After the Scumbag Alpha Heard her Inner Thoughts (GL) - Chapter 36
Over the past few days, Su Wanqing briefly summarized everything that had happened and sent it to Chu Muqing. The two of them then exchanged a few more casual messages.
When the food delivery arrived, Su Wanqing put away her phone and got up to retrieve it.
Placing the food on the table, Su Wanqing knocked on the bathroom door and said through it, “Ji Yu, don’t take so long. You can shower properly when we get back to Beicheng. Come out and eat something first. After we eat, we’ll head back.”
The warm water had washed away all the fatigue from Ji Yu’s body. After getting enough sleep, she now felt re-energized. She responded, “Coming.”
Ji Yu came out wrapped in a bathrobe. Her clothes were still in the bedroom, and just as she was about to dash over, Su Wanqing stopped her. “There’s a new set of clothes over there.”
Ji Yu glanced over and noticed a shopping bag. When she saw the logo printed on it, her eyes widened. “You really went all out.”
While unwrapping the food bags, Su Wanqing replied, “Hurry up. Once we finish eating, we’re heading back. There’s still a pile of work waiting at the company.”
Ji Yu grabbed the bag and returned to the bathroom. She quickly got dressed and used a towel to rub her hair again. Since it was summer and the weather was hot, her hair was already half dry. She quickly combed through it while looking in the mirror.
She then jogged over to sit across from Su Wanqing. “I’m starving.”
“Dig in,” Su Wanqing said.
There were two bowls of porridge, two boiled eggs, two scallion pancakes, and several small plates of pickled vegetables.
“Let’s eat something light first. We’ll have something better once we get back to Beicheng,” Su Wanqing said, handing her a pair of chopsticks.
“I’m not picky,” Ji Yu said, taking the chopsticks and starting to eat. “I’m used to rough meals.”
“Are you a Beta?” Su Wanqing asked. She realized she had never brought this up before. After all the tension and adrenaline from the past few days, she hadn’t detected any trace of Ji Yu’s pheromones.
The only explanation was that Ji Yu was indeed a Beta.
“Yeah,” Ji Yu replied. “My family thought I was useless because I was a Beta, so they left me back in my hometown to fend for myself. It’s actually not far from here.”
She had made a few friends around here, including both Alphas and Omegas. When she was eleven, she met Qiao Shiyi and followed her back to Beicheng. After graduating, Ji Yu had rushed to find a job because she wanted to earn money to help the Qiao family.
Before this business trip, she had checked the location and found out that this factory was near her childhood home. Before coming, she had also contacted an Alpha she used to know.
“What time are we leaving?” Ji Yu asked.
“Right after we finish eating,” Su Wanqing said. Staying here any longer wouldn’t accomplish anything; she wanted to get back as soon as possible.
“Can we wait a little bit?”
“Why?” Su Wanqing asked.
“The Alpha wants to see me. She’s probably worried something happened to me. I already told her on WeChat that I’m fine, but she insisted on seeing me in person.”
Su Wanqing thought it wasn’t a big deal and agreed, “Sure.”
But then she felt something was a little off. Could it be that this Alpha likes Ji Yu? Su Wanqing’s eyes lit up at the thought. However, looking at Ji Yu, she didn’t seem to have considered that possibility. Su Wanqing didn’t want to point it out directly and instead asked, “Can I come with you?”
“Y-yeah, sure,” Ji Yu said.
After agreeing on a time with the Alpha, Ji Yu got up to pack her things. Her old clothes were no longer wearable, so she simply threw them away. There wasn’t much left to bring.
Once they finished, the two of them drove to the meeting spot.
Yucheng’s summer scenery was quite beautiful, especially in the countryside. Far from the city, the sky was a clear, transparent blue—just like the summer skies in a Makoto Shinkai film.
There was a small river here, gently flowing by. A narrow stone bridge crossed over it, its weathered stone pillars crumbling with age.
At the end of the bridge stood the Alpha. Ji Yu grabbed Su Wanqing’s hand and led her over, waving enthusiastically as she walked. “Hi, Meng Yu!”
When they reached her, Ji Yu made the introductions. “Mengmeng, this is my boss, Su Wanqing.
Qing-jie, this is my friend, Meng Yu.”
Su Wanqing gave Meng Yu a once-over. She was dressed in a long grey shirt with only half the buttons done up, revealing a white tank top underneath, paired with black shorts and sneakers.
