After the Divorce, the Heiress Omega Regretted It - Chapter 29
It was just a bowl of congee. Just a bowl.
Luo Yunye’s grip on Luo Yunyi’s hair tightened involuntarily. But the anger surging inside her was extinguished in an instant by a single sentence from Qin Yiwan. Her heart turned cold.
She wanted to tell her that she had woken up at five in the morning, standing by the pot, patiently skimming off the foam, simmering the congee until it was soft and smooth. No additives, just the pure aroma of rice and meat. Gentle on the stomach—perfect for someone recovering.
To Luo Yunye, that congee wasn’t just food. It carried her care. Her love.
But… did Qin Yiwan even care?
Maybe to her, it made no difference at all.
Whether it was bought by Luo Yunyi or made painstakingly by her—it was all just congee.
“Yunye, I’m sorry! I’ll buy you a new bowl, okay? Could you please—please let go of my hair?”
Luo Yunyi’s scalp was screaming in pain. But how could she pass up such a perfect chance to play the victim and plant a seed of doubt in Qin Yiwan’s mind? If she didn’t take advantage of this moment, even her scalp would be disappointed.
Luo Yunye didn’t respond.
Qin Yiwan looked at her and spoke again; this time her voice was colder and firmer. “Luo Yunye, let go.”
After a sleepless night in the hallway, waking up at dawn just to make that congee, all her frustration and hurt boiled together inside her. Luo Yunye’s eyes turned red. She drew in a long breath, let go, and turned toward the door. “I’ll go ask the nurse to change the sheets.”
She walked out like a lost soul—drifting and empty.
She felt trapped. Trapped in the dream she had shared with A’wan. A dream so beautiful that waking up to this cold, distant version of Qin Yiwan was too painful to accept.
She felt like a pathetic little stray, abandoned.
The more she thought about it, the more ridiculous she felt. Was it really that big of a deal? She had transmigrated through so many books—what kind of situation hadn’t she seen? What sort of grievances hadn’t she endured?
So why was this one so unbearable?
After asking a nurse to replace the bedding, Luo Yunye walked outside the hospital and sat down in a pavilion, lost in thought.
She didn’t want to go back, didn’t want to hear Luo Yunyi playing sweet in front of Qin Yiwan, or see Yiwan choosing Luo Yunyi over her.
“Host, if you need someone to talk to, you can talk to me.”
The system’s sudden voice nearly made her fall off the bench.
Luo Yunye clutched her chest.
“Good god—don’t sneak up on me like that. You scared the hell out of me.”
“I received the notification that the female lead, Qin Yiwan, has regained consciousness. I just came to check in. Host, are you dealing with something upsetting right now?”
Luo Yunye really had no one to talk to, so she treated the system like a tree hollow to vent into.
“Qin Yiwan woke up with amnesia. But I’d already fallen in love with her during the dream. I know this version of her isn’t the same, but I can’t separate them in my heart—and I can’t bring myself to walk away.
I thought if I just treated her well, eventually she’d remember us—our memories together.
But now, this Qin Yiwan sees me as a stranger… even as a threat. She’s not letting me in at all.”
The system went quiet for a moment. Luo Yunye thought it had ghosted her again, but suddenly it spoke, making her jump.
“Host, after analyzing your emotional data, I can confirm there’s been a major change in your personality since you fell in love with Qin Yiwan. You’re no longer cold and self-centered like before. You’re thinking about her feelings. When she doesn’t reciprocate, you feel hurt, sad—and that’s dragging down your mood.”
Luo Yunye nodded helplessly.
“You’re not wrong. So… any practical advice?”
“Based on her personality, Qin Yiwan struggles to build close bonds with anyone. The more you push, the more guarded she’ll become.
So my suggestion is go back to being yourself. Stop focusing so much on her. Finish your mission—find the person responsible for her car accident. When that’s done, you can revisit your relationship with her.”
It was rational. Coldly rational. If only it were that easy.
But after talking with the system, her mood did improve a little.
Looking back, ever since she entered Qin Yiwan’s dream, her whole life had started to revolve around her. Day and night, she’d been thinking about her—so much so that she’d almost forgotten her original goal of living freely and fabulously.
