After speaking, Lin Zhaoyue turned and strode upstairs without looking back, heading straight to her room and slamming the door shut with a bang.
Shen Yuan and Aunt Wang were left staring at each other in stunned silence.
“……”
Shen Yuan blinked, glancing at Aunt Wang with a puzzled expression.
Aunt Wang gasped, her face a kaleidoscope of emotions.
The Young Miss’s… private bathroom?
Lin Zhaoyue’s bathroom was strictly off-limits, not just to the household staff but even to her friends.
Is she really going to such lengths just to accommodate Shen Yuan’s… condition?
Aunt Wang’s mind raced with increasingly absurd theories.
As she recalled Lin Zhaoyue’s past humiliations of Shen Yuan, she now detected a different nuance in them.
Tsk, tsk, tsk. She’s playing a deep game.
Aunt Wang remembered the melodramatic short dramas she’d been binge-watching lately. They were practically reenacting those tropes!
The domineering CEO who falls for me, the surrogate wife who flees with his child, the arranged marriage that blossoms into a torturous, passionate love…
Those rich people just love playing these games!
They act cold and ruthless in public, but secretly they’re madly in love behind closed doors.
They humiliate you in front of others, but when no one’s watching, they’d cradle you in their palms.
What’s this called?
This is called romance!
With this realization, Aunt Wang’s gaze toward Shen Yuan shifted.
“Miss Shen, this way, please.”
“…Alright.”
Shen Yuan followed Aunt Wang through a long corridor carpeted with Persian rugs, past several rooms adorned with oil paintings by renowned artists, until they reached a massive, intricately carved mahogany door.
“Miss Shen, this is the Young Miss’s private bathroom,” Aunt Wang said, gently pushing the door open.
Shen Yuan peered inside and was nearly blinded by the opulent, gilded decor.
The first thing that caught her eye was a rectangular bathtub larger than a basketball court, its crystal-clear water steaming gently. Beside it stood a Roman column, carved with lifelike… well, cherubs playfully shooting water guns at each other?
Beside the tub, a row of uniquely designed massage jets lined the wall, while a waterfall showerhead hung from the ceiling. There was even… a water slide?
“This… is?” Shen Yuan pointed at the slide.
Aunt Wang shrugged nonchalantly. “Oh, that’s for the Young Miss to relax. She says sliding down the slide while soaking in the tub improves bl00d circulation.”
Shen Yuan: “……”
She pointed to a massive, capsule-like structure in the corner.
“And what’s that?”
“Oh, that’s the Young Miss’s private sauna. It’s equipped with Himalayan salt bricks, imported Finnish birch wood, and the latest infrared therapy device. They say it detoxifies, enhances beauty, and promotes longevity.”
Aunt Wang rattled off the details like she was listing her most prized possessions.
Shen Yuan was speechless.
She glanced around again and noticed a massive abstract painting hanging on the wall. The figure in the painting vaguely resembled a human—or perhaps a woman.
“This painting…” Shen Yuan felt a strange sense of familiarity.
“Oh, that’s a self-portrait the Young Miss painted. She says looking at her own image while bathing improves her mood.”
Shen Yuan: “……”
Aunt Wang couldn’t help but click her tongue.
“Right? You think these rich people are crazy too, don’t you?”
Shen Yuan instinctively wanted to nod in agreement, but then realized she couldn’t join in on criticizing her own fiancée.
She stood frozen, uncharacteristically at a loss for words.
“Miss Shen, please make yourself comfortable,” Aunt Wang said respectfully. “The Young Miss’s bath products are over there. Feel free to use anything you like.”
“Oh… okay, thank you,” Shen Yuan replied, snapping out of her daze with a slightly flustered tone.
Lin Zhaoyue…
She still remembered Lin Zhaoyue’s tearful accusations in the hospital, calling her a shameless gold digger who had abandoned her for money.
But now, all the evidence pointed to the fact that Lin Zhaoyue had never lacked money.
“Has Lin Zhaoyue… always been this wealthy?” Shen Yuan couldn’t help but ask Aunt Wang.
Aunt Wang smirked and chuckled twice. “Always? Please, the Lin Family has been this rich for over a century, since before she was even born! She’s never known poverty. In a novel, someone with this kind of background would either be the protagonist or the villain.”
Shen Yuan’s realization dawned:
“Ah…”
Her heart sank like a stone.
So it was all a lie…
Everything Lin Zhaoyue had told her—working three jobs a day, farming in the fields at dawn, live-streaming performances in the afternoon, and selling roasted chestnuts at night—it was all fabricated.
This woman wasn’t some pitiful creature she had abandoned; she was a full-fledged heiress!
Shen Yuan slowly lowered her head, her thick hair cascading down like a waterfall, obscuring her eyes and making it impossible to read her expression.
Warm steam enveloped her, blurring her silhouette, leaving only the faint outline of her tightly clenched fists and slightly trembling shoulders visible.
Aunt Wang watched from the side, her heart skipping a beat.
This… this is the prelude to her turning dark!
It seems jealousy of the wealthy has completely twisted Shen Yuan’s features. She’s about to start retaliating against the Young Miss!
Aunt Wang swallowed nervously, quietly backing away two steps, ready to flee at any moment.
But just then, Shen Yuan suddenly let out a low chuckle.
“Heh… heh heh…”
The laughter grew louder and more unrestrained.
Aunt Wang froze.
Oh no, has she really lost her mind…?
As Aunt Wang’s mind raced with panicked thoughts, Shen Yuan suddenly lifted her head. Not a trace of gloom remained on her face; instead, a radiant smile bloomed, as bright and captivating as the warm spring sun.
“Thank you, Aunt Wang. You can go now.”
Shen Yuan said, her cheeks flushed like peach blossoms.
“Oh, oh oh! Then I’ll be off! Perfect timing, perfect timing! It’s getting late, and I need to pick up my grandma from school, ha ha…”
Aunt Wang, without a second thought, quickly slipped out of the room.
Once Aunt Wang was gone, Shen Yuan shed her crumpled hospital gown and carefully stepped into the bathtub.
The warm water enveloped her body, bringing a wave of soothing warmth.
She sighed contentedly, leaned back against the tub’s edge, and couldn’t help but smile.
Ah, this is wonderful.
“So that’s how it is…” Shen Yuan murmured to herself, her tone smug. “I knew it! There’s no way I would ever cheat…”
Though she still couldn’t recall why Lin Zhaoyue had broken up with her, now that she knew she hadn’t been unfaithful, her chances of winning Zhaoyue back had significantly improved.
Maybe they hadn’t even broken up at all—just had a heated argument in a fit of pique!
The thought made Shen Yuan laugh aloud.
Right, I need to get nice and clean so I can serve Zhaoyue better later.
Shen Yuan nodded to herself and began scrubbing vigorously.
Just as she was immersed in her task, a creak echoed through the room.
The bathroom door swung open.
