- Chapter 35 - A’wan, My A’wan (Part 1)
Luo Yunye took a deep breath, composed herself, and walked over to pick up Aiwan, gently holding it out in front of Qin Yiwan.
“Aiwan is your birthday present. I made it myself. Its eyes can scan and identify most objects, and it can analyze facial expressions to understand human emotions—joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness. It can be your companion, make you laugh like a real puppy, and also talk with you.
Its eyes are also equipped with a camera, so it can act as a mobile recorder. You can bring it along when you go out to play…”
“Thank you.”
Qin Yiwan didn’t reach out to take the dog, nor did she care to listen to any more of its functions. To her, it was just another useless toy. She had no need for it.
Seeing her granddaughter’s indifference, Grandma Qin gently said,
“Yunye put a lot of thought into this gift. It’s the prototype for the company’s first product, and it’s already quite refined. Once it hits the market, it’ll definitely sell well.
Yunye really has a talent for smart devices. She’s going to do great things with them. With her helping out, your mother’s burden will be a lot lighter too.”
“Mm.”
Qin Yiwan responded flatly. She wasn’t interested in smart products. All she knew was that Du Weimin had been pouring money into AI for years without any real success. If Luo Yunye really was as capable as they claimed, and if she were willing to stay on after the divorce, maybe she’d be an asset to the company.
Noticing that Luo Yunye was still standing there, Qin Yiwan gave her a look and finally reached out to take Aiwan.
“Happy birthday, Wanwan!”
Aiwan wagged its tail enthusiastically.
“Thank you.”
Qin Yiwan placed it on the floor. “Go play.”
Aiwan bounced away happily, then stood at a short distance wagging its tail at them.
After Luo Yunye took her seat, the family began dinner. Most of the conversation came from Grandma Qin, while the rest chimed in occasionally with a few words.
After the meal, Grandma Qin brought out a gift she had prepared—a gemstone necklace, designed to match the one she had given Luo Yunye. A couple’s set.
Qin Rushuang handed her a key. “I bought you an apartment in Shuiyue Bay. You’ve stayed in the hotel long enough. You can move in whenever you’re ready.”
Du Weimin gave her a luxury car key. It wasn’t the flashiest of their collection, but it was low-profile enough for everyday use.
Qin Yiwan hadn’t expected them to prepare gifts. She paused for a second, then quietly accepted the keys and thanked them—calm, neither excited nor pleased, as if she were handling a business transaction.
It was the first time in years that Qin Rushuang had ever given her a birthday gift. She hadn’t expected her daughter to be overjoyed, but the total absence of even a smile left her with a bitter taste. She said they could continue on their own and turned upstairs.
Du Weimin followed behind her, and Grandma Qin gently pulled Qin Yiwan aside, taking her hand.
“Are you really planning to divorce Yunye?”
“Mm.”
Qin Yiwan looked over to where Luo Yunye was teaching Aiwan tricks and said softly,
“Grandma, I never planned to get married. Our marriage was… an accident.
I don’t want to force myself to share a space with her, and I don’t want her to feel like she has to bend over backward to make me happy. We’re both still young. Divorcing now is better for both of us.”
“But Yunye doesn’t see it that way. She genuinely likes you—she’s happy to do things for you. Whether she feels hurt depends on how you respond.
If you gave her a chance, if you tried to spend time with her, maybe you’d both discover new sides of yourselves.
People always have to adjust to each other in the beginning, but with time, they grow in sync. Wanwan, you’ve locked yourself away for so long… maybe it’s time to loosen up a little. Think of it as a gamble. Our Qin family is strong—we can afford it, can’t we?”
What she feared wasn’t losing the gamble financially—it was losing emotionally.
To care for someone, to like someone, to love someone… It was like walking a tightrope—demanding, exhausting, and one small misstep could plunge her into an abyss of emotion.
She knew the pain of that abyss all too well. It had taken her years to climb out. She wasn’t about to let anyone push her back in.
“Grandma, I just want to focus on running the hotel right now. I don’t have the energy to manage a relationship.
Instead of wasting her youth on this marriage, it’d be kinder to free her now—let her find a new life.
Please help me persuade her to let go. Let’s end it.”
Seeing her so resolute, so unyielding, Grandma Qin sighed deeply.
“I’m just afraid that one day, when you remember how good she was to you, you’ll regret this decision.”
“I won’t,” Qin Yiwan said firmly. “My heart is like a stone. I won’t regret it.”
After the conversation with her grandmother, Qin Yiwan called Luo Yunyi while making her way outside. When she passed by Luo Yunye, she acted as if she didn’t see her.
