After the Scumbag Alpha Heard her Inner Thoughts (GL) - Chapter 1
Early spring brought constant rain. A light drizzle tapped gently outside, and a soft mist hung in the air.
At 10 a.m., in the VIP ward of Central City General Hospital, a woman lay quietly in bed. Her short, dark blue hair fanned out across the pillow, and her long, dark lashes trembled slightly—she looked just like a sleeping beauty.
“…When will she wake up?”
“She’s in her susceptibility period…”
“Her glands…”
“The anesthesia is wearing off. She should wake up soon.”
The voices were distant and dreamlike, faint and unclear, as if drifting in from another world.
On the bed, the woman’s brows furrowed slightly. Her pale lips moved as she stirred. Slowly, Chu Muqing opened her eyes and glanced around.
A white ceiling. A bouquet of fresh flowers beside the bed. The faint scent of disinfectant lingered in the air.
Her hazy thoughts began to clear. This susceptibility episode had come on so suddenly, without warning. She hadn’t been prepared at all and had collapsed at the company. Lifting a hand to her forehead, Chu Muqing grew concerned about what might be happening outside. “Xu Chengke,” she called.
The moment she spoke, a sharp pain shot through her throat. Chu Muqing winced, frowning with frustration, and stopped talking.
The door opened softly, and Xu Chengke stepped in quietly. Chu Muqing tilted her head to look at him, her expression calm and distant.
Xu Chengke was visibly relieved. “Boss, you’re finally awake!”
He quickly walked over to help her sit up and adjusted the pillows behind her back. Then he turned around and handed her a glass of water.
“How are you feeling? Are you in any pain? You really scared me this time.”
Chu Muqing took the glass and sipped some water to ease her throat. Her voice was low but steady: “I’m fine.”
The area around the gland on the back of her neck was flushed red. As the anesthesia wore off, a dull ache began to spread from the center, but it was manageable.
“Any issues at the company?”
“No,” Xu Chengke replied. “They know you’re in your susceptibility period, so no one suspected anything. Nothing’s been tampered with.”
Chu Muqing frowned slightly. With both the susceptibility episode and her surgery, she’d been absent from the company for a week. Under normal circumstances, things wouldn’t be this quiet.
Was she just overthinking?
“You’re sure?” she asked, her gaze sweeping over to her assistant. Her tone was calm, but the pressure in the room instantly rose, suffocating and intense.
That was the presence of an S-Class Alpha—even as a Beta, Xu Chengke couldn’t ignore the effect of her pheromones.
Startled, he suddenly remembered something. “Right, there’s one thing I forgot to mention. The old man arranged a marriage for you. It’s with the Su family.”
“The Su family?” Chu Muqing asked.
“Su Wanqing. She’s an S-Class Omega. Your compatibility is 95%.”
Chu Muqing vaguely remembered the Su family. Years ago, the two families had arranged a childhood engagement. But nowadays, with freedom in relationships, no one had brought up marriage in a long time.
“Why so suddenly?” she asked.
Back then, both families were equally matched. But now, the Chu family had grown rapidly, while the Su family had stayed stagnant—the gap between them had only widened.
Most had assumed the engagement was off. But now, with medical reports showing a 95% pheromone match between Chu Muqing and Su Wanqing, things had changed.
For the past three years, no Omega had reached even 30% compatibility with Chu Muqing. The higher the match, the more likely successful conception would be—and the stronger the child’s potential.
That aside, Alpha susceptibility periods required Omega pheromones to ease symptoms, and S-Class Alphas were especially sensitive to this.
“It’s not all that sudden,” Xu Chengke explained. “The old man’s worried about your health… and honestly, he just wants you to settle down.”
The Chu family had few heirs, and Alpha numbers were low. In Chu Muqing’s generation, she was the only S-Class Alpha—and she had gland issues.
The old man didn’t care about status. As long as the Omega was compatible, they could enter the Chu family.