Love was terrifying. It blinded you. Made you lose sight of yourself.
Luo Yunye decided: from now on, she’d go back to being herself. She’d shine on her own terms. And even if Qin Yiwan chose to ignore her, eventually she’d feel her presence.
Zhao Ke returned to the hospital with breakfast. From afar, she saw Luo Yunye sitting in the pavilion. She walked over and laid out the steaming buns, soy milk, fried dough sticks, and shrimp dumplings on the bench.
“Young Madam, breakfast is ready.”
Luo Yunye took a bun and took a bite. The soup inside was warm and perfectly seasoned. As the sun slowly rose, the gloom inside her finally began to lift.
“People really do need to love themselves first—only then will they have the strength to love others.”
In a good mood now, she waved a hand when Zhao Ke tried to return the change. “Keep it.”
“I can’t, Young Madam. You already pay me very well.”
“It’s a tip. Take it.”
She smiled. “Thanks for getting me breakfast. You made this morning a little less miserable.”
Zhao Ke accepted the bills like they were hot coals—clearly uncomfortable—but bowed her head and said, “Young Madam, it’s what I’m supposed to do.”
After finishing breakfast, Luo Yunye stood and looked toward the hospital. “Can you clean this up for me? And later, go tell Qin Yiwan I’ve gone back to work. She can call me if she needs anything.”
She walked a few steps away, then turned back and added, “That last part was for you.”
Zhao Ke nodded. “Got it.”
Originally, Luo Yunye had taken a week off work to care for Qin Yiwan—it was Du Weimin herself who called the R&D director to inform him. The director was so furious that he slammed his hand on his desk.
“Second day of her internship and she takes a week off? Even people selling fish at the market are more consistent than this. What kind of person is this?! Unbelievable.”
He was so loud the whole office heard it. There was only one intern, and she wasn’t there that day—everyone immediately guessed it was Luo Yunye.
Zhang Tingting messaged her, asking if something serious had happened.
Luo Yunye replied that she’d explain once she was back. She didn’t expect to actually return the very next day.
After showering, washing her hair, changing into a fresh outfit, and putting on flawless makeup, she walked into the office surrounded by curious stares and admiring glances.
Zhang Tingting was surprised to see her. “Yunye, you’re back? Come sit. About the idea you mentioned earlier—I’ve sketched out a rough plan…”
Eyes lighting up, Luo Yunye walked over to discuss the details with her.
Once everything was finalized, she started working in the lab on a smart puppy robot.
******
Every morning, she would wake up early to make congee for Qin Yiwan. She wasn’t great at variety, like breakfast shops, so it was always minced meat and veggie congee—simple but nutritious. She packed it in a thermal box and had Butler Lin deliver it.
Whether Yiwan ate it or not, he always reported back.
Zhao Ke also stayed at the hospital every day and gave regular updates—who visited and what was said.
Aside from the Qin family and Luo Yunyi, even Gu Qianyue had come by.
Luo Yunye was glad she hadn’t been there. If she’d run into Gu Qianyue, she wouldn’t have known how to explain their history.
Qin Yiwan probably didn’t want anyone to know about their relationship anyway.
These days, Luo Yunye threw herself into the smart puppy project. At first, she just wanted something to distract her, but gradually she got really into it. She hoped to finish it before Qin Yiwan’s birthday—as a gift.
That night, she worked until late and fell asleep on her desk. The next morning, she woke with a jolt—it was already 6 a.m. Remembering the congee, she rushed home.
Time was tight. She prepped the vegetables and meat, but when she reached to lift the pot lid, she burned herself. The lid clattered loudly to the floor.
In the dining room, Grandma Qin, Qin Rushuang, and Du Weimin were having breakfast. Startled by the noise, Grandma called out, “Yunye, are you okay?”
Her delicate hand was already blistering. She hissed from the pain but forced her voice to stay cheerful. “I’m fine, Grandma. Just dropped the pot lid.”
“As long as you’re okay.”
Grandma Qin relaxed and went back to eating.