The outfit was a strange mix of matching and mismatching elements, but somehow it worked—partly because Meng Yu’s whole vibe was cool and nonchalant.
Her features leaned towards the sharp and handsome side.
“Hello,” Meng Yu greeted them, her voice low and slightly hoarse—not exactly pleasant, but memorable.
“Hello. I heard from Ji Yu that you helped her a lot. If you ever have time to visit Beicheng, you’re very welcome to drop by,” Su Wanqing said warmly.
“No need to be so polite.”
There was a faint scent of Alpha pheromones around Meng Yu—reminiscent of strong rum, intense but not overwhelming.
Sensing the Omega pheromones from Su Wanqing, Meng Yu’s own scent remained non-threatening.
“Miss Meng, you two can chat. I’ll wait by the car,” Su Wanqing said.
Initially, she had been worried that an Alpha might be coveting her subordinate. Now that she had seen the situation for herself, she felt it wouldn’t be appropriate to stick around any longer.
Su Wanqing turned and walked back towards the car, leaning against the door. The vehicle was a customized Cullinan that Xu Chengke had bought her before he left.
She pulled out her phone and sent a message to Chu Muqing. There was no reply yet—likely because of the time difference—but Su Wanqing wasn’t anxious. Instead, she enjoyed the fresh air carried by the gentle summer breeze.
Ji Yu said, “See? I’m perfectly fine. You’re making a big deal out of nothing.”
Meng Yu shot her a glance, resting her hand on the stone bridge as she looked down at the slowly flowing river, where tiny fish darted between the ripples.
“How was I supposed to know you were telling the truth? When you were little, you used to hide it even when you got hurt,” Meng Yu said.
“I just didn’t want to trouble you guys back then. But now, I have my boss and you. What would I need to hide?” Ji Yu replied.
Meng Yu let out a low “Mm.”
“I heard you’re planning to move to Beicheng. Are you sure about it? When are you going?” Ji Yu asked.
“Not sure yet,” Meng Yu replied. “Probably by the end of the year, if nothing unexpected happens.”
“Oh,” Ji Yu said. “When you get there, remember to text me. Jojo and I will come find you.”
“Got it.”
Ji Yu glanced at her watch, then looked toward the car. “It’s getting late. I should head back now.”
Meng Yu grunted an acknowledgment. “Go on.”
Ji Yu bounced happily back to the car, not noticing Meng Yu’s eyes quietly following her departing figure. “Boss, we can go now!”
Su Wanqing tossed her the keys. “You drive. I’ll take a nap.”
After lying down for so long, Ji Yu was more than happy to move around a bit. She caught the keys and climbed into the driver’s seat.
Ji Yu’s driving was steady but not fast. At first, Su Wanqing remained awake, but soon she leaned back in the passenger seat and fell asleep.
Two hours later, Su Wanqing woke up when they reached a service station along the highway. She said she wanted to get a bottle of water and stretch her legs.
The service station was bustling, filled with travelers taking breaks, tourists, and vendors selling goods.
Glancing at the souvenir stalls around them, Su Wanqing asked, “Ji Yu, do you want to buy some local specialties?”
“No need. The stuff here isn’t authentic at all,” Ji Yu said. Having lived nearby before, she knew these stalls mostly scammed outsiders—everything was overpriced and not genuine.
Su Wanqing didn’t particularly like those things either. The two of them found a window seat, sipping water and scrolling on their phones.
It was then that a call came through from Chu Muqing.
Now that Ji Yu knew about their relationship, Su Wanqing didn’t bother hiding anything. She answered the call right away.
“Heading back already?” Chu Muqing asked.
“Mm,” Su Wanqing responded. “Still about an hour left.”
Holding her phone, Chu Muqing hesitated, clearly worried. “Be careful.”
“I will,” Su Wanqing said softly.
They only exchanged a few words before Chu Muqing hung up.
Ji Yu clicked her tongue, watching the whole scene unfold with a face full of mock disdain at the thick atmosphere of love that no one could ignore.
“You two back together or something?” Ji Yu teased.
“Not yet,” Su Wanqing replied.
“Not yet and already acting like this?” Ji Yu scoffed. “You’re bound to get snatched up by her sooner or later.”
Su Wanqing didn’t argue. Technically, Chu Muqing hadn’t confessed yet. Right now, they were more than friends but not quite lovers.
Originally, they had been strangers forced into a family-arranged marriage, tied together without choice. They had never really experienced the sweetness of dating properly before. Now, it felt like they were making up for that lost time.
