- Chapter 13 - Do You Really Not Remember Me?
Luo Yunye was locked in the dream’s holding cell, watching as daylight outside the window rapidly shifted to night, then back to day again. Police officers passed by like fleeting shadows—everything outside moved at an unnatural pace.
She didn’t know how much time had passed before she suddenly found herself in a university classroom. The English teacher was lecturing at the front, but she wasn’t paying attention. Her eyes were fixed on the back of a girl sitting in the front row.
The girl had narrow shoulders and a slender frame. Soft, slightly curled hair draped gently down her back, and there was a faint floral scent in the air—familiar. It was the scent that always clung to Qin Yiwan.
Luo Yunye wanted to call her name. She wanted to see whether this was the primary personality or the second one.
She endured the long, torturous wait until class ended, but just as she was about to speak, the girl stood up and walked out, bag in hand.
Blocked by the crowd, Luo Yunye could only watch as the grown-up Luo Yunyi walked up behind Qin Yiwan, shielding her from the surge of students as they exited the classroom.
She followed them from a distance, watching the two of them walk side by side. She couldn’t hear what Luo Yunyi said, but Qin Yiwan responded with a calm nod and continued walking toward the campus gate with her.
They entered a quiet, elegantly decorated Chinese restaurant. Luo Yunye found a spot with a good vantage point and sat down. Qin Yiwan in college looked just like the one in reality—only even more beautiful, taller, and more refined.
But her eyes no longer carried the smile of her childhood. When she looked at Luo Yunyi, her expression remained calm, her emotions tightly controlled. No matter what was said, her face showed no signs of joy or displeasure.
Midway through the meal, Qin Yiwan got up to go to the restroom. Luo Yunye followed her. As she came out from washing her hands, Luo Yunye timed it perfectly—walking right past and brushing shoulders with her. She let her phone fall to the ground.
Both of them crouched to pick it up at the same time. Their eyes met. In Qin Yiwan’s gaze, Luo Yunye saw her own reflection—and a calmness that suggested she didn’t recognize her at all.
“Sorry,” Qin Yiwan said as she picked up the phone. She checked the screen—it was fine—and handed it back. “You should check it too, just in case.”
Luo Yunye stared at her. “Give me a way to contact you. If there’s something wrong, I’ll need to reach you.”
Qin Yiwan hesitated, her gaze lingering on Luo Yunye. She pulled out her wallet. “How much was your phone? I’ll pay for it.”
“It’s not about the money. There’s important stuff on it. If it’s damaged, it would be a real shame.”
Qin Yiwan remained calm. “I don’t know how to fix phones. If it’s broken, I can only compensate you.”
They stood there, stuck in this awkward standoff at the restroom door. Qin Yiwan, clearly losing patience, lowered her head to check how much cash she had in her wallet.
Just then, a woman came rushing over, flustered and in a hurry. “Excuse me! Please move—sorry, I need to get through!”
She looked like she was about to have an accident and, without a second thought, shoved Qin Yiwan, who had her head down.
Qin Yiwan was wearing high heels. Caught off guard by the shove, she stumbled and fell to the side, on course to hit the hard restroom wall. For the first time, a different expression broke through her usually composed face—panic, annoyance, and a grimace of helpless dread.
But instead of hitting the wall, she landed in someone’s arms.
Luo Yunye had caught her, pulling her back just in time.
To Qin Yiwan, however, falling into an alpha’s arms felt no better than hitting a wall—equally unbearable.
If there was any difference, perhaps it was this: walls are hard, people are soft.
Almost instinctively, Qin Yiwan pushed Luo Yunye away.
Her long hair was a little mussed. After regaining her footing, she quickly smoothed it out, her face returning to its usual cold expression.
If not for the blush lingering at the tips of her ears, Luo Yunye might’ve thought she’d imagined it all.
“This should be enough to buy your phone.”
Qin Yiwan stuffed the cash into her hand, then turned to leave—eager to get out of the place where she’d just been so embarrassed.
