- Chapter 14 - Qin Yiwan, do you want… me to help you?
Luo Yunye would gladly call today the most ridiculous, dramatic day of her life.
First, the person she still cared about had grown up and no longer recognized her. Then came the bombshell—she was expected to have a child with someone in a coma.
Trying to clear her head, she’d driven over an hour into the mountains. But as soon as she checked in, the front desk handed her the wrong room card. And of all the rooms she could’ve walked into, it just had to be her ex-girlfriend’s.
And not just any ex. The one who had dumped her.
Now, Luo Yunye stood face-to-face with Wei Ningxi, who casually adjusted her bathrobe, showing no signs of defensiveness or awkwardness. She kept saying they’d broken up a long time ago and that Luo Yunye shouldn’t have come looking for her—it would only make things worse.
But for someone so adamant about staying apart, she wasn’t exactly acting like she wanted distance.
Luo Yunye felt a headache coming on. She didn’t want to argue and didn’t want to explain. She just grabbed her bag, turned around, and opened the door to leave.
Behind her, Wei Ningxi called out, “Yunye!”
Luo Yunye had just stepped out of the room when she realized—she was still wrapped in a towel. Flustered, she rushed back in, shut the door, and quickly got dressed.
Once presentable, she stormed down to the front desk, tossed the room card onto the counter, and tried to keep her temper in check. “Can you confirm if this is the room Ms. Qian Yue booked? ”
The receptionist took the card and checked the computer. Qian Yue had booked Room 031. But the receptionist had mistakenly handed over the card for Room 021.
Panic hit her like a truck. She bowed repeatedly. “I’m so sorry—really, truly sorry.”
Fumbling, she retrieved the correct room card and handed it over to Luo Yunye. “I apologize again.”
Luo Yunye didn’t say another word. She snatched the new key and headed upstairs.
She knew her bad mood wasn’t just because of the room mix-up. It was everything else piling up—one headache after another. The front desk just happened to be the final trigger. If she’d stayed one second longer, she might’ve lost it and yelled that poor girl into quitting.
By the time Wei Ningxi came out dressed, she saw Luo Yunye heading upstairs. She quickly followed to the third floor and saw her enter Room 031. The door slammed shut with a heavy thud that made her flinch.
Was Luo Yunye this angry because of how she had acted earlier?
Wei Ningxi felt a little guilty. Back when they were together, even though Luo Yunye was mostly cool and distant, she had never once raised her voice. Even when she’d broken up with her, Luo Yunye hadn’t gotten mad.
Did she know I was here and come to find me?
Though it had been Wei Ningxi who initiated the breakup, she had never truly moved on. If not for her career, she never would’ve left Luo Yunye in the first place.
She hesitated in front of the door, unsure whether to knock. Just then, her phone rang.
It was Sister Wen.
“Ningxi, lunch is ready. Come eat.”
“Okay, Sister Wen. I… I just stepped out. Where are you? I’ll come find you.”
Wei Ningxi made a mental note of Luo Yunye’s room number, then turned and headed downstairs—just as Qian Yue passed her on her way up.
“Hey, junior!”
Qian Yue knocked on the door. Inside, Luo Yunye had taken a moment to calm herself down. When she opened the door, she managed a polite smile. “Senior.”
Qian Yue smiled warmly, then asked tentatively, “The front desk told me they gave you the wrong key and that you were really upset. They asked me to apologize again on their behalf. Are you still angry?”
Luo Yunye gave a small smile. “I had some things on my mind earlier, and my emotions got the better of me. It wasn’t really her fault.”
“Then how about we leave our things and go grab something to eat?”
“Sounds good.”
Qian Yue’s room was right next to hers. She dropped off her bag, came out, and led the way to the restaurant.
She chose a quiet table by the window. On sunny days, the view here was spectacular—you could see the distant peaks and a sea of clouds. But today was overcast, and the misty mountains were only faintly visible through the fog.
Raindrops trickled down the glass. The air was cool.
Wearing a sleeveless dress, Qian Yue shivered slightly as the cold air prickled her skin into goosebumps. She rubbed her arms and handed Luo Yunye the menu with a smile. “See anything you like? I personally recommend the spicy fish, but I’m not sure if that’s your thing.”
“I’m not picky,” Luo Yunye said, pushing the menu back toward her. “You go ahead and order.”
Noticing the goosebumps on Qian Yue’s arms, Luo Yunye called over a waiter. “Do you have any shawls or wraps?”
“One moment, I’ll get one for you.”
After placing their order, Qian Yue turned to her with concern. “Are you cold? Want to go back and grab a jacket?”
“I’m fine.”
Luo Yunye took the shawl from the waiter, walked over, and draped it gently over Qian Yue’s shoulders.
Caught off guard, Qian Yue stared at her, stunned. For a moment, time slowed down. Her heart skipped a beat, and the chill she’d been feeling quickly faded away.