Luo Yunye had been crouched down training Aiwan. When she saw her get up to leave, she followed her out and asked, “You’re not staying home tonight?”
“I’ve got plans with Yunyi. Get some rest—I won’t be back tonight.”
Luo Yunye reached out and gently grabbed her arm. “Do you have to break my heart like this?”
Qin Yiwan turned to look at her; her eyes were cold and steady.
“I’m not trying to hurt you. Even if you weren’t here, I would’ve spent today with Yunyi. It makes no difference.”
In other words, her presence didn’t matter.
Luo Yunye slowly let go of her arm. “Got it. Be safe.”
Qin Yiwan didn’t know what she meant by that, but she didn’t ask.
When Luo Yunyi arrived and opened the car door for her, the two of them got in and left together.
Luo Yunye stood watching as the car disappeared into the distance. She exhaled slowly, staring at the night sky, feeling as if no matter what she did, Qin Yiwan remained unmoved.
Aiwan came bounding over. “Luoluo, are you feeling down? Want me to sing you a song? ♪ Luck is coming, bringing joy and love… ♪”
The cheerful, out-of-place tune made Luo Yunye burst out laughing.
She bent down to scoop Aiwan into her arms and patted its head. “You’re the best, Aiwan. Always know how to cheer me up.”
“Of course! Aiwan is the cutest and best smart pet ever!”
She was slowly getting used to Qin Yiwan’s coldness. This time, she wasn’t too hurt. She returned inside and helped Butler Lin tidy up the living room.
“Young Madam, let us handle this.”
“Let me keep myself busy for a bit. I can’t sleep anyway.”
Knowing she was upset, Butler Lin didn’t stop her. After cleaning up, Luo Yunye went to her room, washed up, and got ready for bed—until she suddenly remembered the list of ten promises she and Yiwan had made. One of them was to write a letter.
She got up, went to the study, and began writing:
“Dear A’wan…”
She rewrote it several times, discarding pages until she finally finished the letter. Looking at the words, Luo Yunye gave a bitter smile. So this… is what unrequited love feels like on paper.
She folded the letter, slipped it into an envelope, and went back to bed.
******
In the hazy hours of the night, Luo Yunye felt someone touching her—kissing her. The scent in the air was unmistakable—it was Qin Yiwan’s, rich and intoxicating, like her pheromones.
She must be dreaming, but she didn’t resist. She let it happen.
She felt her hand being guided somewhere. She gave a gentle squeeze—like flipping a switch. A soft moan followed, making her heart itch.
Eyes closed, she leaned into the sounds and kissed wherever she could reach. Wherever her lips landed, it was enough.
In her dream, Qin Yiwan was different—proactive, pulling her hand lower. Luo Yunye, half-asleep but surprisingly confident, found her way. The woman in her arms moved like rippling water, her moans sweet and seductive, caught between pleasure and pain.
She whispered her name.
Luo Yunye didn’t know if it was a dream or real. She didn’t dare respond. She didn’t dare open her eyes—for fear of waking up alone in an empty bed.
Luo Yunye kissed the woman on the cheek and held her close. The woman in her arms slept quietly through the night.
******
When morning came, Luo Yunye’s arm was numb. She stirred and instantly felt something strange—her body ached, and she could tell right away that someone was lying beside her.
From her angle, she couldn’t see the woman’s face clearly. But the heat of their bare skin against each other made last night’s “dream” come rushing back.
She was screwed.
She was in Qin Yiwan’s house… having apparently slept with someone else.
A flood of worst-case scenarios hit her—Qin Yiwan walking in with the whole family to catch her “in the act,” throwing divorce papers at her…
Just then, the woman moved.
Qin Yiwan raised her head, her sleepy eyes curved with a smile. She cupped Luo Yunye’s face and kissed her gently on the lips.
“Good morning, Yunye.”
Luo Yunye’s heart, which had just plummeted, now soared. She could hardly believe it—this woman in her arms was really Qin Yiwan.
Her A’wan.
When she didn’t respond, Qin Yiwan kissed her again and blinked at her. “What’s got you so stunned? ”
“A’wan? ” Luo Yunye asked softly.
“It’s me.” Qin Yiwan lifted her chin with a playful smirk. “Don’t tell me you didn’t know it was me last night.”
“Last night… I thought I was dreaming.”
Qin Yiwan covered her mouth and laughed. “You think of me like that? You actually have dreams like that?”
“I miss you.” Luo Yunye pulled her into her arms and kissed the top of her head. “I’ve missed you so much; I thought I was going crazy. A’wan, my A’wan… I’ve finally waited long enough.”
