After the Divorce, My Ex-Wife Suddenly Became an Alpha - Chapter 32
Chapter 52: Tonight’s Sleep
Night had fallen deeply.
In the dimly lit room, four-paned windows stood closed. Moonlight filtered through the carved glass, scattering softly onto the thick velvet carpet. The banquet downstairs had not yet ended; a drunken, off-key singing voice floated faintly upward — hazy and indistinct, making everything feel strangely distant and unreal.
Gu Jin Xiao was reclining against the edge of the wide, soft Roman-style bed, her bare feet lightly stepping on the intricately woven patterns of the carpet. Her large, pretty eyes gleamed with amusement, as if stirring up the entire expanse of stars in the sky.
Chi Yue Jing stood motionless beside the bed, quietly gazing at her — as though she were trying to memorize the look on her face at this very moment.
In Shenjin City, where the customs were liberal and the weather oppressively hot, both men and women wore especially revealing clothing. Gu Jin Xiao, adapting to local norms, had donned a sarong-style dress rich in local flavor. The sheer fabric hugged her figure; beneath the pale purple hem, a pair of long legs peeked through, with a delicate gold chain wrapped around her ankle, resting against fair skin.
With her slight movements, the soft shimmer of gold sparkled gently — like a sliver of moonlight flowing at her feet.
Seeing Chi Yue Jing’s gaze fixed on her, Gu Jin Xiao tucked her legs back slightly and smiled. “You planning to stand there all night?”
Chi Yue Jing didn’t move, but stayed upright and answered seriously, “Of course not. I’m just waiting for Miss Jin… to bully me.”
The line was something Gu Jin Xiao had said earlier at the banquet to brush off the Falcon Squad — yet somehow, hearing it again from Chi Yue Jing’s lips, it carried a quiet ambiguity, laced with undeniable intimacy.
Gu Jin Xiao’s ears flushed from the remark. She raised a hand to rub them, and teased, “Is that so… But I’m your master, after all. Shouldn’t you please me first?”
Truth be told, she lacked any real experience in this so-called “bullying,” but the opportunity was rare. She forced down the frantic beating of her heart and tried to project a calm, confident air.
Chi Yue Jing’s lips curved slightly. After a few seconds of silence, she took a step forward and replied, “Apologies — I suppose I’m still not skilled enough. I’ve made my master… wait too long.”
Before her words fully fell, she bent down on one knee beside the bed and gently scooped the soft, boneless woman into her arms.
The mattress, soft as clouds, sank sharply.
The sudden weightlessness made Gu Jin Xiao momentarily dizzy. But she quickly recovered and wrapped her arms around Chi Yue Jing in return. As warmth mingled between them, their breaths gradually drew close, igniting a searing, dizzying heat.
The night wind slipped through the window slats, playfully brushing their flushed skin. Behind the curtains, two figures clung tightly to one another — fair, slender arms looping around the other’s neck, fingers falling limply with exhaustion. As she moved, the golden bracelet on her wrist slid down, gently brushing Chi Yue Jing’s delicate back.
That faint touch on her back made Chi Yue Jing twitch. She instinctively reached out to grab the mischievous wrist — but before she could pin it down to the pillow, Gu Jin Xiao’s voice warned her:
“…Did I say you could use your hands?”
Her voice brushed hot against Chi Yue Jing’s ear — like a rose blooming silently in the darkness, with soft petals tickling her ear until she reflexively let go.
Gu Jin Xiao raised her head to look at her. Her lipstick had long since been kissed off, leaving only a smudge of red at the corners of her mouth. Her lips, like flower petals, were slightly swollen — showing clearly what they had just endured. Plump and glossy, they gleamed with a hint of moisture.
The sweet scent of rose grapes still lingered in the air between them. Chi Yue Jing stared, mesmerized by those lips, unable to resist brushing them with her fingers. As her fingertips sank into that softness, Gu Jin Xiao let out a muffled sound — like a kitten suddenly provoked.
Annoyed, she sprang up and rolled them over in one smooth motion. Under the pull of gravity, Chi Yue Jing had no choice but to follow, flipping onto her back — only to be met by a dazzling ceiling mural, which quickly turned into a fierce, gorgeous face.
“I told you… tonight, I’m the one doing the bullying.”
With that declaration, Gu Jin Xiao pinned Chi Yue Jing’s shoulders and kissed her again.
The scent of fresh flowers quietly filled the entire room. Light and shadows, pale as snow, spilled across the floor — one by one, stars lit up in her vision. Distant singing, flowing water, the far-off bells of a caravan… all seemed woven into a dreamlike illusion, floating gently above them.
After a long while, Gu Jin Xiao kissed her on the cheek. Her own face flushed deeply, looking more bashful than Chi Yue Jing. She clung tightly to her waist and whispered, “Are you tired?”
Chi Yue Jing gently stroked her hair, shaking her head with a pampering smile.
Gu Jin Xiao then flopped onto the pillow beside her. Her long hair was scattered like silk over the fabric, emitting a faint fragrance, bathed in soft moonlight — utterly tender.
Chi Yue Jing couldn’t take her eyes off her. She leaned over and nudged her. “Tired already?”