“This should help,” Luo Yunye said softly before returning to her seat.
Qian Yue finally blinked out of her daze and smiled. “I didn’t expect you to be so thoughtful. I bet a lot of omegas are into an alpha like you.”
Luo Yunye nodded casually. “Yeah, quite a few.”
There wasn’t a hint of false modesty. Amused, Qian Yue’s smile deepened. “So… how many have you dated?”
“One,” Luo Yunye answered without hesitation. Her eyes drifted toward the far side of the restaurant, where Wei Ningxi was quietly watching them. “We were together for a month. She dumped me.”
“What?” Qian Yue’s voice rose in disbelief. “She broke up with you?”
Luo Yunye chuckled, lowering her voice. “Senior, is that something to be proud of?”
“Oh—oh no, sorry!” Qian Yue laughed and covered her face. “I’m just surprised. I mean, you got dumped after only a month? That’s wild.”
“It’s fine. Everyone has the right to choose what they want. I respected her choice.”
Seeing that she didn’t seem too bothered about her ex, Qian Yue couldn’t resist asking, “Have you thought about dating again?”
Luo Yunye leaned back, relaxed. “We’ll see. If I meet the right person, sure. It’s not like I plan to stay single forever.”
Qian Yue laughed with her. “Alright, alright, we’ll stop there. You said earlier you were in a bad mood—did something happen?”
“Nothing major. Just some things I’d rather not think about right now. I just want to relax.”
As Luo Yunye turned to gaze out the window, Qian Yue wisely let the topic drop.
After lunch, the two went up to the rooftop terrace for some sightseeing. There weren’t many visitors at the mountain resort today, so the rooftop was perfect for photos.
Qian Yue took out her phone and suggested a selfie. Luo Yunye stood behind her, resting her hands lightly on the railing, tilting back just enough to be in frame, wearing a polite smile.
Satisfied with the photo, Qian Yue asked, “Mind if I post this on my Moments?”
“Go ahead, I don’t mind.”
Qian Yue quickly typed her caption: The mountaintop view is stunning.
Her post immediately got likes and comments.
The view is gorgeous, but she’s even prettier.
Whoa, that alpha’s beautiful. New girlfriend?
Qian Yue replied: Nope, I’m her junior.
Meanwhile, Luo Yunyi happened to scroll past the post, and her face instantly darkened.
She tapped the photo to zoom in, confirming that it was Luo Yunye. Furious, she sent her a message.
“Wanwan’s lying in bed at home, and you’re up on a mountain sightseeing with her friend, all alone? Seriously?”
Her phone buzzed in her bag. Luo Yunye glanced at the screen, expecting a message from the housekeeper—but it was from Luo Yunyi. Without hesitation, she blocked her.
Unaware she’d been blocked, Luo Yunyi sent another message.
“Qian Yue doesn’t know you’re married to Wanwan. You think lying to her like this won’t end up hurting her?”
The message failed to send. A red exclamation mark popped up.
Luo Yunyi stared at the screen, realizing Luo Yunye had blocked her. Fuming, she threw her phone onto the bed. There was no way she could fall asleep now—she tossed and turned, too agitated to nap.
Grabbing her phone again, she fired off a message to Qian Yue.
“Qian Yue, don’t get too close to Luo Yunye. She’s not as simple as you think.”
If it weren’t for Qin Yiwan, she would’ve just told Qian Yue outright that Luo Yunye was already married to her.
Qian Yue blinked at the message, confused.
“What do you mean? You know her?”
If Qian Yue really wanted to investigate after hearing that, she’d eventually dig up the truth about their complicated history. Rather than risk stirring up a mess and catching herself in it, Luo Yunyi chose to stop replying.
She figured planting a seed of doubt was enough—sooner or later, Qian Yue would see things clearly on her own.
******
The wind on the mountaintop was getting chillier—perfect weather for a hot spring soak.
The resort had separate pools for alphas and omegas, divided by a landscaped barrier.
Luo Yunye and Qian Yue each soaked in their own private pools.
No one spoke. Qian Yue got bored and leaned against the edge of the pool, idly scrolling through her phone.
Luo Yunye, on the other hand, found the quiet incredibly soothing. She closed her eyes and let her body relax into the warmth, the soft bubbling of the water blending with the distant calls of mountain birds. Slowly, her mind drifted, and she fell asleep.
Her dream was chaotic—flashes of Qin Yiwan as a child, then as an adult, then as her second persona.
Scenes they had lived through flickered by like a disjointed movie reel, finally settling on that moment when Qin Yiwan had looked her in the eyes and said, “I think you’ve mistaken me for someone else. We’ve never met.”
Then, like a gust of wind, Qin Yiwan disappeared before her eyes.
Luo Yunye chased after her, running all the way to the edge of a cliff—until her foot slipped and she plummeted into the abyss.
She woke with a start, gasping for air. Her heart was racing. She leaned against the pool’s edge, pressing her palm to her forehead.
