After the Scumbag Alpha Heard her Inner Thoughts (GL) - Chapter 8
“Do I look mentally unstable to you?” Chu Muqing’s eyes glinted coldly, the pressure of an Alpha’s presence radiating from her.
Cheng Zhuo, only an A-class Alpha, could barely handle it.
He silently thought: If I dare say yes, she could probably kill me with just that look.
“N-no, of course not,” he quickly backpedaled. “Maybe you’re just under too much stress.”
Just then, Xu Chengke came down the stairs. “Boss, Madam said she’s okay with it.”
“Mm.”
Cheng Zhuo glanced up toward the second floor, then leaned in slightly toward Chu Muqing. “You and her… is it real? Or just for show?”
As someone who dealt with glands and pheromones all day, he had clearly detected the remnants of a mark on Su Wanqing—along with her bold and unruly wild-rose scent.
“The old man arranged the marriage,” Chu Muqing said casually. “What’s there to fake?”
After a moment’s thought, Cheng Zhuo said, “Actually, having an Omega around might be good for you right now.”
“Good?” Chu Muqing thought to herself—how is this good? I’m practically losing my mind.
Since the temporary mark, not only had she been inexplicably hearing Su Wanqing’s thoughts, she’d also started thinking about her more often.
Her slim waist. The soft, involuntary sounds she made during the marking. That faint, sweet yet unfamiliar scent in her pheromones.
Chu Muqing forced herself to stop. She chalked it up to pheromone interference.
“My glands are damaged—can the compatibility readings still be trusted?”
“They only affect your body physically,” Cheng Zhuo said, leaning closer. “The other functions work just fine.”
Then, seeing Chu Muqing’s expression darken like a storm, he quickly backed up two steps and continued: “In terms of differentiation, you’re no different from a typical Alpha. That means level, scent, compatibility—everything works as normal.”
“Got it.”
So the compatibility score wasn’t wrong. She and Su Wanqing were indeed highly compatible. Based on the temporary mark, the response had only benefited her body.
Maybe… it’s worth keeping her around a little longer.
Cheng Zhuo still wanted to go upstairs to check on Lu Qinghe, but knowing Su Wanqing was there made it awkward.
With Alpha possessiveness in play, who knew what Chu Muqing might do?
“I’ve got work tomorrow, I’ll head out,” he said, then added, “You left the hospital too quickly last time. Come back for a follow-up when you can.”
“You nag.”
Chu Muqing walked him to the door. Just before stepping out, Cheng Zhuo looked back. “Qing-jie, help me take care of Qinghe.”
“Gross.” Chu Muqing shot him a look of disdain and closed the door.
Xu Chengke stood to the side. “Boss, heading home?”
“I’m going upstairs to check on them.”
“They’re in the first room on the left.”
“Ask Aunt Chen tomorrow what kind of supplements are good for Omegas during heat.”
“Yes, Boss.”
“Prepare two sets.”
“Understood, Boss.”
Xu Chengke didn’t dare gossip, especially not with Chu Muqing nearby. He replied like a well-programmed assistant—one instruction, one confirmation.
Chu Muqing went upstairs.
Inside the room, the two women had just finished showering. Lu Qinghe was drying her hair, and Su Wanqing was sprawled on the bed, scrolling on her phone. Two of the resumes she had sent out earlier had received interview responses.
She picked one and confirmed the interview time. Just as she finished replying, the doorbell rang.
The hairdryer hummed loudly, and Lu Qinghe couldn’t get up. Su Wanqing rolled off the bed to answer. “Maybe Assistant Xu forgot something?”
She opened the door and froze for a second.
“You haven’t left yet?”
Chu Muqing looked her over.
She was wearing a soft cream-colored pajama set, freshly showered, a gentle bellflower scent from her body wash clinging to her skin. Her complexion was flushed and dewy, and her hair had just been blow-dried into a fluffy halo.
Chu Muqing raised an eyebrow. “My wife is here—why wouldn’t I stay?”
The moment those words left Chu Muqing’s mouth, alarms blared in Su Wanqing’s mind.
What does she mean by that?
Did she suddenly remember her existence after everything else was handled… and now she wanted to let loose?
Scenes from the original plot rushed into her mind—Chu Muqing’s forceful marking, her eventual disgust at the scent she’d left behind on Su Wanqing, and how she later ordered it to be scrubbed off with pheromone cleansers.
She couldn’t afford to provoke her now.
“Yes, yes, of course,” Su Wanqing licked her lips nervously, lowering her head and stepping to the side to make room.