There was no response. She leaned in closer and saw Gu Jin Xiao still flushed, those big, bright eyes twinkling at her — clearly laughing.
That smile was just like a kitten who’d stolen candy. Chi Yue Jing stared at her for a long moment, then suddenly reached out and held her wrist.
“I just thought of something I really want to do,” she said.
Gu Jin Xiao, in a good mood, asked naturally, “What is it?”
“I want to… hang a bell on your foot.”
Chi Yue Jing lowered her gaze, imagining how the slender, delicate ankle would look with a bell jingling on it — and found the image quite fitting.
But Gu Jin Xiao immediately opposed the idea. She pushed her away lightly. “What kind of master wears a bell? That’s for pets!”
She had clearly done all the work earlier — why did this person always manage to act like she was the one in charge?
Chi Yue Jing didn’t answer. She lowered her head, kissed Gu Jin Xiao’s fingers gently, and replied with a playful grin:
“Then I’ll let you stay ‘master’ for a few more days. But once we’re back… don’t forget — you owe me a bell.”
And once more, soft breathing sounds filled the air.
That night felt endlessly long.
Even when the sun rose high in the sky the next day, the bedroom remained thick with a lazy, indulgent atmosphere. The banquet the night before had run until almost dawn, and most of the mercenary corps were still scattered about in search of dreams. The entire inn was shrouded in quiet contentment.
Gu Jin Xiao lay lazily buried in the pillows, unwilling to get up. She tugged Chi Yue Jing — who also didn’t need to do morning drills — to stay in bed with her.
“My calves are sore. Massage them for me,” she whined. “Gently.”
Chi Yue Jing, of course, wouldn’t turn down the chance to serve her. She held the smooth leg in her hand — the skin warm and soft, a faint red mark still visible on the ankle from last night. As she massaged gently, she offered:
“If you’re this uncomfortable, I’ll go to the market this afternoon for you.”
Gu Jin Xiao kicked at her leg lightly and sighed, “No way… we agreed to check the goods today. Feeding you all isn’t easy, you know? I’ve got to restock before Novy finishes the ship — otherwise this trip’s a loss.”
Frustrated by that wanted poster and knowing their route would take them through areas rife with mercenaries and pirates, she and Chi Yue Jing had agreed to travel under the alias “Miss Jin” and form their own mercenary group — both to conceal their identity and deal with potential chaos.
Unexpectedly, the “Miss Jin” persona worked too well. They’d quickly recruited over a hundred members. Now, just feeding this rowdy and ravenous bunch gave Gu Jin Xiao a headache.
She rolled over onto Chi Yue Jing’s lap, calculating cargo loads and profitability in her head.
Still in her silk white robe, her clothes had loosened from all the tossing and turning. The robe hung off her shoulders, revealing smooth skin and a soft curve beneath the sheer fabric — like a milk candy within reach, sweet and tempting.
Chi Yue Jing brushed her hair aside and was just about to lean down when a sudden engine roar echoed from below.
The noise made her pause. The sound grew louder, then stopped in the courtyard below. A cheerful voice called out:
“Captain! Miss Jin! We’re here!”
Hearing that familiar voice, Chi Yue Jing froze.
Gu Jin Xiao, waiting expectantly for her kiss, burst out laughing when she saw her expression. She quickly scrambled up and asked, stifling a giggle:
“Wasn’t that Dr. Lan? They got here fast… Didn’t you just message them a couple of days ago?”
While planning this operation, Chi Yue Jing had discreetly contacted a few trusted squadmates. With the merc group being such a mixed bag, she couldn’t manage everyone alone — so she asked off-duty members if they’d come undercover to help out.
Unexpectedly, the team had been vacationing nearby — bored out of their minds. The moment they heard they could fight pirates and play mercenaries, they rallied right away.
Downstairs, the team was still loudly shouting when a window on the second floor opened. A pretty figure leaned out, smiling and waving, “Hi—!”
Before she could say more, another figure yanked her back. A familiar, dead-serious poker face appeared at the window.
“Stand by,” she ordered, slamming the window shut with a bang.
Silence fell. A gust of wind swept through a few leaves.
“Didn’t the captain say… she and Miss Jin were in a purely professional relationship?” someone whispered.
“Well… who says sharing a room can’t be pure?” another countered.
Before they could debate the logic further, other mercenaries stirred, awakened by the noise. When they heard that these newcomers were the captain’s old squad and had come to join up, they looked at them with newfound pity.
“What’s so great about our captain?” a tan-skinned merc whispered. “She trains us like a demon. If I were you, I’d run far, far away and never come back.”
Wearing a tight vest and hotpants, Dr. Lan smiled brightly. “You’re totally right. If we weren’t broke, we definitely wouldn’t have come back.”
Casually, she scoped out the courtyard while chatting up the curious merc. “Quick question — has the captain… always shared a room with Miss Jin?”
Judging from what they’d just seen, it clearly wasn’t because of a room shortage. Looked like their captain’s trip hadn’t been in vain — she’d finally made major progress with Miss Gu!
The tan merc gave her a look like he was telling a ghost story.
“Every night? No way!”
“Captain trains us during the day — if she also had to serve Miss Jin every night, that’d be way too much!”
Serve?
Dr. Lan’s smile froze on her face.
