- Chapter 26 - Is Lin Bie Really That Irresistible?
As soon as Shan Yi returned to the villa, she completely lost control.
Impossible. There was no way Lin Bie and Leng Jinxi weren’t in the utility room. Her people had clearly seen the two of them go in. How could they both just vanish?
How could that be possible?
Seated on the sofa, Shan Yi grabbed the vase next to her and hurled it to the floor. The violent crash that followed was punctuated by a scream of rage so fierce it seemed to tear her throat. The housekeeper and servants rushed over, but froze in place at the sight of her madness.
Normally, Miss Shan’s tantrums were verbal—she’d find some excuse to lash out at them. But never had she flown into a rage this extreme. The butler, stepping aside to avoid the shards that could cause injury, nervously tried to speak.
“Miss…”
“Get out!” Shan Yi roared. “All of you, get out! Useless trash, every last one of you! I said GET OUT!”
Another vase flew through the air and smashed violently near a maid, shards nearly slicing her leg. Terrified, everyone scrambled out of the room, slamming the door shut behind them. The next vase slammed against the closed door with a thunderous crash.
Shan Yi was trembling with rage, eyes bloodshot as she looked at the wreckage around her.
There was no way Lin Bie and Leng Jinxi weren’t in there. Someone had to have helped them escape.
Her eyes narrowed with fury, her entire face contorted with rage.
Xie Yushu. It had to be her!
That stifled groan she’d heard in the utility room—it was definitely Lin Bie. She was so close to catching them red-handed, but Xie Yushu had stepped in and redirected all suspicion onto herself.
And yet—Xie Yushu was the director. The one with the most authority on set. Shan Yi’s protests and accusations didn’t stop anything—in fact, everyone just looked at her like she was the one acting strange.
The memory of those confused stares made Shan Yi feel like she was burning from the inside out.
Why? Why was everyone helping them? Even the director, who’d only known them for a few days, was protecting them.
Did Lin Bie really have that much charm? Enough to be endlessly forgiven no matter what kind of trash she was?
Jealousy turned Shan Yi’s eyes crimson.
Why was it so easy for Lin Bie to be liked? Why did Bei Ning still love her, even after everything she’d done? Why did Shan Yi, who had been by Bei Ning’s side for years, still fall short compared to Lin Bie’s few months?
She tore through the room, smashing everything within reach. When nothing was left intact, Shan Yi collapsed to the floor, panting heavily. The hatred in her eyes did not fade in the slightest.
She would never let this go. She refused to let Lin Bie live happily, as if nothing had ever happened.
Shan Yi pulled out her phone, ready to contact the people she’d planted in the production crew, to plan her next move. But the moment she unlocked it, she saw a string of missed calls—dozens, all from her agent.
Her heart skipped. Frowning, she quickly dialed back.
“Shan Yi! Look at the mess you’ve made! What the hell is going on with those trending topics?! Who the hell did you piss off?!” her agent exploded the moment the call connected.
“What trending topics? What happened?” Shan Yi asked, stunned.
“You really don’t know? The internet’s blowing up! I didn’t know you were hiding so much from me! Our company’s done with you. We’ve already sent you a termination and compensation notice. Good luck cleaning up this mess!”
Her agent hung up before she could say another word. Shan Yi frantically called back, only to find she’d already been blocked.
Panic surged as she rushed onto Weibo to see what was happening. She hadn’t even searched before the app’s homepage showed her name—highlighted in red—attached to multiple trending tags, nearly an entire column:
【#ShanYiWithdrawFromEntertainmentDueToImmorality】
【#ShanYiOwesEmployeesWages】
【#ShanYiTaxEvasion】
Compared to those, the trending topics accusing her of being a diva seemed almost tame.
The moment she saw her name plastered across the top of the feed, her bl00d ran cold. Fingers trembling, she tapped on the darkest red headline:
“According to reports, Shan Yi’s company failed to pay employee wages in 20XX. One employee, after numerous failed attempts to collect what was owed, committed suicide by jumping into a river. The family’s appeals for justice have gone unanswered for years. During an investigation, a reporter friend of ours also uncovered evidence of Shan Yi’s tax evasion, which has now been formally reported. Authorities are currently reviewing the case.”
“Another report claims Shan Yi slapped a staff member repeatedly on set after a scene required multiple takes. The injured worker had to seek medical attention. While the incident was initially covered up, the victim was later bullied into quitting and reportedly developed depression. People like her don’t belong in this industry.”
“A few days ago, I asked a paparazzi in Hengdian to snap some pics of my favorite star. Coincidentally, they were working on the same drama as Shan Yi. This is the video they sent me. Judge for yourselves.”
The attached clip showed the confrontation between Lin Bie and Shan Yi, following an earlier incident where Shan Yi had maliciously targeted Leng Jinxi. Only the second half of the encounter was included—Shan Yi arrogantly berating Lin Bie, followed by Lin Bie calmly and logically shutting her down. Her voice was clear and firm, cutting through even the shaky camera footage.
“Wow, Shan Yi really had us fooled. I used to think she was like her characters—sweet and cheerful.”
“I was trembling when I saw that. If she’s so wealthy, why is she withholding her employees’ wages? Don’t workers deserve to live with dignity too? Get out of here already!”
“My heart breaks for the staff member she slapped. Monsters like this don’t deserve a second chance.”
“That girl in the crew vest who stood up to her? So badass. Is she a staff member?”