Chu Muqing stood at the doorway, not actually entering the room. As she glanced down, she happened to catch the slight trembling of Su Wanqing’s eyelashes.
Was she really that terrifying?
She’d only said something vague about staying—and it scared her like this?
She hadn’t looked so timid that night.
“How’s Lu Qinghe?”
“Much better.”
“You two will stay here for the next few days. Once she’s fully recovered, then you can go.”
Having anyone else come would be inconvenient. Xu Chengke was a Beta—there were limits to what he could handle.
“Alright.”
There was nothing else. Chu Muqing gave Su Wanqing a final glance and was just about to leave, when—
That voice rang out again.
[So she’s not staying? Yes!!]
[Now I can spend time with the pretty goddess again! She looks even better after her shower—no more ugly makeup, and she smells so soft and sweet!]
[Rubbing hands with glee~]
Su Wanqing stood there, head down, eyes glued to the floor, nervously wringing the edge of her pajama shirt.
Chu Muqing raised an eyebrow. Pretty goddess?
So the Su family’s pampered young lady, who everyone assumed was scheming for power, wasn’t after status or control—she just had a brain full of pretty girls?
Chu Muqing tried to ignore the thoughts—pretend she hadn’t heard anything. But a darker curiosity crept in.
If Su Wanqing could call Lu Qinghe “pretty goddess” so freely, why did she act so distant around her? Like she was something to avoid?
Was she that unattractive?
The reason she’d come had already slipped her mind.
Chu Muqing took a step forward, reached out, and wrapped her arm around Su Wanqing’s waist.
Su Wanqing had just been happily imagining clinging to her pretty goddess when she suddenly felt a hand at her waist. She looked up, completely baffled, into Chu Muqing’s face.
Chu Muqing leaned in—close enough for their bodies to almost touch. At this distance, she could smell the faint floral pheromones beneath the bellflower-scented body wash.
“You… What are you doing?” Su Wanqing didn’t dare move.
Chu Muqing’s gaze swept from her face to the exposed gland at the back of her neck. Amid her fair skin, it was the only spot tinged red.
She inched closer—her lips stopping just beside Su Wanqing’s ear.
“Do you think I’m pretty?”
The gland, once marked by Chu Muqing, seemed to remember her. As she leaned in, it began to burn, and Su Wanqing’s pheromones stirred uncontrollably.
“You’re… pretty.”
Only an idiot would say she wasn’t.
“Am I prettier,” Chu Muqing whispered, “or is Lu Qinghe prettier?”
“You’re prettier,” Su Wanqing blurted.
Su Wanqing’s voice was soft and sweet, with the slightest tremble in it. Whether she meant it or not, Chu Muqing clearly enjoyed the answer.
“Miss Su, what are you doing?” Lu Qinghe called out from the bedroom after finishing drying her hair and realizing Su Wanqing hadn’t returned yet.
Frozen at the sound of her voice, Su Wanqing didn’t dare respond. She was terrified Lu Qinghe would walk out and witness this scene.
“Miss Su?” Lu Qinghe called again, louder this time.
Chu Muqing finally let go of her. If she had waited any longer, Su Wanqing might’ve burst into tears.
“Rest well,” Chu Muqing said calmly before turning and heading downstairs.
Su Wanqing watched her go, only then letting out a breath. She turned back toward the bedroom and quickly called out, “Lu-jie, I’m here!”
Back inside the room, her heartbeat finally began to settle.
“Lu-jie, what is it?”
“Nothing. I just finished drying my hair and was wondering if you were going to sleep.”
“Sleep. Yes, sleep.”
Su Wanqing’s brain still hadn’t quite caught up.
Lu Qinghe looked at her with curiosity. “What’s with you? You look totally out of it. Who did you just see?”
“No one,” Su Wanqing said quickly.
“You expect me to believe that with all that Alpha pheromone clinging to you, and say you didn’t see President Chu?”
“…”
“She was just worried and came by to check on you,” Lu Qinghe said flatly.
Su Wanqing quickly grabbed a bottle of pheromone blocker and sprayed herself generously, masking the lingering rose scent.
The two of them got into bed. Lying on her side, Su Wanqing curled toward Lu Qinghe. She rested her head on her arm and asked, “Lu-jie, how could you tell it was her pheromone?”
Chu Muqing usually had excellent control over her scent. Even Su Wanqing hadn’t noticed much of it earlier.
“You know the Lu family, right?”
“Mm, I do.”
