After the Divorce, My Ex-Wife Suddenly Became an Alpha - Chapter 33
Chapter 33: I’ll Help You
“Liar.”
The secret was exposed on the spot, leaving Gu Jin Xiao both embarrassed and flustered. A rosy blush immediately spread across her cheeks. She turned around, trying to snatch away the damning “evidence,” but Chi Yue Jing easily saw through her movement. She raised her arm higher, causing Gu Jin Xiao to lunge in vain.
“It’s not what you think,” Gu Jin Xiao missed and, blushing furiously, tried to explain. “I-I just wanted to grab something to block the air conditioning… I didn’t know I’d accidentally grab yours. I was thinking how troublesome it was…”
Because of her flustered state, her voice came out soft and tender, completely lacking any intimidation. With each failed attempt to retrieve the item, their bodies inevitably collided, making Chi Yue Jing’s heart itch with a mischievous desire to tease her further.
“Looks like someone changes faces faster than flipping pages,” she drawled deliberately with a sigh. “Wasn’t it just yesterday someone clung to me, refusing to let go, saying they liked the smell of my pheromones… And now not only do they steal my clothes, they go and stain them…”
As she spoke lazily, Chi Yue Jing lowered the arm she had raised. The once pristine white shirt clearly bore a faint smear of dusky rose, like a petal pressed into the folds of fabric, a glaring sign of what it had just gone through.
Gu Jin Xiao’s mind went blank. She fell silent.
There was no way to deny it—she was all too familiar with that lipstick shade. It was an exact match for what she was wearing on her lips.
While she stood dazed, Chi Yue Jing curved her lips into a faint smile. She casually set the shirt aside, and with her newly freed hand, she circled the slim waist before her, pulling the girl even closer into her embrace.
The overly intimate gesture immediately put Gu Jin Xiao on alert. She just started to pull away when a wave of hot breath swept over her, and the crisp, clean scent of white iris filled her nose, making her dizzy.
“Forget the shirt,” Chi Yue Jing murmured beside her ear. “Why not just use me?”
Feeling the heat so near, Gu Jin Xiao gave a soft gasp, like she’d been shocked. She instinctively tried to dodge, but Chi Yue Jing held her tightly, not letting her move.
“Your skin’s flaring up here… and here. Must be tough to endure,” the pale fingertips gently touched the small red rashes peeking from her collar, teasing out a fine, unbearable itch. “I’m right here… want some help?”
“No…”
Gu Jin Xiao, pinned and trembling like a kitten caught by the scruff, looked up uneasily, her eyes shimmering like crystal. Her wide eyes clearly betrayed her shock at the suggestion.
The hand on her waist tightened slightly. Chi Yue Jing gently reminded her, “Your allergic reaction came on fast. Soon, that shirt won’t be able to hide anything.”
…And it was all because someone stole her temporary suppressant.
But the words were too hard to say. In her frustration, Gu Jin Xiao just turned her head away, refusing to look at the gleeful expression on the other’s face.
“If you don’t say anything, I’ll take that as agreement.”
Chi Yue Jing’s smile deepened. She leaned down slightly toward the flushed face before her. At this distance, she could see the trembling lashes like tiny wings fluttering in shame. Her reflection, etched into Gu Jin Xiao’s eyes, seemed to draw closer and closer.
The white iris scent wrapped around them, soft and gentle. Gu Jin Xiao paused briefly, and then her knees gave out. The foreign pheromone slipped into her like water through cracks, soothing the itchy discomfort caused by her reaction. Driven by instinct, she leaned forward.
That single movement was like knocking over a jar of honey—thick, sweet syrup enveloped her, warming her from head to toe. After a few moments of resistance, she whimpered like a small animal, burying her face in Chi Yue Jing’s chest in surrender.
Ashamed of her behavior, she kept her face down, motionless, except for the occasional trembling of her shoulders as she breathed in that comforting pheromone.
The adorable reaction made Chi Yue Jing smile. She adjusted their position, supporting Gu Jin Xiao’s slipping frame and holding her snugly between herself and the desk.
Their heartbeats echoed between them, hot and fast. As the white iris pheromone invaded silently, their bl00d boiled. Chi Yue Jing had to summon intense self-control to resist going further—to hold back from fully claiming the delicate orange blossom pheromone curling into her embrace.
Their pheromones twined and thickened in the air, becoming ever more intoxicating.
Just then, footsteps echoed from the hallway, approaching their room. Moments later, there was a knock on the door.
To Gu Jin Xiao, wrapped in a cocoon of pheromones, the sound was like a bolt of lightning. Her body jolted. If Chi Yue Jing hadn’t caught her, she would’ve fallen to the floor.
