After the Scumbag Alpha Heard her Inner Thoughts (GL) - Chapter 15
She was no one else—she was my wife.
When Su Wanqing heard this, her entire body stiffened and her heart skipped a beat. She didn’t know whether Chu Muqing was just putting on an act or if he truly meant it. Her gaze, beyond her control, turned toward him.
Chu Muqing’s expression remained calm, as if he saw nothing wrong with what he had said.
It was Sun Xiaoxiao, however, who panicked for a moment. It seemed Chu Muqing’s feelings for Su Wanqing weren’t as simple as she had thought. Could it be that their relationship was real?
Losing Yi Ren’s order wasn’t important, but angering Chu Muqing was never her goal. She still wanted to…
“Chu Muqing, that’s not what I meant,” Sun Xiaoxiao hurried to explain.
“Then what do you mean?” Chu Muqing countered, his tone indifferent.
“I…”
“You keep calling her a mere ‘medicine guide,’ Miss Su. Haven’t you heard that we are already married?” Chu Muqing stared at her, his voice sharp.
Sun Xiaoxiao was left speechless.
“Apologize to my wife—the Miss Su you mentioned—and I will pretend today never happened,” Chu Muqing said coldly.
Sun Xiaoxiao slapped the table and stood up, her face full of disbelief. “You want me to apologize to her?”
“I don’t like repeating myself,” Chu Muqing replied.
“Impossible.”
Sun Xiaoxiao looked down on Su Wanqing and would never apologize. Her temper flaring, she stormed out of the private room. One of her companions, meek and hesitant, spoke up.
“President Chu, Xiaoxiao has been abroad for too long. I apologize on her behalf—and also to Madam Chu. She was spoiled from a young age. I’ll go check on her.”
Chu Muqing said nothing, his expression indifferent, clearly unconcerned with everything that had happened.
Lu Qinghe, standing silently nearby, felt regret. The Su family’s status was low, and she had originally intended for Su Wanqing to use this opportunity to make some connections. She hadn’t expected things to backfire.
The large room fell into an awkward silence. No one dared to speak, the oppressive atmosphere making everyone tremble.
Lu Qinghe finally broke the silence. “We’ve nearly finished eating. President Cheng mentioned there’s a spa downstairs. Why don’t we go have a look?”
At her suggestion, those with any sense quickly linked arms and hurried out, afraid that lingering even a second longer might cause trouble.
Su Wanqing thought they genuinely planned to go to the spa. She was about to follow Lu Qinghe when she passed by Chu Muqing. Chu Muqing glanced at the two of them.
Understanding Chu Muqing’s signal immediately, Lu Qinghe tugged at Su Wanqing’s sleeve and said, “Qingqing, it seems you and Muqing still have things to talk about. Stay here with him, and you can join us later.”
Su Wanqing glanced at the man sitting there. Indeed, she had questions she needed to ask Chu Muqing—like what exactly he was doing today, and why he was interfering with her work.
After Lu Qinghe left, Chu Muqing casually lifted his wine glass and took a sip. “Ask whatever you want. No one here dares to listen in.”
This was Cheng Zhuo’s territory, built with Muqing’s investment; naturally, no one would dare to eavesdrop.
“Huafeng is just a small company. Why involve it in this?” Su Wanqing asked.
“You know it’s small. Wouldn’t it be better if I switched you to a bigger one?” Chu Muqing replied lazily.
“You have…”
She swallowed the second half of her sentence, silencing herself manually. She didn’t understand why Chu Muqing insisted on dragging her into this mess. She had chosen Huafeng precisely because she wanted to stay far away from them.
Chu Muqing, of course, knew what she wanted to say. But he didn’t care in the slightest. He leaned back, dragging his chair out a bit, crossed his legs, and looked up at Su Wanqing.
Though seated, his imposing aura did not diminish in the slightest.
“You think being the heir to the Chu family is easy?” he asked slowly. “They don’t dare move against me directly, but guess who they’ll target to restrain me—or to vent their anger?”
“And what makes you think you can work peacefully at Huafeng? If they found out who you are, do you think any of your achievements would remain untainted?”
Chu Muqing laid it all out, word by word, without a hint of impatience or mockery.
Su Wanqing ran his words through her mind. Though furious that he had meddled in her work without permission, she had to admit—Chu Muqing was right. She didn’t want to get involved in the corporate battles, but her identity simply wouldn’t allow her to escape.