She remembered plenty from the original storyline.
“The Lu family is heavily biased toward Alphas. Unlike the Chu family, which favors Alphas too, but at least gives Omegas some opportunities—the Lu family doesn’t.”
Originally, the Lu family’s heir was supposed to be Lu Qinghe’s older brother, Lu Huaiyuan. But after an accident, she had no choice but to compete for the position herself.
To do so, she disguised herself as a Beta and fought for the successor’s seat among the Alphas.
Her gender was her biggest vulnerability.
She had studied abroad for a year, during which she didn’t just focus on business or leadership—she trained herself to sense others’ pheromones more acutely, all so she could better conceal her own.
So even though Su Wanqing only carried a faint trace of Alpha pheromone earlier, Lu Qinghe still picked up on it.
What surprised her most was that Chu Muqing had apparently… actually developed feelings?
“Lu-jie, you can’t go back tomorrow, right?”
“Right. But the day after, I have to. If I don’t, something will go wrong.”
The Lu family’s business empire wasn’t like others. There were already many eyes on her position. Two days away might already be too long—who knew what changes might occur in that time?
“But your gender is always going to be a risk,” Su Wanqing said seriously. “You need a plan for when that day comes.”
n the original plot, it was written that once Lu Qinghe went into heat and was seen by others, she lost control over the Lu family. Later, she was framed and forcibly marked by an Alpha—completely losing her eligibility in the succession race.
“I know,” Lu Qinghe said calmly. She was fully aware of what was at stake.
During this banquet, she had already secured two partnerships—not even counting the one with the Chu family.
With three deals moving forward, the boardroom fossils in the company would have to think twice before trying to kick her out.
When the time was right, she’d reveal her gender on her own terms. Whether to come clean directly or claim she had differentiated from a Beta into an Omega—she’d decide that later.
The two chatted quietly, and before they knew it, both had fallen asleep.
Two Omegas lying together, with gentle, non-aggressive pheromones—it made for a peaceful sleep. Su Wanqing woke before Lu Qinghe. After washing up, she got ready for a job interview.
There was a knock at the door.
This time, Su Wanqing asked cautiously, “Who is it?”
“Madam, it’s me.”
She tidied her clothes and opened the door. “Assistant Xu? What brings you here so early?”
“I brought breakfast. A specially prepared, nutritious meal for you two.”
The scent alone was mouthwatering.
“Thank you, Assistant Xu. It’s really thoughtful of you to come all this way so early. If you’re busy, we can always buy our own breakfast.”
Considering that Di Jing Mansion wasn’t close by, and he still had to take Chu Muqing to work, the round trip would take at least two hours.
“It’s no trouble at all. This is part of my job.”
He glanced at her outfit and, out of curiosity, asked, “Madam, are you heading out?”
“To a job interview,” she replied.
“If you’re looking to work, you’re always welcome to join our company,” Xu Chengke offered.
Su Wanqing refused without hesitation. The whole point of job hunting was to put distance between her and Chu Muqing. If she ended up getting kicked out one day, she’d at least have a job to fall back on.
“No thanks. There’s no suitable position for me at the Chu Group. I’ll manage on my own.”
“Alright.”
After breakfast, Lu Qinghe stayed home working on her laptop while Su Wanqing took the subway to her interview.
She had already done a background check on the company—it had no ties to the Gu, Lu, or Chu families.
The downside was that it wasn’t very big, and the pay wasn’t great. But among less-than-ideal options, it was still the best one available.
The interview went smoothly, and Su Wanqing felt confident about getting the position.
Standing outside the subway station afterward, she was checking her phone when a call popped up on the screen.
Seeing the caller ID gave her an immediate headache.
“Aunt Fang.”
“Qingqing, sweetheart! What are you doing? Have you eaten yet?”
“Aunt Fang, if you’ve got something to say, just get to the point.”
“Well, you and Chu Muqing have been married for a while now, but she still hasn’t come to visit the house. Your father and I were thinking of inviting her over for dinner this weekend.”
Su Wanqing had known her intentions weren’t pure. No matter how it was phrased, it all boiled down to getting something for her own freshly graduated son.
“Aunt Fang, President Chu is very busy. She doesn’t have time for dinner.”
“Everyone has time for a quick meal, no matter how busy they are.”
“Aunt Fang—”
Su Wanqing was just about to refuse again when Fang Shucui dropped her trump card.
“There’s a box under your bed, in your room.”
“…”
That box contained the last things her mother had left behind.
