- Chapter 31 - After This, We’ll Get Divorced
She should’ve known better than to expect anything from this version of Qin Yiwan.
Luo Yunye suddenly realized that when you’re at your lowest, with your heart feeling completely empty, you actually want to laugh.
She let out a helpless laugh and opened the divorce papers. “Let me take a look first.”
The two of them moved to the couch. Luo Yunye flipped through the documents.
The first part was a standard template. Something about irreconcilable differences, mutual decision after careful consideration, etc.
Then came the property division. Luo Yunye didn’t own much, but Qin Yiwan’s assets were listed across several pages, and she was giving her half of everything.
Clearly, Qin Yiwan was determined to end things. No one would give up this much otherwise.
Luo Yunye wasn’t interested in the detailed breakdown. Her eyes went straight to the last clause.
“Since this marriage was never made public, both parties agree not to disclose it or any related private matters to uninvolved third parties after divorce. Any actions that damage the other party’s reputation will result in a penalty of one billion.”
So that was it. She wanted to erase her completely and pretend they’d never even met.
But why should everything go her way? If she wanted to forget, then forget. If she wanted a divorce, then just divorce?
Luo Yunye closed the file and looked at Qin Yiwan with a smile. “Thanks for giving me so much of your property, sis.”
Qin Yiwan assumed her silence meant agreement and handed over the pen. “If you don’t have any objections, sign here. I’ll let the lawyers handle the rest.”
“I’ve got no problem with the property split,” Luo Yunye said, arms folded across her chest as she leaned back into the couch, head tilted, smile soft and sweet. “But I don’t agree to the divorce.”
Qin Yiwan’s expression instantly turned cold. She couldn’t believe she’d already offered up so much, yet Luo Yunye still wouldn’t sign. Just moments ago she was so calm, so indifferent.
“Why not? You marry me for three months and walk away with wealth you’d never earn in a lifetime. Isn’t that a good deal?”
“Of course it is,” Luo Yunye nodded. “But why do I have to be cast aside like I’m some stain you’re scrubbing off?”
Qin Yiwan chalked it up to immaturity—young and proud, unable to handle rejection. She stayed composed and tried to reason with her.
“First of all, I married you without knowing anything. That was already unfair to me.
Second, this agreement is more than fair. I owe you nothing. If you don’t like that I’m the one bringing up the divorce, then you can do it. Draft the agreement yourself if you want.”
“You really think you don’t owe me anything?” Luo Yunye turned her head, locking eyes with her. “Did you forget those days when you were unconscious and I took care of everything? Did you forget what we shared in those dreams—”
Stop it. There’s no point in dragging those memories out. They only ever existed in her head. Saying them out loud would just make her look pathetic.
Qin Yiwan didn’t believe that in those two months she was unconscious, some stranger like Luo Yunye could fall for her deeply enough to give up money and chase after love.
If she really thought that, it’d be ridiculous.
Money was already a compromise. Love? That was never going to happen.
“So tell me—what will it take for you to agree to a divorce?”
Luo Yunye didn’t want to divorce. What she wanted was a second chance to get close to Qin Yiwan and make her fall for her.
“How about this,” she offered. “You agree to do ten things with me that a couple would do. Once we finish them, I’ll sign.”
At the mention of “ten things a couple would do,” Qin Yiwan’s face turned frosty. “I’m not going to have any physical intimacy with you.”
Luo Yunye smiled with a teasing tilt of her lips. “Is that where your mind went? I meant things like watching a movie or going shopping. Of course, if you do want to kiss, cuddle, or do anything more… I won’t say no.”
“Luo Yunye.”
Qin Yiwan shot her a warning glare. She knew this girl was just messing with her. Frowning, she pulled a blank sheet of paper from her bag and handed it over. “Write down your ten requests. Let me see them first.”
Luo Yunye started writing as she thought.
-
- Watch a movie
-
- Candlelight dinner
-
- Spend a day at an amusement park
-
- Go shopping and buy each other clothes
-
- Attend a concert
-
- Go hiking in the wild
-
- Drop off and pick up each other from work
-
- Celebrate each other’s birthdays
-
- Do each other’s makeup and hair, and take a photo shoot together
-
- Write a letter to each other and read it aloud
She handed the list to Qin Yiwan, who read it line by line. Aside from the photo shoot, everything else seemed manageable.