“Has the engagement been made public yet?” she asked.
“Not yet,” he replied.
“Then investigate the Su family. Especially Su Wanqing.”
Everything was happening too conveniently—issues at the company, her sudden hospitalization, and now an Omega with extremely high compatibility showing up out of nowhere?
Almost like it was planned.
As if he’d anticipated this, Xu Chengke handed her a few documents.
“While you were in surgery, I looked into Miss Su’s medical report. Her pheromone level is currently listed as A-Class, but the 95% compatibility result is real. Things were rushed, so this is all I’ve found so far.”
“Currently?” Chu Muqing asked, scanning the documents quickly.
“Before this, the old man had already looked into all eligible Omegas. At the time, Su Wanqing’s report listed her as a Beta, so she was excluded.”
“But just recently, she underwent a second differentiation—into an Omega. The former hospital director owed the old man a favor, so whenever a new Omega appears, they run a compatibility test with you. No one expected such a perfect match…”
“The hospital said she’s newly differentiated, so her level isn’t stable yet. For now, she’s classified as A-Class.”
Chu Muqing nodded slightly, understanding. “So once she stabilizes, is it possible her compatibility score will change? Or that she might… redifferentiate again?”
Xu Chengke: “……”
“In theory, no. Once it stabilizes, the compatibility usually increases, and her gender won’t change again,” Xu Chengke explained. “Just to be safe, I asked the director. He gave me the same answer.”
“……”
Chu Muqing fell silent.
Xu Chengke sighed and asked gently, “President Chu… you don’t want this arranged marriage, do you?”
Chu Muqing lifted her eyes and shot him a sharp look. “What do you think?”
“The doctor said… your glands won’t make it to your next susceptibility period.” Xu Chengke’s tone grew serious. This situation felt like a deadlock—there was no way out. Chu Muqing’s gland issues were practically a death sentence. “If there’s still no Omega compatible with you by then, you might…”
He couldn’t bring himself to finish the sentence.
Chu Muqing thought back to the recent episode. Even after two doses of high-strength inhibitors, they had no effect. Her susceptibility period came a month early. At first, her mood had become violently unstable—she lost control and smashed everything in the lounge. Then her pheromones began leaking uncontrollably until she was completely drained.
The scent had become so strong she couldn’t even open her eyes. Thankfully, Xu Chengke, being a Beta, was unaffected. He had rushed her to the hospital and smoothed things over at the company, minimizing the damage.
“What did the old man offer them?” Chu Muqing asked, lips tight with displeasure.
“Five percent of the Chu family’s shares—as a bride price,” Xu Chengke answered.
Chu Muqing scoffed coldly. “Five percent? The Su family really has the nerve to ask for that much.”
“Bring me my laptop.”
“And discharge me tomorrow.”
“Boss, the doctor said you can’t leave yet. They still need to monitor your pheromones…”
Chu Muqing slowly raised her eyelids to look at her overly talkative assistant.
Xu Chengke instantly shut up. “Understood. I’ll speak with the doctor right away.”
Even in her weakened state, Chu Muqing’s presence was still intimidating. Xu Chengke had only dared speak this much because he was still haunted by the memory of finding her unconscious in that destroyed room.
The hospital room quieted again. Leaning back against the pillows, Chu Muqing gazed out the window. The post-rain sunlight spilled into the room, soft beams catching the air and scattering in visible rays—the Tyndall effect.
She stared for a moment, letting her mind go blank for the first time in a while.
Xu Chengke left to speak with the doctor about discharge procedures and ordered lunch on the way.
Once that was handled, he went down to the car to grab Chu Muqing’s laptop. As he returned to the hospital, he caught a fleeting glimpse of someone outside the main entrance—a figure that looked exactly like Gu Heng, the CEO of the Gu family. The man disappeared behind the hospital’s glass revolving door before Xu could confirm it.
Holding the laptop, Xu Chengke quickened his pace.