Luo Yunye looked down at the money in her hand, then grabbed Qin Yiwan’s wrist. She turned her head slightly and asked, “Do you really not remember me?”
Qin Yiwan turned around and gave her a quick once-over. She pulled her hand away, frowning. “You must be mistaken. I don’t think we’ve ever met.”
“Never met?”
Luo Yunye’s brow furrowed. “Then who was it that sat with you on the Ferris wheel? Who went with you to buy inhibitors? You said… if you woke up, you’d be twenty-two, and then you could—”
Her voice trailed off as her brow furrowed deeper. Staring at Qin Yiwan’s emotionless face, she suddenly realized she was the only one still clinging to those brief, fleeting memories.
She hadn’t even noticed how much she cared about that version of Qin Yiwan—the fragile, tearful girl with the beautiful smile. So innocent. So alive.
“Could what?” Qin Yiwan asked flatly.
“…Heh.”
Luo Yunye suddenly felt like she’d fallen into a cloud. She was angry but couldn’t find a place to land that anger.
Maybe it was her fault.
Her mistake was not being there as Qin Yiwan grew up. Her mistake was daring to hope for something more.
To hope she’d grow up.
To hope they could fall in love.
To hope they could have a perfect wedding when she finally woke up.
“Wanwan.”
Hearing Luo Yunyi call her, Qin Yiwan ignored Luo Yunye and walked toward her.
Luo Yunyi glanced toward Luo Yunye and paused, looking a bit uneasy. “Do you know that person?”
“No.”
Qin Yiwan caught her looking again and asked, “Do you?”
“N-No, not at all.” Luo Yunyi gave a guilty laugh.
Watching the two of them walk away, Luo Yunye suddenly felt like a complete joke.
Her mission was to find out who caused Qin Yiwan’s car accident and help her wake up. And yet, she’d foolishly started to fall in love with her.
Seriously…
This was her last mission—and she’d let herself make such a careless mistake.
Once she realized that, Luo Yunye opened her eyes and woke up from the dream.
The sky outside was beginning to lighten. The room was still dim. After such a long night, she was mentally exhausted—but sleep was now impossible.
She raised her hand to rub her eyes and noticed she was still holding Qin Yiwan’s hand. Gently, she let go, and a strange emptiness spread through her chest.
That lingering feeling of reluctance made her restless. She got up, deciding to take a shower to clear her head.
Glancing at the monitor, she saw the waves of brain activity still rising and falling like a tide. She looked back at Qin Yiwan.
Her brain was active—waking up was only a matter of time. There was no need to keep entering her dreams. Once she awoke, Luo Yunye’s mission would be complete.
She showered, changed, and headed downstairs. Butler Lin looked at her with surprise. Normally, she slept in. Today, she was up unusually early.
Butler Lin instructed the maid to bring out her favorite breakfast, then stepped forward with concern.
“Young Madam, are you heading out today? Should I prepare the car?”
Luo Yunye wanted to get out for some fresh air and shake off the flood of memories about Qin Yiwan. She nodded.
“I just want to be alone for a bit today. No need to accompany me.”
Butler Lin gave an awkward smile.
“Understood, Young Madam.”
As he turned around and saw Qin Rushuang coming downstairs, he greeted her with a polite smile.
“Good morning, President Qin.”
Qin Rushuang nodded, her gaze landing on Luo Yunye, who was quietly having breakfast.
She walked over and sat down. When Luo Yunye greeted her with a flat-toned “Mom,” it was clear her mood wasn’t great.
Qin Rushuang asked with concern, “What’s wrong? Something bothering you? You can talk to me.”
“Nothing.”
Luo Yunye gave a faint smile, not in the mood for conversation.
The maid brought over breakfast. Qin Rushuang took a few sips of congee and then said lightly,
“Although Wan’er can’t move now, her physical condition is still relatively stable. Since you’ve married into the Qin family, your top priority is to bear children for the family.”
“If you’re facing any difficulties, don’t keep it to yourself. We can work through it together.”
