- Chapter 2 - Pretty Little Wife, Are You Hiding Something?
News of Qin Yiwan’s car accident and resulting coma had stirred up a storm online. She became the center of attention in gossip circles and some people posted about how kind she had been as an Omega and expressed their sorrow for her misfortune.
But not everyone was sympathetic. Others sneered that people like her, rich and sheltered, had no idea how harsh real life could be—saying her fate was deserved.
Worse still, some even photoshopped her picture into a memorial portrait, cursing her to die sooner rather than later.
Qin Rushuang was furious at the slander and those wishing death upon Qin Yiwan. She immediately hired a legal team to sue each of them one by one.
Still, even though the online garbage had been dealt with, the ache in her heart refused to fade.
If she could do it over, she would’ve been a better mother—softer, more attentive, less harsh with her daughter.
The Qin family didn’t want Qin Yiwan’s situation to remain public gossip. The wedding with the Luo family was kept deliberately low-key—only their closest circles were even aware of it.
At noon, both families sat down for lunch. But when the meal was served, Luo Yunye was nowhere in sight. Even after Butler Lin went to call her, she still hadn’t shown up.
Luo Dongbin chuckled awkwardly as he apologized to Qin Rushuang and the Qin matriarch “Madam, President Qin, Yunye was raised by her mother and never learned proper manners. I’ll take her home after this and make sure she’s properly taught. Once she’s ready, I’ll bring her back to you.”
The Qin matriarch, though well past sixty and her hair silver-white, was still in excellent health. She had just turned to hear what Butler Lin had to report, only for Luo Dongbin to suddenly start badmouthing his own daughter.
Her eyes turned cold as she glanced at him, voice calm but commanding.
“Now that Yunye has married into the Qin family, she is no longer anyone else’s to discipline.”
Luo Dongbin faltered, offering a string of apologetic nods. “Yes, of course, the Qin family will surely raise her better. We’ll leave Yunye in your capable hands.”
“Now that today’s ceremony is over, our engagement is officially fulfilled,” the matriarch continued. “From this moment on, Yunye belongs to the Qin family. Whatever ties she had to the Luo family—are severed.”
“This…”
Luo Dongbin’s expression turned uneasy. “Madam, that’s a bit much, isn’t it? Yunye is still our daughter, not some livestock you just handed off in a deal. Surely you don’t mean she’s got nothing to do with us anymore?”
“That’s right, Madam,” chimed in Liu Chuyi with a light smile. “Yunye might’ve grown up with her mother, but Dongbin and I always looked after her, sent her gifts and money. She may not feel close to us, but she’s still our daughter. Marriage doesn’t erase bl00d ties, does it?”
Luo Yunyi, startled by Liu Chuyi’s nudge, seemed to snap out of her thoughts and quickly echoed, “Exactly, Grandma Qin. No matter what, Yunye is still my sister. I… I already missed my chance with Yiwan…”
When she mentioned Qin Yiwan, her voice dropped with sorrow. “I’m not worthy of marrying Yiwan. That’s regret enough. But if Yunye loses all contact with us because of me, I’ll be nothing but a sinner in this life.
Aunt Qin, Grandma Qin, please… for the sake of my relationship with Yiwan, don’t make things harder for Yunye. Let her visit home once in a while.”
The three of them—Dongbin, Chuyi, and Yunyi—took turns like actors in a rehearsed skit.
The Qin matriarch sighed lightly after listening, then turned to Qin Rushuang, as if she had no interest in continuing this charade.
Qin Rushuang sat with composed elegance, radiating an authority even greater than the matriarch’s. Her cold, quiet presence was enough to chill the room.
She had remained expressionless the entire time, only taking a small sip from her glass. Then she calmly set it down, lifted her gaze to Luo Dongbin, and spoke in a slow, indifferent tone.
“Whatever mess your family has, today is not the time or place for it. Butler Lin, show them out.”
“Mr. Luo,” Butler Lin gestured politely, “this way, please.”
It took Luo Dongbin a moment to realize he was being kicked out. When it finally sank in, his expression darkened.