This subtle, tender stage—hovering between friendship and romance—was the most beautiful part of a relationship, and Su Wanqing wasn’t in a hurry to define it.
There were countless ways to confess. She didn’t mind being the one to take the initiative eventually, but… she really wanted to see how Chu Muqing would do it first.
Lately, Chu Muqing had gotten rid of many of her bad habits too—likely thanks to Xu Chengke’s coaching. If it had been left to Chu Muqing herself, who knew how long it would’ve taken.
They got back on the road. By two o’clock in the afternoon, they arrived in Beicheng.
Su Wanqing didn’t return to the company but went straight to the police station.
There, the police explained the situation to her.
The factory supervisor had been instructed by Sun Xiaoxiao to stir up trouble—purely out of spite, wanting to damage Su Wanqing’s reputation.
Just like what had happened with Lanqing’s S.G brand.
As for the financial compensation, it would be gradually transferred to Su Wanqing’s account, but if she wanted to pursue Sun Xiaoxiao’s responsibility further, she would have to handle it herself.
Sun Xiaoxiao had gone through intermediaries to arrange everything, and there wasn’t direct evidence linking her to the act.
However, the police discreetly hinted that Sun Xiaoxiao had previous ties to the Chu family patriarch.
Knowing the truth was enough for Su Wanqing.
She would deal with Sun Xiaoxiao herself.
Leaving the police station, Ji Yu finally exploded, “I can’t believe it was really her! She’s so vicious. If I had known earlier, I wouldn’t have let her go last time!”
“Things like this are inevitable,” Su Wanqing said calmly.
She thought to herself: since she was running a fashion brand, competition—whether fair or dirty—was something she had to face head-on.
But this time, she wouldn’t let Sun Xiaoxiao off so easily.
“I’m heading back to Lanqing to sign a contract,” Su Wanqing said. “Are you going home, or somewhere else?”
“I’ll go home and get some rest. Tomorrow, I’m meeting Jojo.”
Regardless of the reasons, Jo Shiyi had endorsed their brand and gained even more popularity because of it.
Now that this issue had arisen, it was important for Ji Yu to explain things clearly so it wouldn’t impact Jo Shiyi’s career in the entertainment industry.
“Alright,” Su Wanqing agreed.
After parting ways with Ji Yu, Su Wanqing returned to Lanqing.
The team had already drafted the contract. Seeing the contact information sent over by Cheng Zhuo, Su Wanqing immediately made a call.
On the other end, a soft-spoken girl answered, saying she happened to be downstairs at a café and could come up to sign the documents right away.
Everything went so smoothly, and the person even waited for her specifically.
Su Wanqing understood what was going on, but she didn’t make a fuss about it. She simply carried the contract downstairs.
After wrapping up that matter, Su Wanqing took two days off to rest at home.
For some reason, she felt especially exhausted.
After sleeping for an entire day and night, she woke up only to find that the symptoms hadn’t improved. She was still feeling dizzy and burning up.
Standing in the living room, she reached for the thermometer, intending to check if she had a fever—but then she froze.
Something’s wrong.
Could it be… that her heat cycle had started?
Su Wanqing hurriedly grabbed her smart bracelet and strapped it on.
The pheromone concentration reading instantly maxed out, flashing a red exclamation mark and beeping frantically.
She fumbled around under the first aid kit, found a suppressant, bit open the packaging with her teeth, and carefully injected it into her arm.
Lately, she had been so busy with work, plus a business trip to the U.S., that she had completely forgotten she was an Omega.
Her heat cycle schedule had long since slipped her mind.
The suppressant began to take effect slowly.
Su Wanqing leaned against the living room sofa, resting her hand against her forehead, closing her eyes to recuperate.
Just then, the video doorbell chimed persistently.
Groaning, Su Wanqing forced herself up.
Seeing Lu Qinghe outside, she hurriedly opened the door and let her in.
“You’re here?!” Su Wanqing said, slightly anxious. “You’re pregnant—it’s not convenient for you to be running around. If you needed anything, I should’ve gone to you! How could Cheng Zhuo even allow you to come out?”
“I was just passing by,” Lu Qinghe replied simply.
Then her expression grew serious. “Susu, there’s a bit of trouble. Gu Heng contacted me. He said that if I don’t cooperate with him, he’ll drag the Lu family down with him.”
“Even though the Lu family isn’t really afraid of him anymore, things have only just stabilized.”
Su Wanqing stayed silent for a moment. “…”
