- Chapter 65 - The Kettle Spirit
Approaching the jewelry counter, Su Zhiyun picked up a delicate collarbone necklace and gestured for Lin Zhaoyue to come closer.
She personally unclasped the necklace, leaned in slightly, and fastened it around Lin Zhaoyue’s neck, her fingertips brushing against the delicate skin along Lin Zhaoyue’s neck. Her warm breath gently brushed against Lin Zhaoyue’s ear.
“It looks beautiful on you,” Su Zhiyun said, stepping back to admire her work.
Lin Zhaoyue felt a slight itch at the back of her neck and was about to raise her hand to scratch it when she sensed an intensely scorching gaze beside her, as if it could burn through the necklace itself.
Shen Yuan: “Waaah!”
Ding! Shen Yuan’s jealousy level increased by 10%.
Passing a popular bubble tea shop, they noticed a long queue. Su Zhiyun’s eyes lit up, and without a word, she pulled both of them into the line.
After finally getting their fruit teas, Su Zhiyun took a sip of hers and then casually offered her cup to Lin Zhaoyue:
“Want to try? This flavor is really unique.”
Lin Zhaoyue glanced at the straw Su Zhiyun had just used, then at the tempting mango fruit tea. She hesitated for a moment, but instinctively leaned in to take a sip.
In a flash, another hand darted out and snatched the cup from Su Zhiyun’s grasp.
“Zhaoyue wants to drink? I’ll buy her a new one! She doesn’t need yours!” Shen Yuan declared, placing the fruit tea on a nearby empty table. Pouting, she turned and squeezed back into the long queue, determined to buy a fresh cup.
Lin Zhaoyue quickly grabbed her arm:
“The line’s too long. Let’s not bother. I don’t want it anymore,” Shen Yuan said, her voice muffled by tears.
Ding! Shen Yuan’s jealousy level increased by 10%.
As they passed the arcade, Lin Zhaoyue glanced at the claw machine. Shen Yuan immediately volunteered, rushing over to operate it. She slammed coins into the machine and frantically jerked the joystick, as if she were DJing.
When her coins ran out, the plush toy remained stubbornly unmoved.
Lin Zhaoyue saw through the scam: the claw was rigged to retract inward, flinging any caught prize back against the glass even when it reached the opening.
“Let me try,” Su Zhiyun said, taking over the machine. After two attempts, she triggered the guaranteed win. The claw descended, precisely gripping a battered-looking kitten keychain, which she tossed to Lin Zhaoyue.
“Here, a gift for you. It reminds me of you.”
Lin Zhaoyue pursed her lips but tucked the keychain into her pocket.
Ding! Shen Yuan’s jealousy level increased by 10%.
As they continued strolling, Su Zhiyun noticed something in a shop window display. She leaned close to Lin Zhaoyue’s ear and whispered something.
Lin Zhaoyue froze for a moment, then burst into laughter, slapping Su Zhiyun’s arm.
The two exchanged amused glances.

Throughout the journey, Lin Zhaoyue’s mind was filled with incessant “ding-ding-ding” notifications.
Beside her, a kettle whistled incessantly.
The more she heard, the more her head ached.
Nutritional supplements… the price of nutritional supplements has increased again…
Lin Zhaoyue: Turn off these notifications!
System: Are you sure? Even though it’s called the “Jealousy Value,” maybe…
Lin Zhaoyue: Turn them off!
System: Alright.
The quiet had returned.
The sky gradually darkened.
The seaside sky transitioned from a bright azure to a gentle peach-pink, finally deepening into a profound navy blue.
Streetlights flickered on one by one, casting a hazy glow over the coastal city.
Lin Zhaoyue had been shopping all afternoon, her feet practically burning from the friction.
Never wearing flip-flops for shopping again, she vowed.
Su Zhiyun’s enthusiasm remained undiminished, still engrossed in browsing the quaint shops lining the streets. Shen Yuan, though her sweet smile remained fixed, gripped Lin Zhaoyue’s arm tighter and tighter.
“It’s getting dark,” Shen Yuan finally said softly, turning to Lin Zhaoyue. “We must be tired after walking all day. How about we head back to the hotel for dinner? The restaurant there is amazing!”
Back to the hotel…
Lin Zhaoyue’s heart stirred. With night falling, it was indeed time to return. The surveillance plan needed to be put into motion.
But… glancing at the clingy, possessive Shen Yuan beside her, and then thinking of her own plans…
She sighed inwardly, knowing some things needed to be said.
“Mm, it’s time to head back,” Lin Zhaoyue nodded, slowing her pace.
She exchanged a glance with Su Zhiyun, nodded, and then pulled Shen Yuan to a relatively secluded corner by the roadside.
Su Zhiyun clearly knew what she was about to say and didn’t follow them. Instead, she stood her ground, arms crossed, watching them with amusement.
When Lin Zhaoyue pulled Shen Yuan aside, Shen Yuan’s heart began to race, and a blush crept across her cheeks.
Zhaoyue… what is she going to do? Is she going to tell me a secret? Or…
Her mind had already begun playing out an eight-hundred-episode romantic drama.
Lin Zhaoyue looked into Shen Yuan’s eyes, which were filled with pink bubbles, and suddenly found it difficult to speak.
Feeling guilty, she averted her gaze and cleared her throat.
“Um… Shen Yuan…”
“Yes, yes!”
“Tonight…”
Lin Zhaoyue was terribly embarrassed, but she forced herself to continue.
“Tonight, you… you should sleep somewhere else.”
Shen Yuan: “…Huh?”
The smile on her face froze instantly.
Lin Zhaoyue avoided looking at Shen Yuan’s shocked expression and pressed on:
“I… I have some things to take care of tonight. I want to stay in this hotel room with Su Zhiyun…”
This hotel required keycard access for entry and exit.
Yesterday, Shen Yuan had smoothly obtained an extra keycard for her.
But suites like theirs were limited to two occupants, allowing only two keycards. Zhang Wei was sharing a room with a colleague…
This meant that if she and Su Zhiyun went in to install surveillance equipment—and she didn’t know how long it would take—Shen Yuan would have to stay outside all night.
It was unavoidable.
Lin Zhaoyue added a reason that sounded like a flimsy excuse:
“I have some… things I need to discuss with her.”
A deathly silence fell.
The color drained from Shen Yuan’s face at a visible rate. Her peach blossom eyes, once brimming with light, now seemed veiled in a layer of gray.
She stared blankly at Lin Zhaoyue, as if wanting to speak but unable to utter a sound.
After several seconds, a film of moisture rapidly gathered in those beautiful eyes. Overwhelmed by the shock, tears welled up without warning.
“Waaah—!!!”