He quickly forced a smile and turned to Qin Rushuang. “It’s my daughter’s wedding day. President Qin, can’t we at least share a meal together? Isn’t this going too far?”
“Too far?”
Qin Rushuang picked up a handkerchief and began drying her fingers. Her face remained utterly impassive as she gave the order: “Butler Lin, throw them out.”
She said it with the same casual tone as if she were asking someone to take out the trash.
Luo Dongbin, though a grown man, could feel the heat rising in his chest. He was about to snap when Butler Lin signaled the security guards waiting by the door. Three of them came forward and grabbed hold of the family.
“Hey! What are you doing? Let go—I’ll walk out on my own! Don’t you dare touch my wife and daughter! Stop! President Qin, make them stop! We’ll leave, alright? We’ll go!”
His angry shouts echoed through the quiet hall. The guards had seized Luo Yunyi and Liu Chuyi by the arms, dragging them out. Both cried out in pain, struggling and swatting at the guards. Hairpins clattered to the floor, their hair falling loose in the scuffle—it was a humiliating mess.
Their loud protests made the place sound like a marketplace. Qin Rushuang frowned and lifted a hand, and the guards immediately backed off.
Luo Dongbin seethed, straightening his clothes and shooting a furious glare at the Qin matriarch and Qin Rushuang. He wanted to lash out, but he also feared getting beaten up, so he bit back the words and stormed off instead.
Upstairs, Luo Yunye had watched the whole scene unfold. Seeing her so-called family being thoroughly put in their place left her feeling more satisfied than ever. As they staggered out the door, she even called down sweetly:
“Dad? You’re leaving without even eating?”
Luo Dongbin looked up and shot her a furious glare before storming out with Luo Yunyi and Liu Chuyi in tow.
Outside, Luo Yunyi finally broke down in tears.
“Yunyi, are you okay? That was scary, huh?” Luo Dongbin asked, his voice full of concern. “We’re never stepping foot in that Qin house again. No one deserves to be treated like that.”
His words only made Luo Yunyi cry harder. She collapsed into Liu Chuyi’s arms, sobbing bitterly.
“This girl…”
Dongbin started to say something, but when Liu Chuyi gave him a subtle shake of the head, he sighed and put his arm around Yunyi, leading her toward the car.
The road was empty. They had come in a Qin family car, but of course, that ride was no longer available. Luo Dongbin glanced back at the Qin house in frustration, then angrily kicked a stone by the curb and called their driver.
Back inside, Luo Yunye had changed out of her wedding gown into a long dress Butler Lin had prepared earlier. She made her way down the stairs, slowly and gracefully, ignoring the two women waiting below as if they weren’t there at all.
After taking her seat, she finally smiled and offered an explanation.
“I was helping Ah-Wan change out of her gown just now. Sorry for the delay. Hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long.”
Before either Qin Yiwan or the matriarch could speak, Du Weimin interjected with a frown.
“Even so, you should’ve sent someone down to inform us. Keeping your mother and grandmother waiting? That’s no way to behave.”
“Yes, Mother. You’re right to scold me.”
Luo Yunye nodded sweetly, though her tone lacked even the faintest hint of guilt.
Du Weimin opened her mouth to lecture her further, but the Qin matriarch gently cleared her throat. “Just be more mindful next time. Let’s eat.”
Luo Yunye smiled tenderly. As the dishes were served, she politely asked the matriarch what she liked to eat and began to serve her with great care.
One of Luo Yunye’s greatest strengths was her unpretentious nature. If she wanted to do something, she did it. If she had a question, she asked it—without tiptoeing around anyone.
Even when faced with Qin matriarch’s cool distance and Qin Rushuang’s intimidating presence, both women stone-faced throughout the meal, she still managed to dine gracefully. When she found something she particularly liked, her eyes would light up with childlike delight. She’d call over the butler, asking them to have the kitchen prepare it again next time.
When she noticed Butler Lin glancing toward Qin Rushuang, Luo Yunye turned her head and smiled.
“Mother, I really like this sweet and sour pork rib dish. Could we ask the kitchen to make more?”
