- After the Paranoid Female Lead Lost Her Memory, She Insisted on Pursuing This Cannon Fodder
- Chapter 3 - "Don't Misunderstand, I'm a Decent Person."
“Family and friends, the patient’s condition remains unstable. She’s prone to delusions, so it’s best to go along with her wishes and avoid upsetting her. Understand?”
The nurse pointed at Lin Zhaoyue.
“Especially you, Miss Lin. The patient seems to have fixated on you as her primary source of comfort. In this state, you must never contradict her, as it could worsen her condition and even lead to more severe memory distortions. Do you understand?”
Xiao Zhang nodded repeatedly.
“Yes, yes, Doctor. We’ll be careful.”
He then glared resentfully at Lin Zhaoyue and Lin Wangba.
“Well, we have no choice but to do as Xiao Yuan says. It’s probably your fault she’s so confused, you brainless idiots. Since she thinks you’re her fiancée, just play along and don’t upset her, okay?”
“O-okay,” Lin Zhaoyue stammered, feeling guilty after having humiliated the female lead twice.
Lin Wangba slicked back his greasy hair.
“Heh, woman. If you beg me, I’ll clear things up and tell her I’m the one engaged to her.”
Lin Zhaoyue finally noticed he was still there.
“I told you this has nothing to do with you. Why haven’t you left yet? Nurse, there are unauthorized personnel disturbing the patient’s rest.”
The nurse glared at Lin Wangba. “This is the ICU. Who let you in here? Get out!”
Lin Wangba remained silent for a moment, then spat out through gritted teeth, “Heh, woman, you’ll regret this.”
With a haughty snort and a sharp turn of his polished shoes, the reformed male lead left as dramatically as he’d arrived.
The nurse turned to Xiao Zhang. “We’ll leave you two alone for a while. Oh, you’re the patient’s friend, right? There’s something important I need to tell you… her memory loss is intermittent.”
“Intermittent?”
“Yes, that means…”
The nurse led Xiao Zhang out, leaving Lin Zhaoyue and Shen Yuan facing each other in the room, the silence thick with awkwardness.
Shen Yuan leaned against the headboard, the gauze on her forehead making her complexion appear even paler, yet softening her usual icy demeanor. She quietly gazed at Lin Zhaoyue and asked softly, “You… you are my fiancée, right?”
“Ah-ha,” Lin Zhaoyue mumbled in response.
“Then why did you say earlier… that you mistook me for someone else?” Shen Yuan’s eyes, like those of a wounded fawn, held a hint of hurt. “Are… we not close?”
Lin Zhaoyue choked on her words. “I…”
What else could I say?!
The Shen Yuan before her was so out of character compared to the one in her memories that if this were a fanfic, it would be flagged for being wildly inconsistent!
She desperately tried to summon her acting skills. “Heh heh, well, you see… um…”
But she quickly realized she couldn’t conjure abilities she didn’t possess.
Just then, Lin Zhaoyue noticed the bowl of white congee the nurse had left earlier still sitting nearby, like a lifeline. “Oh, look! I got you some congee! You must be hungry. Want to have some?”
She hurriedly picked up the bowl, sat beside Shen Yuan, and tried to change the subject.
Shen Yuan watched Lin Zhaoyue’s slightly flustered demeanor, a subtle glint flickering in her eyes before she nodded obediently.
“Okay.”
Lin Zhaoyue breathed a sigh of relief, picked up a spoon, scooped up a spoonful of porridge, carefully blew on it, and brought it to Shen Yuan’s lips. The gesture felt awkward, as Shen Yuan had always been the one serving her.
Shen Yuan opened her mouth slightly and gracefully took the porridge. Her gaze never left Lin Zhaoyue’s face, making Lin Zhaoyue increasingly uncomfortable.
“Oh, by the way,” Shen Yuan said again, “can you tell me about what we used to do? I can’t remember anything.”
What we used to do?
What could we possibly have done? Cold sweat trickled down Lin Zhaoyue’s back.
Nothing but me bullying her, making her life a mess.