“We’ll have to delete the photos after the divorce,” Qin Yiwan said. “The rest I’ll make time for.”
She glanced at the clock. “It’s still early. Let’s watch a movie tonight.”
“There’s one more item for tonight,” Luo Yunye said, drawing a line under item number eight. Her gaze landed gently on Qin Yiwan’s profile. “Today’s my birthday.”
Her voice was soft, almost brushing against Qin Yiwan’s ear—and yet, those simple words made Qin Yiwan’s heart skip a beat.
No wonder she refused to sign today.
Who would agree to a divorce on their own birthday? Qin Yiwan regretted choosing today for this.
But there was no turning back now. She had to handle this carefully. If Luo Yunye got upset and leaked their marriage to the public, the rumors alone would be a nightmare.
“I’ll have Butler Lin order a birthday cake now,” she said, reaching for her phone—then paused. Considering how upset Luo Yunye already was, she changed her mind. “No, I’ll go get it myself.”
With that, she rushed out the door, grabbed her car keys, and left.
Qin Yiwan had never bought a birthday cake for anyone before. On her way out, she searched for the most popular bakery and drove straight there, ordering a two-tiered cake. She paid extra to have it delivered to the house.
At checkout, she asked the shop assistant, “Besides cake, what else should I prepare for a birthday?”
“Well, it depends. For elders, maybe tea, wine, or fruit. For friends, a thoughtful gift. If it’s your girlfriend… then a gift and a bouquet of flowers.”
“Got it, thank you.”
Qin Yiwan didn’t know what Luo Yunye liked, so she went to a florist and ordered 99 red roses. Figuring most alphas liked luxury watches, she used the time while the flowers were being arranged to stop by the mall and pick out a six-figure designer timepiece.
Once everything was ready, she drove home. The sun had set, and the city lights were twinkling. When she returned, she found Butler Lin outside setting up lights.
She walked over, puzzled. “Butler Lin, what are you doing?”
“Miss, it’s the young madam’s birthday today. I wanted to prepare a surprise. You… didn’t know?”
Even Butler Lin remembered her birthday—and she didn’t. Worse yet, she tried to file for divorce on her birthday. For the first time, Qin Yiwan felt a twinge of guilt.
“Of course I knew.”
Her expression faltered for a moment, then she turned to grab the massive bouquet from the car. Butler Lin stepped forward to help, but she waved him off.
Watching her carry the roses inside, Butler Lin was moved nearly to tears. Finally, she thought, Miss Qin’s come around. She’s finally realizing how good the young madam is.
After Qin Yiwan had stormed out, Luo Yunye had also left her room. Seeing Butler Lin setting up outside, she didn’t dare assume anything. After the cold shoulder Qin Yiwan gave her earlier, she didn’t want to imagine this was for her.
So she just went to her study, opened her laptop, and continued working on her little robot puppy project.
When she heard a knock, she assumed it was Butler Lin and didn’t look up. “Come in.”
It wasn’t until a shadow fell over her desk and she caught the scent of roses that she looked up—just in time to see Qin Yiwan struggling to hand over a huge bouquet.
“Happy birthday.”
Luo Yunye was stunned as she accepted the flowers, caught completely off guard by the surprise.
Still holding the bouquet, she watched Qin Yiwan remove a small bag from her wrist, pull out a box, open it, and present a watch inside.
“I wasn’t sure what kind of gift you’d like,” she said. “So I picked out a watch. Your hands… are really pretty. I thought this would suit you.”
“Thank you, Jie.”
Luo Yunye couldn’t believe it—flowers, a gift? Was this still Qin Yiwan?
“All right,” Qin Yiwan said breezily. “That counts as one task done, right?”
Maybe she shouldn’t have expected anything… but even so, Luo Yunye was thrilled. She smiled. “Don’t get ahead of yourself, Jie. That’s only half of it. It won’t count until your birthday.”
“No need,” Qin Yiwan turned her face away, her brow tightening slightly. “I don’t celebrate birthdays.”