She was so direct, so candid—her smile twinkling like starlight. For a brief moment, Qin Rushuang felt like a child was gently coaxing her for attention.
Something unspoken flickered in her eyes, softening ever so slightly. She gave a subtle nod. “If you want something, just tell the staff. You don’t need to ask for my permission.”
That was enough for Butler Lin. He took note of her preferences at once and quietly passed the message to the kitchen.
After the meal, Luo Yunye returned to her room.
She wasn’t in the mood for a nap, so she wandered into Qin Yiwan’s room. On the vanity were several framed photos—every single one of them solo shots. No friends. No family.
The system had only provided her with background on the original Luo Yunye. Not much about Qin Yiwan.
But based on Qin Yiwan’s rich and glamorous persona, she should’ve had plenty of friends. At the very least, there should’ve been a photo of her and Luo Yunyi together—after all, they were supposed to be the leads of the story.
Luo Yunye scanned the room, then walked over and sat beside the bed. Resting her chin in her hand, she let her gaze fall on Qin Yiwan’s breathtaking face. With a chuckle, she reached out and lifted her chin gently.
“Beautiful little wife… you’re hiding something, aren’t you?”
“Congratulations, Host. You’ve unlocked the Dream Entry ability.”
The system’s sudden voice startled Luo Yunye. She yanked her hand back, her heart racing. Just as she was about to curse, the system added:
“Entering dreams allows you to quickly understand the heroine.”
She swallowed the curse that had nearly slipped out and muttered instead, “Next time, give me some warning, will you? I nearly had a heart attack.”
System: …
If she could enter the heroine’s dreams, then what was she waiting for?
Luo Yunye climbed onto the bed and lay down beside Qin Yiwan, gently taking her hand in hers. She closed her eyes as drowsiness slowly swept over her.
When she opened them again, she found herself standing on the second floor of the Qin family home. For a moment, she couldn’t tell if this was a dream or reality—until two little girls came running in from downstairs, giggling and tickling each other’s sides.
“Jiejie, I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I won’t do it again—haha!”
“You always say that, and then you sneak up on me when I’m not looking! Not this time—I’m not falling for it.”
The younger girl clung to her sister’s waist. “I really mean it this time. Please, jiejie? Forgive me?”
She was so adorably sincere that her older sister could only flick her forehead and sigh. “Alright, alright. I’ll let you off the hook.”
“Jiejie, let’s go catch butterflies in the garden! I want to make a butterfly specimen!”
As Luo Yunye came downstairs, the two girls dashed outside like a pair of wild breezes. Before she could follow them, the scene shifted, and she suddenly found herself in the garden.
The girl who looked exactly like a young Qin Yiwan was running about, chasing butterflies with her little sister. Their laughter rang through the air, carefree and bright.
Later, when Qin Rushuang and Du Weimin returned from work, the two girls sprinted toward them with joy. Young Qin Rushuang’s face lit up with a rare, radiant smile as she scooped both daughters into her arms. Du Weimin followed behind, carrying her bag. They looked like a picture-perfect family of four.
At dinner, Qin Yiwan sang happy birthday to her little sister. They laughed and celebrated her fifth birthday with a cozy, cheerful meal.
Afterward, the whole family snuggled on the couch for a group photo.
Then suddenly—darkness. Torrential rain pounded against the windows. Wind howled outside like a wild beast.
Inside the stormy house, Qin Rushuang clutched the very same family photo in her trembling hands. She knelt in front of a pale-faced Qin Yiwan, gripping her shoulders, tears pouring down her face.
“Why?” she cried out in anguish. “Why did you take your sister out?!”
Qin Yiwan’s small face was pale, her eyes brimming with tears. She opened her mouth to call out “Mom,” but before she could speak, she was shoved out onto the balcony. The door slammed shut behind her.
The wind caught the photo as it fell from her hands, sending it flying down into the night. Qin Yiwan reached out, trying to grab it—but she missed.
She could only watch helplessly as it vanished into the storm, lost in the dark, pounding rain.
