- Chapter 15 - You Brought This on Yourself
Qin Yiwan clearly remembered that her suppressants had always been kept in the drawer beneath her nightstand. But when she began to feel unwell and reached for them, the drawer was completely empty—nothing inside at all.
She couldn’t recall when she’d used the last dose. Her body burned up with fever, weak and limp, while the glands at the back of her neck ached in waves. Without suppressants, she had no idea how she was going to get through this.
She called Butler Lin, who panicked when he heard she was going into heat without medication and immediately drove out to buy more.
The waiting felt like torture. Qin Yiwan tried to soak herself in cold water to bring her temperature down, but it only cooled the surface of her skin and did nothing to ease the torment from within.
She missed Luo Yunye so much.
She wanted Luo Yunye to hold her.
Wasn’t she supposed to be her guardian?
Why hadn’t she come back after all this time?
She had already grown up. Why hadn’t she returned?
Thinking of Luo Yunye filled Qin Yiwan with sorrow. Her eyes reddened, and she curled up in the tub, biting her arm just to endure the pain.
Suddenly, a familiar voice came from beyond the door.
“Qin Yiwan, are you okay? Do you… want me to help you?”
It was Luo Yunye’s voice…
Qin Yiwan blinked in disbelief, thinking she was hallucinating. But when she turned toward the door and saw a figure standing outside, a sliver of hope bloomed in her chest. She leaned weakly over the edge of the bathtub and asked in a trembling voice, “Is that you, Luo Yunye?”
Luo Yunye’s eyes widened the instant she heard her name. Her heart raced uncontrollably.
She remembered me?
“It’s me.” Luo Yunye tried to suppress the surge of emotion, gripping the door handle tightly. “How are you feeling? Can I come in?”
“I feel awful.” The moment Qin Yiwan confirmed it was really her, she burst into tears. “Please come in and hold me.”
The next second, the bathroom door opened. Luo Yunye stood in the doorway and saw Qin Yiwan, draped in a soaking wet dress, slumped in the tub like a mermaid on the verge of drying out. Her eyes were red, the tip of her nose tinged pink—so heartbreakingly beautiful.
Luo Yunye grabbed a bathrobe, but when she saw the soaked dress clinging to Qin Yiwan, she hesitated. She turned her head and asked, “Can you take off your dress yourself? I’ll wrap you in the robe and carry you to bed.”
“Aren’t you my wife?”
Qin Yiwan looked at her with wide, watery eyes, full of grievance. “Help me take it off.”
“Now you remember I’m your wife?” Luo Yunye muttered.
Wasn’t it you who looked me in the eye before and claimed we’d never met?
Afraid she wouldn’t be able to suppress her Alpha instincts and hurt her, Luo Yunye didn’t dare look directly at her body. She reached out and unzipped the back of the dress, sliding it off her shoulders with trembling hands.
“I’ve always known you were my wife,” Qin Yiwan murmured.
Luo Yunye was about to lift her up by the shoulders when suddenly, Qin Yiwan cupped her face, pulled her in, and pressed her burning lips against hers.
Luo Yunye froze, completely caught off guard by the kiss. Her breath stopped, and her heart pounded so hard it threatened to burst from her chest.
The room fell silent, save for the gentle drip of water from Qin Yiwan’s arm into the tub. The jasmine-scented pheromones in the air grew thicker and sweeter.
As Qin Yiwan’s tongue slipped past her lips, Luo Yunye snapped back to herself. She grasped her shoulders and gently pushed her away. Swallowing hard, she stared into Qin Yiwan’s eyes and asked, “Do you know who I am?”
“You’re Luo Yunye.”
Qin Yiwan touched her cheek with a soft hand, then nestled into her embrace, inhaling her comforting scent. Like a spoiled kitten, she rubbed her cheek against Luo Yunye’s neck and whispered, “You’re my future wife.”
“Then why did you say before that we’d never met? I thought… I thought you forgot me.”
Luo Yunye held her close, a surge of joy rising in her chest—like recovering something precious once lost. This was the Qin Yiwan she knew.