Just last night, Lin Zhaoyue had forced Shen Yuan’s maid to help her remove her stockings under Shen Yuan’s venomous gaze. Now, she was being treated like a beloved partner, intimately cared for.
Is this even reasonable?
“Back then…” Lin Zhaoyue set down the bowl, racking her brain. “We… we’ve known each other for a long time…”
“Mmm!” Shen Yuan nodded eagerly, leaning forward with anticipation.
“Yes, a very long time!” Lin Zhaoyue pinched the bridge of her nose, forcing herself to continue the fabrication. “We met at… um… a certain place!”
“Mmm-hmm!” Shen Yuan nodded enthusiastically.
“You… you fell in love with me at first sight!”
The more Lin Zhaoyue spoke, the more absurd it sounded. Yet Shen Yuan’s unwavering belief gave her a strange sense of… elation?
“You thought I was incredibly beautiful and kind, and you insisted on pursuing me!”
System:Â Host, have some shame.
Lin Zhaoyue:Â Shut up!
“Mmm-hmm-hmm!” Shen Yuan nodded vigorously.
Encouraged, Lin Zhaoyue completely let herself go:
“Then we started going on dates all the time. You were so good to me, so considerate! You always listened to me—if I said east, you wouldn’t dare go west; if I told you to chase away the dog, you wouldn’t dare catch the chicken! You even wrote me love letters, calling me your heart, your liver, your precious sweet candy!”
“Mmm-hmm-hmm-hmm!” Shen Yuan nodded even more enthusiastically.
“And then… well…”
Lin Zhaoyue was so dizzy from making up stories that she suddenly jolted awake.
Wait, something’s not right!
Her story was so absurd, so full of holes. Even someone with amnesia should have some doubts, right?
Why was Shen Yuan just going “Mmm-hmm, mmm-hmm”? And her “mmm-hmm” sounded… too compliant, too clingy, didn’t it?
Lin Zhaoyue opened her eyes and was horrified to find Shen Yuan had somehow gotten so close that their faces were practically touching.
Shen Yuan’s cheek was only a few centimeters from hers, those beautiful peach blossom eyes staring intently at her from such close range, their watery depths shimmering with a focus and dependence that made Lin Zhaoyue’s heart race.
Who could have imagined that while Lin Zhaoyue was desperately weaving her lies, Shen Yuan had been blindly “mmm-hmming” and inching closer the entire time?
“!!!”
Lin Zhaoyue froze, then recoiled violently until her back hit the headboard, leaving her nowhere to retreat. She quickly pushed against Shen Yuan’s shoulders.
“…Why are you getting so close for no reason?!”
Shen Yuan blinked.
“Oh, my hearing’s not great. I need to be closer to hear.”
Lin Zhaoyue: “……”
Really?
She glanced down. Shen Yuan’s knee had unconsciously pressed between her legs, and the collar of her hospital gown had slipped, revealing a tiny red mole on her collarbone.
“But… don’t get so close…”
Lin Zhaoyue’s cheeks flushed uncontrollably as she looked up again, meeting Shen Yuan’s eyes at an intimate distance.
Under the sterilization lamp, Shen Yuan’s eyelashes cast delicate shadows, making her gaze seem even deeper and more predatory.
This isn’t…?!
You call this a delicate, innocent heroine?
She’s the epitome of womanhood, the quintessence of femininity.
Before Lin Zhaoyue could react, Shen Yuan suddenly pressed her forehead against the hollow of Lin Zhaoyue’s neck. Warm breath brushed against her collarbone, carrying the scent of cedarwood that even the disinfectant couldn’t mask.
A faint tickle spread across Lin Zhaoyue’s neck as Shen Yuan gently nipped at her most vulnerable flesh, slowly licking it.
“Besides… even though I can’t remember clearly, my body seems very familiar with touching you like this.”
Lin Zhaoyue: “……”
“Wait a minute! Why are you suddenly biting me?!”
“Don’t misunderstand. I’m a respectable person.”
At this, even the cockroaches in the room would have laughed.
Just as Lin Zhaoyue was mentally raging while her body remained stiff as stone—
Suddenly—!
