6: Your Highness, Are You Shy?
Two harmonious woody fragrances intertwined, blending into a bizarre and eerie beauty amidst the metallic scent of bl00d.
The night was cool as water, filled with the aroma of flowers and the bloody pheromones enveloping the air. Lou Huaiche and Jiang Youbai exchanged a glance, each seeing a trace of haze in the other’s eyes.
Lou Huaiche, as an Omega, was more heavily affected by her heat. Her amber eyes grew deeper, the corners tinged with a rosy flush like clouds at sunset.
Staggering toward Jiang Youbai, she nearly tripped over the corpse on the ground.
Jiang Youbai reacted swiftly, steadying Lou Huaiche by her arms: “Did you bring suppressants?”
Lou Huaiche followed her movement, half-kneeling on the ground as if scorched into delirium. After a few seconds, she finally answered Jiang Youbai’s question.
Her voice was hoarse, lazy, and intoxicating, laced with the restlessness of heat: “I did.”
Jiang Youbai said, “Then use them.”
Lou Huaiche grabbed Jiang Youbai’s sleeve instead, pulling her into an embrace. Instantly, Jiang Youbai found herself holding a soft, fragrant body.
Jiang Youbai stiffened slightly. Lou Huaiche, half-kneeling, clung to her waist, her flushed cheek pressed against Jiang Youbai like a peach swaying gently on a branch.
Lou Huaiche looked up. From Jiang Youbai’s angle, she could see a glimmer of moisture in Lou Huaiche’s clear, crystalline eyes, like translucent amber.
The shimmering light rippled, unveiling a hauntingly demonic beauty. Lou Huaiche seemed like a seductive enchantress emerging under the moonlight, ready to drag the mortal world into her abyss.
Jiang Youbai’s heart fluttered faintly, her throat growing dry.
Lou Huaiche curled her lips into a smile: “Your Highness, you’ve entered your rut too.”
Jiang Youbai replied, “Mhm.”
Lou Huaiche hooked her arms around Jiang Youbai’s shoulders, pressing close as she stood up. Their bodies were nearly flush, each able to hear the other’s pounding heartbeat.
Jiang Youbai was much taller. Lou Huaiche yanked her collar fiercely: “Your Highness, there’s no safe and effective suppressant for Alphas yet. If your rut isn’t resolved, mine won’t be either. Mark me now—temporarily.”
She added, “A temporary mark.”
Jiang Youbai reached out, gently brushing Lou Huaiche’s hair aside and stroking the back of her neck.
Lou Huaiche scoffed, “Your Highness, are you shy?”
She lowered her head, exposing her vulnerable, snow-white neck, taunting, “Too scared to mark me?”
Jiang Youbai smirked coldly and bit down.
The chilly air thickened into a sticky, ambiguous tension. Pressed intimately together, lost in passion, Jiang Youbai’s rationality remained unshaken.
She knew her heart was as steady as a rock, unmoved.
When the marking was complete, Jiang Youbai glanced at Lou Huaiche’s stats panel. Behind the name [Jiang Youbai], a glaring “0” stared back.
Lou Huaiche’s favorability toward her had dropped to zero.
Before the mark, it had been around 10.
Once done, both swiftly stepped back.
Lou Huaiche wore a mocking smile: “Your Highness, you really were shy, weren’t you?”
Jiang Youbai sneered, “Miss Lou, don’t throw stones when you live in a glass house.”
Both had only recently presented as secondary genders—truly, neither had the upper hand.
After a brief delay, Jiang Youbai and Lou Huaiche wordlessly began disposing of the Alpha’s corpse.
The heat-induced impulses faded. Jiang Youbai crouched by the cooling body, removing her cousin’s personal terminal and deftly inputting a password to unlock it.
Lou Huaiche watched: “Your Highness even knows this?”
Jiang Youbai smiled faintly: “Just happened to see it once.”
This was pure nonsense. Personal terminals could be unlocked with an iris scan—no password needed. Most people set passwords for added security.
That Jiang Youbai knew Jiang Wenhan’s terminal password, whether due to personal skill or hidden influence, was no trivial matter.
Unaware of Lou Huaiche’s internal judgment, Jiang Youbai focused on inspecting Jiang Wenhan’s private data.
“An hour ago, he manually disabled his satellite tracking. Based on his communications, he didn’t disclose his whereabouts. Given the tension between the Prime Minister and the Crown Prince, Jiang Wenhan wasn’t invited to the matchmaking banquet arranged for me and Ning Yunze. He likely sneaked in.”
Lou Huaiche nodded.
She already knew this. In every past life, Jiang Wenhan would attempt to assault Ning Yunze around this time, with deviations no longer than half a year.