When he got back to the ward and opened the door, Chu Muqing was standing by the window, her phone set aside. It looked like she had just finished a call.
“Your laptop,” Xu said, placing it on the bedside table before stepping to the side.
“The Lu family called just now,” she said.
“What did they say?”
“Told me to take care of my health. They’ve already found out I was hospitalized.”
That reminded Xu Chengke of the person he saw earlier. “I think I just saw CEO Gu at the hospital entrance.”
“If the Lu family knows, it’s only a matter of time before the Gu family finds out too,” Chu Muqing said calmly. Her condition was bound to be exposed eventually.
“Lunch is here. You should eat something.” Xu stepped out of the room to pick up the delivery near the stairwell.
In the stairwell, a few nurses were chatting, gossiping out of boredom. In the enclosed space, their voices carried easily.
“The director searched for so long, and it turned out to be the Su family—almost bankrupt. Su Wanqing’s luck is insane.”
“I’m an Omega too. I secretly tested over ten times and never got above 10% compatibility.”
“I tested twice and only got 15%. Her pheromones are almost impossible to match—I even wondered if she has a disorder.”
“Not everyone’s lucky enough to marry into a wealthy family.”
“It’s not just the wealth—have you seen Chu Muqing? She’s stunning. Even lying there, she looked like a sleeping beauty. Gorgeous.”
“Totally. I even snuck a photo.”
“What a shame. She has to marry that bumpkin from the Su family. It’s just unfair. Heaven has no eyes…”
Their voices grew louder, and the tone more regretful.
Xu Chengke heard every word.
But how did people already know about the engagement? It had just been decided. Nothing had been officially announced yet.
Frowning, he held the lunch in one hand while using the other to search online. To his surprise, the source of the leak was none other than the old man himself. No wonder the news had spread so fast.
What was going on? The old man had clearly said not to announce anything yet—so why did it go public so suddenly?
Stuffing his phone back into his pocket, Xu Chengke rushed back upstairs to the ward.
He unfolded the small dining table, carefully laid out the lunch—porridge and greens—and placed each dish in front of her.
Then, standing to the side, he resumed searching his phone and even sent a message to the old man’s assistant.
“You’ve got something on your mind?” Chu Muqing asked, noticing his distracted behavior. He hadn’t let go of his phone since coming in—definitely hiding something.
“Uh… the old man officially announced your engagement,” Xu said awkwardly.
Chu Muqing immediately tossed down her chopsticks. “He didn’t even ask me? What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I haven’t even met that Su girl…”
And just like that, it all clicked into place—the Gu family must have heard about the engagement, which was why they suddenly showed up.
“This seems to be the Su family’s idea,” Xu said. “They pushed for the marriage to happen quickly. Looks like they just want to use the Chu family’s status. It doesn’t seem related to the Gu family at all.”
“Tell them—fine, I’ll go through with the engagement. But there won’t be a wedding ceremony. After marriage, I’ll only protect Su Wanqing’s interests. No one else in the Su family gets anything.”
“If they want to use our power, they better prove they’re worth it.”
The Gu family was watching her like a hawk, and her health was getting worse by the day. There were too many interests tangled up in this marriage—for now, she couldn’t afford to refuse.
Her glandular issue needed to be resolved. If not, she’d die before the Chu family ever got the chance to face off with the Gu family. By then, the family would be completely at their mercy.
“Arrange a time to bring her to Banguishan Villa. We’ll announce the marriage publicly.”
“That’s it?” Xu Chengke asked. He couldn’t help thinking the whole thing felt way too rushed.
“What, you expect me to fall in love with someone who schemed her way into marrying me for power?”
A sharp glint flashed in Chu Muqing’s fox-like eyes. She wants to marry into the Chu family? Let’s see how well she can handle it. Being Mrs. Chu isn’t so easy.
Xu Chengke pursed his lips, thinking to himself, No one’s expecting you to fall in love with anyone. Honestly, just imagining that is terrifying enough…
