After the Divorce, My Ex-Wife Suddenly Became an Alpha - Chapter 47
Chapter 47: Mutual Love
In the quiet air, a faint sound of panting could be heard.
If not for the important briefcase in her hands, Gu Jin Xiao felt she would’ve already thrown a punch. Chi Yue Jing clearly noticed her restraint, and slowly tightened the arm around her waist, her burning kisses falling softly on her cheek and neck, each one bringing waves of searing heat.
“Chi Yue Jing…” Gu Jin Xiao let out a soft whimper, protesting in the thick, tangled atmosphere. “Are you going to let me finish explaining or not?”
Why was it that once this woman started kissing her, she just couldn’t stop? It wouldn’t have been so bad if it were just kissing, but she always managed to touch her in the most bewildering places. In the haze of desire, Gu Jin Xiao went weak all over, leaning into her embrace with a quiet complaint.
Chi Yue Jing pressed another kiss to her cheek, then finally, albeit reluctantly, sat up with her still in her arms. She whispered, “I do want to hear. But… I want to kiss you even more.”
That shy and tentative look she had shown earlier was simply too alluring, which was why Chi Yue Jing hadn’t been able to resist kissing her.
Gu Jin Xiao sat nestled in her embrace, her heartbeat momentarily erratic. She steadied herself and placed the briefcase on her lap, unlocking it.
With a soft click, the case slowly opened. Inside was lined with black shock-absorbent foam, and at its center were seven silver metal rods, neatly arranged.
The rods didn’t appear to be made of any known metal — smooth, without a single seam or joint. Each one was about ten centimeters long. Gu Jin Xiao picked one up and handed it to her.
“What is this?” Chi Yue Jing was sure she had never seen anything like it. It was surprisingly light in her hand, and she toyed with it curiously. “Is it… a type of mineral?”
Gu Jin Xiao smiled and took it back. After locking the case again, she answered, “It’s called Yuan Di. But when I first created it, I gave it a prettier name — Desert Flower.”
The light cast a clear glow on her face. Chi Yue Jing looked into those golden-flecked eyes, her refined nose, her soft lips, and once again realized that beyond her beauty, what truly drew people in was the confident and determined spark always shining in her gaze.
“About a year ago, I took over the energy mining operations on N92,” Gu Jin Xiao continued. “I aimed to refine traditional energy ores. After research, we succeeded in extracting Yuan Di from Wu Si ore. The energy it produces is 20 times that of the same volume of Wu Si, and it’s easier to transport and nearly pollution-free.”
“This is an entirely new technology. Right now, all interstellar ships and large-scale strategic weapons across the Federation rely on Wu Jin, a refined product of Wu Si, as fuel. That’s been the standard for over sixty years. But with Yuan Di, we’re looking at a generational leap forward.”
Chi Yue Jing’s expression shifted slightly. “How does it compare to Wu Jin in terms of cost? And can production be sustained?”
Coming from a fleet stationed in the outer star systems, she understood better than anyone how vital energy was to winning a war. Large battleships and space fortresses consumed power like mountains devouring the sea. In the years of fighting the insectoids, military spending had reached astronomical figures.
Gu Jin Xiao had clearly anticipated this question. A proud smile curved her lips. “As long as we control the key tech, it’s no more expensive to refine than Wu Jin. Once this business deal goes through, I’ll get access to more resource planets. Then, production won’t be limited to N92.”
Chi Yue Jing felt a quiet shock ripple through her. And as the initial impact settled, a wave of previously unanswered questions suddenly made sense. She gripped Gu Jin Xiao’s hand tightly and said, “No wonder the Intelligence Bureau is after you. The insectoid threat is just an excuse. Someone doesn’t want you cutting into their profits.”
It was obvious — the powerful families who’d long monopolized the military’s energy supply would be anxious at the emergence of a competitor. That’s why, the moment Gu Jin Xiao landed her first deal with Cross Star, all eyes were suddenly on her.
And if they discovered that this so-called competitor wasn’t just snatching turf — but had quietly developed a new product that could reshape the entire competitive landscape? Just the thought sent a chill down Chi Yue Jing’s spine, and she instinctively pulled Gu Jin Xiao into a tight hug.
The couch wasn’t particularly wide, and with Gu Jin Xiao sitting fully on her lap, the sudden movement startled her. She looked up with a laugh. “What’s that for?”
“You’re way too bold,” Chi Yue Jing murmured, kissing her softly on the cheek. “If they find out the truth… So that’s why you paid such a high price to request a military-grade starship transport — you did it to protect the Yuan Di, right?”
Gu Jin Xiao flinched slightly at her ticklish kisses and turned her face away. “At first, yes. I thought using General Gelin’s name would be enough to deter them. But I also had a longer-term plan.”
“The one who signed the contract with me was General Hua Tingzhi of the Military’s Logistics Division. She supports the current Chancellor and has been pushing for peace talks with the insectoids. Right now, she’s leading the Border Fortress Space Project, which needs enormous energy reserves. If this goes well, I’m aiming for an official supplier position.”
She laid everything out without hesitation, her eyes bright as she looked at Chi Yue Jing. “Maybe you’ll think I’m overly ambitious. But I never believed energy businesses should just endlessly mine and deplete resources. We should always be exploring new possibilities.”
