that lunatic again.
Back home, the tension still hadn’t faded. Gu Jinxi stripped off her soiled clothes and tossed them into the trash, then stepped barefoot into the bathroom and stood under the hot shower.
The mint-scented body wash filled the air with a cool aroma. Unlike sweet floral scents, she had always preferred cooler fragrances. She scrubbed her shoulders hard with a bath sponge.
Chi Yuejing wasn’t wrong—Gu Jinxi really did feel physically uncomfortable around that citrus scent. She was probably allergic to pheromones. What most Alphas found enticing in Omegas, she could barely stand.
But that wasn’t a problem. Gu Jinxi had always preferred financial reports over romance. Her family’s energy company was at a crucial stage of expansion, and she had no intention of missing the opportunity.
After a relaxing shower, she changed into a black camisole nightdress and twisted her long hair into a loose bun. As she moved through her bedroom, she noticed one of the windows hadn’t been shut properly. The sheer curtain flapped in the breeze. Gu Jinxi stepped forward—then abruptly froze.
The memory of cold metal pressing against her back returned in a flash. The segmented limbs of the Zerg, the sticky stench of their bl00d—it all flooded her senses again. Her heart pounded as if it would burst from her chest. She gulped down air, trying to calm herself.
Beep, beep, beep—
Her personal terminal suddenly rang out. The frightening scene faded. Gu Jinxi glanced toward the open window, then rushed to the desk and answered like grabbing a lifeline.
A video window popped up midair. The person on the other end hadn’t expected her to pick up—their pupils shrank slightly in surprise.
They were outside, the moonlight reflecting off those narrow, fox-like eyes and casting a soft silver glow. This time, the cold sharpness had given way to something gentler.
Regardless of gender or designation, it would be hard for anyone to resist eyes like that looking at them so tenderly.
Then Chi Yuejing smiled. Facing the camera, her peach blossom eyes narrowed with amusement.
“Tsk. Do you always video call people dressed like that?”