From the moment the two of them entered into an arranged marriage, their interests had been bound together.
“Then you… should have at least told me in advance,” Su Wanqing said, her voice growing quieter toward the end.
“You think I have nothing better to do?” Chu Muqing replied coldly.
“………”
He was still the same—sharp-tongued as ever. Had no one ever taught him a lesson?
“I’m going to find Sister Qinghe,” she said, trying to leave. Though it was true, still—shouldn’t work matters be discussed first?
Su Wanqing felt it was impossible to reason with Chu Muqing. Since things had already reached this point, she could only take it one step at a time.
In the now-empty private room, Chu Muqing finished the wine in his glass, staring blankly at the empty seat across from him.
When Xu Chengke entered the room, he was startled to find that Chu Muqing’s figure seemed to carry a trace of loneliness.
“President Chu, everything has been arranged,” Xu Chengke reported.
“Good,” Chu Muqing responded.
“We’ve also confirmed that Lu Chen has been in contact with Chu Shengtian.”
“Mm,” Chu Muqing replied.
It was the result he had already anticipated.
“Then why didn’t you tell Madam?” Xu Chengke hesitated before asking. “Were you worried it would hurt her?”
Chu Muqing lifted his eyes to glance at him. Since when had he ever explained his actions to anyone?
“Tomorrow, make arrangements for her to adapt to the new position as quickly as possible.”
“Understood. Also, Gu Heng has recently been in contact with the Old Master. We’re not sure why—could it be related to what happened back then?”
“I’ve suspected as much,” Chu Muqing said calmly. “For now, we move step by step. There’s no rush to uncover the truth of the past. Now that Su Wanqing is here, the urgency is no longer mine.”
“Understood.”
Chu Muqing had once accelerated his plans because of his health. Now that Su Wanqing was by his side, everything could proceed at a steadier pace.
After attending an unexpected banquet, Su Wanqing’s entire career path had changed dramatically. She was forced to accept the new reality.
Xu Chengke worked quickly. Within three days, he had fully arranged her new role. Meticulous as always, he not only set up her position but also found someone to mentor her.
Su Wanqing adapted quickly, diving into research on new design drafts.
She had originally thought that Chu Muqing’s talk about developing a fashion business was just casual play. She hadn’t expected him to be so serious. Every department was well-organized, on par with any established brand. Motivated by this, Su Wanqing devoted herself even more to her work.
After submitting her draft, Su Wanqing checked the time. There were still ten minutes left before the end of the workday. Bored, she pulled out her phone to watch some short, mindless videos—sometimes they even sparked design inspiration.
Suddenly, a call popped up on the screen. It was Fang Shucui. Su Wanqing frowned, wondering what family drama had unfolded now, and answered the call.
“Was this your idea?” Fang Shucui’s sharp voice pierced through the phone. “You made him go abroad! You separated a mother from her son! You’re truly vicious!”
Abroad? It seemed Su Ningxuan had chosen further studies instead of taking a job.
“That’s right. It was me. So what?” Su Wanqing replied lazily. “If you have a problem, call the police.”
Without waiting for Fang Shucui’s reply, she hung up.
She had finally had a good day—no way was she going to let someone ruin it so easily.
Just as she put her phone away, it was time to clock out. Su Wanqing grabbed her bag and headed downstairs. Since her commute was on Chu Muqing’s route, Xu Chengke usually came to pick her up.
She spotted the familiar car parked outside the company. Like always, she pulled the door open—only to find the inside completely empty.
Su Wanqing settled into the seat as the car pulled smoothly away, the scenery outside the window retreating rapidly in the direction of home.
After holding back for a while, she finally realized that Xu Chengke clearly had no intention of picking up Chu Muqing. He was treating himself purely as a driver—sending her straight home.
“Assistant Xu, President Chu today…” she began hesitantly.
“Oh, the boss? She went abroad,” Xu Chengke replied casually.
“Abroad?”
“Yeah, she has some business overseas. Madam, you don’t need to worry. She’ll be back in three days.”
“I wasn’t worried,” Su Wanqing muttered to herself. Why would she be?
Yet, for some inexplicable reason, the moment she heard about Chu Muqing’s departure, a faint wave of disappointment rose within her.
Then she reasoned with herself: after all, their marriage was only nominal. Privately, they weren’t even friends.
Why should Chu Muqing have to inform her about anything?
Su Wanqing remained silent the entire way home.