Lou Huaiche glanced subtly at Jiang Youbai. This Alpha princess, who appeared out of nowhere in her seventh rebirth, hadn’t altered events despite her involvement.
No—perhaps it was precisely because of Jiang Youbai that Jiang Wenhan had acted even more recklessly.
The old emperor refused to die, the Crown Prince remained mediocre, and an alliance between the Prime Minister and the Princess was terrible news for the Crown Prince’s faction.
Lou Huaiche refused to believe this was fate.
If Ning Yunze’s assault was predestined and unchangeable, did that mean her own tragic deaths and suffering were also inevitable? No matter how much she endured, could she never alter her fate?
Jiang Youbai disabled Jiang Wenhan’s terminal tracking, then smashed it with a garden stone.
Both were covered in bl00d, and the corpse was troublesome to handle. Jiang Youbai messaged Chi Ruo: “I killed Jiang Wenhan. Need to dispose of the body and clean up. Cover for me.”
Poor Chi Ruo, who had just lain down, was jolted awake: “You lunatic!”
She wanted to complain, but time was tight. Jiang Youbai hadn’t even explained the situation, likely unable to spare a second.
Gritting her teeth, Chi Ruo replied: “Fine.”
Unbeknownst to her, Jiang Youbai had spent over ten minutes bickering with Lou Huaiche and marking her.
After messaging Chi Ruo, Jiang Youbai dragged Jiang Wenhan’s corpse up: “Let’s dump it in the Lower District.”
Lou Huaiche asked, “What about the scene?”
“Leave it. My friend will handle the cleanup.”
Lou Huaiche didn’t know who Jiang Youbai’s friend was, but given Jiang Youbai’s hidden depths, she trusted the ally was reliable.
She nodded and helped Jiang Youbai lift the corpse.
Under the beautiful moonlight, an Alpha and Omega who had just shared a heat hurriedly carried a body to dispose of it.
Lou Huaiche asked, “How do we get to the Lower District?”
The entire Upper District was under pervasive surveillance and AI tracking. Travel between the Lower and Upper Districts was strictly controlled and searched. Disposing of a body undetected would be extremely difficult.
Jiang Youbai whispered, “I’ve been managing the Upper District’s sanitation and waste disposal for a year.”
Lou Huaiche blinked: “What?”
Jiang Youbai continued softly, “I know the nearest waste disposal pipe to the Prime Minister’s residence. It’s ten meters in length, width, and height. Toss Jiang Wenhan in, and he’ll reach the Lower District in about ten minutes.”
Lou Huaiche was deeply shocked by Jiang Youbai’s ruthlessness.
“Perfect. Let’s go.”
The journey took only minutes. Avoiding surveillance was easier now, especially with fewer cameras near the Prime Minister’s residence. Soon, the body was disposed of.
By the time Jiang Youbai and Lou Huaiche returned, Chi Ruo had already cleaned up.
Jiang Youbai didn’t ask how. Chi Ruo might seem lazy-tempered and arrogant, but she was ruthless and efficient when it mattered.
Chi Ruo led them to a lounge, handing Jiang Youbai a dress: “From Ning Yunze. It won’t fit well. I told the Prime Minister’s wife that Ning Yunze got a cramp while playing in the water, and you rescued him. You needed to change and shower. We have enough time.”
Ning Yunze, an unmated Omega, being saved by an Alpha after nearly drowning and spending time alone together would be scandalous. The Prime Minister’s wife naturally covered for Jiang Youbai’s prolonged absence.
Though interested in the match, the Prime Minister’s family wouldn’t want unsavory rumors either.
Chi Ruo added, “I’ve handled the guards and servants. The scene is clean—no DNA or pheromones will be detected.”
Jiang Youbai said, “Thanks.”
Chi Ruo stared at her blankly: “No problem. But Your Highness, care to explain what happened? Have you finally snapped and started killing to seize the throne?”
“Uh.” Jiang Youbai scratched her chin. “After you left, I wandered the garden and stumbled upon Jiang Wenhan attempting to assault Ning Yunze. Miss Lou Huaiche here slit his throat. I finished him off. Both Omegas went into heat, so I sent Ning Yunze back first to avoid suspicion. Miss Lou and I handled the body, then I went into rut… so I gave her a temporary mark.”
Chi Ruo said, “Clear enough. But why help Lou Huaiche? Who is she? Why was she at the Prime Minister’s residence helping Ning Yunze? Where were the guards? The surveillance?”
Her tone turned sharp: “This is a sensitive time. You’re reckless to meddle in such chaos—your life isn’t tough, but your audacity is.”
As Jiang Youbai wiped bl00d off her face in the bathroom, she averted her gaze guiltily.