The blogger replied:
“She’s a small-time actress in the production crew. I’m a Leng Jinxi fan. The first half of the video showed Shan Yi forcing my girl to soak in icy water all afternoon. This girl pulled her out and stood up to Shan Yi for her. I’m seriously grateful to her. ❤️”
The fan’s reply instantly set the Leng Jinxi fandom ablaze. They were already upset that their newly crowned Best Actress had taken a drama role to begin with, but they let it go, thinking she simply enjoyed the script. Now it turned out she’d been bullied on set?
If Leng Jinxi—an award-winning actress—could be treated like this, what about the nameless actors and crew?
Public outrage exploded. What had started as a one-sided scandal quickly turned into a tsunami. Netizens began bombarding Shan Yi’s family company’s social media, demanding accountability. Within a single morning, the Shan Group’s stock was plunging.
Staring at her phone, bombarded by DMs and a torrent of curses, Shan Yi stood frozen. Her hands were shaking as she gripped the device, knees giving out as she fell back onto the sofa. Her pupils quivered in disbelief.
Lin Bie. It had to be Lin Bie.
She was behind this. These things had already been buried, how could they resurface all at once?
She was retaliating—retaliating for what happened today.
Shan Yi’s face twisted with hatred, her eyes bl00d-red.
None of this felt like her own fault. To her, it was all Lin Bie’s doing—she was the one who had destroyed everything Shan Yi had built in the entertainment world.
Even now, Shan Yi saw no wrong in her actions. All she saw was Lin Bie dragging these matters back into the spotlight, forcing her to be publicly condemned all over again.
“No. I won’t let her win. That piece of trash will never beat me…” Her hands trembled as she clutched her phone. “That’s right. I still have my sister. I still have the Shan family! What Lin Bie’s done amounts to a public attack on the Shan-Lin partnership. The Shan family won’t let her off!”
Grasping this new hope, Shan Yi’s movements grew urgent, deranged even. In her mind, she pictured Lin Bie kneeling before her, begging for forgiveness. She laughed aloud, dialing her sister’s number again and again until it finally connected. Her voice trembled with excitement.
“Jiejie…”
“Shan Yi. What the hell did you do?” Shan Ningbai’s voice came cold and furious—like ice water poured over her burning hope.
“Why did you go after Lin Bie and Leng Jinxi? I thought you were friends. Do you know what happened to the Shan family’s stock? You’ve ruined everything.”
Shan Ningbai had to pause several times to collect herself, her voice icier than Shan Yi had ever heard.
“What are you saying?! You’d rather believe those gossip accounts than me?” Shan Yi cried, collapsing further into the sofa. Her voice cracked from rage and betrayal.
“Even you don’t believe me?! You’re my own sister! What did Lin Bie do to make you turn against me too? Why is everyone blaming me?!”
Shan Ningbai massaged her aching temples as her sister’s screams blasted through the receiver. Staring at the plummeting stock chart on her laptop, her gaze was sharp enough to cut glass.
“Shan Yi, how long do you plan to keep lying? I don’t know what Lin Bie’d done, but I do know what you did. Lin Qingsi sent me everything. You know what I’m talking about.”
Shan Yi fell silent.
Right. She’d forgotten—Lin Bie had recorded all their conversations. Lin Qingsi must have sent those recordings. What else could she have sent?
“I didn’t know the money you asked from me to ‘start a company’ would turn into this mess. I’ve arranged for your formal withdrawal from the industry. You also have a flight booked for tonight. You’re leaving the country.”
“Leaving? Why?! I didn’t do anything wrong!” Shan Yi howled, gritting her teeth in outrage.
“This was all Lin Bie’s doing! She’s the one who deserves to be ruined! Why is it me?!”
Her cries echoed in the empty living room, tears and snot streaming down her face. But her sister—who had always doted on her and indulged her every whim—remained silent.
When she finally spoke, her voice carried weariness and frustration.
“Shan Yi, you’re going whether you want to or not. Father’s condition is critical. Only Shan Ze and I can inherit the board position. The Lin family partnership was my doing, and now they’ve expressed their deep disappointment. Do you know how much more leverage Shan Ze has now? Just think of it as helping your sister. Stop making a scene.”
Her tone was tightly controlled, suppressing her fury. Even in the meeting just now, people had already started using Shan Yi’s scandal to undermine her. She had no patience left.
“Be good. The internet forgets quickly. When this storm passes, I’ll bring you back. Then you can do whatever you want again—”
beep… beep… beep…
Shan Yi hung up.
Face streaked with tears, her voice hoarse, she slumped onto the sofa, exhausted. Chaos surrounded her.
Her sister’s words echoed in her mind.
“After a while, I’ll bring you back.”
How long was “a while”? A month? A year? Forever?
So her sister’s love had only ever been based on her lack of threat. Based on her tiny portion of the Shan family shares. Shan Yi burst into laughter, her voice cracked and hollow.
Lin Bie. Now even my sister has chosen your side. Amazing. You’ve taken everything from me—my love, my sister, my world.
You win.
But why?
Why does a piece of trash like you get to live better than me? Why?!
She clenched her teeth so hard her lips bled. Then, suddenly, she started laughing again—a twisted, hateful sound filled with the fury of someone ready to burn everything down.
If Lin Bie hadn’t stolen the person she loved, she wouldn’t hate her so much. If Lin Bie hadn’t taken Bei Ning for granted, she wouldn’t have targeted Leng Jinxi.
It was all Lin Bie’s fault.
You want to destroy me? I won’t let you win that easily. I’ll drag you down with me—even if it kills me.
With trembling hands, Shan Yi dialed a number.