She didn’t even bother to politely bid Xu Chengke goodbye. She tossed her bag onto the sofa, slumped down heavily, and felt a pang of sadness.
She had thought that at the very least, she and Chu Muqing were friends.
Feeling low, Su Wanqing didn’t have the energy to cook. After selecting a takeout order, she lay back on the sofa, lazily flipping through her tablet, browsing some meaningless movies.
Halfway through the film, the doorbell rang. She groped for her phone to check it, then got up to retrieve the delivery.
It was her usual favorite—cheese pizza.
When she opened the box, the golden, freshly baked pizza was divided neatly into six slices, the rich aroma of cheese wafting up—but she had no appetite at all.
After sitting there feeling dejected for half an hour, she forced herself to eat three slices. Somehow, her mood lifted slightly. She packed up the empty boxes, turned off the tablet, and went straight to bed.
Despite feeling upset before sleeping, surprisingly, it didn’t affect her rest much.
Su Wanqing slept soundly until she naturally woke up. Stretching lazily, she groped for her phone.
A string of unread WeChat messages floated on the screen.
Rubbing her eyes, she saw they were from Su Ningxuan. She tapped to open them.
[Sis, my study abroad plans are finalized. I’ll be leaving next month.]
[I heard from Assistant Xu that you’re off today. I’d like to treat you to a meal.]
Recently, Chu Muqing’s newly launched service brand, “Shuqing,” had taken shape.
Su Wanqing had been busy for more than half a month and had almost forgotten about Su Ningxuan.
Her half-brother wasn’t bad after all.
Thinking that they hadn’t seen each other in a while—and she had some questions about universities anyway—Su Wanqing replied:
[Sure.]
Just as she was about to search for a nearby restaurant, Su Ningxuan directly sent her a location.
[Yi He, booth 302.]
The name sounded familiar.
Su Wanqing shook off her drowsiness and remembered—Chu Muqing had mentioned this restaurant before.
For some reason, Chu Muqing came to her mind again.
Thinking that Chu Muqing was still abroad, Su Wanqing felt a tiny surge of irritation.
She moved lazily, washing up, changing clothes, and doing her makeup.
By the time she was done, the timing was just right. For convenience, she called a ride.
When she arrived at Yi He on time, she entered the lobby where a waiter immediately approached her, speaking the standard greeting:
“Hello, do you have a reservation?”
“302,” Su Wanqing replied.
The waiter smiled and motioned for her to follow. Su Wanqing obediently trailed behind. When they reached the third floor, she noticed Cheng Zhuo standing in the corridor, chatting with a guest.
Neither Chu Muqing nor Lu Qinghe were around.
Originally, Su Wanqing had no intention of greeting him—but Cheng Zhuo spotted her first.
He immediately abandoned his conversation with the guest and ran over to say hello.
“Hey, what are you doing here?”
“I’m meeting my brother,” Su Wanqing answered.
“Oh, I didn’t know you were coming. I’ll tell the manager to serve you some of our signature dishes later,” Cheng Zhuo said with a bright smile. “Sister Qing isn’t here right now, but if you need anything, just call me.”
Because of his loyalty to Lu Qinghe—or more accurately, to Chu Muqing—Cheng Zhuo treated them both with unwavering devotion.
His fondness for Chu Muqing extended naturally to Su Wanqing, and he treated her kindly as well.
Su Wanqing simply nodded.
“You don’t look too happy,” Cheng Zhuo remarked, sensitive as always to emotional shifts—especially among Omegas, since he had spent so much time taking care of Lu Qinghe.
“Is it because Sister Qing isn’t around?”
Su Wanqing was about to say that it wasn’t because of that, but Cheng Zhuo didn’t give her a chance to respond.
“Don’t miss her too much,” he said. “She’ll be back very soon.”
“What?” Su Wanqing asked, startled.
“She didn’t tell you?” Cheng Zhuo glanced down at his watch. “Her flight lands at four this afternoon.”
“No, she didn’t mention it,” Su Wanqing replied distractedly.
“Maybe she wanted to surprise you,” Cheng Zhuo said with a laugh.
“Mhm,” Su Wanqing answered. “If we finish early, I’ll go to the airport and surprise her instead.”
Raising her hand, Su Wanqing pointed ahead. “I’d better get going. My brother’s probably getting impatient.”
Standing by the private room door was Su Ningxuan.
Su Wanqing waved toward him.
“Alright then,” Cheng Zhuo said quickly. “Enjoy your meal!”
