- Chapter 22 - Hehe, the Battle of the Main Wife, It's Always Been Like This
Shen Yuan’s fingertips glided lightly across the screen, prompting her to unlock it.
Password… What kind of password would Lin Zhaoyue set?
Shen Yuan’s mind raced.
Based on her brief but “penetrating” observation, this woman was spoiled, willful, and quick-tempered, yet sometimes surprisingly… simple? Or perhaps just too lazy to think?
Birthday? Too obvious. Anniversary? Did they even have any memorable dates? Shen Yuan’s amnesiac mind drew a blank. The simplest password… 1234?
Ha! Even the simplest password couldn’t be that easy to guess, right?
A barely audible click. The screen unlocked!
Shen Yuan: ?!
As expected of the woman I set my sights on—truly a case of great wisdom appearing foolish.
She immediately opened the messaging app that had just popped up with a notification and found the contact labeled “Fiancé.”
Clicking on the profile picture revealed a bespectacled man who looked like an insurance salesman. At first glance, he seemed refined and cultured, but the intuition between members of the same kind… no, but Shen Yuan’s keen sense for evil forces told her at a glance that this man was up to no good!
Shen Yuan swiftly noted the person’s WeChat ID, her gaze icy.
I’ll see what kind of trash this person is.
Heh, the battle for the rightful wife has always been like this.
Shen Yuan didn’t delve further into the chat history; now wasn’t the time. She quickly switched back to the home screen, ensuring no traces of unlocking or viewing remained. Then, she carefully placed the phone back on the bedside table, positioning it exactly as before.
Having completed these steps, she picked up her own phone, opened the search bar, and typed in the WeChat ID.
The search result showed: Lu Ren.
…They’re already friends?
What kind of shady characters did my amnesiac self associate with?
Shen Yuan clicked on Lu Ren’s Moments. It was filled with ugly men’s selfies. She quickly backed out and navigated to her chat interface with Lu Ren.
It would have been better if she hadn’t looked. The moment she did, Shen Yuan’s face darkened so fiercely it could have dripped water.
The chat history was sparse, almost entirely messages sent unilaterally by Lu Ren:
“Good morning.”
“Remember to eat on time.”
“Good night, sweet dreams.”
“[Image] Got a new haircut. Handsome, right?”
Such warm, solicitous messages arrived one after another, their tone so gentle and considerate it bordered on obsequious.
When Shen Yuan suddenly saw a photo of excrement, she nearly vomited.
What infuriated her even more was that, in Lin Zhaoyue’s eyes, she was apparently on the same level as this person?!
The more Shen Yuan thought about it, the angrier she became. Fueled by an uncontrollable rage, she sent Lu Ren a message:
“You’re not worthy to be Lin Zhaoyue’s fiancé.”
The message sent successfully.
Moments later, a reply arrived:
“Lu Ren: Miss Shen, I told you last time, Lin Zhaoyue and I have no real relationship. We’re just pretending for appearances!”
Pretending?
Shen Yuan narrowed her eyes slightly, but her expression didn’t soften.
Even pretending was unacceptable.
Lin Zhaoyue should belong to her—body and soul, inside and out. Not even a nominal, false title should be tainted by another’s touch.
That Lu Ren was an eyesore just by existing in Lin Zhaoyue’s world, let alone bearing the title of “fiancé.”
That position could only be hers—in name and in reality.
Her phone suddenly buzzed—a voice call request from Lu Ren.
Shen Yuan frowned and immediately rejected it.
Undeterred, Lu Ren’s voice call requests kept popping up one after another, but she rejected each one with swift precision.
After rejecting the call for the fourth time, the line finally went silent.
But only for a few seconds.
Buzz—buzz—
In the quiet bedroom, another phone vibration suddenly rang out.
It was Lin Zhaoyue’s phone on the bedside table.
Shen Yuan’s heart leaped.
This Lu Ren is relentless! He’s calling Lin Zhaoyue directly!
She instinctively glanced at Lin Zhaoyue, who was sleeping soundly in bed, her breathing even and deep, seemingly undisturbed by the noise.
Shen Yuan exhaled in relief, but a cold glint flashed in her eyes. After a moment’s thought, she picked up Lin Zhaoyue’s phone and answered:
“Hello?”
The person on the other end paused, as if double-checking the number before speaking.
“Shen Yuan? …Are you with Lin Zhaoyue?”
“What else would I be doing?” Shen Yuan chuckled, her voice devoid of warmth. “She’s already asleep.”
After a pause, she added, each word clear and carrying an unmistakable possessiveness:
“…right beside me.”
The weight of those words hung heavy in the air. Lu Ren stammered for a long moment, then picked up on something odd.
“…Are you in a bad mood today?”
Shen Yuan lowered her voice further:
“Because you’re disturbing us. Please don’t contact her again. She doesn’t want to be bothered, especially… by someone insignificant.”
With that, she hung up abruptly.
Then she meticulously deleted the call record, leaving no trace.
The next day, as the morning sun stubbornly pierced through the gap in the heavy curtains, casting a blinding spot of light on the carpet, Lin Zhaoyue slowly stirred from her hazy slumber.
She groggily opened her eyes, her brain taking a few seconds to register her surroundings. A hangover-like discomfort made her groan softly as she rubbed her temples.
Yesterday… so much had happened. The car accident, the amnesia, the hospital, the bathroom scare… and, sleeping in the same bed as Shen Yuan.
The last thought jolted Lin Zhaoyue awake. She sat up abruptly, her eyes darting warily to the other side of the bed.
Empty.
Shen Yuan wasn’t there.
Lin Zhaoyue quickly scanned the entire room. No one was on the sofa either.
Where did she go?
Her gaze fell on the bedsheets, and Lin Zhaoyue paused.
The side where she had slept last night was visibly rumpled, while the other side… though showing signs of use, was arranged with almost deliberate neatness. The pillow was perfectly aligned, and the blanket was folded meticulously.
Most importantly, the area on her side was clearly demarcated, showing no signs of having been disturbed.
Lin Zhaoyue was somewhat surprised.
Did she really not climb over? Lin Zhaoyue murmured to herself. I thought she’d definitely take advantage of me while I was asleep…
System: Host, please don’t project your filthy thoughts onto a White Lotus with amnesia.
Lin Zhaoyue: You don’t understand! I had a nightmare last night! I dreamed she was speaking to someone in an ice-cold tone. The way she acts all cute and lovable around me is just because her lovestruck brain is suppressing her true nature!
System: True nature my ass! How dare you speak about our main heroine like that? Even with amnesia, she’s so positive and cheerful. I won’t allow you to slander her!
Sigh, you’re right.
What malicious intentions could someone with amnesia possibly harbor?