After she finished preparing the porridge and had Butler Lin take it to the hospital, Luo Yunye finally sat down for breakfast. By then, Qin Rushuang and Du Weimin had already finished eating and were getting ready to leave.
Grandma Qin, who ate slowly, waited until Luo Yunye had taken a few bites before asking, “Butler Lin told me you’ve been working a lot lately and haven’t visited Wanwan. Is it because she slapped you, and you’re upset?”
“She had her reasons for slapping me. I’m not angry. It’s just… Wanwan doesn’t remember anything from when she was in a coma, so to her, I’m just a stranger. If I keep showing up, I’d probably just be bothering her.”
“Silly child,” Grandma Qin gently patted her hand. “Wanwan just takes time to warm up to people. That’s exactly why you need to keep spending time with her. How else will she get used to you if you’re never around?
I can tell you care about her, but quietly caring from a distance won’t help—you have to let her know.”
Luo Yunye nodded. “I understand, Grandma.”
Before, Luo Yunye didn’t let Butler Lin tell Qin Yiwan that the porridge was made by her. She was afraid Yiwan wouldn’t eat it—or worse, would think she had ulterior motives.
But Grandma Qin was right. Luo Yunyi would boast about buying porridge from a breakfast shop, so why hide it when she had spent all that time cooking it herself?
So Luo Yunye sent Butler Lin a message:
“Find a good moment to let Wanwan know that I made the porridge.”
When Butler Lin read the message, she was walking down the hospital hallway. A smile crept across her face—this was something she’d been wanting to do for days.
She was a little late today, and by the time she arrived, Luo Yunyi was already there with an assortment of porridges. The smile on Butler Lin’s face froze for a moment, but she quickly regained her composure, walked over to Qin Yiwan, and said cheerfully, “Miss, I brought you some porridge.”
As she spoke, she opened the insulated container, placed a spoon on top, and handed it to Yiwan.
After a week of eating nothing but porridge, everything had started to taste bland.
The ones Luo Yunyi brought didn’t sit well with her, but the porridge from Butler Lin was different—it had the perfect balance of flavor. The mixture of vegetables, minced meat, and rice was just the right consistency and subtly seasoned, making it incredibly savory.
And since Butler Lin brought it, it must have been made by the housekeeper at home—much cleaner and more trustworthy than anything bought outside.
Qin Yiwan ate slowly, one spoonful at a time. Luo Yunyi watched her porridge getting ignored and kept trying to win her favor, asking if she’d like to try this or that or which flavor she liked best so she could buy it again.
“I think this one’s just fine,” Yiwan replied, glancing at Butler Lin. “Did Aunt Zhou make it?”
Butler Lin had been fretting over how to bring it up, so when Yiwan finally asked, she couldn’t have been happier. With a warm smile, she said,
“Miss, this porridge was made by the young madam herself. She’s been getting up at five every morning to make it for you.
Last night, she worked so late at the office that she fell asleep there. She rushed home early this morning to cook it and ended up burning herself—her hands are so delicate, and now they’re covered in blisters. It looks painful just to see.”
Suddenly, the porridge didn’t taste quite so good anymore.
Qin Yiwan hadn’t seen Luo Yunye in days, and no one had mentioned her either—she had nearly forgotten the woman existed. But to think the porridge she’d been eating every day was made by her…
What was this? Doing good deeds without asking for credit? Quiet sacrifices without expecting anything in return?
Yiwan had a poor impression of Luo Yunye, so she couldn’t help but assume the worst. But watching how tenderly Butler Lin spoke of her injury and how much respect and fondness she had for her—it made Yiwan reconsider.
After Luo Yunyi left, she finally asked Butler Lin, “What kind of person is Luo Yunye, in your eyes?”
Butler Lin smiled at the memory of their first meeting.
“The first time I met the young madam was at the Luo family home, during the wedding ceremony. She had a strong personality and bold fashion sense—you could tell right away she wasn’t someone to mess with.
But after spending time with her, I realized she’s actually a very kind person. She’s beautiful, unrestrained, and a bit flamboyant—but also incredibly meticulous, especially when it comes to caring for you.