“President Gu,” a female voice came through the door crisply, “everyone’s arrived for the meeting you scheduled. Shall we begin?”
Time seemed to freeze. Though the woman outside could not possibly see what was going on inside, Gu Jin Xiao’s face flushed even redder. She forced herself to stay calm and managed to say, “Just a minute…”
The moment the words left her mouth, she panicked. Her voice was coated in syrup, too sweet and soft to be taken seriously. She shot a glare at Chi Yue Jing and tried again, lowering her voice: “I’ll be there shortly.”
The effort drained what little strength she had left. Her face flushed scarlet again, eyes brimming with unshed tears—an image of fragile dignity that somehow only made her more breathtaking.
This was a side of Gu Jin Xiao only Chi Yue Jing got to see.
That realization stirred a ripple in Chi Yue Jing’s heart. She almost wished she could freeze time, keep this person in her arms forever, hidden from the world.
But reality didn’t work that way. As the footsteps receded, Gu Jin Xiao quickly pulled away and whispered, “I’m fine now. Thank you.”
Chi Yue Jing’s gaze softened. She gently supported her, helping her stand.
Her expression was calm, deliberately glossing over the girl’s flushed cheeks and starry, dazed eyes. She held herself with the composed air of someone merely performing their duty as a temporary suppressant—like nothing intimate had happened at all.
But even so, Gu Jin Xiao felt this needed to be addressed. After all, susceptibility wasn’t a one-time thing. For both their sakes, they had to stay within reasonable, rational bounds.
With that in mind, she pressed her lips together and said, “I have to attend the meeting now, but let’s talk afterward, okay?”
Chi Yue Jing reached out and gently smoothed a stray lock of her hair. As if expecting this, she smiled and replied, “Okay. I’ll go home and wait for you.”
The blue-domed prayer temple rang with gentle chimes.
The golden dusk spread across alleys and stone walls. The laughter of children, the ringing of bike bells, and distant street vendors’ cries wove together into a cozy, nostalgic harmony.
Gu Jin Xiao parked her car in front of the gate but didn’t get out right away. She just sat there in silence, listening to the sounds around her, motionless.
Eventually, she took a deep breath and stepped out. She had to face this, one way or another.
Warm, orange light greeted her—filtered through an enamel mosaic lantern that Chi Yue Jing had personally installed. “Warm yellow is gentler than white light,” she had said. “It won’t hurt your eyes when you come home late.”
That light now quietly illuminated the path to the house. The scent of dinner drifted out, soft and inviting, stirring something tender in her heart.
When had it started—this infiltration of her life by Chi Yue Jing?
From the moment they began working together, Chi Yue Jing had been slipping into her world bit by bit. She remembered to leave the light on, cooked according to her taste, stayed by her side and helped her solve problems. All these little things had quietly become a part of her daily life.
Gu Jin Xiao paused.
The front door opened just in time. Chi Yue Jing, as if expecting her, smiled and opened the door wide: “You’re home.”
She set a pair of slippers by the door, speaking in a cheerful tone: “Perfect timing. The baby lotus roots I ordered just arrived today. I made you fish ball soup—try it and see if it tastes right.”
Gu Jin Xiao perked up. “They actually have baby lotus roots here?”
On planet N92, water resources were scarce, making aquatic vegetables rare. But she had grown up on Capital Star, with a preference for light, fresh flavors—especially seasonal fruits and vegetables. Most people didn’t know, as she usually ate in the cafeteria with the staff.
Chi Yue Jing smiled and led her in. Gu Jin Xiao washed up and rushed to the dining room. Sure enough, a lotus-leaf-shaped porcelain bowl sat on the table. Pale lotus seeds floated in the clear green broth, plump and inviting, while goldfish-shaped fish balls bobbed playfully among them.
“I had it shipped in whole, with the pond mud still intact,” Chi Yue Jing explained. “I raised it in a big tank and flew it over via starship. That way, the original flavor stays. Not sure if it matches your memory.”
She set a bowl in front of Gu Jin Xiao. The fresh scent of lotus leaves filled the air. Gu Jin Xiao eagerly took a sip. The lotus seed burst with sweet juice in her mouth, and she exclaimed, “It’s perfect! Just like when I was little!”
Chi Yue Jing simply smiled, saying nothing more.
She didn’t tell her how many archives she dug through on the star network to find this recipe, or how she failed twice that afternoon trying to get the flavor right. As long as she could present the desired result, the struggle behind it didn’t need to be shared.
But instead of continuing her meal, Gu Jin Xiao hesitated. After a moment’s internal battle, she gently set down her spoon.
“Let’s talk first,” she said seriously.