After saying this, she felt a flicker of anxiety. She hadn’t even told Madam Gu about this plan. Ambition, to many, could seem too mercenary. But in front of Chi Yue Jing, she didn’t want to hide it.
Chi Yue Jing went silent for a few seconds.
Then she suddenly tightened her arms and, without changing position, pressed Gu Jin Xiao down onto the couch and kissed her.
Unlike her previous gentle kisses, this one was intense — like she wanted to melt her completely into her embrace, lips moving against lips, again and again, deeply.
“Mm…” Gu Jin Xiao’s hand slipped to the floor, fingers trembling slightly as they held the briefcase.
Chi Yue Jing cradled her neck and murmured, “I don’t think you’re dreaming too big. On the contrary, I think you’re more worthy of that position than anyone else.”
“So, wife… let me protect you as you reach that goal, okay?”
She was truly happy — because from the very beginning, they had shared the same goals and vision.
In the mining office, a military officer in uniform handed Gu Jin Xiao a flight clearance document and said solemnly, “These are the ID numbers for the three starships transporting the Wu Si ore. However, the scheduled departure will be delayed by one day… I assume you already understand the reason.”
Gu Jin Xiao nodded. “Thank you.”
The attack at Terminal One had caused widespread fallout. Several docks were damaged, and the Patrol Corps had sealed the entire port for emergency repairs. All incoming ships had been rerouted to Terminal Two.
That terminal was on the west side of the city. As a result, the entire transport route had to be rearranged, causing delays.
As the departure day approached, Gu Jin Xiao grew even busier. In addition to managing future mining operations, she also started purchasing local specialties. Over the past few days, she had visited the market seven or eight times — each time returning with full arms.
Naturally, Chi Yue Jing accompanied her. The two strolled through the Old Town market, which, unlike the center district’s luxury, had a lively charm. Shops were filled with handmade carpets, shawls, nearly lost enamel lanterns — a feast for the eyes.
In a centuries-old weaving shop, Gu Jin Xiao picked out the finest cashmere shawl for Madam Gu. In a jewelry store, she chose a set of pearl accessories with exotic flair for Xia Wanwan. Then, at a street corner, she paused in front of a quaint little shop.
It looked like a hidden treasure trove. The wooden window frames were weathered with age, but the walls and windows were covered in bright climbing roses — an enchanting contrast of vivid and vintage.
She pushed the door open. The inside was cluttered but charming. In the center, a tray held a full set of petite brass tools — scissors and small trowels with carved handles, inlaid with coral and turquoise, forming floral patterns. Seeing her interest, the white-robed shopkeeper eagerly explained, “These are treasures I found when I was young, on the Old Star. You won’t find such craftsmanship anymore.”
He noticed her refined appearance and impeccable bearing, clearly recognizing her as a distinguished guest. “This is the last set, and I’ve never had the heart to sell it. But if you like it, I’ll offer a good price. I’d rather see it go to someone who’ll cherish it.”
Gu Jin Xiao was indeed impressed. She turned to Chi Yue Jing and asked, “What do you think? If it’s good, I want to buy it… as a gift for Grandpa.”
The old man had returned to the Capital Star last time just to lend his estate so Chi Yue Jing could recover in peace. He’d even gifted her a valuable ring. She’d been meaning to find something in return.
Chi Yue Jing was stunned by the word “we.” Gu Jin Xiao had always been generous and considerate with friends, but this time, she was using their names — together.
Her heart sped up a little. “Yes. I think it’s perfect. Since it’s for Grandpa, let me buy it.”
She couldn’t let Gu Jin Xiao do everything while she just coasted.
Gu Jin Xiao laughed. “I only wanted your opinion because I’m not familiar with his tastes — I didn’t mean for you to pay.”
But Chi Yue Jing insisted, standing at the counter with her card. The shopkeeper chuckled, unsure whom to listen to, then came up with a plan.
“Since it’s a gift for a senior, why not let Madam show her sincerity,” he said, carefully taking out a wooden box. “And as for your sentiment… perhaps this would be fitting?”
Inside, nestled in red velvet, was a stunning platinum pearl ring.
Natural pearls had become rare in the New Star Era. This one was full and round, with a lustrous sheen like moonlight. The soft glow was captivating.
“Such a treasure deserves a beauty,” the shopkeeper said sincerely. “I’ve held onto this for a long time, and the moment I saw you, I knew its owner had finally arrived.”
Though he was clearly trying to make a sale, there was truth in his flattery. Gu Jin Xiao, standing tall and radiant even after days in the N92 sun, still had glowing fair skin and elegant hands — the pearl ring suited her perfectly.
Without hesitation, Chi Yue Jing said, “I’ll take it.”
After leaving the shop, Gu Jin Xiao was still a little stunned. Holding the exquisitely wrapped gardening set, she turned to the woman beside her and playfully chided, “You really just pulled your card out like that? I didn’t even get a chance to haggle! You’re not allowed to do that again — at least try to bargain next time!”
Chi Yue Jing listened with a smile to her soft, almost whiny complaint. She clutched the ring box tightly, her gaze lingering on Gu Jin Xiao’s pink-tinged, stunning profile. A rush of unspeakable happiness filled her heart. She suddenly stopped in her tracks and, smiling, held the ring box out.
“Alright,” she said gently. “Next time, I’ll let you haggle. But for now… wife, can I put the ring on you?”