She couldn’t stop thinking about Qin Yiwan… or about that line: We’ve never met.
Standing abruptly, Luo Yunye climbed out of the hot spring. She didn’t believe Qin Yiwan had forgotten her—not truly.
She had to go back. She had to make her remember.
She changed quickly and opened the door to leave—only to find Wei Ningxi standing outside, about to knock.
“Excuse me.”
Luo Yunye brushed past her without another word and bolted down the stairs, leaving Wei Ningxi frozen in place, unsure whether to call out or just stay put.
Luo Yunye called Qian Yue and told her she had an urgent matter to take care of and had to leave.
Worried, Qian Yue threw on a jacket and ran out with her phone in hand.
“It’s getting dark already. The mountain’s starting to fog up, visibility is low, and the road’s full of sharp turns. Driving down now is way too dangerous!”
Wei Ningxi, having overheard that Luo Yunye was heading down the mountain alone, also rushed out in search of her. As they reached the resort gate, a red sports car zoomed past them.
Over the phone, Luo Yunye’s voice came through clearly. “It’s really important. I can’t wait another second.”
“What could be so urgent? ” Qian Yue asked anxiously. She immediately called Lin Yujia. “Yujia, are you free? Can you drive down to the base of Mount Yunding and wait for Luo Yunye? She just drove off alone. I’m really worried, but I don’t want to call her again and distract her while she’s driving.
Can you just wait for her at the bottom and let me know she made it down safely?”
“Got it, Xuejie. Don’t worry—I’m heading there now.”
******
The car tore through the mountain road. Luo Yunye had once taken on the role of a professional racer, so she was no stranger to tight turns and high speeds. Still, due to the low visibility, she was driving more cautiously than usual.
Lin Yujia waited at the foot of the mountain for over half an hour before a red sports car finally appeared in the distance. She quickly called Qian Yue.
“It’s a red car. I couldn’t see the driver clearly, but I’m following it now to see where it’s headed.”
“Don’t follow her, Yujia—stay safe. I’ll call her again. If she’s really made it down, she should be able to answer.”
Even so, Lin Yujia kept driving behind the red car. She couldn’t help but wonder what could be so urgent that Luo Yunye would risk her life to leave the mountain alone.
But her skills behind the wheel didn’t compare. The red car soon disappeared at a fork in the road. By the time she reached the intersection, she had no idea which direction Luo Yunye had gone.
*****
At a traffic light, Luo Yunye’s phone lit up. It was Qian Yue calling.
“I’m down safely, Xuejie. Don’t worry.”
Qian Yue exhaled in relief. “Good. I’m glad you made it.”
After they hung up, she checked the estimated driving time down the mountain—it should’ve taken at least two and a half hours.
But Luo Yunye had done it in just an hour and a half.
She drove that fast?
Qian Yue was genuinely stunned.
*****
Wei Ningxi waited for two hours before trying to call Luo Yunye, only to find the line unreachable. She messaged her instead—only to discover she’d been blocked too.
Unsure what else to do, she messaged Lin Yujia, cautiously asking if she knew where Luo Yunye had gone.
“Didn’t you two already break up?”
Lin Yujia replied bluntly:
“I don’t know where Yunye is. Please don’t message me again.”
******
Luo Yunye didn’t care who was worried. The moment she parked at home, she rushed upstairs without pause.
Butler Lin saw her storming up the stairs and tried to greet her, but she was gone before he could speak. He sighed and went out to park the car.
Luo Yunye burst into the room and immediately saw that the monitor beside the bed was spiking wildly. The lines on the screen jumped up and down in a messy, erratic pattern.
Something was wrong with Qin Yiwan.
Her chest tightened with panic.
She climbed into bed and clasped Qin Yiwan’s hand tightly in her own, fingers interlaced. Her heart was pounding so hard she could hear it in her ears.
Suddenly, she opened her eyes—she was in Qin Yiwan’s room.
For a moment, she couldn’t tell if she had entered a dream or if this was real.
The bed was empty. A faint scent of jasmine lingered in the air.
Qin Yiwan must have entered her heat.
Luo Yunye instantly tensed. Her eyes drifted to the closed bathroom door. From inside came the muffled, stifled sounds of pain.
Reflexively, she reached under the nightstand for a suppressant—only to find the drawer completely empty.
No suppressants left.
Her gaze slowly shifted back to that door, her throat dry, a hard lump forming.
The jasmine pheromones in the air were thick and constant, swirling around her, sticking to her skin. As an alpha, her body responded instinctively—her bl00d ran hot, her mind clouded.
She shook her head, trying to clear it, forcing herself to suppress the urge rising within.
She stepped carefully toward the bathroom, trying not to make a sound.
Her hand rested gently on the doorknob.
In a low voice, she asked:
“Qin Yiwan… are you okay? Do you want… me to help you?”