“When did I ever say that?” Qin Yiwan continued nuzzling her, planting a kiss on her cheek. “The last time I saw you, I was still in middle school.”
“???”
Luo Yunye was stunned. They had clearly seen each other recently—outside the university restaurant.
But now that she thought about it, that Qin Yiwan had been cold, nearly expressionless, and completely unlike the soft and clingy girl in her arms right now.
Luo Yunye frowned, wrapping the bathrobe around her and carrying her out of the bathroom.
“Do you remember everything we went through together?” she asked.
“Of course,” Qin Yiwan said, resting in her arms, looking up at her. “I remember the first time we met—it was a stormy night. I remember you taking me to the amusement park, buying suppressants with me, and the first time I went into heat… you were there the whole time.”
Luo Yunye’s heart began to pound again—this time with a rising sense of dread.
She had a bad feeling about this.
“Do you remember that you were in a car accident and became comatose? Do you remember what your mother told you?”
“What did she say?”
Qin Yiwan looked at her, confused. “What did Mom say?”
Luo Yunye’s heart sank. As she suspected—this Qin Yiwan wasn’t the same dominant personality as before.
“It’s nothing.”
Luo Yunye gently laid her down on the bed, wrapped her in the bathrobe, and held her close. She released calming pheromones to soothe the discomfort of her heat, but that was all—she didn’t take it any further.
Held tightly in Luo Yunye’s arms, Qin Yiwan couldn’t move. She couldn’t even reach up to touch her face or sneak a kiss.
“Don’t hold me so tight; I can’t move,” she grumbled, squirming in frustration. She was clearly annoyed. She had grown up—so why was Luo Yunye still treating her like a kid?
“If I let go, you better behave,” Luo Yunye said sternly. “Don’t touch me and no kissing either.”
“Why not?”
Qin Yiwan tilted her head to look at her. Her big, dewy eyes were tinged red, full of innocent confusion.
“Aren’t you my wife?”
She snuggled closer into her arms. “I’m already grown up. We could…”
“We can do a temporary mark,” Luo Yunye cut her off.
She knew Qin Yiwan was only acting this way because of the fever of her heat. Once it passed—once her dominant personality returned—she might regret this, maybe even resent her.
Luo Yunye sighed softly. How was she supposed to handle a wife with three personalities?
“Turn around,” she said gently.
Qin Yiwan pouted, clearly unhappy with Luo Yunye’s distance, but still obediently rolled over.
Luo Yunye opened the bathrobe, revealing her elegant swan-like neck, smooth shoulders, and the gland at the back of her neck.
“It might hurt a little. Try to bear it.”
As soon as she spoke, Luo Yunye bit down. Qin Yiwan gasped at the sting, her whole body tensing. She whimpered, instinctively reaching for something, and Luo Yunye offered her hand, which Qin Yiwan grasped tightly.
The temporary mark didn’t take long. Luo Yunye’s pheromones quickly settled the restless energy in Qin Yiwan’s system. The previously overwhelming jasmine scent in the air began to fade.
Once it was done, Qin Yiwan was still panting heavily, a light sheen of sweat on her forehead. Luo Yunye turned her over and gently pressed a gland patch on her neck, then wiped her forehead with a tissue.
Cradling her in her arms, Luo Yunye softly patted her back, then couldn’t help teasing her:
“You couldn’t even handle a temporary mark, and you’re talking about doing more?”
Qin Yiwan let out a weak grunt, still trying to act tough. “How would you know if you don’t try?”
“Qin Yiwan…”
Luo Yunye suddenly tightened her embrace and said through gritted teeth, “You’re all better now, but I’m still suffering. Don’t test me again.”
Qin Yiwan huffed, unconvinced. “That’s your own fault.”
“You’re right.” Luo Yunye leaned in and kissed the top of her head. “I brought this on myself.”
She had barged into her dream and stirred up emotions she couldn’t control—only to discover that the girl had two other personalities. Now she didn’t even know how to deal with it anymore.