Luo Yunye genuinely wondered if she had gotten up too early today and was still half-dreaming—how else could she be hearing something so outrageous?
She was supposed to give the Qin family an heir?
Forget the fact that Qin Yiwan had never even seen her in person, let alone had any feelings for her. Luo Yunye herself had no such strange inclinations. How could anyone expect her to… with a person in a vegetative state?
Just thinking about it made her scalp tingle. This “mom” was truly something else.
A million alpacas trampled through her mind, but she didn’t show it on her face. Instead, she suddenly asked:
“Have you discussed this with A’Wan?”
Qin Rushuang nodded, expressionless.
“I mentioned it to her earlier. The Qin family wouldn’t resort to this if we weren’t desperate. It’s unfair to both of you, I know.”
Oh, so she did know it was unfair…
No wonder Qin Yiwan had given up the will to live after that day.
No Omega could endure being forced into intimacy by a stranger Alpha, fully aware of what was happening but powerless to resist. The physical and psychological trauma would be unbearable.
That’s why she’d rather die than be humiliated like that.
Luo Yunye recalled the dreams, where Qin Yiwan’s alternate persona repeatedly pleaded not to be touched—it must’ve been out of fear of being forcibly marked.
She shouldn’t have teased her like that. This was far more serious than she had realized.
The more she thought about it, the more irritable she became. She no longer had the appetite for breakfast. After a brief goodbye to Qin Rushuang, she grabbed her car keys and bag and left.
Butler Lin watched her storm out and turned to Qin Rushuang.
“President Qin, shall I follow her?”
“No need. Let her have some space.”
Luo Yunye was unfamiliar with this world and didn’t even know where she wanted to go. She just wanted to get far away from people—somewhere quiet to clear her mind.
Halfway along the drive, she received a call from Qian Yue.
“Hey, junior—got time to hang out?”
“Where are you hanging out, senior?”
“Hot springs at Yunding Villa. Sunrise view. You in?”
“Sure,” Luo Yunye smiled. “Send me the address—I’m on my way.”
The car sped along the mountain road. It wasn’t that Luo Yunye was particularly eager to see Gu Qian Yue or soak in the hot springs—she just wanted the adrenaline rush of high-speed focus to temporarily drown out the mess in her head.
As she neared the mountaintop, the humidity rose. Fog thickened around the winding roads. One slip could send her off a cliff, so she finally eased off the gas.
By the time she arrived at Yunding Villa, the surrounding mist gave the place an otherworldly feel—like stepping into a fairyland. It was, indeed, a good place to unwind.
Gu Qian Yue hadn’t arrived yet, so Luo Yunye checked in at the front desk with her name and received the reserved room key.
After driving for over an hour with full concentration, she was worn out. As soon as she got into the room, she tossed her bag on the bed and lay down with her eyes closed. She figured she’d nap first and wait for Gu Qian Yue to arrive.
The sound of running water drifted from the bathroom—intermittent, but she didn’t think much of it. She figured the hotel had thin walls and it was just noise from the neighboring room.
That is, until she heard the bathroom door open—followed by a woman’s startled scream, jerking her fully awake.
Luo Yunye frowned irritably and sat up, her gaze locking onto the woman in a bathrobe standing there.
“Who the hell are you? Why are you showering in my room?”
“You—you—I…”
A voice called from outside the door.
“Ningxi, are you okay in there?”
Seeing that it was Luo Yunye on the bed, Wei Ningxi let out a breath of relief. She composed herself and replied calmly,
“I’m fine. I just slipped a little.”
“Alright, just checking. I’ll go order food. I’ll call you in a bit.”
“Thanks, Wen-jie.”
After the voice outside faded, Luo Yunye got out of bed and walked over. She was just about to hand the room card over and ask if Wei Ningxi had gone to the wrong room when—
The woman turned her face away, putting on a look of reluctant coldness, as if it pained her to be harsh but she had no choice.
“Yunye, we’ve already broken up. You shouldn’t be here. This… this will only hurt me.”
Luo Yunye blinked slowly.
“???”