She would go out of her way to create a whole atmosphere for you—movie nights, concerts, delicious food, even coordinating with the weather.
A cloudy day, a sunny day… to her, those weren’t just adjectives, but feelings. While helping her set the scene, I could sense the emotion she wanted to share with you. And I believe, back then, you felt it too.”
When Grandma Qin had told her about the things Luo Yunye had done, she’d assumed it was just bias. But now, hearing it again from Butler Lin, Yiwan started to see Luo Yunye in a different light.
Maybe she had jumped to conclusions, deciding Luo Yunye was a bad person, so no matter what she did, it seemed wrong. Like that night, when she’d assumed Luo Yunye was going to take advantage of her and slapped her across the face.
But thinking back now—maybe Luo Yunye had simply been worried she might fall in the bathroom, so she carried her back to bed.
From her perspective, they were wives. She had touched her body while caring for her many times already—carrying her was just a natural thing. The only problem was that mouth of hers, always saying the wrong things.
Still, Qin Yiwan didn’t want to dwell on it. What’s done is done. She had already slapped her—she didn’t regret it.
The night before her discharge, Luo Yunye arrived at the hospital holding a bouquet of fresh flowers.
Zhao Ke was guarding the door and greeted her respectfully, “Young madam.”
Hearing that title, Qin Yiwan paused. Then she heard Luo Yunye’s voice, “Wanwan, may I come in?”
To be honest, Luo Yunye wasn’t just good-looking—her voice was beautiful too.
Qin Yiwan sent off her message, shut her laptop, and looked toward the door. “Come in.”
At first, she locked her door every night before sleeping. But after learning Zhao Ke was a beta and always stationed outside, she relaxed and stopped locking it.
Luo Yunye stepped inside and walked up to the bed, offering her the roses.
“Wanwan, congratulations on getting discharged tomorrow.”
Qin Yiwan had received many flowers before, but this was her first time seeing such a beautiful gradient of pink and lavender—it was so dreamy, she doubted, “Are these… fake?”
Luo Yunye had anticipated this reaction. Smiling, she replied, “They’re real. I dyed them myself using non-toxic, odorless pigments. If you’re still worried, I can put them off to the side.”
She reached out to take them back, but Qin Yiwan placed them on the bedside table first.
“Thank you. But didn’t it ever occur to you that I might not like something you went through so much trouble to prepare?”
“I did think about that,” Luo Yunye smiled. “But compared to any other rose you’ve received, at least this one is special. One of a kind. Isn’t it?”
Qin Yiwan had to admit—she was right.
If Luo Yunye had brought a bouquet of red roses, she probably wouldn’t remember anything about it days from now—maybe not even whether she had brought flowers at all.
But this pink-purple ombré bouquet was unforgettable. She would remember receiving these flowers tonight, hand-dyed with care by Luo Yunye.
She suddenly recalled what Butler Lin had said: Luo Yunye liked to create an atmosphere, to let people immerse themselves and feel what she wanted them to feel.
She could feel it now.
Whether it was cooking porridge or dyeing flowers, Luo Yunye was clearly putting in the effort. All these silly gestures… were just her way of touching herself emotionally.
But Qin Yiwan didn’t need such cheap affection. And she certainly wouldn’t fall for this kind of trick, the kind meant to charm little girls.
“Well, I’ll accept the flowers. Thank you. It’s late—you should go. I need to rest.”
“Alright. I’ll come pick you up in the morning.”
The next morning, after finishing the discharge paperwork, Luo Yunye returned to the hospital room—only to find it empty.
Zhao Ke informed her that Luo Yunyi had just taken Qin Yiwan away. She had tried calling Luo Yunye, but the call wasn’t answered.
Luo Yunye checked her phone—somehow the ringtone had been turned down, and with all the noise earlier, she hadn’t heard it ring.
It seemed Qin Yiwan didn’t intend to keep anything in the room.
On the floor, she spotted the bouquet she had brought the night before. It lay partially crushed beneath the fallen trash can, its vibrant petals glowing harshly under the sunlight.
Qin Yiwan had thrown her flowers away.
